Eris Market issue (missing apps) - thanks got it. - Droid Eris Android Development

Thanks everyone, if this doesnt clear up over the next couple days I think I have a fix.
###########
I have gotten several reports of the app handcent missing from the eris market.
Right now it shows up on my droid, but not on any eris nor apparently the incredible.
Can you guys search for it on your phone (its named handcent sms) and report the following back
Rooted or not?
If not OTA or leak(what version)
If rooted
what rom, and did you use the eris market fix app on it.
Thanks!
jcase

There are 2 reports on their forum site of missing app from the market - don't say what phones they are and there has not been any further update from anyone on the board there...(edit - htc hero)
Mine - jamezelle's rom and son's EE is missing as well. Only thing showing up are the font packages. We have never had to do the market fixes for any of our phones.

It shows up for me (App and font packs).
Rooted, PureEris 2.0 (PureHero port). Running Eris Market Fix Donate

It's there.
Rooted
WW 3.1..... Yes I know
Haven't done any market fix unless it's built into the rom.

NON Rooted Eris = Missing Handcent (You cant see it)
Ic3 Rom Eris = Not missing. (You can see it)

Rooted and running WW 3.1 ... (CHILL cyanogen Eris doesnt work for me.)
Never ran a market fix, may be built into rom.. (hope not as i dont think he credited Jcase.. Sigh..) But it shows up in the market for me. Everything does.

Its there,
Rooted
White Widow 3.1
Didnt do the fix.

the sms app and all the font packages, as well as some keyboard show up for me.
rooted running cyanogeneris

Eris rooted running Evil Eris 3.0 w/ no market fix --> No Handcent SMS
I will update after running your market fix...
**I ran your market fix, but it still doesn't show up.
Luckily I used Titanium to backup before moving to EE3.0, because I only use Handcent.

Ditto here: except, I'm not running Eris Market Fix unless it's built into the rom.

Same here.

Running Sense-Able and Handcent SMS shows up. I have it installed, in fact, and have been notified at least twice of updates available for it.

Handcent SMS is not showing up for me as well. I just installed EE 3.0, coming from CE. Like someone else said, the Handcent Fonts and Keyboards are only showing up.

seems as if its just the aosp roms showing it and not those with sense..
Incredible - stock rom = no handcent app, but showing the font packs and keyboard

Only showing the keyboard and font packs on Senseable 3.1, however it does show up under downloads as installed.

Shows up for me, app and font packs. Running Aloysius v12 w/LWP without the market fix. Good luck jcase!

Running ivans 1.0 Ota and handcent doesn't show and not using the market fix
Will check my other roms since I'm bored at work

Husband's rooted Droid (Bugless Beast): Handcent is in market.
Stock LG Ally: no Handcent in market.

is there an SMS timestamp fix yet

With my stock rogers rom, as well as myHero ROM's, my sms messages have a timestamp dated a few hours before when they should. I've noticed that I'm not the only one with this problem. A search of the forums doesn't really show anything recent.
I noticed that one of the other ROM's (cyanogen possibly) had this issue corrected. Is there a solution to the SMS timestamp issue? Would I be able to download an updated sms messaging apk and push it to my phone to overwrite the buggy one?
I am relying on chomp sms for now, but that is a workaround, and not really a solution to the timestamp problem.
Andy
I dont have issue with stock rom.. just when i use hero rom/sense UI.. the sense ui one is 4 hours behind.. if you have the problem with stock rogers then you must be west of EST and they had a fix for that one. As far as hero roms no fix yet just work arounds such as chomp or changing your timezone setting to +0 GMT but i hear that screws up calender a bit..
HTC/Rogers posted a ROM update back in the summer:
http://www.htc.com/ca/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=270&act=sd&cat=all
It wipes your phone, but it does resolve the SMS timestamp issue. I'm currently using the HoFo ROM though, and the fix isn't incorporated with it.
if your using an aftermarket rom like MyHero etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572175
this should fix it for you
There is an app in the market called SMSfixtimes. I used to use it and it worked quite well, but it doesn't seem to work with the current MyHero rom I am using. Worked well on the stock rogers one though.
SMSFixtTimes works with HoFO rom.

Is there an update that works with the ROM from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZh2y_cpGpw ? I hate having to use the time zone hack, and SMSFixTimes isn't working for whatever reason...

Try killing the "Messages" (and any other SMS) app with TasKiller. Then configure SMSTimeFix.
Then test it.
Also are you running HoFo Sense ROM? Because that video is WAYYYYYY OLD.

Handcent Image missing on DC2.08

hi guys..
I have updated to DC 2.08 and almost everything is perfect.
my problem is with Handcent. It will not show the images of my friends. I have tried uninstall Handcent.. reload.. rebooting. I have deleted ALL text messages, but new messages do not show images.
I tested with the stock sms app, and it shows the images!!!!!
Anybody have a fix for this???
Also... I heard that this new ROM will remove the annoying .. double menu - pop up- on thing. ie. when you press menu twice to wake up the phone... the menu pops up. But it is still there!!!
Love the ROM, fast and stable. these are my only issues.. so I am hopping someone can point me to the fix.
Thanks all!
I have the same issue. Sometimes it happens randomly. I don't think it has to do with the ROM in particular. It happens nearly every time I swap or upgrade ROMS or restore all my apps via Titanium after a wipe. :/
Would like to know the answer to this.

