This may be the update to fix the SD card issue...
http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/04/word-of-htc-evo-4g-storage-bug-couldnt-come-at-a-worse-time/
Brings up a point... anyone trusting the 8 gig card that comes with it or getting a new one?
I had that problem with stock card replaced it with a C 4 16 gb fixed issue

Be careful. Engadget says that it breaks the root path that was revealed here yesterday.
Yeah if you intend on rooting don't do the update. It was suggested that you wait for the devs to release a modded fix.
I'm not even getting a notification that there's an update available! I've even tried to have it search for updates and nothing! lol
The update is there. However I have not enough battery life to install it. Gotta stop messing with the phone for a bit. I've already had a wierd issue where all the apps on the home screen that I remove automatically come back. Same with widgets. I hope this update fixes that. I thought I was going crazy.
Yup, this is the update to fix the small Memory Card issue with not being able to have the correct permissions. I do believe this is the version 1.32.651.6 update.

+1 to what Sirchuk said, this update breaks current Root techniques.

After going back to stock non-root I was finally able to get the update. I know not everyone will want it since it breaks root, but currently the way I use the phone, fixing the SDcard problem is more important.

Go to the market and search for the xda app. It's that one. It makes it very easy to interact with these forums.

If you want root wait the few hours or so until it gets cooked into a rom. If you do the OTA update you run the risk of never being able to get root.

Anyone having issues after installing the leaked OTA update? I've noticed my alarms are no where near reliable anymore. I thought maybe the issue was the stock clock app, but I'm seeing the same thing with "Alarmed Lite". While this isn't a huge problem, I'm interested in seeing if anyone else has noticed anything similar. Right now at a cross roads. I love the updated camera, but I do rely on my phone for alarms.
My only other issue right now is my Karnivor (MQ2'ed, midblocked, Yakuza'ed) is extremely inefficient, and the Yak doesn't seem to recognize a normal trigger pull. Guess that's a topic for another forum though....

stop using a task killer if you are, or check to see if you are killing anything that could be affecting your alarm. I used to use taskiller until I did some reading and I must say the system runs with less quirks now that I don't use one...
If you do not use a task killer, it may just be an issue with the ota, can't say for sure... as per the post above mine, I did read that the ota may not have been released because it may be incorporated into a following ota (possibly froyo) not because of "countless" issues...

I see no threads like that. I do, however, see some threads about getting it to work 100%. I also know from personal experience that any issues are user error, as I had/have the ota installed and have no issues with it whatsoever.
I use my alarm for morning wake ups everyday and it has been flawless. The update gave me no issues that I can see and I've been running it at least a week.

I haven't had a single problem with my OTA update either. But the hit or miss must be why they haulted the release. Can't wait for Froyo as is the same with everyone though.
If what's been going around the internet about 2.2 being released around the end of the month, that could also be why they pulled it. Changed their minds about the update and decided to just go full froyo. Or it could be a test ota meant only for devs to test out the new radio and drivers. At this point it's all speculation...but anyway this is getting offtopic.
To the OP, it almost sounds like you have some kind of auto task killer installed or something...

I actually don't run a task killer, and when I did (pre ota update) I excluded the clock. I use SystemPanel now. Wonder if it's worth it to roll back and try again. Anyone know if it's safe to go back to the previous hboot and then reapply the patch?
My alarms work just fine, have had absolutely no issues with ota update.
Anyone else have problem with FM radio after OTA?
I've rooted 4 incredibles with this ota and only one had a problem of not being able to hear when on a phone call but if you turn speaker on it would work and you could hear it was pretty weird
I had constant reboots with the leaked OTA so I went back to stock. I'll wait for the 2.2 OTA to come out and for Unrevoked to hack it up.
Has anyone installed it yet,
Should we update, or not?
If you don't want root and do want the features given by the update, then update. Otherwise, no.

Yes, you can install the ROM that was created that incorporated all the features of the OTA update and keep root. However, you can't actually just install the update.
how can i check for the update? On my g1, mt3g, and my nexus i go to "about phone" and "update". On my wife's slide theres no such option. I dont know if its still rolling out, but if it already hit her slide ota but she didnt immediately act upon it, would it just stay as a notification or is there somewhere i go on the phone to check for update? thanks

I dont think you can check. It will come automaticly and prompt you for DL. Yes it would stay as a notification. My gf phone had the notification for a few days now but I told her not to update it yet she has been telling me how annoying having the notification in her bar is....hahaha
They must still be rolling it out because I haven't got it yet. As far as root, this update should still allow us to keep it without going through the whole process again... right?? Either way I'll do the ota, rooting is easy - I just want them to hurry up with froyo
Edit: nevermind on the update, just finished reading that I would have to root again but with a completely different exploit.

Tell me how i got a random(s) reboots on the ota rom(rooted ver), it seems to be unstable for me sometimes....I open kb while in sleep and it froze and then bootlooped like 1000's times..sheesh..I was better off before.Talk about an improvement, a rotary phone is more stable than this update. The phone is more hot with heat inside, this cause multiple kernal panics with android OS a lot of time, for me.Now what I not know what do with phone that is 94 farinheit!

I wasn't serious just felt like saying that to respond to his comment...You probably didn't notice the sarcasm.
Ok I guess the wife hasn't received it yet, no notification. Seems like they should all be out by now. With my g1, mt, and nexus I don't think I've ever waited for an ota, I'm in san Antonio and ota's just never come. I've always had to do it manually, but I haven't kept up with my wife's slide, can I manually update her slide for her?
I accidentally updated to the 2.3 update from sprint, which naturally killed root and battery life of my shift, and so now I'm wondering if there is a way to ruu back to 2.2 so I can root and save some juice, or am I just S.O.L. until devs figure something else out?
This has been answered in several different threads... As of right now there is no way to return to 2.2. Until another root method is found, your pretty much stuck with what you have.

