Windows directory not seen - Dash 3G, Snap General

I have the 3VO rom on the htc snap and when connected to my win 7 pc I can not locate the /windows directory. I of course have the option to view hidden files checked but this was to no avail.

Hi there,
That is perfectly normal if you are trying to see it from the win7 mobile device center. Bill doesn't want you to mess with the system files. In order to access this directory, you have several options :
- install a proper file explorer such as Total commander or Resco file explorer on you device, and do it from there
- I think Mymobiler allows you to access this directory from the PC. Needs a check though, I uninstalled this program that kind of bugged me. see http://www.mymobiler.com/manual.aspx
Anyway, I would assume your problem does not come from the 3vo ROM.

Unable to browse \Windows folder in WM5?

Hi,
I just wanted to clean up my Start Menu as I always did using my old PPC device, however, the \Windows folder does not show up on my PC when browsing the Mobile Device. Is this correct? How can I access this folder to do some easy re-arranging of files?
Thanks.
I think Total Commander should let you have access to all the files on the Universal.
I am referring to the normal File Explorer on my dekstop PC. When browsing the mobile device, the \Windows folder is not shown. I can access it on the PPC itself, but being able to do so on the desktop PC would make the whole Start-menu-arranging-thing so much easier!
i haven't had any problems accessing the Windows directory from my PC
if it helps - i get it from:
My Computer -> Mobile Device -> My Windows Mobile-Based Device -> Windows
Hi there i am having the same problem i cannot see the windows folder on my pc and i am useing active syncro 4.1 ,so please if you have any solution can you let me know please
I can't see the Windows folder with my work PC but can at home.
If you're syncing to two pcs maybe only the first one lets you see the Windows folder.
In a file explorer window on your PC, go to drop down menu: Tools - Folder Options... - View Tab - select 'Show hidden files and folders' radio button.
This should now allow /windows to be seen by your PC file explorer.
Genius!
Thanks mate

Really quick question from a newbie

Hi,
How do i go about executing a file on pocketpc. i copy ther file to my device and browse to it with file explorer but how do i run it?
tap it to run it.
Some installs for PPC need to be done on the desctop though, so try running the file on the desktop computer if this doesn't work.
hi
yeah i have tried tapping it and it wont run it and holding the stlus down for the context menu wont give me the option to run it. and i need to run it on the ppc cos it hive me information on the device.
On your PPC you can execute .exe files made for Windows Mobile OS.
You can also open various other format extensions by installing 3dy part programs.
thefunkysoulone: I'd strongly advise you to get hold of a third party file explorer. I recommend GSFinder although others will recommend Resco, Total Commander and others I imagine. This will give you good control over program execution and files.
How you install app that does put you in a chicken and the egg situation however, tending towards infinity.

How to overide \windows\ access protected files?

I know people use total commander but I have no idea how to use it. Is there an easier way? Or can someone explain to me how to use it to copy over some files to my \windows\ folder?

Just use Resco Explorer. It's not freeware but is a great application with the ability to overwrite protected files and has many settings to play with.

Select the file you want... Click file... Select Copy/Move... Click Tree to select where you want to drop the file.
I found this at this page, and it works for me about 90% of the time.
Download EnableRAPI and extract all files from the zip archive.
Double click on EnableRAPI.bat and leave the DOS window it launches open
Open Folder Options and choose to "Show hidden files and folders" and de-select the "Hide protected operating system files" option.
On Windows XP, this would be done by launching Windows Explorer and clicking on Tools --> Folder Options and then the View tab.
On Windows Vista, this would be done by going to Folder Options from the Control Panel and then clicking on the View tab.
Connect your device to your PC using ActiveSync (Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista).
Browse the device's file system using the File Manager tool in ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center.
When you have finished making all of your modifications, close the EnableRAPI DOS window.
I'm not sure what this actually does, though, or why it works.

I tried that, it doesn't work. I'm using a Blackjack II running WM6.1. Does anybody know why it doesn't work and how to copy files into the windows directory?

You are posting in the wrong forums. However, your question is rather generic. I find it best to use either Resco Explorer or TotalCommander (as well as ActiveSync of course).

File explorer problem

I went on windows folder on file explorer. It took ages to load so quit file explorer. Now whenever i load file explorer on my phone i just get the rotaing windows logo timer thing.
How can i get back to a different page on explorer? This is driving me mad!
I'm running duttys rom if that makes a difference.
Same thing happened to me. I waited about 3-4 minutes and as the explorer was finally (you just have to wait) showing the content of the windows folder, I switched to a higher level. That was it. And remember - never ever try to go inside the windows folder on winMo
yes, the /windows directory has a lot of files and it takes a while for loading. Just wait until it's loaded and then change the directory (e.g. to /) because the explorer will always open at the last visited directory!
duttys rom has maybe another file explorer installed (look in the programs directory)
if not, then install another explorer. I'm using Total Commander
Yup, that even happens if you access your Windows folder via your PC (ActiveSync). Use TotalCommander for any operations in your Windows folder, that's the fastest free alternative.

can't copy to my windows folder?

HI,
For some reason I can't copy any files in my windows folder
I select the file, copy, go to my windows folder, but then I can't paste them. I don't get an error message, but the option "paste" in the menu isn't even there, everytime I try this doesn't matter what kind file I choose
And the windows folder isn't viewed when I'm using my pc to look on the HD of my Toch 2 (WM 6,5)?
isn't that weird?
What explorere do you use, with Total Comander i can do it.

I'm using the explorer of the Activesync program. If I connect the device to my pc, I can only see the internal HD (as far as I know) using the activesync explorer.
And the copying I tried from the device itself. So I've selected a file on my HTC (using the explorer of the HTC itself), and tried to paste it in the windows folder, but mt HTC doesn't show the option paste in the windows folder.
You suggest to use Total Commander for this?
Then I will try this as soon as I'm back home from work....
Look, you cant see Windows folder without special Explorer, cause its a system folder. Take Total Comander, install on your phone, and you will be able to copy/paste files out from Windows folder, and then put them on your PC.
