yeah.... I dunno, seems like i am lost on how to work this app....? I knew it was a gimmick....
but I do love the phone

Not working for me either. Tried on two different evo.

My moment it never worked....seems to be working fine right now though. First time i shared it force closed. has worked since then
qik.com/munsterrr

I think the Qik network is getting slammed right now, and the program did work on my Moment. I also would say that this is not a gimmick, when the video chat works it'll be pretty sweet.

Yeah the Qik app does work.i was using it earlier and it worked great. I was chatting wit a bestbuy employee that was selling a Evo to a customer.

tomato, tamato..... i may want to pick my nose while I talk to you.... I just cannot really see the reason behind it unless you wanted to say hi to a family member, maybe live too far apart to see them, but then again I am getting old and may very well be missing something

What I did was download it thru my g1 and pulled the file to my computer then put it on my evo SD and installed it using astro it worked after a reboot its really nice.

Is the YouTube update working fine on your G2?

Well, I just had my G2 replaced today from T-Mobile, and to tell you the truth my new G2 has been working better than my pre-release one. Even the hinge is good. Oh, and the new Youtube works great!

Mine kinda freezes up and I have to restart..

It crashed on me the first time I used it after my install. Very troublesome..
Likewise its a major problem with the g2 I checked a lot of the market comments they're saying the same thing so I uninstalled
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Yup....I just tried it, and it crashed
I uninstalled the update and now it's fine. I hope they fix this soon cause I really like the new UI
I just tried it and it lagged the phone when I quit the app. Everything was responding incredibly slowly - about 15 seconds to flip from one launcher page to the next.
I was finally able to execute a power off sequence and reboot the phone. When it was done booting and the widgets had all settled down I tried viewing the same video again (the "I want an iPhone" animated video) and everything was fine until I quit the video and then the phone was wedged again (15 seconds to switch home pages).
Time to uninstall (if my phone ever reboots)...
works fine here
Thanks guys! Looks like it's split pretty evenly for the most part.
One more question for those that visit other parts of xda - heard anything of the same thing happening on other phones?
At this point, it seems like a big issue, I hope t-mobile posts an update soon.

tried the app twice and both times I had to pull the battery out to reboot the phone. Super lag. Uninstalled the update and the stock works great

Either or can do it. T-mobile through an OTA (they've had to do this before for an issue), or the app creator. It all depends on the circumstance. I'm betting the fix will come from tmobile's side though. Not that I would depend on them, I just have a hunch.
Eveything is working fine here. On a side note the people that are having probelms are you logged in?
I remeber back on my g1 I had problems with youtube only when I was sign in

hi i didnt want to start a new post but i have a prob with youtube i was going to upload a 4min video from my g2 but it keeps saying you can not upload a video larger than 1gb i know a 4min vid is not over 1g can anyone give me a hand im not new to android so i know something is set wrong are im missing something
Its probably an HD video and Id assume the mobile youtube version does not allow you to upload that large of a file. Your best bet, upload it to your computer and to do it from their.
i cant even find the vid on the phone with my pc how do i get in to the gallery the vid says location unknown and its not showing a file size i took the vid on the g2s camera

Best Video Chat Solution

I've tried Fring and had choppy results. I've also tried Tango with minimal success. What's the opinion of the board as to what the best video chat solution is? I have WiFi and 3G/4G available to me so take that into consideration in that bandwidth isn't a problem. Ideally I'd like to be able to chat with my buddy in Spain via my phone to him on his computer. Thanks in advance.

2.2 and yahoo video worked flawless for me.
ooVoo works well for me. It has both desktop & phone apps, and is free. I'm on rooted stock DI18, but it should work on anything.

Well use Yahoo messenger then, both desktop and mobile do video calling but only on froyo. Anyway from what i can figure Yahoo has the most bandwidth for it because it's been working great for me with low 3g

thyat was a good question cause ive tried tango, qik, and fring and they all suck. never tried yahoo messenger though
Got to second the ooVoo recommendation. Quality is great. I haven't tried an actual call with Yahoo, but did notice that the box showing your camera is sideways...