Yeah, make sure you let us know. I updated my wife's phone the other day .I want to take it back to 2.2 so I can root it if need be.
I found a store in my town that had the SD Card gingerbread update so I went there today. While I was waiting to be seen, I saw a My Touch 4g get updated using the SD Card by a customer service person. It took about 10 minutes. I was encouraged to see how quick it took. Now it was my turn. The customer service (C/S) who assisted me was a former tech support person for Tmoble who was now working in a store. She was very knowledgeable and very nice. She took my sdcard out and put in the gingerbread sdcard. The update started. There was about 10 steps that the update had to go through. The first step was 'bootloader'. The C/S said that this was the first G2 that she has done. She said she had done her My Touch 4g Slide and the update went smooth so again I was encouraged. I was happy to not have to wait for the OTA.
Well the update started on the first step and 45 minutes later, it was still on the first step. So she stopped the update to allow me to do a factory reset of my phone and I did so. The store had two gingerbread sdcards so she tried the second one on my phone. I went to starbucks for coffee and 20 minutes later, the update was still stuck on the first step. So, she told me that there was something wrong. She asked me if I had done anything to the phone? I said no. I told her that this G2 was a replacement phone that I had just recieved about a month ago because my first G2 stop charging. Well she gave up and so did I.
I called TMO C/S and they said that they had no record of the G2's having problems with the store gingerbread sdcards. He first asked me if I had any third party apps on my phone, I said no. They told me that the cards did not come from them but they came from HTC. So, I called HTC. The guy there commenced to reading the press release that we all have read a thousands times about being able to go to the store and get gingerbread after August 6. He also told me that he had no record of G2's having problems getting the update at the stores. I asked him if the same SD Card was to be used on the My Touch and on the G2? He said that he did not know and yes he was tech support . He advised me to call HTC headquarters at a different number and ask them that but they were closed.
I know some of you are gonna tell me to do the update myself with the links that are eveywhere on the web. Well, I'm not gonna do that. Tmo and HTC gotta get it together. They are running a business and they MUST do what they say they gonna do. I know that TMO don't have to provide any updates, I know this but they are offiering the updates and they tell us to wait for the OTA or go to a store after the Aug 6. Well I did that, I got nothing. By the way, there are three TMO stores in my town and only one had the SDCARDS. Peace
Well they DON'T know what they are doing otherwise the custom rom community wouldn't be as big as it is if they were able to get anything right themselves. So your **** out of luck. Let us know when you want a good working phone.

That's being kinda rude. If he doesn't want to root or apply manually he doesn't have to. He's just telling us what happened. No need to be rude.
OP, if the SDcard update didn't work, you should wait and see if you can get the OTA. If the OTA isn't working for your device either, you should contact T-mobile and express that you'd like a phone with 2.3 or will properly update to 2.3, assuming that you don't want to root or manually apply the update yourself.
That's ridiculous....minus the rude part, it is true tmobile and htc would much rather see you buy one of their newer phones and renew your contact than get a good working update. Try custom roms if you can...the vision is one of the easiest to root and stable when rooted and there are hundreds of roms around, I'm sure theres some rom gingerbread flavored you'll like.

Whether you choose to root or not, it's your device and you can do what you want with it. If you want the stock T-mo experience, then they should give you what they promised you. Good luck!
While I disagree with you rooting (many of the problems here are people who shouldn't even need to root in the first place, it's not for everybody), I don't understand why you wouldn't manually update. Download the file, name it update.zip, put on your sd card root, press a few buttons, done!

I may have the answer. You said that you had received the phone as a replacement. Did it already have gingerbread on it? Remember that some of the phones people were getting as replacements had gingerbread 2.3.3 on them and if your phone was one of those you can't update from 2.3.3 to the final release which is 2.3.4. Just a thought.

I am very familar with rooting. I rooted my G1 within 5 months of having it and it stayed rooted for a year and half more until I retired it and got the G2. The reason I chose not to root my G2 was because I did not want to be contastantly flashing and removing roms and fixing issues. I got tired of baby sitting my G1. I have other things to do.

So... you tried a bunch of half-baked "roms" made by a bunch of kiddies who don't know what they're doing and found it a royal PITA. Ever heard of a "superstock" system image? Its basically the factory image with a few goodies added in, specifically ROOT. It doesn't require any "babysitting", but opens the door for some amount of enhancement, like the ability to change your hosts file (usually used to block spam), or the ability to delete useless cruft from the system image (i.e., you don't like the gmail application? Delete it.). You don't have to go with a full out special brownies system, but it is nice to at least gain control of what you own.
The store I work at finally got the SD cards to update, but the G2 update will not install.
The update works fine on the mytouch 4g, so the card is goood.
Well that sucks. Hope you get the issue resolved soon.
Looks like I figured it out. The G2 would only update if the battery was %100 charged.
Any less and it would freeze during the update.
Now that I know the update works I'll try and post the files when I get home.
Thanks atlp99!
I'd really like to get my hands on that file. I assume it is a pc10img.zip ? Seems like this is the best solution for those of us running the 2.3.3 leak...

Just used this file to update my G2 running the 2.3.3 "leaked" gingerbread rom. No problems. Just slip the file into your root directory, and hold the volume down while turning the phone on. Piece of cake. You will lose your application data, of course, but you'll be updated...

Since you're stuck with an unrooted phone, you might as well update your phone. It could be bug fixes such as mms issues, loading screens, updated radio, and so on.
Also maybe you can provide us with an update zip, once you download and before you update.

I say go with the update. Have you seen any of the videos of it, it also gives you sense 2.1. Itgives way more features than it has now. Trust me, go with the update, you wont regret it.