No, I do not use friendstream. Checked it, and there is nothing in it. It says I do not appear to be logged into any sociual networks, which is correct... I currently do not subscribe to any.
yes, I do have Auto-Retrieve enabled on the stock sms app.
Bump for help

yeah.. been using Handcent since i got the phone back in Dec. and have used it with all sorts of ROMs and all of DC's ROMs too. DC2.08 is the only ROM that has caused this to happen.
Maybe it is time to try a different SMS app.???
Looks like I can not find a solution to correct handcent
Downloaded compsms
It is working just fine
Now I can see contact images

I had a problem on DC 2.05 I think it was where handcent wouldnt work but I think it had more to do with the update that handcent sent out I would have suggested uninstalling and reinstalling

make sure to always do the basic troubleshooting before reporting an issue. uninstalling and reinstalling is probably a good place to start. also consider a fresh wipe and reinstall of the ROM.
happy flashing!

yes.. you are 100% right!!
please reread my original post. Did the reinstallation of handcent x2. did not help.
I did not reinstall the ROM. That was a last resort for me, because I have everything setup as I want it.
It is odd that both stock app and compsms works fine, and shows the contact images. So, I am leaning towards Handcent latest update was the issue. it must be conflicting with something on my phone... maybe DC 2.08.
Anyways, CompSMS is working fine. I like Handcent better, but this OK. The new big comp widget is odd to me, not sure if I like it.

[Q] Removal of Stock SMS

I have searched far and wide, and have been unable to find a solution, but I am sick of the SMS/MMS included in the stock Samsung rom. The lack of Hyperlink support kills me... Any way to get the stock messaging app working or any roms which have the stock messaging app?
Try Handcent in the market. I use it over the stock MMS.

Really, you searched far and wide?
It seems to me like you probably didn't actually use the "search" function at all.
If you had, you very quickly would have found this thread, that I originally started, about stock 2.1 apps working on the vibrant, heck it was only at the bottom of page 2 of this very forum, not buried under hundreds of threads/pages.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731822
If you had honestly searched, and replied in that thread, I probably would have even typed out everything step-by-step again, for like the 50th time to help make sure you get it installed correctly, but wow, now I'm just getting annoyed.
Sigh, I totally understand why so many DEV's don't ever respond here anymore. =(

Just get hand cent or chompsms from the market. Then in the stock messaging app turn off notifications and in chomp or hand cent turn them on.
i am using handcent.. works flawless for me.. never have any lag time and/or force close.. i want to get rid of the stock sms also but i have not found anything here yet..
EDIT: I remove the mms.apk and mms.odex from the system/app folder.. now i don't see the mms icon and just using Handcent..

Then busybox cp the vanilla MMS app to /system/app
The end.
You can open hyperlinks in the sms/mms app included on the phone. Tap the message and you can then tap on the hyperlink to open it in your browser
So much fail in one thread, ha.

Google Earth: 2.1 ROMS (Syndicate/Epic Experience/Baked Snack, etc)

Hi,
I'm at the end of my patience here. I've had all 3 of these roms installed, and they all work great, except that google earth NEVER shows up in the market. I found a google_earth.apk, and Installed it from ES File Manager, and it works except when I try to clear the cache, or change any of the layers. And on the first attempt it crashes but 2nd or more, it will work if no settings are changed. I've already tried to fix permissions in clockwork but to no avail. Any suggestions?
From what I've read by searching Google, I think Google actually removed this from the market for some reason.
EDIT: Either that or they've changed it to 2.2 and above only. Haven't used 2.2 yet so I'm not sure if its there or not.
well then I guess I should be happy with what works??? lol! But if anyone wants the file, here it is. See what you can do with it.

I'm on the 2.2 Beta and its in the market for me. so if you really can't locate it in the market then i would assume you are right in that its only for froyo now. in which case you can probably install an earlier version of google earth and run it without any problems. i'lll see if i can find one in one of my old backups somewhere if you would like.
I would really appreciate that!

I doubt that would work, since you have to connect to google servers to run the program and they force you to use the most current version.
Worst case scenario you will get it when the official 2.2 is out, won't be long.
randomly now it works without any problems. strange.
Probably put it 2.2 only for the size. I still have ir installed on 2.1 and it works fine, I can pull the apk later and pay it If anyone wants it.

[Q] messaging app is malfunctioning what do I do?

I just ran the new miui rom for mytouch 4g the v.12.30 its the darkside mod. the rom works fine but for some reason the sms app won't work anymore. I click on the app and I can see I got a new text but it doesn't notify me (and I have checked the settings and they are on). But when I click on the conversation the new message doesn't show up in the conversation? but I can see it in the conversation list but not when I actually click on the person (i hope that makes sense) I even tried a third party app and the new messages don't show up in the conversation either.
What can I do? should I run the whole rom again?
It was working fine until I added the ultimate iphone theme on and then after that this problem occurred. I have deleted the theme but, still have the problem

Sounds like it was the theme that broke it, and the damage has been done. I'd reflash the ROM and see if the problem gets fixed. If the app works, then you know not to use that theme. Always make a backup before using a theme. Sometimes they work just fine, sometimes they break things.
