Is it possible to remove any of the default icons from the status bar? I have so many up there that I barely have any room for notifications. The location icon is pointless. It's there whether you have location turned on or off. I realize this may require rooting, but is it possible?
It will be possible at some point Im sure. Developers were just starting to get rid of them on the Hero (2.1 Android) before I upgraded to the Evo. I was happy to finally get rid of the battery icon since I use a percentage widget in the notification bar anyway. Many were also getting rid of the clock if they had one on their homepage.
Agreed. I have the clock removed on my moment, thanks to the devs at sdx im sure someone will do the same over here as well.
Seriously the Target icon is annoying! And I thought I was a waste of space.

I hate having the GPS and BT icons show up, I already know gps is always on and the blue light tells me if BT is on.
Will it require loading a custom rom that already has these icons removed or will there be a way to manually remove them from any custom rom after it has been loaded onto the phone?
also interested in this, that location icon/cross hair/reticule is insufferable

What blue light????
Also interested in this. Don't need location, vibrate/silent, or clock.
in for this too, preferrably an app in the market
any custom roms provide this?

I'd like to prevent my notifications and program "badges" (can't think of the proper word!) From stacking up in my notification bar at the top of the screen.
It happens when i have a lot of icons there already, ie wifi, alarm etc. Despite there being plenty of room in the middle of the bar, my notifications all stack into one icon on the extreme left hand side with the number of different programs/notifications shown as a number.
Is there a way to prevent this behaviour and force android to use all the available space on the notification bar?
I'm running Ion r2 on my Dream, although my phone has always done this, with the stock rom and JF 1.5 as well.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer!
Sure, keep the number of notifications low and they won't stack. They stack when you run out of space on the bar. I know you think that there's lots of space, but if you unstack them, rest assured that there are definitely too many to fit in the space available.

Unfortunatly there is no forseen solution to this problem. I experience it as well. I think the best we can hope for are new phones with higher resolutions.

This isn't right. There is definitely space for 4 more icons, yet it stacks with just 2.

I'm on Ionr2 and I have 4 icons (email, Toggle Settings, Twidroid, USB) on the left side before the stacking starts. I'm not sure if it's gone up to 5 or not.

When the phone is in portrait mode it stacks when there are more than 2 items on the left hand side - even though there is space for more items. When in landscape, it shows all the notifications/app icons individually.
Very annoying, since the home screen will only display in portrait mode and wont auto rotate when the phone is turned.
Im convinced there must be something i can do to fix this issue!

I was talking about portrait mode. I'm pretty sure there's a fix since I do not have this problem. However, my home screen does rotate though, since I have dxTop.
Do you happen to have Quick Calendar installed? Even though Quick Calendar did not display a little icon on the top for each item in the list and only say in my "ongoing" area on the bar, when I removed it the stacking you talk about went away! It was driving me crazy too, but it seems like either Quick Calendar or the OS sees each entry, even though it doesn't have an icon and counts them.
Not sure if it will help you, but my phone has been working properly after I disabled Quick Calendar. It's a shame, I like the app. :-/

Genius! Removing Quick Calendar solved the problem - thanks!
I've put a link to this thread at the devs website - perhaps when he has solved the issue he could let us know, so we can go back to using his otherwise useful app.
Never had this type of problem, only thing is that my colors blend together because of the custom theme I am using >.<
Ok, I confirmed with the developer this morning, it is QuickCal, though I guess any other app that hides icons would also have this problem as it is a restriction in the os. Jim (the developer) works for google and plans to petition his employer to make some changes to the way the notify bar works. The os allows the developer to 'hide' notification icons, but they still take up an invisible space.
We should see an update in the next couple of days to make a nicer widget with more info and smaller font size, so this may satisfy me if the widget is decent.

Awesome - I already miss QuickCal and I only uninstalled it yesterday!
Coming from my Cyanogen Nexus One, im starting to miss things. The most missed thing is the quick toggle of Bluetooth, Wifi, Mute, and Airplane mode that were in CM 6.1.1 under the Notification Tray.
Anyone know what that program was called? Of course it is possible that it wont even work on the Atrix.

