Hi..
A friend of mine owns a htc hero and he wanted to change the gmail account on his phone to a new gmail account he had created.
So he went to applications and did a clear data in the "google apps" and "gmail" applications..
After this, the old account was gone..
fine...
but now when we try to get him to sign in with the new account,
its just not working.
It tell us there is not a good connections to make the sync.
what makes it weird is that there is nothing wrong with the connection.
I can update apps, go to the browser and surf the web.
Also tried it using Wifi..
so the internet connection is just fine
but every time i enter an gmail account, it fails. (tried it via gmail, via market and google accounts)
i also dont see the data connection have much activity when its supposed to sync the account.
so at the moment, there is no gmail account connected to the phone...
anyone have any suggestions?
We want to keep the hard reset as a last resort..
rather avoid doing that if possible.
Would appreciate any help.
Thnx
same
i have the same issues here...

Hi all
Sorry if this is not an appropriate place to ask, but please let me know of somewhere more suitable if not.
I've got two google accounts bound to my N1. One is a google apps premier account (which I use for email sync) and a normal googlemail account (which I use for calendar and contacts sync).
I use Gtalk on my desktop PC's for the first account (premier apps) and not on the second one, however when I fire up Gtalk on my N1 it is using the second account and not the one I want! I have not found an option to change this behaviour.
Does anyone know how to change which account Gtalk uses on the N1?
Thanks
Android will use the account you entered first. I entered my google apps account first then the gmail account and if I now try to remove the gmail account it says I can't. This is because android has bound the gmail account to the services not supported on google apps accounts.

Hm. I added my gmail account first and then the gapps one. I too found that if I try and remove an account it wants me to factory reset my phone and lose all data/config! This is pretty crappy.
I'm hoping someone can come up with a hack or something to change this behaviour regarding gtalk as I certainly don't want to reset my phone simply to get gtalk working.
I think a reset is the only way for now :-/
This is really poor. Google have slipped up somewhat with annoyances like this
hmm... i've the same problem .. then all we can do is wait
My current workaround is to use the eBuddy application, which is working just fine.
Probably off topic, but has anyone had complaints from their regular buddies about the phone causing frequent disconnects/reconnects to their chat client? One of mine got so annoyed by the alerts that he has cut me off... (using pidgin with my primary gmail account)
(I'm guessing that it happens when I'm connected via wi-fi and voice calls come in... ? ) Does anyone have any settings suggestions for either 1) staying connected or 2) having it just wake up when needed?
I think you can go into Manage Applications in Settings, hit menu and then filter, then select All. Clear the data for Gapps and Gmail, and then reboot. If you do it right, it should ask you to login again like it did when you first turned your phone on. Login with whichever account you want to use Gtalk with.
The problem starts today 13 June, my Gmail just won't push, I already tried to "Clear data" on Gmail storage and Gmail application from the "Manage applications" option. But I can't sign in and get an error message "Cannot establish connection bla bla bla".
I even tried to reflash my ROM three times already, did the factory reset. no use. Finally I restored the nandroid back up that I have, it's signed in but Gmail still won't push. Internet 2G 3G Wifi all Ok, but Gmail won't push...
Does Gmail server down??
Any suggestions?!
Thanks! =)
Hey, I can sign in and Gmail works fine when I'm connected to VPN...
I do live in China, so I think it's the local server of Gmail... Isn't it?
my gmail pushes fine... would suggest you make sure under settings/accounts that your gmail is set to sync your mail?? might try signing out and signing in again on phone
Oh ok, thanks for your reply, as I expected, the China server of Gmail has a problem and moved the address of host. If anyone of you experiencing the same problem, email me, I'll help you solve it =)

when i add contacts to my phonebook - how can i update them to my GMAIL account??
i tried doing UPDATE from the phone and nothing added to my GMAIL account
why is that so??
another thing -
how can i delete my GMAIL account from my phone? (i mean for my own settings like gmail address and password - lets say i want to sell my phone to other one.. without doing formats )
Don't know for the removing account, for the contact issue: Use google sync on your phone.
To remove your gmail account info, just do a "factory data reset" I believe it is in settings-sd card settings.
As for the gmail update, it should automatically do it, you need background data on and account sync, and obviously a connection to the network, either 3g or wifi
Hope that helps

i really tried do it as background also and WIFI was working on
it shows like it did made the update bit when i go to my gmail i don;t see any conatct added
Hi - I had this problem on my wife's HTC Legend - turns out that I'd inadvertantly set up the contacts as phone contacts rather than gmail contacts, so it wasn't syncing them.. I had to export them all and then reimport then as google contacts.. then it worked.
ok where can i set this settings ?
I got a nexus one just updated it to 2.2 and added contacts exactly how they are on facebook. i tryed to relogging in out and out several times and i noticed some people would get a pic then some would lose a pic???? werid my auto sync is on and i been re syncing 100 times..... and no luck facebook setting is sync contacts in contact list only??? what could be the problem?????? i tryed all this?
its like when i sign out then sign in it updates most of them only when i do that but new contacts after sign in wont update? SO ITS THE AUTO SYNC THAT ISNT SYNCING?
sometimes I got weird problem when syncing gmail too,
solved by deleting account and re-login to account
or clear data for gmail application.
so try first to delete facebook account and re-log into it
if doesn't solve, then delete the account, clear data for facebook application then re-login
good luck
yea when u DELETE the account nad relogin it will sync but thne when u add one right after it wont sync. Basically the only way to sync is add all the contacts and sign out sign back in there isnt auto sync that works
I just recently noticed that I can't send e-mails with my gmail account. I am using Fresh Evo and normally send e-mail from my computer, but I just noticed that I cant send from my phone. Any ideas of what could be wrong?
A little bit of info would be useful (ie, what version of Gmail) and here's a few steps to troubleshoot:
1) Wipe Gmail app's data and try again.
2) Remove and re-add your Google account, and try again.
3) Try another Google account and see if it works.
4) Nandroid backup, wipe phone, reflash ROM, see if it works now.
EDIT: One last thing to try: Make sure you can sign in to Talk. If Talk's busted, then Gmail's busted.
I've never been able to send gmail while on wifi. Are you on wifi?
Cox blocks gmail, Sprint blocks Cox. Neat reciprocity.
IIRC Gbhill @ androidcentral has a work around.
Gmail has been doing this to me a lot lately. They get stuck in the outbound box. If I reboot they send and it works for a while. Clearing data in gmail app works sometimes.

Similar problem here, outgoing mail was stuck in the outgoing mail box forever. I have a coule of gmail accounts but this was occurring on the primary gmail account. I noticed that account was always having trouble syncing contacts as well, so I removed the main account and re added it. So far that seems to have solved the outgoing and sync issues.
I had to wipe my phone when this happened to me.
