Hey guys, I've had my HD2 for a few months now and I'm loving it, especially with all the addons you guys are bringing out. I just have a couple of ideas/requests that i think you guys might be able to help out with (mainly because I have zero programming experience!).
A ".co.uk" button
When you type addresses into opera, you have a ".com" button on the keyboard. When you hold it, it gives you options for .net, .org and .gov. Is there a way to get .co.uk on that list?
A restart device button
When you hold the end call button you're shown the Quick List which gives you options to power off, lock device, set vibrate and terminate data connection. Can we add Restart Device to that list?
Also, I know this has been covered in another thread but does anyone know if HTC will be releasing the 1.72 update for unbranded devices in the UK? I got mine from o2 but cannot use the official o2 update as mine was not originally branded.
Thanks for all your help!
the nwe cookies home tab has a reset button... don't know about .co.uk......
restart? or reset?
several options for reset already out. Restart shouldn't be needed, if you are pushing that button to get that screen, it means your device is on...
1.72 is 1.66 with operator branding, you aren't missing anything.

I mean restart, so it would turn it off and back on again automatically. Some programs need you to restart your device after installation and I think that would be quicker than having to turn it on and back on again.

Oh ok, thanks. I have read people saying that it's snappier and an sms fix has been applied. Is this all compared to their old 1.4 rom rather than 1.66?

The best thing would be to get cookies home tab 1.8 as it already has reset & restart built in

Soft reset
Soft reset takes care of installing programs, its just like turning off, or pulling battery,,,, As far as I've been told, could be wrong? I am quite often,,lol
If you don't want Cookies home tab, then you can install XDAShutdown, there is a HTC style skin for it, and its got a few options as well as restarts

it will have any updates that are listed for the 1.66 rom on the htc website already applied, that will be the only difference.
As for 'it feels snappier', , , you ever installed a fresh OS on a PC? It always feels like you have a snappy new machine . Same principal. They just flashed a nice fresh rom, got rid of all teh extra bits and pieces they forgot they had installed months ago, its BOUND to feel snappier.
Anyway, if you want to try it, but are worried about hspl and warranty, it is only out of warranty whilst hspl is physically on the phone.
So, install hspl2, choose 1.66.hspl, install the O2 rom via usb, when its done, re run hspl2, and choose 1.66.0000.
Everything back to stock in less than ten minutes, no warranty issues.

maybe I will have a look.
ok so basically the cab file does do a replace of the xml files that store the key values for the keyboard. However I cant see the .com button. maybe someone more experienced in modifying the keyboard settings can take a look at this and see where you would need to modify it to add this function.

Hi all,
I am aware about all the other threads but yet could not get across some nonsense on my MDA Pro.
I went back to the t-Mobile ROM because of german support on many features but running ozVGA now successfully with two exceptions:
1. Each time I reset the device, I have to reinstall vjbigphone (0.91) and re-run the .exe to get my dialer back to full screen. VJ did a real got job, but I hope anyone coud tell me, what could be wrong?
2. Does anyone know, how to get rid of the stupid and ugly video-button in the t-mobile dialer? I replaced all BMPs with the one's from iMate, but yet video is the stupid grey. flat button.
Once this is solved, I will write down exactly how to get really the tiny machine running with the best tools for best results.
Greetings

ndee: why do you have to re-install the app?
After a soft reset, what happens when you choose the "load and fix" option from the tray?
I am hoping to spend some time on this app over the next few days. Many apps being fixed, one a at time...
V
Hi Vijay,
when I softreset, everything on the phone is back to the tiny layout. Even though I "load and fix".
Only workaraound I figured out is reinstall :-(
ndee
Strange - I know we spoke about this before, but then, after you re-install it works?
Have you tried not loading VJBigPhone, soft reset, load the phone (eg press green key, so you can see Tiny buttons) and then load VJBigPhone. Does that make any difference? Re-installing shouldn't make any difference, it doesn't load any settings etc from the registry etc...
v
I have some similiar problems. I'm using also the neweset german ROM on my MDA Pro and after a soft reset I don't have to reinstall the app, but I have to close it and restart it again to gain access to the phone application. Without close VJBigPhone nothing happens, after starting the application again everything works fine (till the next soft reset, which happens every morning after the daily backup)
Wolfgang
I have an idea what might be the problem then.
The code was modified a while back to try to find the "phone" program without you having to specify the name in your own language (eg "telefon" instead of "phone"). However, it's possible that if the phone isn't found, it's getting confused. I'll try to look at the code again soon.
I'm not writing any new programs for a while while I do updates to all the old stuff
V
out of sudden, I dont need to reinstall anymore. Just after reset, I run vjbigphoneres and phone comes up full screen. Dont know what I did and how long it will last - keep you informed though - thx so far.
Any solution for the ugly video button of TM insight?
ndee
TM Button: I know you've spoken about it for a while, but I've got no experience of it, I don't really use my Universal I think someone (you?) posted one before, but could you send me a screenshot if you've got appropriate software, and if you have them, a zip of your extended rom?
V
Dear all,
I'm new here, I've had a good look through the forum, but I feel a lot of the information is a little over my head. I was hoping for some advice for my new MiniS out of the box:
Regarding setting up my device, are there any programs I should or shouldn't install? Or anything I should uninstall immediately?
Am I better off with the O2 ROM, or is there another I should flash my device with?
Are there any particularly good pieces of software that you could recommend?
Thank-you very much for your help,

