yup apps2sd works great
can you explain on how it works and how you install it?
its on the market appstosd, you can use that to format your card or you can do it manually either using the ported command or any gui.
then the app takes it from there

If you install a recovery image then that can do it for you as well. As for the apps2sd apk on the market. I had tried that but it didnt work. And when I try to follow the directions from the Dream forum that I used to follow I need Busybox. I try to install that and it doesnt work. How did you get apps2sd working?
I made a script for this a long time ago for the g1 ill try to find it

That would be awesome but does it need Busybox? That's the problem I am having. I can follow the old instructions to the t but without busybox I cant seem to do any of them.
I can't get it to work via the appstosd aol on the market. Nore can partition my 8th class 4 as card using this app. Should I just use gparted the try it. What size should the ex2 partition be?
Anyway to get this working. Ive rooted my phone and the app from the market is not working at all. Any ideas?

Same here, no dice. Blah.
im trying to get it to work now ive been messing with it if i get it ill make a guide
I installed the MDC rom, and then installed ApptoSD, worked perfectly. I know that I didnt have to use the app with the new rom, but this way I didnt have to reinstall all my apps...
Im not looking to flash any roms right now. I'm good with the stock one. If we can get the ext2 partition to mount it should work maybe?
any updates on this?
I was wondering that myself. I would like to use appstosd but don't want to install the MoDoCo stuff.
Any news on this? I also would like to use apptosd but don't want to use a custom rom.
So, as Froyo is slowly becoming the standard around here, I thought I would post a few workarounds for some of the problems that people are having with Froyo and the wide selections of Froyo ROMS to choose from. I put this list together, as these problems I see coming up in many of the Froyo ROM threads.
So, I ll start with a few of the most common ones, and will add to this list later.
Issue -My apps are appearing twice in the ADW apps launcher after moving them to the SD card! (Froyo apps2sd)
Workaround-It seems almost everytime I reboot the phone that Im getting the apps appearing twice. If you uninstall ADW, and then reinstall it, then it stops. So what I ve done for the time being is to install ADW new, get all the widgets and apps you want on the home screen, and then go into the restore and backup settings in ADW launcher. Make a backup of your ADW settings and of your homescreens and save those to your sd card (it does this automatically). Then, the next time you need to reboot your phone and you see double apps coming up, just go into ADW settings and "Restore" your settings for the launcher and homescreens. Then the double apps go away, your settings are retained, and your apps and widgets are back on your homescreen.
If your using the same apps and widgets all the time, its probably a good idea to do a Nandroid after you ve done this, and to save the 2 ADW save files stored on your sd card just in case you ever want to quickly restore your settings again.
Issue- Froyo apps2sd is rubbish! I only have 40mb left on internal storage! I want the old apps2sd back!!
Workaround- First off, I have to admit that at first I didn’t like the new Froyo apps2sd. But actually now, I like it more, due to the fact that you don’t need an EXT or swap (meaning MORE SPEED), AND coupled with the fact theres a very easy way to get FOUR TIMES MORE STORAGE than the 40mb (estimate for 115 apps) that you have left. The solution? Easy..all you have to do is go into your ROMS settings, and “move dalvik to cache”. To put it simply, I have 117 apps installed on my phone. After I moved them all to the sd card, I had 40mb left. I then went into the spare parts on Emonthers ROM, and enabled “dalvik on cache”. I then rebooted, and VOILA…137mb free internal space.
I cant confirm that all ROMS have this option, but if your ROM does have it, it’s the way to go. From what I ve read (please correct me if im wrong), this space is allocated mostly for OTA updates. As most of us here have root, why not use that space to free up some internal memory! After doing this, my phone is running VERY fast and smooth.
Issue- My phone keeps rebooting at the load screen! HELP!!
Workaround -This commonly occurs if you didn’t wipe properly when coming from another ROM. If this is happening to you, you ll need to:
Pull your battery to get the loops to stop
Reboot into recovery
Do a full wipe, then if you have an ext partition wipe that. Also wipe cache and dalvik settings. This is very important. Then flash your ROM. Your Bootloops should then stop. And remember, if your partioning your card, remember to REPAIR EXT PARTITIONS. This is VERY important and will save you lots of grief.
Issue- When I record video my phone reboots! HELP!
Workaround- This means you haven’t installed the Froyo radio. You ll need to be sure you have either flashed the zip version of the Froyo radio or installed the image (Cyan says installing the image is safer. Im sure hes probably right, but I can confirm I have flashed the zip version of the radio and it works fine).
Issue-I don’t know which apps to install to the sd card and which I should leave on the phone! AAARRGGHH!
Workaround- From what I have read, what you ll want to leave on the phone are:
Widgets, apps that have widgets that you use, keyboards, and system apps. I also keep my sms app on the phone, although Im sure it will work fine on the SD card.
Issue- I just flashed a new ROM, and now the app launcher is all slow! Whats up with that??
Workaround- This is most likely because your apps are being automatically redownloaded and installed. This is a feature of Android that was added to Eclaire that allows Google (with your permission) to backup your settings (apps, wifi key, ect). Give the phone a minute and you ll see in your app launcher that your apps are being added automatically! When its done, you ll get a notification that says “ “X” number of apps reinstalled. Saves you time and work, and now your launcher will stop lagging.
Issue- There are so many Froyo ROMS! Which one is the best one!??!
Workaround- This is like asking if basketball is cooler than football. In short: it’s a matter of opinion. I can however share my findings so far.
Cyan6- We all know the quality of Cyan and TeamDouches work. When there ROMS go stable, they..well…they JUST WORK GREAT. Cyans ROMS are always very detailed and COMPLETE (trackball lights, wallpapers, advanced options) Right now, for me the ROM is still very buggy, so I would give it the number 3 spot.
RoDrIgUeZsTyLe- If you like overclocking and speed, this ROM is a winner! His ROMS have a lot of kernel options and overclocking enhancements, and are fairly stable. Very recommended.
Enomther- At this very moment, this ROM takes the cake and is easily my number 1 pick. Stable, fast, TONS of enhanced features and extra settings, and I can honestly say I haven’t had one FC yet. I can understand why hes one of the top dogs here. His newest ROM has been an AWESOME Froyo experience for me, and I ll be sticking with him until Cyan goes stable.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER FROYO ROMS. THESE ARE JUST THE ONES THAT I HAD THE BEST EXPERIENCES WITH. YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE MAY VARY!! THE DEVS HERE ALL DO GREAT WORK, AND THIS IS BY NO MEANS SAYING THAT ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER!
Anyway, that’s all I have for now. I hope this helps out, and I ll be adding to this thread as more common problems come to me. I hope it helps someone out, and I really hope it saves our awesome devs some time from answering questions. After all, it takes time creating all the awesomeness that they bring!

