I know this question of satnav on the XDA has caused much gnashing of teeth, but I am trying to get TomTom5 working on a XDAII, WM 2003, using a TomTom wired receiver.
Everything works - and works perfectly, I might add - as it should EXCEPT I cannot change the basic defaults - e.g. home address. If I do, next time it reverts to the address previously used.
Equally, it will accept favourites, but not save them. Next time I fire it up any new entries are gone.
Can anyone suggest a way of changing these defaults?
Doubt this is a usefull reply ....
but it sounds like, where ever TomTom is writting to, to hold the Home and Favourite info ... is not staying put.
Is everything as it should be ? no missing files from folders ?
I thought that too, but as far as I can see everything seems OK as far as files are concerned. I am reluctant to use the restore factory settings button in case I do more damage. I can live with the default problem and enjoy the pleasure of a John Cleese sound alike!
But it would be nice to solve this problem.
Hi Frazer
you have to change the following file in your storage card\ Great-Britain-Map folder
Great-Britain-Map.cfg
to Great-Britain-Map.cfg.old
then start your tomtom and change you rhome address then you will able to store your home address
hope this help

Gugi, you're a genius. I owe you several pints if you are ever in deepest Yorkshire.
Your idea worked perfectly.
Very many thanks
@all,
like in the previous versions tomtom5.00 doesnt work with Pois (points of intrests) on. Navigation just seases and tomtom shuts itself off totally.
With POIs off everything works neatly.
Anybody knows why? And why hasnt tomtom fixed the problem by now?
Or is it just me, the most stupid assumeable user?
Well they've released versions 5.100 & 5.200. & it's very likely the number of poi's on which it crashes. Don't use them all, but a few & it should work.
Cheers, M
jupp,
set up only a couple of them and it works like a breeze.
Thanx
You're welcome
I've been running the maximum number of POIs since I installed TT and have never had a crash- this was of course after the 'POI Patch' was applied.
I also run Checkpoint on there- this only slows down the 'demo route'; live navigation has never been affected.
Hi,
can you give us the link to the poi patch cab? I heard before about it, though haven't tried it yet.
Poiplace is a fine piece of work & does its job great. I remenber reading somewhere that having a list of speed-cam's is illegal in Germany, not to scare you just a warning. Course I might be mistaken as well.
Regards, M
I remember uploading to FTP a while ago since I couldn't find the original one anywhere.
Look in this folder, there is a file called 'Patch POI TTN5.zip'.
ftp://xda-developers.com/Uploads/SatNav/Tomtom/
This was working fine in TTN V5.00 and now on 5.21 too.
Patch sounds great too.
Any ideas what it actually does?
Thanx
i also had the same problem. i just went to settings and disabled POIs from appearing and thats it. i drove from northampton to leeds without a problem. you can also try using the patch which was posted by sh500. unzip it and
copy all files to 2577 folder on youur PPC SD card
after installing TT5. then excecute the ttn.cab on
your SD card.
then thats it

On some devices TT would crash with the POIs on. Installing this patch seems to resolve this issue.
In my case, it was only the 'Cash Dispensers' POI that was causing the program to crash. But whatever the POI, this patch should overcome this issue.
There are already a few threads on the forum discussing this further.
Link does not seem to work
Hello everyone,
I am having a terrible time with my XDA IIs, I have installed TomTom 5 and no matter what I try I cannot get any POIs working (not even one). Anyway, I googled this problem and found this forum. I saw the link above in one of the posts but the link does not seem to work. If anyone has a copy of this patch I could really do with it. If anyone whose got it, could you please send it to [Email Removed] or post a working link to it! I would really appreciate it!
Thanks.
The link that i've posted is working...
You've got to (re)login using 'xda' for username and 'xda' for password from the 'File'> 'Login As' menu and type the credentials in there (this is if you are using Internet Explorer)
Or use ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/SatNav/Tomtom/
works very good as link. Not sure what the program does, as it installs TT5.0
M
Sorted!
Thanks sh500, I got it now and it is installed and, so far, appears to be working, at least in demo mode.

Ok cool- i haven't had any problems with live navigation either.
New to the forum, been reading a lot of the posts over past week or so, I hope some of you knowledgable types out there can help me beacuse I am close to suicide here!
I have an o2 XDA Mini s, have had it for about 3 months now, originally had tomtom 5 installed and working with my bluetooth gps no bother, everything was all ok, however over last weekend I had to hard reset the xda and since then when I install tomtom it goes theru the first setup procdure, you get to select a voice, you test the voice, slect next and nothing happens, at one point it was left on this screen for 30 mins, it appears as if the xda has crashed, however if I press the hang up key the tomtom screen disappears and takes me back to the main screen and lets me use the xda again no bother, but the small tomtom hands are still visible int eh bottom right corner.
I have tried everything, I upgraded to tomtom 5.21 from the tomtom site, I removed all the celeb voices i had in case maybe they were faulty, I have reinstalled about 6 times, even trying an install disk I got from a colleague but nothing seems to work.
Please help me before I throw myself off the nearest bridge.
Many thanks for any help.
p.s I do not install from a CD I install via the 5.21 exe from the tomtom wesbsite.
cheers again
yes - I had this problem too..... its down to the checking of running signed code - basically its waiting for you to ok the next bit.
There is a tweak program recently in the forums (registry tweaker?) that on the third tab has a way of disabling the signed code popup

