Well we have NFL Mobile Live working and the season is over. Now it's time for Nascar! Is there any chance that we could get Sprint Nascar Mobile Live working on our diaminds? I would love it and thanks guys!
I have the EVO that was given out at the Google I/O so it is my first time with Sprint. It is one hell of a device.
I ran some speed tests all over the SF Bay Area and the EVDO speeds are total crap. Can't really call it 3G.
I get between 250Kbps - 700Kbps where the upper end is RARELY achieved . 90% of the time i see 300Kbps...
Are these typical Sprint speeds on 3G? or is there something wrong with radio on the EVO? (I am not sure if the firmware that is currently on the device will be the shipping firmware as some things are missing like the QIK video conf and TV OUT settings/app).
When i get 4G (rarely) the speeds are great (5Mbps down).
Curious what other Sprint customers are seeing on 3g.
San Francisco... specifically in the Outer Mission district... show on average 1700kbps down and 600kbps up.
I only get that 300kbps you're talking about when it is midday and my coverage bars only show one or two. But that's rare.

They really aren't...I don't understand why people think sprint has a crappy 3G network, theirs is very comparable to verizon with speeds, but about halfish the size, maybe a bit more than that. Coverage with sprint is WAY better than at&t and t-mobile, speeds are a bit slower but not enough to cause a heart attack or anything...
check the sig... tether from my house
I get about 1.1Mbps down / 300Kbps up from my Palm Pre around Charlotte. Pretty stable as long as I have at least one bar. The Pre is one of the worst phones I have had for reception though so...
I get 700-1200kbps in good service on 3G. I can't wait to test out 4G.
Here in Boston I get between 1.6mb to 2.1mb constantly.

I dont know SF very well but in t mobiles coverage and speed defense.. on my HD2 i got 4.3Mbps.. i was with my son outside the science museum. perfect 3g coverage.. home in NYC i get upwards of 5mbps. daytime-afternoon goes down to about 3.2Mbps. i came to T mobile from sprint. left sprint when hd2 came out. i must say t mobile is smashing sprint with coverage and speeds for me. with sprint i never got over 2.7Mbps no matter where i went. (i had the touch pro)

If you look at the maps, sprint really does have a much larger 3G network than t-mobile, it all depends on where you are though to be honest. T-mobile is definitely faster though, never said it wasn't, i was specifically talking about SIZE not SPEED.
1000-1500 average in Denver and St. Louis.
Used to be higher last year, but network either slowed or more users. Not quite sure.

T-Mobile sucks in the Bay Area. Can't see more than 1Mbps, not to mention indoor 3G coverage.
1380 down, 670 up
Location is Lower Pac Heights in San Francisco
in Brick NJ, seeing a consistent 2.3-2.5mbps down, 900k up.

This is common in the San Francisco Bay Area - all the way from Pacifica where I work to San Jose. Morgan Hill/Gilroy (deep South Bay) is where Sprint needs to turn up the coverage. The best I've averaged is 600kbps down there.
Tmobile sucks in miami..struggling to get 700kb down..

In Philadelphia I get between 600 and 1200 kbps d/l during peak and offpeak respectively. While I was in Las Vegas last week I could not get better than about 500 kbps d/l so I think 3g can be pretty variable. Good to hear you are getting nice 4G speeds.
Sprint Hero using the FCC speed test app:
Downtown Nashville, TN
2.03 Mbps down
566 kbps up
337 latency
For some reason the speed test app does not work with 2.1 on my hero. Not that I care, because I will have an EVO in my hands very soon!
Speed test comparison does not mean anything
unless you state what browser and what test you used. There can be a huge difference in results from browser to browser and test site to test site. With Skyfire I get 14053 Kbps down and 1816 up. Same test with Opera 3587 down and 890 up. Same test with uZard 14586 kbps down, 12053 kbps up. Using Brighthouse speed test. Huge difference. Opera mini will not run the flash test on Brighthouse.
Sprint Users can also watch the game on sprint TV (EVO 4G FTW!)
what channel do they put it on?
most likely espn
It's a damned shame they can't mute the vuvuzelas, though .
i think you need to pay for it
4G is now in Toledo! Hopefully soon they expand to the surrounding suburbs.

Excellent glad to hear it, welcome to 4G.
I live in Clyde, about 40 mins away. I am pumped to try this out. Where exactly in Toledo have you experienced this? I know that in Columbus, 4g was only available near Polaris. I really hope 4g makes it way east to me, even if it does suck my battery more than one of those pale, glittery vampires from Twilight.
Ok, where is a cool place in the 4g coverage area I can go to hang out for a while and test the 4g on my phone? I'm SE Michigan and Toledo is the closest I have to a place with 4g, and I am starting to become obsessed with testing it out
Looking for something off 75 before the 475 interchange where I can occupy myself for a couple hours to test it out
4g in Youngstown Ohio
4g is now live in Youngstown Ohio. Anybody else notice?
Its live in downtown I believe. Check clearwire's map tho to be sure. Watch a Walleyes game or go to the restaurants that aren't closed yet on the docks.

