Has anyone else noticed the background blurring/dithering that HTC Sense seems to be doing? I didn't really notice this using the stock wallpapers, but when i loaded a custom somewhat detailed wallpaper I noticed this, and now notice it using the stock wallpapers as well.
If you have the HD2 at the lock screen the wallpaper looks nice and sharp. As soon as you unlock the device and are sitting at the Sense home screen, you will notice that the wallpaper looks slightly blurred. Looking closely it actually looks like some kind of dithering is going on. You can see the dithering clearer using some of the stock wallpapers with large sections of solid color.
I have attached 2 pics taken with my digicam showing the difference with the wallpaper I 1st noticed this problem with.
Edit:
A little more info. this is with the stock shipping ROM on the TMO HD2, I have not upgraded it because of some of the usability issues i've read about. I would be interested if the newer ROM does or does not do this as well. I've also included the particular wallpaper
i notice the same exact thing on my hd2 with the latest/updated 2.13 rom.

That's exactly the issue that HDWalls was built to work around. Find an HDWall cab that will work with your sense/WM version, (I'll make you one if you need), and you'll see the difference once you install it.

I had some problems that seemed to be with earlier versions of Co0kies home tab (1.6?) and HDwalls that made me have to hard reset as well. HDwalls and 1.71 seem to play perfectly well together.

Well the settings that HDW uses are specific to the exact WM and Sense versions you're running, so using a cab for the wrong versions can cause all kinds of weirdness.
I'll be happy to give you a hand getting used to making your own cabs with the app if you want....do you have an image you'd like to start with?
(and no, there's no real tutorial on it yet, other than the basics that are covered in the app's original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503511.)
Also some versions of sense require that you run the HQ patch in addition to the wallpaper cab itself, just fyi

Hehe, yeah, dutch it is.
The problem is that the normal download uses a compression method to decrease the file size up to 90% (see cab size difference), which makes manila faster. Thing is, manila needs to be patched for it to work. Look up Chainfire's Compression for more information.

It should work with a branded ROM as well, unless completely new manila files have been added (which I think is unlikely).
I've just tried it on my Vodafone branded Pro2, and all works well except when you stop on any tab, the background goes black so you can't see anything much.
The transitions between tabs is so great - I hope this can be made to work fully. Great work, thanks!

Do I understand correctly that the background (as in the screenshots) only shows while scrolling, but not while actually inside a tab?
I'll relay this information to Rotastrain (the creator of the panoramic background mode9 file) so it can be looked into.

I have got a HTC one... so can't tell how it works on the branded one. I had to use the compability cab anyway.
on my Voda branded one the compatibility cab works fine apart from some of the fonts stay black. The calendar tab is particularly bad and a white font & lines would have been better.
Great theme tho!

Yeah, that's what I've been experiencing. It seems it's the same issue Stunno is having, as with a light background (which I believe it's supposed to be) the black fonts would be suitable.
Will be fantastic to have this to replace the Vodafone theme once it's fully functional, thanks again!
I should clarify my post as it was done in a rush this morning.
The theme is FULLY functional. The background scrolls beautifully from tab to tab (OK there is a slight glitch in that there is a thin black line down the settings tab about 3/4 of the way across and a light one half way across the calendar tab)
My problem is the font colour in some of the tabs. Which is more of a layout problem than a theme problem. In particular
The People tab perfect apart from the phone number is in black over a dark part og the background - but no biggy because who needs this anyway I've only included for completeness
The Calendar tab has black text and lines on a predominantly dark background
The Music tab ditto
the Internet tab ditto
Having said all of that, and I hope it didn't come across as whinging because it wasn't meant to, I am keeping it on as it is a HUGE improvement on the VF one!

Yes, CFC compressed files work better. The compatibility pack is not compressed, like TF3D is normally. So, for a performance increase, I recommend patching your manila, using CFC GUI 0.55.

