Since I am not yet eligible to add links to my posts, I can only tell you to go to youtube and search for "InvenSense MotionProcessing". I guarantee it'll be worth it and maybe someone could post the link. Awesome one handed motion command tech. Check it out!

this is the link, but i dont think it is really useable...
That looks like a lot of work. Goddamn...
So rather than pressing the call button and then speakerphone button, I have to do a 7-step of shaking, turning, girating, tilt shaking, etc...to activate the speakerphone after my call is connected?
What about to those people with old age, osteoporosis, or Alzheimer? THEY WOULDNT EVEN BE ABLE TO USE THE PHONE AT ALL!!
uh no, if u listen to the demo, u can setup 1 motion to do whatever u want in the same way u would set up a speed dial contact or a hot key, whatever. I know i would like it.

Yea, for you. If it's for mass-market, it would not. Imagine if you give it to your old grandma who has the memory of a pebble and expect her to memorize the different "hotkey" that she has set up and expect her to do it right...
how many "grandmas" do you know of that use smartphones? I bet you only need 1 hand.

How many people in their 50s and 60s using an iphone? Don't be retarded. This is not about smartphone and more about the technology in your original post. Sooner or later, every quasi-smartphones out there will have a accelerometer and can do what that technology describes.
I don't get your point. I think most people could figure it out quite easily and would be in the majority for the simple reason that they like new tech, and for those who can't, probably wouldn't even be interested in even a ground level smartphone. And you're right, sooner or later, every quasi-smartphones out there will have a accelerometer and probably most of the owners won't even use the tech. I know a lot of people in their 50/60's that have iphones because they're the "thing to have" and most of them have no idea what the phone is capable of. I agree, it's not for everybody. But I disagree and I still think that most people would love it including me but I just got my Hd2 about a month ago so I can wait.
I was a Nintendo fan until I wasted money on the Wii... Motion controls don't do it for me personally and just imagine tilting the phone so you can see the screen clearly without a reflection from bright sunlight and the phone going crazy...

My mother has it. She's not so good with technology but at least with this she could hold the phone 'still' and wait for the feature she wants to pop up.
Its neat to show, but not really applicable.
Just about everything shown there can be done already much faster and easier and with more stable results. Why scroll around the screen by holding a button and tilting the phone when I could just tap the one I want...?
I have enough problems waking my phone up in my pocket with out my jogging motion dialing out hanging up and dialing out again ever time I take a step.
It is neat tech, but I dont see it taking off in that form at all. Aspects of it I am sure will find their way into phones, but most of that is just for show IMO.
I think people are forgetting that apps are customizable. Just because it can do all those thing doesn't mean it just has an on/off switch and it's all or nothing. Don't you think it would have settings for enabling/disabling the different functions? I mean as far as jogging goes, wouldn't you just shut the function off much in the same way you would put your phone in airplane mode when you get on a plane?
I like doing one-handed operations and got into the habit when I had an iphone. And yes, you can do it already but I find because of the Hd2's larger screen, it's not as comfortable in my hand and sometimes feels like it might slip so to be able to answer the phone by a simple motion of my wrist like Captain Kirk answering his communication device would be pretty cool. And to go from one quicklink page to another by a simple tilt would be cool also. I would probably still choose an app with my thumb but that's my point. To have the different options would be nice. I would probably use the zoom function also. The reason I sold my iphone is because I got tired of chasing the next jailbreak in order to get the phone the way I wanted it instead of the way Apple would allow me. And the Hd2's hardware was too good to pass up and I have no regrets and the more options I have, the more I like it. I'm not gonna sell my Hd2 if that tech came out on a phone tomorrow but to me, if your spending a considerable amount of money on a phone, it should pretty much do anything I want it to short of cooking my dinner!
So you tilt the phone to get up the photo you want to show a friend, hand it over and they tilt the phone and suddenly they've scrolled through your album and are seeing those pics you took of your gf last night instead
Ha! Let's hope they already thought of that in the research and development department!

