I spent way too much time trying to get this working last night, so I'm here to ask if anyone knows how I can get my gmail account setup through ActiveSync, rather than the normal gmail app.
My reasoning for this is because I want to have my mail viewable through the Mail widget - but it will only let me choose an ActiveSync account
To setup the ActiveSync account on my HTC Touch Pro I just followed Google's guide here: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299
I used the same details to setup an ActiveSync account on my Hero, and it seems to successfully connect and tell me it's synced - but none of my emails are appearing?
Any ideas anyone? Or is there perhaps a way to select my gmail account in the HTC Mail widget?
You won't get email through ActiveSync with gmail - it's for Contacts and Calendar only.
You could use IMAP or POP3 access to your gmail account, via the HTC mail app...
First, make sure you have IMAP access enabled to your gmail account: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77695
Then, make sure you use the "manual setup" option in the HTC Mail app, and use the info provided on this page to proceed: https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=114408
I've connected at the wifi, the internet is working on the device but i get an error wen I try to connect to my gmai account or wen i want to set up my yahoo email.
I also experienced the same problem at start but only with the yahoo account, for the yahoo account to work you need to do the following:
1. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned off and 3g or Edge is connected.
2. Press the E-Mail icon (the default Android E-Mail application)
3. Enter your Yahoo E-Mail address and password
4. Press “Manual Setup” in the lower left hand corner
5. For “Incoming Server Settings” set the IMAP server to “imap.mail.yahoo.com”
6. For “Outgoing Server Settings” set the SMTP Server to “smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com”
7. Check “Require sign-in” and press Next
The yahoo account will only work when using the 3g or Edge network, it does NOT work with wifi. This is not the case with gmail which worked fine from the beginning both on wifi and 3g.
thanks for the advice.

There's a similar item in the settings on your gmail account.
the Google Mail program does not need it, but to use the standard Mail program, you need to go to gmail on your pc
click options
set the IMAP access on in the settings somewhere.
Then the HTC Mail app can access your Gmail as well.

Their is one solution but it works only half of the time. You may try it.
1. disable wifi and you must have cellular data active.
2. Enter your account details in Email app.
3. Select manual setup, select Imap, under incoming server select imap.mail.yahoo.com, as I mentioned it works sometime so may be you will get a message user name password can not be verified in that case you can try after sometime, untill you get success.
4. outgoing server smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
I can confirm this workaround does work I am using it like this with two of my yahoo account.

Hello everyone..
I have setup two gmail account in accounts and sync...
but the problem is that whenever i share any file/photo from some other app via gmail, the gmail app uses the last set up gmail account to send the email.
the last set up account is not my default account..
the gmail app doesn't have a setting to set my default email and the email from which the file or photo has to be sent cannot be changed..
is there a way in which i can set up my main gmail as my default gmail????????
Okay Fine...!!!
I figured it out....!!!!
Downloaded k9 mail app from the market... used my other emails from k9(works perfectly) and kept only my primary email in accounts and sync..!!!!
The app Gmail only allows for one gmail account, so one would have to use another email app such as Email or k-9 to get mails from various accounts. Since I don't want to pull duplicate gmail messages, I'd prefer to disable Gmail. Would the disabling cause some ill effects such as synchronization and accessibility to Google cloud? If so, any solutions?
Nope, if won't cause any issues. Just disable the gmail sync in the settings under your google account and you'll be fine
The gmail app can use as many accounts as you like, so I'm not sure what you're referring to. The gmail app is completely safe to install, as it can be installed/uninstalled right from the Play Store.
yea gmail lets you have many accounts, and the messages are separated and no not join the two emails.
just goto settings and add a gmail account, goto gmail click on your email address at the top and you can switch between the 2 there

Yes Gmail allows for multiple gmail accounts, but I don't see how I could add other accounts such as yahoo and work emails. Please correct me if this is not the case.

The Gmail app is for Gmail and "Google Apps" email accounts.
The Email app is for POP3 / IMAP4 / SMTP / and Active Sync (Exchange) accounts.
Yahoo has their own email app, but does offer IMAP4 and SMTP for premium accounts.
Check with the company IT department for ActiveSync settings for Work Exchange Email.
I have Gmail disabled and have seen NO troubles after doing so..
I gave up on the Gmail app when they removed the ability to increase the font size from within the app..