Alright. I'm willing to improve based on feedback. I do however, need screenshots for clarification. The reason is that - although you did a very good attempt at clarifying - I can still interpret your problems in differing ways.
So, please post some screenshots and I'll look into it.
The vertical lines in the background are a TF3D problem, we can't get rid of it - yet. (TF3D doesn't like sticking pictures to eachother(
I've attached screenshots of what I'm experiencing.
Screenshot 1: What I have when TF3D first loads - perfect!
Screenshot 2: Once I touch the screen however, the background goes black
Screenshot 3: When choosing between tabs, the background goes to the photo again
Screenshot 4: Then when I stop on a tab, the background goes black again - very nice!
Thanks so much - this will be so good compared to the default Vodafone theme!

I understand that it might seem intimidating if you're new to WM and HTC. I can also understand that you'd love to have all the best fixes and stuff. Do take into account though, that it takes some time and a lot of reading to really get a grasp of how everything works and is integrated.
Patching manila, however, is - luckily for you - made simple by Chainfire. Read his thread here.
Good luck!

Just one tiny remark; I noticed the stock icon is not embossed like the rest of the icons when selecting stock from TF3D, see pic. No biggy but I thought I'd mention it...
Can anyone advise me here. Im getting this error whenever i try to use the HDWallS program to apply a wallpaper...
"An error occured during installation: -2147024891"
But if I install the wallpaper cab directly then it works fine. Someone else in the actual HDWall Wallpaper archive thread (yeh i did search! ) said that its to do with the profile you select in the TouchFLO configuration of HDWall. But if the cab works directly is that right?
Id love to use this app as the wallpapers i have put on look sweet as. Not sure if any of these are conflicting it but i have installed...
- Co0kie HQWallpaperPatch (HQWallpaperPatch_v1.15_forManila2.1.cab) - because its linked in the HDWallS app as a needed patch.
- Tore Lervik Stock Homescreen AllBg HD (Stock Homescreen AllBg HD - Tore edition.cab) - because i wanted to show more calendar appointments on my home screen.
- Spikes MicNeo Taskbar Varient 3 v2 (Spike's__MicNeo_TaskBar_Varient_3_v2.cab) - because the standard taskbar is crap!
- MobileMatt Crystal Clock White (MobileMatt_CrystalClockWhite.cab) - To give it a see through effect.
- At0mAng Custom Slider Icons (At0mAng Custom Slider Icons.cab) - to replace the bottom icon set.
Got other stuff on of course but nothing else touches the looks or homescreen.
Any help really appreciated! Please help!

My apps were mentioned in my post. I only put down the ones which i thought were related. So things like task manager apps or sensor things i didnt think were important.
Its interesting though that you have only had it a couple days and have the issue. Are you with T-Mobile like me?
No my device is completely ubranded.
I installed also HQWallpaperPatch_v1.15_forManila2.1.cab
but that's the only same app i got like you.
same probleme for me :'(
I fixed it on mine (was a totally clean install before I installed HDWall) by using the app unlock cab. I've attached it for your convenience.
Hope that helps.