Second for this one. It's a much smaller footprint and better, faster video than yahoo is. The FFC rotation works the way it should, too.
The biggest question for what video chat to use is what your friends and family are using. I've spent years trying to get my parents and siblings to figure skype out and am finally getting some progress. Trying to get them to switch to yahoo or some other jazz would be impossible.
Google talk really needs to come out with video support on desktop, browser and mobile. I think they would be comfortable with that.

[Q] My HTC MyTouch 3G is missing wi-fi as a feature!

I just bought a new unlocked HTC MyTouch 3G from Newegg this past President's Day weekend,
"contract free". The specs list it as having Android OS v1.5:
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875502055&cm_re=mytouch_3g-_-75-502-055-_-Product
I intended to just use my existing T-Mobile prepaid account and just enjoy the phone using wi-fi. The problem is, I cannot log into Google using the phone b/c I don't even see wi-fi as an option. One of the big reasons I bought this phone was to use wi-fi to get my apps. I don't need 3G service.
So what can I do?
HTC MyTouch 3G unlocked (white) w/ 3.5mm jack
This phone doesn't offer the option of enabling wifi to login to your Google account during the startup. It also won't let you get into the ROM without logging in. You should be able to purchase a one-day data plan with your prepaid SIM for $2 from the activation menu to get logged in. Everything else after that you will be able to use wifi for. If, for whatever reason, you need to do a factory reset in the future, you'll have to do the same thing again.
EDIT: Secondly, I highly suggest reading through this post to learn a little bit about your phone.
there are ways around the Google sign in. just search Google I did it on my friends Droid. I think you tap the 4 corners of the screen in a certain order

That's still talking about the four corners trick which doesn't work on stock ROMs, and that's also talking about a custom ROM which a totally different ball game. If he was to root, he could simply bypass the login screen by hitting home and enable wifi, but where he's sitting at right now he'd have to use the goldcard method (which means having to borrow a friends phone running Android to make the goldcard) which is a lot more time consuming then just dropping two dollars on a day pass.
Yes, where there's a will there's a way, but in this case the way is the one I provided. Trust me, I've been heavily involved with this device for a while now (well in electronics time).

alright, I surrender to your superior advice. I agree I know nothing about the mt3g or GSM android phones.
all I know is that the 4 corners trick worked on my friends OEM Droid and I suggested that it may also work on the mt3g.

Funny thing is, once I was able to borrow a friend's SIM that has a data plan associated to it, and login to Google on the phone, the wi-fi was then available.

The lovely xda gurus even modified it to stop the device check.

It is work fine on my p509 w/CM7, so hopefully it will work with all optimus one versions.

Thanks! This works great for me. I tried out a few different programs and everything seems to be working.
What kind of bandwidth does Netflix use on a mobile device? When I stream music I use about 60-70 MB/hour. I am wondering if this is something I can use outside my home or just when I have access to wifi.
Thanks.
installs fine, stream starts, but has the "chipmunk" audio issue (playback twice fast), as well as the green bar at the top issue. (P509, rom void#echo, with hwacc.)

Yeah.. some people have had this issue across different models of phone.
Personally, on CM7 from mik, it works fine for me. I wonder if it 2x on froyo and not gingerbread.
So far as bandwidth taken, I don't know yet. I have only done it on wifi so I haven't been paying much attention.

Mine too. Got my invite the other day. Takes FOREVER to upload songs - and you can only upload from your PC, not the phone. It duplicated the tunes I already had copied over, so that's not too cool. Works pretty well other than that.
EDIT: nvm, works fine for me on midNIGHT rom v5.3! Had to uninstall and reinstall and then I was able to view "settings."

Works fine on mine rooted as well. I love it. It did take like two days to upload like 2500 songs, but then I got like 200 free random songs for joining which was awesome. I'm on the Anonymous ROM v6 on EE03 and it works great. Why would a google "beta" not work on a rooted device. Then everyone at the developer conference would be out of luck I guess. Haha
rooted and working fine. this is the best thing ever, mostly just because i can access my library from any pc! i <3 google!
