Best Buy will price match radio shack.

Get em on craigslist for 150 to 200 bucks and don't worry about upgrading

Walmart is selling the phone for $500 without contract :-(

What a rip off. I went to the t-mobile phone store near my place but they ran out of the HD2.
So I called my nearest Walmart and they say that the phone is $149 with contract (2-years) but $500 without any contract.
Wow, that is more than MRSP price.
I guess I will have to wait for the T-mobile store to stock them again.
for 50 bucks more you can have the phone without the wait. its your decision.
Gee, this is crazy. I called RadioShack and they have it in stock for $550 with no contract.
Is it legal for a store such as Walmart or Radio Shack to sell it more than MRSP?

I don't see how this is a "rip off" given that people were paying $700-$900 for their T9193s.
Personally I bought mine in Australia -- I was on holidays -- and wound up spending $798CDN.

thats crazy, 2 friends walked into our local super walmart and the phones price was $449.99 and tax
Buy it online for the 450 price. Free 2 - 4 day shipping for 12 dollars over night.
Not too bad. When my local store said they were out I watched 10 people book it for their cars. Screw that. If this one is already out by time you get to the others they will be long gone.
I waited since release of the Euro version so whats another 24 hours and no hassle.
It is dumb that they are selling it at a higher cost, but they do not get any benefit out of it other that the sale of the hardware so it makes sense they will raise the price a little.

Htc evo 4g Uprgrading Options

So this is the deal guys...today i try to go to best buy and radio shack and come to find out that i am not eligible for the evo until September and my wife phone until July next year i wanted to get two evos... so on april 19the sprint called me that they woud take 70 dollars off for each line if i agree to to be another 2 years with them and i was like ok sounds good i told rep that if i was going to have any problem getting the evo when it comes out soooo now i come to find out that i can not get the evo on release date .....sooo what do ytou guys suggest i do ..........oh yeah by the way i have to htc pro 2's
Aget somebody to get a new 2 year agreement and give them my htc pro 2 free and i get the evo
Bbuy it at full retail price ...... which i think im not cause its too epensive
CWait until retail price comes down
D just discontinue service with sprint
B or C are your best bets. If you sell the 2 TP2's you should offset quite a bit of the cost.
D - I don't really understand how this is going to help you get EVO's... It seems to be the exact opposite.
sell your tp2's, cancel your contract, pay the etf and buy the phones on a new contract. You could probably get $200.00-250.00+ each TP2 on ebay. Pay the ~50.00 to cancel your contract, ~150.00 for your wife's.
So:
+ 400.00 TP2 sale
- 200.00 cancellation fees
- 400.00 new EVO 4G phones
- 72.00 activation fees
= $272.00 total to get 2 new Evo's.
Sounds like a good deal to me.

Buy at full price now, come september use your upgrade to get another one and sell it on eBay.
Buy one Evo at full price. ($450)
Sell the TP2 on ebay (around $250)
Net outlay= $200 (same as you would pay to upgrade)
September, upgrade the other line to Evo or the next "latest-greatest"

60 Days I believe.
Yeah I am doing the same for my Hero. I am going to have them replace it for a refurb because A. the battery cover does not stay on and B. there is dust under the screen.
Then I hope to sell my Hero on ebay for ~$230
Pay Full out for the phone $449
So that comes down to ~220
Not bad for getting a super phone basically on an off contract device. Does anyone know if I will get charged for another activation fee if I am activating a new phone on a contract?

at sprint we are only taking new accounts and upgrades no outright purchases from what i was told. and i heard radioshack is doing the same.
Just got back from my local Sprint store and was assured that I could purchase for full retail. $475 after tax. I just have to get there when they open at 7 on the 4th.

would be quite dissapointing if you get there and thats not true. us employees in florida have a evo meeting on the 28th to tell us how its going down, so im sticking with that.
I can't see sprint telling people I don't want upfront $450+ from anyone because I would rather sell it for $199.
i can see them saying hey i rather not sell it to you because your stuck on contract with us anyways, and say hey i want you guys to upgrade and stay with us and hey i want new customers.