look at htc magician forumpart (topics)
Surely since the XDA Mini S is an HTC Wizard, not a Magician, he'd be better off looking at the Wizard forum?
o2 mini is a magician init
Yes, but the thread title refers to an O2 Mini S.....
He is refering to MiniS mate.
HA HA, Now that the squabbles are over, , I'd like to add my bit.
The best thing anyone can do first off with the MINI S is toss that o2 customised crap right off.
I am assuming you have'nt put too much on it yet
Press the soft reset button. (Under the IR port)
As you let go of that reset button, make sure you are pressing both the comm manager button, AND the voice buttons. Thats the top left side and upper right side buttons.
This is called a hard reset and WILL ERASE EVERYTHING prom the phones memory.
Do the screen calibration and cut/paste bit.
When it say's "Tap the screen to start using your device", be ready to press the soft reset again.
This is because when you tap the screen, a customisation box will appear.
PRESS THE RESET BUTTON, when you see this box.
The phone reboots and hey presto, proper PDA, not o2's idea of one.
Hope this helps.
Just to add to the above, there is a thread on here regarding decent software for the PDA.
Have a look through the thread list and you'll see it.
I would recommend Resco as a decent file manager with some excellent features. Be careful with some of these tools if you are not sure what you are doing.
Other than that, have fun.

Hi Jerry-S and everyone.
I've just got a T-Mobile MDA Vario, the Wizard version of T-Mobile.
Would you recommend me doing the same hard reset so that I can get rid of T-Mobile settings?
My Device Information shows:
ROM version: 1.6.2.4 WWE
ROM date: 11/15/05
Radio version: 01.12.10
Protocol version: 4.0.13.23
ExtROM version: 1.6.2.105
Can I update to a newer ROM and if yes where can I download it and how can I update ROM, please?
Thanks for your help.
Rgds,
PPB
Hi BUSPBP,
I am a relatively new user myself and won't offer advice on anything I am not sure of.
I have seen ROM updates on here for other networks but as I am on o2 and running my most recent ROM, I can't comment.
Just to be sure you understand though, the updating of a rom that isn't specifically for your unit has many risks. At the end of the day, it's up to you so just put ROM in the search page and have a look at what comes up.
As for removing the Network Provider software, I would assume that the process is the same for them all, as the extra operator features are installed from an extended ROM.
That's to say, the main OS is installed first and then the extra stuff installs afterward.
If you can replace things that you have put on your phone then give it a go, it'll either work or not.
At the end of the day, if you like the extra things and want them back, do another hard reset and let everything install as it wants.
Hope this helps.
Hi Jerry-S,
Thanks for your help. After reading through some threads in this forum I've decided to upgrade my Wizard with the new Qtek ROM. It now works much faster and I don't have any more problem with Wifi connection.
Can you or anybody please advise what does the ExtROM do and if I can exclude it from the device? Any good in doing this?
PPB
If you think of it this way, it's a little easier to understand.
When the device is new or has a hard reset, the following happens.
(If I get this wrong, I'm sure someone will let me know. LOL)
1. The device powers up and a section called the Bootloader starts.
2. As the operating system is not there, it installs it from a ROM.
3. The operating system then runs and you do the stylus calibration
and the date / time settings
4. That is the PDA set up.
5. After that, another ROM is installed, (If you let it), which contains all
the customised software for your particular phone company supplier.
All it means is that the basic Windows OS is running at the same time as the custom software and the Windows functions are accessed by the company customisations that you are presented with.
Because of this, the processor in the PDA is working in effect, twice as hard and it is slower.
As far as I am aware, there is nothing in this custom layer that can't be done directly in the Windows layer.
I would like to upgrade my ROM also as the o2 ROM is one of the oldest versions released, but as I see it, once installed, there is currently no way to downgrade back to the previous version if something goes wrong. Thats the only reason I have'nt done it.
As for removing it completely, I am not sure. I have seen posts on here reffering to that, but I think it is contained somewhere that you couldn't make use of anyway. i.e. Making use of the extra storage space that it takes up.
I know I get a bit long winded, but I have a bit of a job explaining stuff. LOL, sorry.
Hi Jerry-S,
I remember someone told that we could prevent the ExtROM from installation by soft-resetting before that process, but since I don't know yet what are included in the ExtROM and if there's any good in doing so I haven't tried it yet.
I don't know if the O2 device and network settings have anything too special that you could hardly set. In my case though I've got the T-Mobile version I am actually using Orange, so it's perhaps easier for me to come to the decision. And it's worth it for me. No problem with the upgrade, given that I've unlocked CID in advance as someone has warned. And the device is running much faster. That has even halted my intension of doing the overclock, at least for now
PPB
Comments recieved.
I must admit, I kept looking and looking at the ROM file on my computer thinking errrrrrrmmmmm...............
Well I did it, but I didn't notice any real increase in speed, actually it seemed slower to me.
That in mind I though, balls and put the o2 Rom back on.
As for the EXT ROM reatures, I think the main advantage is that the MMS and Mobile web settings are set for you, but those could be found quite easily.
Im Running Htc Home Under One Of My Ultimate Launch Tabs, And Everytime I Soft Reset My Touch, Ultimate Launch And Htc Home Pop Up On The Screen, Which Means I Have To Go To The Today Screen And Uncheck The Htc Home Tab Each Time. Can Someone Help Me Out And Let Me Know Why This Keeps Happening, Because I Set Ultimate Launch To Only Open The Htc Home Tab On Startup. I Dont Get Why It Shows Up Twice.
i have htc home as a plugin of UL and it works. Sorry dont know
Do you mean on starting there is HTC Home and also UL working although you disabled the HTC Home for the Homescreen ?
May it would help to install UL new ? (dont forget to safe the .ini file of UL)
I get what your saying so basically you have 2 htc home screens coming up. Since htc is being enabled on startup in the today screen I would think it may be the version of htc home but I dunno. It could depend on your device and what os your running also.
Ultimate Lunch, Well there would be Steak and Potatoes and probably Natalie Portman..... Umm what? Oh Launch? Ok My Mistake...
So you have HTC Home IN Ultimate Launch. But you get to. If its Enabled in Ultimate Launch, then Go to your Today Screen Settings and make sure it isn't Checked in there. Just see what happens there.