Actually its the "easy tweaking thread" ...
Hi
cheers for the replies
are you talking about the registry wizard by nico thats mentioned in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...=0&postorder=asc&highlight=tweaking&start=150
Just wanted to double check before i go installing uit to the xda mini s
cheers again
thats it.....
you do have a Wizard? im not sure what the mini s is
how can i find out exactly?
sorry to ask so many questions but i'm pretty new to using the XDA's
cheers again
ok found it it is a wizard, found a bit of info on a site somewhere.
anyway, i have installed the registry wizard, i have ticked the box on the third tab called "disable security warning non cert. app"
reinstalled tomtom, but i am still getting the same problem......as soon as i press select to confim selection of the jane voice it just stops, nowt happens.
any help greatly appreciated
cheers
quick update, I managed to get the tomtom to load, managed to pair the bluetooth gps, everything runs great now....except there are no sounds in tomtom whatsoever, the voices etc are there and can be selected but when I press test, nothing, there is also no sound for the poi either, can anyone shed any light on this problem
cheers
p.s all other sounds in the actual xda itself are working ok, so it must be a tomtom problem somewhere.
***SORTED***
U have to install tom tom and the maps voices etc, then go into tomtom, select the voice, then it asks you to activate, at this point exit out of tomtom, now copy the already activated tomtom.exe file over to the program files/navigator folder, overwrite the one thats there and hey presto tomtom now fully working.
I've asked around and nobody seems to know the solution but it does appear others have the problem so I will ask here so it doesn't get lost. When I use Opera Mobile and try and use the hardware keyboard I can only type in 1 key and that is all. I can use the onscreen keyboard just fine though. I would really like to use the hardware keyboard because that is kinda why I got the wing I am running OTP 7.4 (I think thats the version) and have tried upgrading my opera to later version (9.5 build 2392) and that doesn't seem to work. Could somebody please help.

Not sure but have you googled searched this forum for "wing keyboard fix" I know Duprade has an excellent fix as well as others out there. I personally use Duprades its easy to use here it is...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359696
It isn't a problem where they keys aren't set correctly, it is a problem with Opera not accounting for hardware keyboards I believe.

this might help www.forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=55907
That kinda helps but Opera was built into my ROM so I need to download the files so I can just overwrite what I need to to make it work. I know a few guys have this issue since it pops up a lot when I google it.

yea, i was wondering the same thing, everytime i press a key is closes my abilities to type

Really no more lag ?
Anybody knows, where can we can find this version ?
Thanks for this news man.
I just checked TomTom Home => but there are no updates for me.
I have Version7.910(9185) installed.
btw: I hope you know what GPS Lag means.
You make 90 degree Curve and on the Display it shows up in 2-3 sec.
Is it possible to have a cruise-ripped version of this build? Or is it warez related? :?
I'm using 7.910(9185) with almost zero lag. My true position is reflected by the tip of the arrow, not the centre but map response on tight corners is perfectly adequate for navigation and almost as good as the Navteq system fitted to my car.
what number/versions of maps do work with tomtom7.915.916?
Could you please share? If it's still a free soft.
Thats the Problem - your GPS position in TomTum shuld NOT be the top of the Arrow.
And be honest, how accurate is it in a curve or a Roundabout.
I use my Diamond while driving with an external bluetooth mouse and it is 5m accurate an zero lag.
The Problem is imho not the Software but the way qualcomm is pre-processing the NMEA Data.
Same experience for me
No more lags, fast fix. Before; I sometimes had to wait 20 min for a fix. Now 1-2 min. Must say I updated rom (_NLD_2.03.) and TomTom together.
here is a RS link for the new tomtom
MOD EDIT: No warez
Jut cant figure out how to install to internal memory. Link Include QVGA and VGA
for sure i know what a lag is, i use a smartphone since tomtom 5 on my first qtek...and diamnod is my 11th smartphone so if i say i have a lag i assume to know what i say
i also never post a link because of respect of rules in xda-dev ! google is the friends of all of us for testing purpose only
but i thought it was a good information to share because i really have no lags with this version and my diamond, where i am with my car is correct with the tomtom from NOW
maybe it could be the same for you, for me it's ok i can say
I'm using version 7.450.9028.
How can I upgrade to the lastest version?
Thanks
Installed on HD, the lag is minor than other versions, but still exists
Works great
hi devilmc,
for me nothing special to do, just installed over the old one, start it, internal gps correctly seen in my settings, fix very quick
br
Edit : between your message and your modification seems to be ok, that why i edit also

Did you have to reactivate your maps?
nothing about it just install and it's ok
Surely there must always be a lag of some size or other, otherwise Tomtom will have to predict where you are going? And I presume the lag time must increase with speed, as the processing time must be standard no matter how fast you are going?
Anyway I've been using version 7.450.9028 with 720.1802 maps for some time, and, on a straight road my car is more or less at the point of the arrow at 70mph, so I will try this new version and see how much better it is
yes sure you are right, but i can say than with some pna of my friends tested yesterday (one tomtom 920, one garmin) the diamond and this tomtom is the same, it's a normal software for gps now and no frustrations anymore.
What this version seems to never do :
the coffee
predict where you will be one minutes after in the future

Correct size of POI:s Icons
Hi!
First of all, TomTom for Diamond has been concidered NOT to be warez in the past. Why the change?
Second, in the 7.915.916 at last tha POI iocns does show up in the "normal" size as in the QVGA versions. Big thanks TomTom!
Third, I also wanted an installation on the interna storage. But since there was'nt any way to change during the installation, I simply moved all the files and maps, besides CurrenMap and UserPatch in Program/Navigator to the internal memory and created a Program/Navigator folder. Works nice, just the icon under programs now is wrongly linked and needs to be changed.