Hey guys, I've been having a very annoying issue since updating to the latest energyrom April 1st 25344 build that I never had previously. After updating (I was previously using the March 26th build w/ no issues) I have noticed a sharp downgrade in resolution and graphics (wallpaper, text) on my home screen, including slider graphics and text.
The graphics and resolution are perfect on the lock screen and start menu, just the resolution on the home screen is the issue. When I switch the theme to windows default titanium, the graphics and resolution on the home screen becomes crisp and clear....switch back to htc sense and no matter what wallpaper I use, etc., the graphics and text become blurry/poor.
Please refer to the links to example pictures below:
Perfect resolution/graphics on lock screen - crisp and clear
http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j73/Darkjin/?action=view¤t=ScreenShot2.jpg
Same background using home screen using Titanium - crisp and clear
http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j73/Darkjin/?action=view¤t=ScreenShot3.jpg
Same background using HTC sense w/ nrgrom Apr 1 - pixelated poor resolution
http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j73/Darkjin/?action=view¤t=ScreenShot1.jpg
I have tried everything I can think of to try to correct this and get back my crisp and clear home screen when using htc sense theme. I have even re-flashed to different energyrom builds, completely different custom roms, and even flashed back to the stock rom found on these forums (2.10.0). The home screen graphics downgrade stays even when I flash to those various roms! Before I updated to the newest energyroms, everything was crystal clear. This all happened right after I updated to the new April 1st build. I've posted numerous times on the energyrom thread, but no one seems to know what the issue is.
A few other notes: Before I flash I have ran task 29 format, and after flashing the custom rom, I've made sure no apps, fonts, etc were installed. Nothing I do seems to fix this issue. I'm using a T-Mo US htc hd2 w/ hspl2.
Please, if anyone is experiencing similar issues or know of any fixes any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to have to keep using titanium as my main theme just so I can have some crisp resolution and graphics on the home screen =(
I don't mean to address something off-topic here, but I'm interested in finding the theme, ROM, or .CAB file you used to redesign the standardized lock screen.
Care to enlighten me? Thanks.
Otherwise, I don't have any input for your problem... trust me, if I knew... I'd be more than willing to offer assistance.

I don't mind letting you know what I did. First off, I use a custom energyrom. It's one of, if not the most popular custom rom for the htc hd2 (all versions meaning USA and international). The lock screen you see is built into the newer versions of the energy custom roms...meaning you don't need a .cab, etc to separately install it if you choose to use this rom. You can download energyrom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
You don't need to search for a tmo-US version...all of his roms work on US hd 2's...he just left the tmobile stock folder (cabs) out (you can dl those cabs separately, there is a specific thread with the stock tmo us cabs in the forums).
If you want to stay stock or are using a different custom rom that doesn't have the lock screen feature, you can find the necessary .cab file to install this feature here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=637671
Scroll down the page and you should see the dl link for it amongst the tweaks. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip buddy but I've always had chainfire's drivers when using energyrom. Are you sure that is the issue? That was one of the programs that I auto-installed using the built in xda uc feature in energyrom after flashing. Even without it, the home screen graphics have always been crisp and clear so I doubt it has anything to do with that.
When I re-flashed back to the stock rom, I still had the low-res home screen...and chainfire's drivers are not needed for the stock rom...it's more tailored to help when playing gl games and watching videos (for stuttering, etc).
Thanks for trying to help...I really have searched all day for any answers...trust me..anyone else have any other ideas? Currently I have used task 29 format, re-flashed to stock rom, and have absolutely nothing installed on the device...but the low res home screen graphics have remained.
sigh..
Seeing how you look like the only person in the world with this issue , I wanted to chime in saying that I have the same problem. I am using a Telstra HD2 and have been on Energyrom for a long time. I tried the same steps you did... I even flashed the stock Telstra ROM from storage card- which theoretically should blow everything away but I still saw the same issue. Since this was the old Telstra ROM, I was shocked. Then, I reflashed HSPL, and new roms, but to no avail. Hope someone at least recognizes the issue and comes up with a solution.
i am on the STOCK Tmo US rom and i have had pixelated fonts from the very start. it bothered me the first day and then i forgot about it until i saw this thread. now it bugs me again
kind of sucks, pixelated fonts on this gorgeous screen.