EDIT- have a look on your SD card.is there a folder called " android secure"?
Just checked and yeah there is, it's hidden though (.android_secure)
Is this what's giving me trouble?

Quite possibly yes. Try deleting that folder, rebooting, and then try to install. Make sure the folder doesnt reappear after reboot. If it does, try just deleting it and then downloading and installing an app.
Also, be sure to let me know if it works, so that I can add it to the thread.
thank you for the information. I would suggest that you try Leo Froyo. Very stable and full of options.

Are u using the old apps2sd or the new? I read in another thread that deleting this folder was allowing some to download apps after deleting it. I personally haven't had his problem, but ill search around to see if I can find a workaround.
Download this file here and make sure it doesn't have .txt as file ext, but .xml instead. Rename if necessary.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6602402&postcount=8
Then follow this instruction.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7046487&postcount=29
If it doesn't work, you most likely don't have the shared_prefs folder. So just create one.
Hope it helps. Good luck.

LOL. Yes, I know what the new Froyo apps to sd is I asked because in many of the Froyo ROMS you have the possibility to choose between the new implemented from Google apps2sd or the old style apps2sd that we seen in builds prior to Froyo.
Have you given rjhay22's suggestion a try? Please let me know if it fixes so that I can get it added to the original post.

Thanks Im just hoping we can save the devs some time. I ll keep adding to it the more and more we find solutions.
Never seen any of these problems... Apps2SD is okay, just more apps need to support it.. I have 4-5 5M+ apps which don't, and it'd help a lot if they did. I'm sitting around 30M free after clearing browser cache with a ton of apps installed on my stock OTA.

well if you have the mod install location app you can force the option to allow apps to be moved to SD
@Dai323
haha sorry i was using froyo apps to sd. I dont think it makes any difference whether that folder is there or not unless something is entirely screwed up with a rom flash.
ive read that the solution rjahays solution will work for enomthers for sure as well as modacos rom
I run CM7 for the most part on my phone and have purchased several apps from withing CM7.
Well i got the urge to run Stock rom/Stock based rom and there are 2 apps that i purchased that no longer show up in the stock rom. I go to my apps in market and they dont show up.
I do a clean flash of CM7 and set up my google account and they are there...
why dont all apps show up = between roms?