Its part of the rom, and not a seperate app. Of course, you could dig through the CM sources and see what that is, and then see if you could port it.
Get beautiful widgets, they have an entire set of toggle widgets that allows you to do this quickly.
They also have an excellent clock/weather homescreen widget.

you don't even need that, there is a stock android power control widget. the point is, in cyanogenMod, you could pull down the status bar and toggle those from any app. so you could turn on GPS without leaving maps, or unlock screen rotation without leaving the web browser. It was really handy.

Come on guys... You got the phone 3 minutes ago.. Please don't start this. Give it some damn time. I'm pretty sure Cyanogenmod will be up in a few weeks. It's not like the Nexus One got Cyanogenmod in day -1. Seen as the phone is not suppose to be even out yet.

Are we really all having this conversation again? The bootloader is signed...nobody's going to be designing custom kernels anytime soon. Once the key is found or another exploit is found...sure. Until then? no dice.

Wasn't trying to talk down the Atrix, just fully explain the feature from CM.
I'll be happy when AT&T flips my data service back on again so i can actually set up the phone and use it. Kinda dead in the water right now.

Yeah, I was just trying to cheer you guys up. We'll have some custom roms up and running soon.
Get switchPro Widget. that way you can make 7 shortcuts on your homescreen to enable/disable GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, Mobile Data, Sync, Silent/Vibrator and airplane mode just to mention a few.
Guys, the idea is to have it in the Notification Tray, not on my homescreen.
Also, im not asking for a custom Cyanogen Rom. Just because there are people on here that complain every 5 minutes, dont get an attitude with everyone. It was a general question about if it is a program. It is not. End of story.

The Samsung Galaxy S phones have it and it is a great feature. The idea of widgets or the power control widget is not the same as it takes up space on the screen - having a list of shortcuts at the top of the notification area is simple and elegant.
My solution is to use quick settings (app store) it has a notification tray icon (you can hide it unless you pull down the tray) that lets me get to a set of toggles.
BarControl will let you put any app in the bar.. I use it with ToggleWifi and Bluetooth mode for notification bar toggles on a stock N1

Monkey see, monkey do.
widgetsoid is another option also.
I have been trying to remove this battery status indicator above the notification bar. I just flashed chromi-x and cannot figure out what I changed to make this bar appear (orange/red dashed bar in the attached image), I really don't like how it looks and would like it gone. Does anyone know what I did to make this show up?

Finally found it in the android tuner app. I honestly thought flashing cromi-x would have a greater impact on the tablet than it has, maybe it will take some time for me to discover its full potential.

It should have been in settings as well. In PAC-man its under Pacman->battery->battery bar. Idk about Cromi-x
I can't seem to find anything. Is there a mod out there that lets the GPS Icon show ONLY when the GPS is actively being used? I don't know if anyone is like me or not, but I like to leave GPS enabled for on demand usage, but I do NOT like having a all or nothing GPS icon. I like knowing when the GPS is active or not, but I don't want to stare at the bullseye icon 24/7.
Anyone know of such a mod? I was hoping it would be in G2 Xposed (I just tonight found that you can hide the 4G/3G notification when Wifi is active) but no such luck.
Mods, if this is the wrong section for this question, my apologies. I figured it was more of a Q&A item than a development item.

I fubar'd. I meant to take this down. I was confusing the E911 icon with the GPS Icon. I haven't seen an E911 Icon for two years now and it threw me.
Quick question:
I have the Sprint version. I've noticed a GPS icon that doesn't seem to go away from the status bar. I've searched around and found that all other published screenshots on forum/blogs etc (would be on the GSM version) do NOT have this icon. It will get crossed out if I turn off Location services, but will not go away.
Anyone have ideas for how to remove these? I'd prefer not to Root, but will if necessary. I know you can root-->xposed to modify these icons. Just trying to make sure I'm not missing a menu somewhere that lets us turn these off (BT, NFC, GPS icon)
Thanks in advance -

This must be your first Sprint HTC phone. That is called reticle icon for location. To remove it completely you need to install a custom ROM like Badboyz. It is removed by default.
It's been a while. I had the M7. I get a new phone about every 6mo. I'm mostly a Nexus fan, but when new good devices come along, I like using them for a while. That circle (along with the NFC and BT icons) are essentially worthless. Wish they'd enable the System UI tuner from Marshmallow and allow us to turn those icons off.
Not sure I want to root/ROM just yet. I'll probably wait a bit. Thanks for the reply.
