boys and girls pc companion just upgraded me phone just now, let me know if anyone else has too///////// x10i .016
uk london
R1FA016? cause i believe most people have that from the UK
i kwow thats y im shocked that im getting an update!!!! =s
what build number is the update that you just got?
Weird, finished the update an I'm still on base band 016 and build .016 Wtf
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
LOL nice
damn i got excited there for a moment
fw 1.6
bband1.0.16
kernel 2.6.29-rel
build r1fa016 if that helps anyone.....prob not
bhah, in belgium we still don't get the .16 firmware
hope well have it soon!
does the update delete any data or smthg?
do u need to backup the phone?
im sure theres better information elsewhere but from the top of my head i think images are lil more sharper, timescape/mediascape have improved a little.. like the buttons react better although cant really speak about timescape seen as i dont use it. i think the keyboard actz more appropriately.. like the 'a' and 'l' button work better now! im sure there was something else but i think i just forgoten lol
as for when your upgrading you lose everything.. id suggest something like mybackup which backups quite a lot of things and then copying your phone contents from usb to pc so that once you upgrade just copy any neccessary files you want back to your phone and then later install mybackup and you should be able to get most your things back to normal.
just for the record ive noticed with mybackup aswel as some others, once you restore apps aparently when you visit the market it doesnt show up in the 'downloads' section. besides that i think there might be just 1 or 2 minor issues like some of the widgets not showing up on screen or something!
hope it helpz!!
i want to update too, it didn't want to update!!!! 014 still. Canada

hey guys
here is mine prob(s)
i tried to update my phone today even tho SE updater said i had the latest software,
After all that no update... so im still on 16, so i had to reinstall al my settings manuelly, even tho i backed it all up it never kept wot i wanted, any way after putting wot i had back on come to copy my contacts over and the prob im having is it keeps duplicating all my contacts 2 or 3 times and i cant work out why its doing it, and also to top it off its gone so slow and laggy its unreal, had no probs with it before,
the only apps i hav is
atk
adw launcher
and all my timescape accounts set up,
please can anyone help with this annoying problem
many thanks for any help
Aaron
I'm guessin the duplicates are showing due to auto sync, maybe also another backup copy on your sd card or se sync?
go to settings, data synchronisation, click google (if its greyed out then choose select sync app n pick google), then untick auto sync, u can leave background data as that's used for market)
Perhaps delete all ya contacts after n maybe restore a copy of them from your sd card (if u hav a copy stored there)
Hope it helpz!!
P.s - maybe before trying to install everything back you should try the repair function of seus/pc companion, as many people have reported to gettin the latest firmware from it somehow!!
Sent from my rooted 024 x10i using swype via xda!!
Well I'm not sure what you're using to back up your contacts, but some apps will restore your contacts and if you happen to restore again, the contacts will duplicate. Another case would be that you've backed up your contacts, then restored them, and you happen to have a google account set up on your phone. Google sync will upload your contacts and therefore causing you to have duplicates, or even triplicates in your case.
What I would suggest is go to your gmail account (if you don't have one, then I suggest you do because it's awesome), then click contacts and organize your contacts there. There is an option for you to merge duplicates or triplicates on that page. ***This is on your computer browser, not on your x10***
Next time you format your phone, simply enter your gmail info on your x10 and your contacts will sync automatically.
In regards to the speed, I suggest doing a clean wipe and seriously consider rooting your phone. Depending on your social needs with the phone, you may need your phone to run at a higher speed and you can tweak that on a rooted phone.
hey guys cheers for the replys,
I had a look into wot you both suggested, i was sync-ing to SE so i switched it to google and seems to hav done the trick, phone seems to picked up its pace a bit now ( think maybe cos off the whole duplicating contacts ) i hav considered rooting but little nervous off doing it,
cheers guys for the help and advise, hav u got and tips, advise on rooting, how easy/hard is it to do, yes im bit off a nebie to all this kinda thing

Honestly, the first time I did root... it took me 8 hours lol, and I didn't even do it correctly. Now I've rooted the phone about 5 times now and i think it is very simple now. There are many tutorials in the developers thread that you could follow. Don't be afraid of trying new things, sometimes you have to take risks.
I really do suggest rooting though.
i really am coming round to the idea off rooting, im fairly confidant on the computer, jus more concered but and damage on the phone as i cost me as it wasnt a contract upgrade, so not worried about warranty jus dont wanna bugger the phone up
To be honest I've done it loadsa times.. I've found it easy since more or less beginning. to be honest the first ever time I thought I messed my phone but always was a work around. you shouldnt really have a problem cause you can keep flashing til you get it right.. but its all upto you!! I much prefer my phone rooted, more things to do, better backup apps, and I don't have to see none of that Se crap lol