I need alternatives! Or I will very soon be launching this POS out of a top story window or stamping on it.
The keyboard is completely blinking useless.
The keys are too close together.
The auto spell is absolutely awful and doesn't learn.
it doesn't put a capital at the beginning of new sentences.
You also can't type at any speed since if you don't lift your finger directly upwards after selecting a letter, the drag motion across will select the letter to it's side. It so frustrating I don't want to use the phone for anything involving text input. Period.
I had an 3G before, which with a smaller & lower res screen manages to excel at text input. How have HTC managed to completely screwed this most basic and important feature up?!
Are there any other keyboards one can install over this [email protected]? Oh, and before someone mentions anything about installing the reduced sensitivity .cab - I have. I have been using it for a week and it's still an unusable POS!
I love the phone but I cannot live with this any longer. If no proper solutions are available then it's going back, just hopefully before it's in tiny bits!
I hear you man lol lol lol.
I cringe when I hear an incoming text message alert.....because it means I have to deal with typing a reply.....and then having to correct every single word I type. It's sooo tedious and I came from another touch-screen phone, so it isn't like I don't know what I'm doing.
Its odd, the same keyboard is fine on the HD, but not on the HD2. I use the phone pad option with xT9 on, it works really well for me
The problem with the HD2 keyboard is that it takes the last key you touched not the first on. So if you you press on A and moved to L without removing your finger, it will take L. This is really weird...because most of the time after pressing on the key you want while removing your finger you accidentally touch another one due to the limited space available between keys...
Try Touchpal, works with great accuracy and learns as you type new words. They have also emailed me to say that they will be updating software for phones with bigger screens such as the HD2.
You can try before you buy, just do a search on google. If you do buy the software, make a request as the more requests they get, the sooner they will probably make an updated release.
Also as a side note, I don't think the original keyboard is as bad as you have described as I seem to be able to use it fairly accurately though I do agree they could have done a better job.
personally I use touchpal, but you might like resco keyboard, it has much more spacing.
I have to totally agree with you. I have went this year from an Iphone 3G, to a hero, now to an HD2, and the text input is way way worse on the HD2. I find the blooming delete key is the worst offender, seems to type m or n, or for that matter any other letter, really annoying. I have also aligned the screen, many many times, and installed the .cab mentioned earlier, not better. .I Love the hardware, but hate the software, so debating putting it on flebay and buying a 3GS, or even a Milestone (Droid), but am reluctant to do so in case it gets fixed. I emphasise also with the previous post, it has got to the point now, that if I need to reply to an email, and it will be more that a few words, if I am at home I will boot up my laptop to reply to the email, just so I dont end up throwing the HD2 out the window in frustration.
It's a fact. I miss my 3Gs keyboard. Although it was smaller, it was more precise and fast... and the "xT9" of it, worked way better as well. It seemed like I reads our mind
HastaSSSS
I've just downloaded the Resco keyboard and it seems much better....still not perfect but I think that's down to the sensitivity of the HD2 screen.
Does anyone know how to turn off the annoying Resco click every time I use to keyboard?
I'm not alone then!
Seriously, if nothing's done soon i'll end up being arrested for muttering profanities and expletives in public like a loony tune! I'll file another remark with HTC along with the dodgy camera (pink spot) complaint I made last week. Which, considering their insistence that it is a software problem, they are taking a long time to resolve!
Thanks for the heads up on the alternatives on the keyboards...I will give one of them a pop and if that doesn't work then i'll have to just get the quill and blotching paper out...i'd rather that than going back to an iPhone and there's nothing else out there that's even interesting, phone wise. (Droid's naff)
Cheers!
You might want to try Shapewriter, takes a little getting used to but it's been easier for me to use than any of the keyboards I've tried...
http://www.shapewriter.com/software.html
I agree the 3G/3Gs keyboard are more clever but that's only a software thing. It can be corrected on the HD2 but the question is will they?!
It was quite ironic that I was having the same problems as you all have but when I loaded CoPilot and used its own keyboard the accuracy was near the iphone standard! Makes me realise HTC are too blame for the in-accuracy and hope they correct it soon....
Sometimes trying to be different isn't always the best idea especially when Apple have at least got the keyboard right. Create something like CoPilot or the iPhone keyboard and we're all happy again.

Nothing wrong with it. I came from an iPhone and as such it took me some time to get used to the HD2's but I got there in the end. I still can't compose an email or text message as fast as I could on the iPhone but some people go on about the HD2's as if it's totally unusable which is frankly a pile of s**te. The key is not to rush.
I also dreaded the TXT alert.. I updated to a 148 rom using the sticky guide.. The HD2 has just earnt a stay of execution. Many times better than before, still not up to the iPhone standard, but then i doubt we will ever see this happen.