can you suggest a better rom to flash to? i cant seem to find the most basic 6.1 rom, im trying to customize it myself
I don't suggest ROMs, too much personal opinion. Maybe you can try installing Schaps AdvancedConfig and Doing what I recommended for Marty. I can't remember the RegSettings and too Busy to Look but I wonder If that maybe why.
this is sort of a "duh" comment but have you used HTC Home Customizer or or any other program to unlock HTC home? If its locked that might be the problem.
JimmyMcGee thanx for trying to help but i have tried locking and unlocking home but still same thing.........i think i have narrowed it down to weatherpanel? just did a hard reset ...started installing my cabs and i think it started happening after weatherpanel was installed...
WeatherPanel does cause some issues under UL. I had the exact same issue. Once I installed, it it would hang for a long time any time I made changes to the UL config. I kept restarting it cuz I thought it was hung. BUT a couple of times, I let it play out and didn't soft reset. After a couple of times of "letting it run through" without resetting, then it just stopped being a problem. I can't explain it. ANd I can't guarantee it will stop happening for you. But now I have WP in UL with NO issues...
UL doesn't start after hard reset
Hi, could someone tell me what am I doing wrong?
I hard reset my phone.
Previously, I saved the UltimateLaunch.ini on the Storage Card. After reset, I did copy/paste of that file in Program Files/Ultimate Launch.
Next, this is what's happening - I activate UL as a plugin, and it shows distorted.
Then, I dis activate it and activate another one, randomly. It shows on the Today screen, as expected.
But then, when I try to re-activate UL, it doesn't show anymore.
I try to activate any other plugin - no one shows up.
I soft reset - I still cannot activate any plugin, if before reset, UL it was checked. If before reset, I uncheck UL and check something else (Calendar, e.g.), then the Calendar will appear on the screen.
Long story short, if I activate and deactivate UL, it will not re-appear again.
I did not have yet purchased the license - not sure if that has to do with anything.
Could someone help me?
Hi there
I've just got my shiny new Touch HD. Wow - what an upgrade to my Orbit 1 (don't laugh). I loved my Orbit but this is so much better. It's not revolutionary, but everything has evolved so well i.e. the big screen, no horrible frame around the screen, USB 2 connection, love the Drive mode thingi when you plug it to your computer ect.
Only problem is I can't get TomTom to work - I'll sort that out later...
Now to the question - how do you unlock the extended rom (I think that what they call it)? I want to prevent the applications from installing i.e. TouchFlo Home Plugin after a hard reset. I find the combination of SPB Pocket Plus 4 Tabs, Today Agenda (and a few other apps.) a much better combination for me.
Hope someone can help.
Anis
Did you try a soft reset when the waiting screen pops up after a hard reset?
Why dont you just uncheck TouchFlo in Settings-Today?
Thanks for the replies.
Ideally I wouldn't want unwanted apps to install. I know it's a fast device but I like to have a clean system.
I could reset the device when it's about the install everything (don't even know how to reset) however I want to keep certain things like the Black HTC theme and a few other things.