Cheers bud, I'm gonna hav a good read up onit this week and perhaps hav a go in the week, if I can still plug up and restore if all goes wrong then it got to be worth a go, and from wot iv read so far, it really does seem the way forward, cheers again for ur help fella, nice to see there ppl out there willing to give up a bit off time to help someone out

forgive me as i am new to this so i havent really checked to see if there is another thread about this particular subject. I want to root my device but i heard that i dont get access to official updates anymore.
If i root my phone will i get access to the 2.1 update when it comes out. will it be available to download anywhere else. As i have noticed 1.6 android is great. any help is greatly appreciated.
Also can i just ask also, what are the best benefits of rooting a sony ericsson experia x10?
thanks
vengeance
No.
(This post is under 10 characters.)
Yup u should be able to get 2.1 one way or another, I don't see y not cuz we'r able to get hold of the minor updates as we speak!
hmm rooting allows you to do mor things with your phone..
Allows you to get rid of most of the crap se have built-in (some have side effects lol so u gotta watch out what you remove here)
Allows for better backup & restore functions
Able to use themes that developers have worked upon
Use apps that you couldn't use before such as barnacle wifi tether, root explorer, adfree, etc..
I'm sure there's more but I'm just in bed thinking of the top of my head lolz
there's also a chance that if the developers are able to boot custom roms in working order we might even get to see android 2.2, even if se don't decide to release it for us
Well hope it helps!!

Thanks Mobzter thats helped loads
I have a problem with the X10 a week ago I got a software update to version R2BA026 and since then the phone is behaving strangely that is to say:
- Uses a battery at an alarming dumb
- Not forgetting that during the conversation is too quiet
- Slow as a snail have to wait before doing anything
- When will the picture and comes up with the camera no longer refresh the application "desktop" or watch stops, the battery level does not change, nothing happens
- Very often you reboot your phone to be able to use it anyway
We ask all of you give some effective solutions ... dressing to restoring the factory settings ... Recommend some programs like launcher, weather widget, etc.
try repair true SEUS
I agree with doing a Repair / Reset. Use Sony Ericsson Update Service not PC Companion.
Also sounds like you need to look at the apps / widgets you've got running. If you do a clean reset then only reinstall one at a time to make sure that there isn't one thats messing with your phone. (I had a battery monitor widget that was just eating my battery like no tomorrow)
So reset the phone :-\ can recommend proven applications?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
not just reset. also update to the latest firmware using SEUS!

He is on the latest firmware! lol
just factory reset, if that don't work maybe backup your sd card, format it and restore your contents back.
wish ya the best of luck!!

exactly it is the latest software already and may I use the blank sd card or any data have to stay? so what about applications? Recommend some

Don't use any task killer, that will save your battery and prevent the clock problem....
sent from my x10i that is banging for a 2.1 upgrade. ...
Erm I don't think you should worry about more applications at mo til ya make some progress with the current situation.
I think you can try fiddle with settings such as turning gps, wifi, 3g n bluetooth of when not in use..
Avoid gps sharing location and try avoid auto sync!
Do manual updates for apps or if ya prefer automatic try make the update interval more reasonable..
Go into sound n display n change brightness to manual.. u won't need it really bright!
I'm sure more people wil giv ya more tips.. I'm jus working on theme at mo but thought I'd share some basic pointers.. altho u prob knew them anyway lolz
Hope it works out for ya!!
P.s - im sure blank sd card is fine.. wel its worked for me before!.. also im using 026 root, your description would sound nothing like mine cuz all is well on my side xcept for the in call volume that is!

thanks for the reply I did just copy contacts to the servo google android then reinstall the Sony Ericsson Update Service and installed a few programs and now no phone behaves differently is to say, yes the battery is working all day but no already but quite often the phone crashes the incoming call and need to remove the batteries in order to use it again, what to do?