Well 3 employees, including the manager, all confirmed it, so I'm pretty confident. I would make a scene if they refused to sell it to me after telling me to my face that they would, and since I've been with them for 8 years, so I think I would get my phone instantly.
At Radioshack you definitely can buy it outright. It is $499.99, but there is a trade in program, so you can bring in your old phone and put that trade in toward the purchase, making it cheaper than a Sprint corporate store.

I'm selling my Hero on eBay, where I will get about $200 for it. RadioShack will give you about $85. Tough choice.
i got my evo preorder from a radioshack manager who gave me his word he will refund my deposit if the radio shack full retail price is more than the sprint price. he even wrote it down and signed it, and said he would be there on june 4.
i will bring a copy of the sprint evo flier in on june 4, hopefully i can just get him to price match.

Benefits of buying at Full price ?
Help me understand...
Why would you want to pay $499 for a phone that
Question-1: What are the benefits of buying an Evo full price?
Question-2: Wouldn't Sprint still force you to upgrade to the Everything Data plan AND also charge you the $10 per month per Evo on the account?
I would be willing to consider paying full price if I can justify a Return-On-Investment starting after "X" months
Thanks...

Any Ideas on How to Get an EVO for less than $450?

I'm just looking to join the dev community and do some documentation for DC. I don't need to do anything underhanded like complain to Sprint and whine for a free upgrade or whatever. Just curious to see if anyone knows how or if there are any deals that'll knock a few bucks off the non-upgrade price for me.
PS: I can also wait, I don't need the phone immediately. Looking for July sometime when they're back in stock.
There's a guy who posted earlier with thread title (evo 4g sucks), maybe he'll be inclined to sell it?

EDIT: In the words of the governator..., "NO DEAL!" He said no.
Can't imagine why he would want to keep it since it suks so bad..?
Search Bing for Wirefly. They're selling it for $480, but Bing Cashback will net you fifty dollars. In total, it will come out to $430. That isn't much of a difference, but it IS cheaper.
Or, if you're really lazy, you can follow this link: http://www.wirefly.com/eCommerce/SpecialOffer.aspx?cid=35808_4da6dc3a520b46b9832a393cf5eaa11d.

I am not sure if you have a current phone with sprint. I got the Hero in November '09 and was not quite at my upgrade. I was able to go to the sprint store and trade in my Hero for $80. So the Evo was $449 - $80 which I paid $369 for it. The good thing is November if they come out with a faster phone I will be able to sell my Evo because it is unlocked and get a new phone with the upgrade discount and it will make up the difference.

I think this is my best choice in all honesty. I have the same situation.
I COULD sell my launch HERO on eBay or Craigslist but I'm not confident that anyone would buy it for more than $100 anyway. A piece of the volume rocker cracked and some of the metallic paint is wearing on the back button.
I believe I'm also a premiere customer or whatever they call that, so yeah in October/November of this year if they release a new phone, I'd be eligible for $150 off or something.
EDIT: Another idea is to grab the EVO on Wirefly and get the $50 cash back, that's $430. Then try to give back my HERO for $80, that's roughly $350 for an EVO at that point. $350 isn't bad. It's kind of like a moron not mailing in his rebate and then ordering overnight shipping and having it delayed for 4 weeks. I could be comfortable being that moron.