Some applications are not compliant with Gingerbread and do not so up.
for what it is worth....
I had a similar incident with Widgets. I ran the 2.3.3 leaked rom for a few day and was amazed at how many applications had widgets that we not showing up on CM7. And it just comes down to the Developer hasn't reconfigured their app to work with EXT4 ROMs.
Its actually the other way around, apps i can find and use within GB do not show up within Froyo

use Titanium backup then...
or pull the .apk for remote storage.
I shall ty for the advice
Problem with that is if they update my paid apps they do not show up in the market, even with free apps. if i pull apk from my GB rom and load on Froyo.

IF you go to to the Android Market on the web do they show up in the "my downloads" section?
Yes. and if im on a stock froyo rom, or the leaked GB stock rom, i cannot see them on market. or send them to my phone from the market website
Titanium Backup or MyBackup Pro (I like it because it's easier) should help you be able to restore apps regardless of whether or not they show up in the market. Sometimes apps disappear on me, too, and when I search for them in the Market there they are! Weird...
I love my Continuum.
But... it is so much "noisier" than all other Android phones that I tried!
By "noisier", I mean constant bombardment of the system log by all the applications that run there and, most annoyingly, random interruption by unsolicited notifications, messages, RSS, etc.
This gets in the way of certain applications that I run in the foreground, so I tried an application called "Android Assistant" to help kill unneeded applications/services on boot. It doesn't help, as the system seems not to allow killing certain processes.
Is there a Continuum ROM that's cleaner than the latest ec07?
Is there a CyanogenMod ROM for the Continuum?
Frankly, I prefer keeping the existing ROM and only install a Market application that kills on boot all the the applications that I don't need (e.g. Market, Gmail, Corporate Email, etc.), but is there such an application that really works?
Thanks!
Titaniumbackup or a root tool to uninstall bloat / apps u don't use. That's short of setting up a kitchen and cooking ur own rom.
PS I'd try tib first cause I remember the trouble u had with flashing the rom to begin with

My ROM is less bloated, but it still has like Gmail for example
I enjoy a very minimulistic device with very little clutter and apps.. I am currently working on a rom based on nuckin's, with a few tweeks, apks removed and some added to my liking. i am currently flashing the first test. Hopefully with a day or two, or even possibly tonight if it doesn't get to late i will post it up in a beta form.

Good memory!
I actually took a look at TIB and the task of deciding which application or service to uninstall looks daunting.
This is especially scary when I am prompted by the following warning when I try to uninstall via TIB:
Some system packages are needed for your phone to work properly. If you un-install the wrong package, it's your fault and you may need to reinstall your ROM !

How do I know up front which system packages I can uninstall? For example, if I uninstall Gmail, will the Market stop working?
For example, I uninstalled a few applications that I don't need and now I am getting periodic "Force close" messages for the following:
hiddenmenu - com.android.hiddenmenu
Messaging - com.android.mms
What is "hiddenmenu"?
I am attaching a text file listing all currently installed APKs. If you could provide tips which ones must absolutely remain on the phone, that would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

well i think we could do something with CM as soon as/if we ever get an open source kernel newer than 2.1update.
Any apps out there that keep a database of your installed apps and allows you to auto-reinstall if you say flashed a new ROM?
I figured it must exist since it doesn't seem like a difficult concept, I could be wrong.
I use appbrain.com to reinstall apps from the market.
I use appsaver to save apks to sd card and file expert to reinstall multiple apks from sd card.

Appbrain is okay, but there is nothing automatic about it. Is there anything out there that will install and you won't have to accept permissions for each application?
rooted or non root solution
if you are looking for a root solution, you can always use rom toolbox or titanium backup. If you plan to buy one to get the completely auto data + app backup restore, i suggest rom toolbox only because not only does it manage apps, but it has many other features.
if you are looking for a nonrooted solution, you can get an app on the market to pull you apks and then manually install them as previously stated by someone else.
I remember one rom I installed over a year ago it had auto setup or something enabled where it download every single app I had ever installed from the market. No pratically really.
Its called cyanogenmod