Theme support, available under 'Display' settings or with a long-press option on the home screen. Still limited to a handful of SE themes but if you always wanted less blue in the menus it's now an option.
The Gingerbread CRT-off animation makes its first appearance!
The widget overview accessed with a pinch on the home screen now has the widgets floating about. Shaking the phone sends them flying. Pretty and smooth animation but it makes the overview practically unusable IMO, I'll tap SE about this.
Several ring tones have disappeared, among others the one I were using (Digital Phone). Not a big issue.
I'm finally able to set a silent alarm! Previous firmwares allowed setting the alarm sound to 'None' in the list but always defaulted back to the last set sound anyway. This is now fixed.
Setting the alarm time now entails spinning dials instead of clicking. Faster but less precise.
Various UI text is now smaller and sharper.
Additional bloatware, of which some can be uninstalled without root.
'Connected Devices', a more intuitive and cleaner version of the DLNA media server software.
The address book looks a bit different, I think. Unfortunately it's still impossible to change the sorting order of contacts.
The photo album offers a few more options when you call up the menu.
Digital zoom available at all camera resolutions. Only for images though, not video.
Compression levels of still pictures remain overly high.
xLOUD option to significantly enhance audio output strength from the rear speaker. Almost painfully loud IMO.
Using the HDMI mirroring feature now forces the home screen into landscape mode for a better fit with widescreen TVs.
There is also the Keyboard option for International (full keyboard or Phonepad !)
Minor updates:
Video Editor
Data Monitor
Contact Widget
Timescale extension search
Friends & Music
Setup screen has been changed
Nice Update Center
Etc.
They introduced
New weather widget
New layouts for background theme management
New Xloud benefits
Etc
Enjoy!

The wifi does have a weird issue when you first boot it from flash. you have to restart it again it will work correctly. I am not sure if you meant if arc "can" disconnect itself from wifi. i currently tried to disable it and turn it back on it works well. perhaps could you explain it again? sry my english is bad haha
Thats great! Well, I am not sure really, but if you have root explorer installed you can access your system folder.
Perhaps someone else could help us!?

I thought some adb pull command can extract the widgets?
Perhaps you can ask DoomLord.. he usually knows such stuff

oops There you go. i accidentally removed it while i was editing it lol
could u post the CDA/CDF to me?
U know I come from China, the GOV's stoped my PC loading the website of download.
So i just updated my phone to 4.0.a.2.368 and i noticed a lot of really nice changes. Since there aren't any official notes (or at least not ones i can find) i will be posting changes i noticed here along with personal opinion on some of them without a particular order...
xLOUD-The soundspeaker loudness is greatly increased and the sound is so much better.
Media Player-When you play a song the backround of the player changes to a color most noticable in the album art
-looks great
Infinity Button Upgraded-You can now search for artist on wikipedia, lyrics on google and karaoke videos on youtube.
-Finally the button is useful
Lock Animation-It is changed to an old-style tv turn off
-It looks great and kinda gives nostalgia
App Refresh on Reboot-Before i updated my phone every time i rebooted it I had to let it ''sit'' for 5 minutes so it loads all the apps from the sd card and if you opened the menu you would have to reboot it again...but now it shows an icon on every non-loaded app that quickly refreshes to give the real app
-yes yes yes my brother always said its the worst thing about this phone so now i can rub it in his face
Themes-Basically like wallpaper but changes the background of some apps like Messaging
Messaging-Now it opens up so much faster and has a different boot animation
Call handling-You can now manage what calls you receive and block
-I was always wondering why wasn't this already included,i mean all my older phones have it
Timescape-Doesn't freeze when you move the widget and scrolls a lot smoother,in addition Extension Manager has been added so you can get more content to Timescape from more sites and you can also see calls and messages.
Wireless Radio-It seems like its power is increased and you don't get disconnected from older routers altho i haven't been able to test this longer than 30 minutes.
Status switch Widget-The old 4x1 has been replaced with a new 3x2 one
-It looks ugly and it messed up my perfect widget arrangement
Weather widget-Pretty self explanatory
-Now i can delete space-consuming Weatherbug
Favorites and Recent Calls Widget-Also self explanatory
-Its huge but i guess it is useful and at least looks nice
Be sure to add stuff you notice and i will update more stuff tomorow
Be sure to say thanks...as you can see I'm a noob and a pioneer from my country
Already a thread about it. ;-)

I got the update via OTA today (Philippines) and I still have root. Rooted using Gingerbreak 1.20.
OTA for UK now also
preys this fix the ****ty wifi issues *finger crossed*
Bad news for me, the OTA udpate fails on the fourth dot.
Does this mean I deleted an app that it checks to see if you are on stadard build>? Do I have to go back to Uk Generic and root then ota?

@nelly_boy & Xplay. If you have uninstalled anything from your phone after rooting. The ota update will fail.
As you have said nelly_boy you will have to reflash to 2.3.2 to get the stuff you deleted back then root then do the ota to get 4.0.a rooted.
@Xplay. You dont have to unroot to ota update. The whole point of updating using ota is to keep root.