I am not sure Sprint will do a trade in unless you buy the phone from them. If you decide to do this, ask to keep the battery for the hero. It is the same battery the Evo uses.
Get one for $450 and sell your previous phone to subsidize it. I got $225 for my Hero.

try this. have someone else put the phone under their name so you will get it for $199, then do a change of liability and put the phone in your name. not sure if they pay an etf cause they are transferring the contract to you. if not your all good. what i did was open up a business account and only paid 199 then i ported my old number to tmobile. 3 days later i ported it to my business account. paid an etf but only paid 199 for the phone and can sell my old phone to balance out the etf.
I ended up having to grab it off the Sprint website because Wirefly, Newegg and all the others stopped offering the phone. Unfortunately this means that I have to pay a hefty tax for the device bringing the total up to about $495 for the phone. To subsidize this though, I'm going to attempt to sell my HERO for about $100. I might even try to participate in the recycling program instead so that I can get $80 back and keep my battery/sd-card.
Either way, if I find that the phone sucks hard, I can just turn around and sell it. Also, if something more awesome comes out by October (my 1-year contract mark), I can upgrade to it and sell the EVO for a decent price.
consider this idea.. only an idea...
try Best Buy.. so they can give you instant rebate.
tell them you want to cancel your contract..pay the fee. i am guess it is $150.
get new contract.. have them port the number to new contract. get the EVO for $199.
Trade the Hero into BB for $80-100 (i have heard some have gotten $110)
if it works. 199 +150 - $100 = 250
maybe.. a shot

Wont work.
a. Unless you have another line available to add, you can't turn one off and then add a new one right away.
b. You can't port a number from a deactivated line (and usually not within the same carrier.)
I suppose one could try to pay the ETF to have Sprint at least change the contract from 2-yr to month to month. Although they'd probably be confused by this, and probably wouldn't let you do it to begin with. Then just sign up for a new plan, and start a new 2-yr contract. I really doubt that could work.
Alternatively, I suppose if one didn't want to keep their phone number...they could just ETF, and purchase the new phone and contract.
Really I'm not willing to **** around with any of that though. I was more interested to see if someone like...knew a guy who had a trick or coupon code, or had access to some kind of super secret "knock-a-few-bucks-off-for-a-friend" deal.

How much did your G2 cost you?

Wassup guys,
Im very interested in buying a G2, ive been using my HD2 for 3 months now, and have been running android on it. But ive decided its time for a new phone. I am very interested in buying the G2 how much did it cost you out the door? Right now i have $180 so im trying to come up with the rest but im just wondering how much more is it going to cost me. Im due for an upgrade on t-mobile so im updating my line i live in california.
Thanks,
Cali
Really depend on the plan you have. I have even more plus plan with $295 credit available and its gonna cost me $257 and some change when I get it on Wednesday and heard that radio shack has it for 149 with 2year contract, so best to go there for you since you will be upgrading on a contract. I don't have a contract

it cost me a hug and a thank you. got it as a present
a kidney and half of a liver... also a quarter of my pay check... also twice of what my wife allows me to spend in a month ><
It cost me $100 in birthday money, $140 for about 2 hours of computer sidework and $7 out of my own pocket.
I live outside the US, so I could only depend on some conscious importers or I will have to take the pricier Desire Z
Suppose the no contract full price in the States is 500, that's reasonable enough for me, just hope the shipping plus markup won 't be extorting

A few over on the Slickdeals forums managed to get it for that price by going through and threatening to cancel first.
I got mine for $149 through tmobile. I called the retention dept over at tmobile and told them i got a flyer stating $100 off any phone upgrade. They did some digging and then told me it can only be applied to existing phones. The rep then said they could offer me a better deal and that's how the $149 came about. And payments are spread over 4 months.

I got it for that price. It was 176 down and 3 or 4 monthly payments of $40. Then a $50 rebate on top of that.
And that's cuz I upgraded to the HD2 in March when it launched, BOGO.
Did the EIP, but it'll cost me 552 total.
Around 500, which is what I'll be paying extra over the course of two years if I switched from the Even More Plus plan to the Even More (if I could even do that, but don't tell me I can't because that'll shatter my dream) as it would $20 extra per month for 2 years ($480).
I paid half my fortune (broke college student, heh). All my savings are gone, time to save up for another 2 years.
It's cool, T-Mobile announced HSPA+ in San Jose today
Not entirely true. Depends on how you do it. If you upgrade, yes, its 199. But with my situation, I just added a new line to my account, and it was 149.00