I just tried this last night and tried at multiple stages... and no matter what it insisted on installing all the bloatware. Any idea what I might be doing incorrectly?
When you say "wait screen" - do you mean the initial WinMo v6.1 green-splash screen, or the same display with "Please wait while we [something] for first time use"? I also tried at the Home screen before the customization begins, and while it was running... all still ended up with the software being installed. :/
I've read some great posts (here and Howard Forums) about using Total Commander and entering "\Extended Rom\" but that doesnt open anything on my device. Does that area need to be unlocked?
Thanks for any tips!
I think you need a custom Rom without all of the applications. I had one on my Omnia.
hmm...
typing "\Extended_Rom\" in total commander does not work.
those registry which hide/unhide and lock/unlock extended rom are not there too.
check the wiki, nothing about extended rom or customed rom which is meant for Service Provider specific.
Or is it because the HD I am having is tied to 1 provider, but it is already SIM unlocked which can use other providers SIM.
The original rom is lag, very lag, lots of rubbish in "\windows\" directory beside M$ original files.
How are the cooked roms around in the forum?

+1 for this plan. I'm running a lighter custom 6.5 rom (NRG) with none of the startup ui's. I've loaded Mobile shell#3 and it works very well. Quickest combo I've found so far for snappy-ness and speed. Battery life is fine with it. Try diff light roms without the startup bloatware and you may find something that you like.
I ve tried both 3.09 and 2.00 versions on my 1.61 stock HD2 , but both getting "Open of EnglishUS" failed error
Is Swype not compatible with this rom? What am I doing wrong?!
It isn't compatible. If you want this feature, you'll have to:
1) buy an HD2 that has it in the ROM already.
or
2) flash to a ROM that contains it in order for it to work properly.
I did so, largely for this reason, and although many have complained about its function, particularly on secondary/long press keys, I have not had much difficulty with it, although I have seen the issue and have worked my way around it when it presents, because I find the software an absolutely indispensable feature for the way I use my phone every day.

I've noticed that it seems to happen in specific contexts, and that in general, if I can keep my finger dead steady during the long press, it won't have a problem reading the long press about 95% of the time. Long press "?"/M seems to always work at the end of sentences, at least for me, for example, so I think there is some context issues related to this.
I also tried deleting the Swype User data files and it seemed to help. Not sure why, or if it was real or imagined, but the issue was less common after doing so.
I can't do without it in my HD2, so I'll live with it the way it is, because even with these issues, I don't mind it.

Hi Donal,
Do you have a download link for the OzROM you have mentioned in your sig? I assume that installing it will wipe phone memory/data? I'm only asking as I have a problem with Swype, with it often causing the 'keyboard button' to become inoperable, I'm wondering if it's a problem with my Rom, as I only have the old 'out of the box' one, 1.43 or so I think.
I just reinstalled the Omnia2 versin of swype.
I somehow prefer that version..more used to it and it doesn't have that secondary key problem...

Don't mislead people by offering advice when you don't know what you're on about.
There is no connection between the Swype CABs and the ROMs. It should all work.
Now, that error isn't uncommon, I've had it myself. Unless you get the error after installing the Swype HTC skin found on XDA, you can fix the error merely by uninstalling Swype and reinstalling using the CAB. Select the Swype keyboard to make sure it works and then do a soft reset.
I've used both the Omnia II and T-Mo HD2 Swype CABs on a variety of phones with a variety of ROMs and it all works. Currently using the HD2 CAB on official 1.66 WWE ROM and it works well.

I have used both versions of swype, Omnia 2 and 3.9. I find 3.9 more pleasing to the eye. The buttons are bigger and the letters are bigger. Yes its a little harder to press and hold to get the numbers but it works everytime for me. Seems that the touch points are smaller.
But when installing both versions I lost email settings and wifi settings. The wep password disappears for the router and my smtp and pop settings disappear for emails. I have switched back and fourth and both versions cause the same issues. But so does pulling the battery when to do a reset. So it seems to be more of an HTC issue and not a swype issue.
I have heard others saying about the 3.9 and lock password being changed. I have a feeling swype 2.0 does the same thing. Might be linked to the other problems.

I had the same error. I solved by installing my language version and on Device memory instead of Storage card.
Anyway, I'm wondering how can I edit keyboard layout...

Could you please pull your cab. We do not yet have an official beta for Windows Mobile. It has been announced that Swype will be available through T-Mobile on the HTC HD2, but today it is only available through Verizon on the Samsung Omnia II.