Yea...I hear ya. I think I might know what the issue is...but I'm not positive yet. I believe nrg did some compression with the graphics on the April 1st rom, to increase performance. While I was using the March 26th build, I had been using hd wall because I wanted to use a nice high-res background that was fully transparent at the very top and bottom portions of the screen. Since I didn't want to go though the trouble of making my own hd wall screens...I had been using pre-made hd wallpaper (.cabs) from here ->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601369
I installed the HQwallpaperpatch, than downloaded the .cab file of the wallpaper I liked along with the original wallpaper. I made sure to set the original picture as my background, than installed the .cab to get the transparent top and bottom portions of my homescreen.
I believe due to the compression that was done in nrg's Apr 1st builds, the hd wallpaper patch/wallpapers were no longer working like they were in the previous builds. So if you would like you could try to revert to a previous build, download hdwallpatch and try one of the .cabs from that link..it may work. When I get the time I will try it myself and post if it worked or not.
I came to this conclusion after I saw my friend's htc hd2 on stock rom. I was very surprised to see that his home screen was a bit pixelated....so I thought to myself...maybe it was because I was using the hdwallpatch and hdwallpaper that I had a crisp high-res home screen. Maybe the home screen was always a bit pixelated and I had just not noticed...
Hope that made sense!
If you're anything like me, you're able to appreciate precision...
Such as alignment, things being linear... or perhaps something just fitting on-screen, rather than causing obscure transparent affects on what is (by default) an otherwise beautifully designed, perfectly matched lock screen.
Now, after having said all of that... I'm sure most of you are wondering what I was just rambling about. Well, if you haven't discovered this already... then I suppose I'll elaborate. Once you have applied a lock screen wallpaper, it is then automatically rendered to fit the screen resolution of, "480x800"... which in turn causes your wallpaper quality to typically be compromised if the resolution isn't already EXACTLY that!
Also, you'll noticed that your "curtains" become faded and transparent. Which again, for someone like myself... I do NOT enjoy looking at my wallpapers through "curtains" or "slivers of glass".

Awesome, thanks man!! I'm still trying to learn why this is an issue on the HD2 as opposed to other 480x800 hardware, like my TP2, but it's great to see that people are finding ways around it
I noticed that at least one of the wallpapers you found and modified there (color flames) is one that I'd also stumbled across and cabbed up for the TP2 using HDWalls. I've got a dozen or so others of various styles that you're welcome to check out and work the same magic on if you're interested...some are in the same vein as the ones you have there, others are completely different, but I thought you might enjoy some or at least find them worth converting like you did the ones you posted above.

Yeah, thanks for posting those... I'll check those out.
I figured that I'd put these out there because I don't like when my wallpaper is stretched out and covers the curtains on the lock screen.
HD2 Walls
I came across eseth.net they have a lot of high quality wallpapers customly designed for the HD2. I even used one of the ones I downloaded to make my girl some tigger walls for her phone. Good looking out guys!
I'll be making more if people are willing to put in requests for LOCK SCREEN "FITTED" wallpapers.
Better yet, if they provide the 480x800 .JPEG file they wish to shrink down, and have adjusted to fit in between the lock screen curtains... I'll post those as well.
I'll do some more wallpaper hunting tonight though...
Forgive me..but..

No worries.
Simply create a folder on your SD card that you can name WHATEVER... and then go to your settings to change the LOCK SCREEN WALLPAPER!

Most of the ones I found (but not all) are in the following 4 posts, let me know if you want the original images for any of them:

Glad you liked 'em!
The ones in Reignzone's set are all pretty awesome too, especially for a screen as big as the HD2's

Whoopsie, sorry 'bout the 'dis' Reign!
I did download yours too, I just happened to reply to phunkee's reply is all!
I am a glutton for pixel precision. For example, I play FFXI on PC. I play on a window, not full screen, so, accounting for the task bar, the title bar, and the window borders (2 px on either side when maximized) I take all that into consideration and modify the game's registry entries so that when the window is maximized, the screen is drawn to 1:1 ratio. I then set my fake AA (the game doesn't support AA, but you can set the 3D render independent from the window size, so I super-sample) to exactly twice the resolution of my window resolution.
Anyway, that long winded paragraph was to say that yeah, I appreciate pixel perfection and I love what you're doing here.
A little off topic, do you guys know what do do about Opera Mobile (both or either the installed version 9.7 and the downloadable 10.0). Neither draws the web-page to 1:1 on the 480x800 screen. With 9.7, you can pinch-zoom in very minuscule decrements/increments to get the page to be 1:1, but it clears as soon as you leave the page. On 10.0 there's absolutely nothing that can be done because pinch-to-zoom doesn't work and the preset percentage values are atrociously off.
Strangely, Opera Mini doesn't suffer this problem, so I find myself using it often as my main browser, but there are times when I need to use a "real" browser, for example, when a page has dynamic content.
Has anybody noticed this?
Ok, so I'm using HD Walls now, and i've done every step right, my only uncertainty is, in teh config file Im not sure which to select.
I know it's Sense 2.5. I'm using Energy's 21898 rom with co0kie's 1.7 apr 14th.
I get the wallpapers to show up in my HDwalls on my phone, and when i set wallpaper nothing changes, even after clearing out said registries.
i was wondering if any one here knows, i have asked in other threads, how i can get this image to be my background for my home screen and all other tabs. my lock screen/start menu background is fine. i also have a cab. file for this image but when i install it just the top and bottom task bars change to the pic. any help/ideas? i have US TMO HD2 stock. someone else had this issue, and tried to install the hdwallpaper patch but it didnt help. i myself have not tried the patch. thanks in advance.

