If you recall, about a month ago Sprint tweeted that it was working on delivering Android 2.1 upgrade for its HTC Hero and Samsung Moment in early Q2 this year. An optimistic guess would be April, right? Funnily enough, Techie Buzz has heard that two eager customers managed to squeeze a more precise date out of Sprint over a phone call -- end of March or even March 26th. Don't go reaching for that champagne just yet, though -- a self-proclaimed Sprint employee shared a recent internal memo on XDA-Developers forum, revealing that it's "actively working on having the Android 2.1 platform available to our Hero and Moment customers over the coming weeks," and that "more information coming in April." On average, Engadget can be 12 hours late from the source when it comes to news originating from ppcgeeks, sprintusers, xda, howardforums, etc. I'm not surprised some stuff leaks through their newswatchers from time to time.

Looks like there is a deal at the Radio Shack I work at for the HTC Hero for $69.99 with a new two year contract....anybody thinking about jumping on the Hero train should now I've talked 3 people into it so far.
So, March 23rd is tomorrow btw, anybody ready for the (not) release of 2.1?
It's "scheduled" for the 26th. A couple more days until they don't release it haha.

Yeah, when 2.1 hits I'll give it a few days and the devs here will have some VERY nice FULLY FUNCTIONAL roms with NO bugs that are super fast.

You won't have to wait a few days. You will most likely have to wait a few hours. When the Eris got leaked, we had it in a couple. So, an official Sprint ROM will be ready to flash I'd say within an hour. Maybe just short of two. Max.

I don't think you get what I was saying. People here were saying that given it's a Sunday, Dell wouldn't release the phone on that day. I simply responded that the Captivate was released on a Sunday. So in other words, I was saying that a Sunday release was possible.

its august 1st. you have 24 hours to be correct.
All AT&T smartphones are released on Sundays (iphone exception). I don't think the Streak will be released today though. If it were to come out tomorrow that means we could pre-order today and that's obviously not happening, so lets just hope for a release within 2 weeks from now.
What do you guys think the holdup is? The phone had been in UK nearly 2 months now, how hard is it to swap radio band & release? I think they are waiting to put Android 2.1 on it;-)

As early as this month doesn't sound too concrete or confirmed to me. They haven't even pushed the 2.1 update with gps fix. I hope I'm wrong though.
As far as I know, this is coming from a Samsung tech employee in Finland, and is only stated for the international Galaxy S. I wouldn't expect this by the end of the month for our US Vibrant.

I called T today to find out about the GPS fix that was leaked to come out today. I was transferred to T's Android Rep who stated that the GPS Fix is to be included in 2.2 and that he did not have a time for the release. He could not even speculate on the time frame for a release but that it was in the works and coming soon. I would not expect the update till late November but before Christmas. It could be pushed back even farther if there is any chance of there being some issues with the update to 2.2 The last thing Sam and T want is bad PR it would be a loss of sales and loss of customers. I believe they are going to test the crap out of the 2.2 update which will be nice to have a great stock rom.

Stop with your speculation. If Samsung waited till November, no one in these forums would still have a Vibrant. Every other phone to come out in the last few months has been updated to froyo (Droid X will be out soon, but has seen many leaked versions). Waiting till November would be a deathwish for Samsung. By then, Gingerbread might be out then the whole process would start over again.

Seeing as they alreay have your money from when you bought the phone ($400 full price, $200 New 2 yrs contract, or a penny if you got on the amazon ****) they dont really have to care. They provided a phone that worked. that was that. they dont have to update it. if they wanted to they could be like yeaaaaa **** it. and there is nothing we could do but cry and build our own roms for it.
Tmo has us real good tho. they get you for the monthly and if you ditch them before 2 yrs is up hey guess what your shelling out another 200 bucks for nuking the contract LOL. its all about money. theres rumours left and right about when its gonna get 2.2 - if it does it does if it dont it dont. not much we can do

I went through all the Vibrant Facebook Pages and found the one mentioning Froyo and there is no way in hell that is a Samsung managed page.
a) They bag on the Captivate - Samsung wouldn't do that
b) July 14th - Said "I just played with one" - Why would Samsung say that?
c) "Their review" links to http://thetechninja.wordpress.com/ - Why would Samsung do a review of their own phone?
So, rumor squashed, there is absolutely no basis for believing anything posted to that page. The OP here should not have said its the official Vibrant page when it clearly isnt.

Im gonna say no. Its the 6th of oct. now and I believe sept.28th is when the Kies update hit and Tmobile said do not update, Information about a update will be posted in a week or Upcoming week I dont remember. Well, a week has gone and past and nothing.
I will say I bet, that by the end of this week, lets say Saturday night, there will still be no word on a update.. I for one am rooted and flashed Eugenes Twiz final so I dont need a 2.1 gps fix or what not, I want froyo. Even then though I doubt there will be any word on any update this week.

cliq XT finally got update? i going to update mine tonight if so
I got the offical answer. HERE
i hope that they give us the froyo, especially now that phones that are built in with froyo are out in the stores and of course the galaxy tab too. i don't care if it's not this month or it will be by the end of the year, i just hope that they give it to us.
You know why they don't say anything definitive? Because if something goes wrong at the last minute and the deadline slips, they'll catch even more flak.
We can't make this go any faster. Nothing you say or do is going to make Froyo come out faster. Just go out and take a walk or something. Life will not end in the interval between now and Froyo.

Yea yea knew you would post in here, as the guy on page 1 said, don't keep bumping it. Plus I could care less what you or anyone thinks is a valid topic and I'm sick of people like you thinking you can, don't read move on plain and simple,i post what I want when I want as long as I'm not flaming anyone and don't need your approval...
Again what's your guess I'm sure you voted.....?
It is clear to me that both Samsung and TMO suck at updates but we will get Froyo for sure. Its not a question of "IF" but "WHEN."

It could people die daily...lol hope that's not the case for any of us lol poor bastards die waiting for froyo..
They did give us a time frame on a update announcement..if they dont come through with even that they will catch flak..
