Very good software to control data usage - Desire Themes and Apps

Hi, would like to share with you a software which is very good at controlling the usage of data. It just take one click to block data connection and another click to back to use. Search it by "Data Controller" in the market.

Or APNdroid.
Or any widget that offers data on/off (SwitchPro, Extended Controls).
Plenty to choose from.

The stock HTC mobile data connection one-click toggle widget is better than everything I've yet seen, which includes the third party apps you've both mentioned.

Not really comfortable, otherwise why is there a Widget of HTC doing this Function? Because it is more comfortable than holding down the stupid Power Button.

Yeah, that's true. If doing it the power button way is not good enough for someone, then there's no quick-screen access toggle widget with the function of the stock HTC one. I mean this one: http://yfrog.com/0ymobilewidgetp

HTC Legend tip

I found out, that you can add the older android version sites to the phone without rooting it..(maybe some of you already know this)
okej.. so go to:
settings/application(s)/manage applications/then you get to a list of applications, find htc sense and click it/ then click on clear default, then click on the home buttom, and you should be able to choose home or htc sense.. click on use by default for this action, and then choose the one you want to use as normal..

tried the Home and other main screen apps but HTC sense is king for now
(is just installed home via APK and i could switch with the home button long press)
Didn't know that. Thanks.

The implications of data control apps changing APN's

Hi,
Does anyone know anything about these apps and widgets that are supposed to control mobile data? I mean apps like APNdroid, Switchpro etc.
Most of them it seems are unreliable, the ones Ive looked at anyway, but the common theme for them is to change the APN. For example if I use extended controls widget to control mobile data, it changes the APN to orangeinternet[extendedcontrols] when the widget is off by default. However, when I long press on the power button, it seems mobile data is on...
I was really wondering about the impact to battery as I assume my phone is searching for a non-existant APN, if you see what I mean?
I am hoping for some expert knowledge on this, as I am using Launcherpro Plus and so cant use the sense widget, and before anyone says to long press on power button, I thik its clumsy and one click too many!
Thanks in advance!
Have you tried switch pro? It's like the power control widget but you can select what options you want,... give it a go.

Yeah Ive tried it thanks, but again, it wasn't reliable enough for me and it changed the APN, iirc. I'm currently trying Data on Demand from the market, which you can set to turn off data when the phone sleeps, or schedule your own profile for data use.

Switch Widget for Mobile Data Network.

I've been trying to get a juicy theme going on but I'm having real trouble finding a switch to allow direct access to allow me to switch mobile data on and off.
SwitchPro doesn't allow me to do it, both "Data Connection" and "2g 3g" only switch it off for a few seconds and then it pops back up. If I then go into settings, Wireless, Mobile network shows as being ticked, yet says "Connection failed" - It is of course connected and functional.
Extended Controls 2g/3g and Data Network do exactly the same.
There is, of course, the native Sense UI widget...so how hard can it be if you don't want to use Sense?
Is there a widget out there that will allow me to directly switch Mobile Network (data) on and off from the homescreen?
Currently on latest Mocado R8 custom bake.
i had that problem before as well..what i did is remove the defualt apn and add them back manually..and the problem solve..u can try on this method..

Could you give me a quick step-by-step?
Will try apnDroid too, thanks guys.
EDIT - apndroid simply disables it for a few seconds, it then reconnects.
widget didnt do anything.
I need one because you have to press and hold the power button and it seems a bit rough on it and we all know that these little buttons always go bad so a widget would be great for relieving the burdon on the power button.
any other suggestions, for a rooted evo?

HTC Switches on the Aria.

There were four switches on one of the screens when I hard reset my Aria. GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi, and Airplane. I accidentally removed one of them and can't find them to readd them. Does anyone know where to find them? Stock Sense... for now.

Long press the screen then widget>settings>select the one you want.
My last Intruder was a Grumman A-6E.
It's actually widget/Power Control.
The OP said they removed one of the switches. Power control widget is one large widget. Unless you can remove one part of that widget, the OP must be referring to what I posted. Furthermore, the Power control widget has 5 functions, not 4.
Those are the ones. Thanks!

exactly.
the reason the OP can't find them, is because the "settings" widgets are hidden until you select "settings"

3g cannot be disabled by quicksettings on 2.3.3

Hi,
After installing 2.3.3 my 3g cannot be disabled anymore through quicksettings. It can only be disconnected through enabling wifi or by using the menu data.connection... Is there any.workaround?
thanks in advance
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Hold power button and deactivate data network mode.
will that disable all data connections including separate one for MMS? One of the nice things about QuickSettings on Froyo is that I can disable my main 3G/2G data connection but leave the MMS connection working.
Exactly... I would prefer to use the quicksettings rather than the button. Is this a quicksettings bug or a.ginger one?

No, it's not a bug with your app, I use "extended controls" and I have the same problem that I can only disable data via the settings menu or with the power button. Extended Controls just says "Gingerbread doesn't support direct data network switching" when trying to switch it off via the widget. However it directly leads you to the network settings where you can disable it normally which is still far more comfortable than using the power button.
