my dopod 818 pro running wm5 is unable running 2 or more program, when i try running 1st program n then running 2nd program, the 1st program is automatic close, i thinks the problem is program memory is to small, is there any way to increasing program memory from internal storage memory?
Thanks

Hai guys!
Where do you have installed TomTOm 5 on your Jam?
I don't know if is better to install it on memory card, on RAM or on ROM....
Obviusly the maps on SD...
But the app?
I install everything on SD. (need to modify the registry to move the voice file to SD) So far so good.
can you indicated datail
I do install to the SD but it still intalled some files in main memory
I moved the files menually and modifiy the registry for the modified path
I installed all of it to the ROM (did the bigstorage rom hack), except for the maps which are on SD.
Install into RAM at all costs. Why? Because internal ROM and SD-Cards are way slower then internal RAM, youll slow down the speed of programs quite a lot. Using a Qtek S110 with 128MB RAM this is no problem at all but even on my old iPAQ 5450 with only 64MB RAM is was easily possible leaving 32MB for program exection.

I agree RAM is the fastest one but I don't think putting everything on SD has any noticeable performance hit to run TT5 at all (it does takes more time to load, that's it). In fact, I always run TT5 + IGuidiance 2.1 + BetaPlayer all at once without performance problem. I don't want to spend extra $$$ to upgrade to 128mb and I rather save more ram to run more programs by all the tricks. (I do manage to get 35-40 mb free with many programs installed)

Since we have to put the maps to SD anyway, I won't put the program to rom. Instead, I use my bigstorage for DLLs to save ram (by memmaid) and programs that still have to run even I need to swap the SD. Examples are:
1. Resco file explorer
2. betaplayer
3. Softick card export II.
4. Cyberon VoiceCommander (or MS Voicecommand)
5. Resco picture viewer
...
Due to the amount of issues with memory, I decided to hard reset my JASJAR and rebuilt all third party soft into a SD.
Following the hard reset I removed skype (because doesn't work), the backgammon game, and the CA AV. Gained 7mb of memory.
I'm using a standard SD 128 (by the way, I'm planning to buy an SD of 1gb, but I don't know what speed I should buy to best performance, i.e. 66x, 80x, 120x or 150x. What do you recommend?)
For your reference, I have installed the following third party soft in the SD and seems to be working OK
- resco explorer 2005 v5.22 (the today cab plug-in I installed it on the device_storage, all the rest of the SD_storage).
- WebIS Pocket Informant 2005 rev 4
- GSPlayer v2.22
Last question, anybody noticed severe battery drain following a installation of any program? I ask it because I saw somewhere and I can't find it anymore that some of the programs could cause it.
regards.
Hi All,
Im starting this thread as I would like to know if the Storage and Program totals are totally different on different devices and if so by how much.
The reason? I have a T-Mobile MDA Pro (UK) and an O2 XDA Exec (UK) both with different Storage Totals !!!
Find your totals here - Start | Settings (System tab) | Memory (Main tab)
Post the TOTAL figures for Storage and for Program
T-Mobile MDA Pro (UK)
Storage - 39.59Mb
Program - 49.70Mb
O2 XDA Exec (UK)
Storage - 44.23Mb
Program - 45.06Mb
I mate Jasjar, but using Ivan's AKU 3.2 Beta 4 ROM.
Storage 43.72
Program 49.70
Storage 43.72 max capacity
Program 48.70 max capacity
Using Jasjar, but Ivan's AKU 3.2 b4 rom with extended rom unlocked and used for application installations.
Reboots at 32mb available program with zero startups and zero today items, and zero data synchronised.
On hard reset, used storage is about 3mb. cant remember used program.
qtek 9000
qtek 1.30.77 rom
storage: 43.50MB
program: 49.72MB
Hi,
I have all programs installed on 2GB miniSD card, and have 30MB in storage part of memory available, but have only 10MB free space available for programs (I'm running skype and some other big programs).
I'd like to redistribute space as I could in windows mobile 2003. Is it possible to do in WM5?
It's really anoying when iGo says it's not enougm memory available and I have to shut down some programs.
I asked a couple of times.
Got no convincing ansers. I hope some tech guru can find the solution!
I heard WM2005 handles the memory is a completely different way from WM 2003. So probably it is impossible.
Thanks

it varies between devices apparently. On my uk tmob vario it wont move at all, even using memaid  on my old ipaq however it worked fine
You can NOT use (static) flash ROM (say, a storage card) as dynamic (program) RAM because of the speed difference, which is in the order of orders of magnitude.
That is, you can NOT increase the program memory in your PDA in any way - except for sending it in for PPCTechs for a (costly) RAM upgrade. Sorry.
Hi, I am new to this forum. Cut to the chase, I have this dopod 818pro that as you know, has too little program memory. I am wondering if there is any application that enable me to use my SD card as program memory instead...

Unfortunatly this is not possible
