While I am new to the Nexus I have been a G1 user for a while.
I used Facebook on my G1 but I don't think it synced up Facebook Contacts and I have a question about that. I went through the settings area in where you set up Facebook syncing and saw where you can have it add Facebook Contacts or not. It seemed like a yes/no setting. Problem is that I have something like 500 friends in Facebook. Most of which I don't want to sync up contact info. I have seen that it is pulling in some people and adding their profile photo to the contact list. So far the ones that it has done this on are fine with one exception. One person has an incorrect photo as I have a contact for a person on the phone and a friend in Facebook that are completely different people. They just happen to have the same name so the phone assumed it was the same person and dropped the Facebook photo on this person.
Anyhow in Facebook I have people broken into groups. Friends and Family and others. While I would like to have the Friends and Family group synced with phone contacts I don't care about the other group. Is there a way to select what group is synced from Facebook? So far I haven't seen a way to set this but I might be missing it. While it seems to be doing this there are a few people from the "Other" Group that seemed to be synced up. I have now only had the Nexus for 24 hrs so it is new to me.
does anyone know of a widget or app that will allow me to view upcoming or all contact birthdays ?
thanks in advance
when you sync your phone with fb it'll sync the birthdays to your calendar as well so you'll able to see the birthdays of your fb contacts.

how exactly? i synced all my phone contacts to their respective fb account but their birthdays wont show in the calendar, i even tried syncing with outlook and back to the phone....
no can do...
On my G1 I used to use one called ebobirthday which was quite good. On the Desire, instead I have a slightly nicer solution - but only slightly nicer, because for some reason you can't seem to get at the synced FB dates
Sarch facebook apps for swissmenuo and add that app - it'll give you feerds for your FB events and contact birthdays. You can then add the ICS feed to your Google Calendar and use any of the calendar widgets to view just that calendar, or include it with your standard calendars . . . .

cant find it..
I'm using Google Calendar's function for birthday's...
(in Google Calendar) :
Settings|Calendars|Browse interesting calendars|More|Contacts' birthdays and events<--subscribe ^^
thanks guys,
unfortunately, i was hoping to steer clear of having data stored in the cloud. all of the birthdays are stored right there on the phone, all i want to do is have an app that displays upcoming birthdays in a widget.
used ebobirthday..works like a charm..it gets my fb friends birthday n integrated it into my HTC calendar...can even set alarm lol...

ebobirthday uses its own database to store birthdays doesn't it ? i was hoping to avoid this but it's looking like i'm going to have to cave in ...
after you set it to find all your contact birthday, there is an option to export the birthday into a csv file which i think u can save it and apply it to your google calendar or outlook or anything, i saved it but didnt try it, worried that it might mess up my calendar since i have ebobirthday on...hehe, you can try it and let us know the result
Facebook 2 Google
I used "birthday exporter" application on facebook, when you enter the application click "get your iCal file" then go to your google calendar and add the calendar (click on add, then "import calendar" and choose your downloaded iCal file) then sync from your phone to your google calendar.
Cheerz
thanks for the info, from the reviews, i see that some ppl says that it doesnt sync with android when there is no year added....
well i will stick with ebobirthday until everything is sorted out
I have a Facebook and a twitter account, among others, added in "my accounts" and Facebook is the default source for pictures (this works fine).
I have several friends who have Facebook and twitter accounts, some of whom were already in my phone. I know the easy way to deal with this is to link the contacts, but the problem I have is this: if I link a twitter contact and a Facebook contact, the entry in my contact list shows the twitter name instead of the Facebook and/or already listed in my contacts with their name, number, and e-mail.. This seems odd since most of the time people's real names are on Facebook, or at least much more so than twitter. Even more odd is that the picture associated with the contact is still the Facebook picture since I set Facebook as the picture source.
This does not occur with all of my contacts that I try to sync with Twitter either, it's only a select few.
Example:
Google Sync Name: John Doe
Facebook Name: John Doe
Twitter Name: johndoe
Is there any way I can change the order of precedence so that contacts display facebook names?
P.S. I hate the way syncing has been done with the Droid X. I don't want all of my Facebook contacts in my Dialers contact list.
You and I are in the same boat with this frustration. I just removed my twitter and facebook from" my accounts" and just installed the official twitter and facebook apps.

Yea, it's pretty frustrating. I see no pattern either of why it chooses to do this to some contacts and not others.
So I am liking my Atrix. But I dont understand MotoBlur Accounts.
I am coming from my N1. Do you have to set up the syncing through MotoBlur Accounts to get the contacts syncing in Facebook, it is not present in the App.
Also, Twitter shows up under other Accounts but Facebook does not when you put your user/pass in the app itself.
I guess I just need an explanation on how Accounts work with MotoBlur.
Hey folks, I was looking for a way to sync facebook pictures to my existing google contacts; the way HTC and Samsung phones did.
I tried Contact sync for facebook; but instead of syncing pics to your google contacts; this app just downloads another set of contacts with no phone numbers.... I would have an entry with no photo from google contacts; and 1 entry with a picture from facebook.
This is not what i'm looking for.
How does haxsync work? does it actually retrieve facebook pics and add them onto your existing contacts??
Just wanted to find out before I purchase.
THanks!
Haxsync also download another set of contacts (to your phone's contact book) however with address, pictures, birthday, phone numbers, etc. Most of the contacts will be automatically merged properly, however you will have to do some manual editing (you know, since some people are on your contact as "sister" while on FB she may be "Jane Doe", Haxsync can't know that)
Haxsync has a lot of options to customize, and the new version has the ability to merge the contact photo from FB with Google contacts, which is rather awesome (no longer have to redo Haxsync when flashing new ROMs).
I highly recommend Haxsync.
I second haxsync. It works great and it also syncs your calendars from Facebook to your phone. So once you accept an invite to an event, it'll be in your phone with dates, times, and location.