Im originally from toledo and coverage actually looks spotty downtown by the water. If I were you id start at westfield shopping town off 475/talmadge even if the map doesn't show it there, and proceed with caution as you travel toward downtown on monroe, maybe try again near westgate mall ( best buy monroe/secor or sears or home depot by central/secor) but lock your doors if you end up near monroe and detroit

Lol, well if you ever come visit us in detroit, lock your doors.... anywhere actually! lol
Thanks though
I currently live in West Toledo (Monroe/Douglas area) and I'm not able to get a 4G connection. I work downtown, so I will try when I go into the office tomorrow.

Actually just south of homewood and hillcrest is willys park which might be best for you, right off I-75 and wide open area in the center of coverage, and a safe area compared to a lot of the coverage area.
Or, maybe the toledo hospital in case you get shot (kidding).

If I remember correctly its all based around the new arenas which would be smart.
Edit: Looking at the map right now, it seems that spans from Dorr Street to as far north as Eleanor but coverage is sparse. It does seem to be around the new arenas though Right around Michigan Street and Erie Street. Most of Bancroft and Monroe is covered downtown. As is Detroit. Maybe I'll have to flash over to CM 6.2.1 Alpha and test it out when I go to another Walleye game.
Edit 2: Looks like only the Huntington Center is covered. Fifth Third is just out of range. At least thats what the map says.

I was able to pick up the signal on my commute to work going 475 east to 75 south. I connected to Sprint's 4G somewhere between the Detroit Ave exit and the Collingwood exit, with 1 or 2 bars as I headed downtown. Once downtown on Washington Ave, my signal fluctuated between 0 and 1 bar, and was basically lost once I got to Summit St.

I can confirm 4g in Toledo. I work near Dura and N. Detroit Ave and got 4g Connection.
Where are you guys getting the map from? Sprints site?
I live near Central/Douglas, and no 4g here yet. I'm surprised its working downtown, as Toledo wasn't supposed to get it til late this year. Maybe they are just testing it.

Check the clear.com coverage map since that is the same as sprint wimax. You might have to zoom in to the right level and wait for the green transparent overlay to load.

I cannot believe that Sprint puts 4G service in a run down town like Toledo and Phoenix still hasn't had 4G turned on yet.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I was also wondering what map you were looking at, thanks for that. I went ahead and downloaded their "Got Clear?" App from the market.
There's a wider range than I anticipated. Of course my house is just out of range, but what I experienced this morning on my way into the office seems to correspond with the map coverage.

Can ESPN give some kind of an alert w/o subscription? As in RSS or Twitter or Facebook?

You mean why would ESPN do this? Easy. Because they're a ****ty company. Welcome to the party, if you're not just now figuring that out.

Here's a list of some of the best sports apps
http://lifehacker.com/#!5782923/the-best-sports-apps-for-android
I use scorecenter. It's got all the scores and a crawl on the bottom for news, I've never used their mobile alerts.
From their site:
"Why wait to catch the score? Sign up for *FREE ESPN Alerts and get the latest scores, breaking news, and ESPN Fantasy updates sent to your phone. Sign up is easy, you choose the Alerts you want to receive. It's *FREE, and it works on any mobile device that can receive text messages." I guess they should update that to say "except Sprint". I'm sure it's a money thing, I'm sure ESPN is probably pissed at Sprint or wants a bunch of money from them.
I liked receiving texts alerts without opening an app...
I'm testing buzzbox right now, going to see how that works.

its now a story: http://www.androidcentral.com/espn-text-alerts-shut-out-sprint-network#comment-126800
Update: And just like that, we get a tip about what's really going on. Here 'tis:
It's not a "money thing" in the traditional sense. They didn't give us a real clear picture of what's going on, but ESPN offers these messages free of charge to ESPN.com members, and Sprint is going to start charging their customers for each individual text message, regardless of having an unlimited messaging package. ESPN really isn't going to put up with it being "free," yet not free.
This stinks. ESPN alerts were nice because they gave you the scoring plays. If I choose alerts for the Yankees and A-Rod hits a 2 run homer, it will show he hit a 2 run homer and R.Cano scores, the same with football alerts.
I have already paid my membership but will not be re-subscribing to espn insider or doing any espn fantasy leagues.
There are other alerts out there, I will just have to search for something else. It stinks, these are FREE apps (I pay for espn's extra services and in my mind pay sprint for extra premium $10 fee).
It seems like things are continuing to get worse at Sprint - I lost premier status upgrade, I lost espn alerts, who knows what will happen with the network (if they will go LTE or Wimax). Every time I try to use my mlb at ball app to listen to the game, the game keeps cutting out every 10-15 seconds and network speeds seem to be getting slower and slower.

According to this article, Sprint is charging the content providers, i.e. ESPN, Yahoo, etc. more per message sent. They aren't doing anything to the individual users.