Susasama, here's the images you wanted, both the source and the one I used HDWalls to crop for portrait.
I don't have my HD2 yet ...but as soon as I get it my first order of business is figuring out how to use HDWalls for this new device. I've asked some other users to share their settings that worked, hopefully that might help in the meantime.

DOWNLOAD LINKS:
1.) MegaUpload
2.) RapidShare
Here are a few examples of wallpapers I've adjusted to fit within the TOP AND BOTTOM CURTAINS... which have been fashioned with "black bars" to overlay the coverage areas of your curtains... SEE BELOW! MORE THAN 15 WALLPAPERS ARE INCLUDED!

these look awesome. thanks for your contributions. two weeks ago, i thought about selling my hd2 to get a nexus one due to my love for android os. i'm actually liking win mo more and more. it can be just as customizable as the android OS as i'm slowly finding out.
Thanks for the praise folks...
However, I believe some of you are misunderstanding WHY exactly I created these wallpapers.
They are "curtain friendly" designs, referring to the wallpapers fitting within the physical curtain boundaries. NOT to be some kind of "background for all tabs", meaning that the wallpaper graphics I post are NOT even going to touch your task bar or soft key bar.
These are only created to fit within the boundaries of an unmodified lock screen.
Again, just a bump for those who sent me a PM.
Thanks for your interest.
Sorry for the spam though folks...
Do you know if it is possible to use android live wallpapers on the HD2? I really like the galaxy one on android phones. Its just a thought.
just thought tto let you knoe rapid share link does not work
Noticed this after updating to official WWE 3.14.
The Alarm Clock shortcut on the Home Tab stops working with the Vovichek cab installed.
This is a real pain cos I really would like more than the stock 9 quick-links, so if anyone knows a fix for this, or another simple method (reg-hack) to increase quick-links it would be great.
I've already tried Co0kie.HomeTab_v2.0.0.cab, but do not want the other stuff it installs.
Thanks.

Go to the link below and check out #22 in the list I think this is what you are looking for.
A little looking around on your own would have found this though as this is a stickie in the HD2 Windows Mobile Q&A and General forum.
That cab has been around for a looong loooong time and was created from an outdated version of manila which is probably why its causing issues.
I recall having problems with that cab myself a while ago. If you find after uninstalling it that your alarm still does not work, you may need to hard reset.
The tip suggested by T-Macgnolia should solve your problem though.
If not, even though you may not like the way CHT makes your home screen look by default, it is possible to change the settings to make your home screen look completely like a stock rom but with more quicklinks.
Personally I cant understand how anyone can use manila without CHT
Thats just me though.... Im a fanboy

I'm using it and I can confirm it's awesomeness.....
It literally does EVERYTHING!
Fully skinnable too, if you like that sort of thing.,
Sent from my fingers to your face...
Thanks for the replies.
Maybe i didn't give CHT the time it deserves - just installed and uninstalled.
Will try again - the clock widget looks smart as well.