I don't see why you think that, there is no reason the HD2 can't have a keyboard identical in use to the iPhone.

No, the keyboard is a pile of sh!te and you are definitely in the minority- the point is too build a keyboard on which that you can type quickly, accurately, precisely and without stress. Not one that you have to concentrate on every single keystroke on, and woe betide you if you have to use the dreaded delete key...mmmnlllllllnmmmmmmllll.
But hey, at least HTC have given us a big space bar and HUGE forward, up, down & backwards keys....phew, what would we do without them?!
Got my phone this morning and at first did struggle with the keyboard, but after a few hours I have absolutely no problems with it, typing's absolutely fine. I get the odd press wrong while navigating but I'm on target most of the time.
I agree, there is no reason why HTC can't improve the keyboard software and make it more accurate. If Apple can do it, HTC certainly can.....

At the beginning of the thread, you asked for alternatives. Have you tried any of the suggestions people have made?
If none of those suit, you may be better off going back to the iPhone (where, you're right, the keyboard is great).
But I'm not sure I've ever seen an adult get so upset about something that's really not that bad, and certainly not worth getting that stressed over.

Yes well greatcapp, irony, SOH's, sarcasm, exagerations and frustrations don't translate well over forums! I'm pretty chilled now, since I haven't had to use the phone to a while
I have to disagree with you strongly - it IS that bad, and i'm pro WM and anti iPhone. I'm not bashing it to have a laugh, i'm bashing it because I want something done about it by HTC. If everyone just rolled over every time technology went backwards saying 'it's not that bad' and 'you get used to it' then we'd all end up back with a coke can and a bit of string!
HTC have had a VERY long time to get this right, Apple showed the industry the light and even HTC have managed much better keyboards with previous versions of their phones. This one needs some fuss kicked up about it to spur them into action.
It won't take much, just a million small tweaks here and there and this phone will be perfect
ps. I will have a go at one of the keyboard versions later, hope there's trails- I really don't want to waste any more money on software.
ok, i'm tired of seeing all of these threads about how much the nexus sucks or there's blah blah blah issue with it. listen, if you own this phone, you own the top piece of tech on the globe.
the g1 forum was never like this (and apparently they're ****ed cause they will never see a 2.x officially, so they actually have a reason to ***** but they don't), so what is the issue? there are threads saying the droid incredible is the nexus killer.. yea right. if i decided to travel the world, my nexus one will support that. if i decided to make a call in a freakin lambo at 120 miles per hour with the top down, my nexus one will support that. if i wanted to have the first cell phone in the world that actually has flash, my nexus one will support that. the droid incredible wasn't even rooted yet, and the situation is looking pretty grim. the iphone, wow, i shouldn't even waste my time talking about that piece of garbage. anyone that uses that crap, i look at them in disgrace and shame. sorry, i don't want something so basic that my grandmom can even use it.
so my point is, if you want a real phone, then get a nexus one. if you already own one and like it, my respect goes to you. if not, please don't waste space on this forum and find a phone that better suit your needs.
I have a couple of theories as to why there's a lot more... scrutiny here than in other forums. Most G1 users were able to buy their phones under contract, and as such the proverbial stakes may be lower because they didn't pay as much as N1 owners who probably paid full price (like myself).
The bigger theory, though, is that Google trumped this phone up to be the first 'super phone'. There's nothing super about not being able to handle more than 2 touch inputs, making gaming a hard task. There's nothing super about the GPU, or the jittery scrolling in some websites and on the home screen.
When you say a phone has a 1ghz processor in it, and you claim it to be a superphone, you don't expect to run into performance issues. I know I sure didn't. I've since grounded myself to the realities of hype and marketing, but it still gets under my skin that I'm still playing the same 'upgrade every other day to try to get the phone to actually be what I bought it for' game I've done with past Windows Mobile devices.
All in all I like my N1 a lot. I think it's one of the best phones out right now, and will be for some time to come, but they could have saved themselves a lot of grief by coming up with a better touch screen sensor. You just don't take shortcuts with a 'superphone'.
Purchasing an amazing smartphone like the N1 and b*itching about an annoyance is like getting married and getting pissed when your wife leaves crumbs on the counter or doesn't tuck in the sheets: grow up, get over it, and start appreciating it for all the great things that it does for you.
And please... dont use the excuse "but but... I paid $500 for my phone so I expect it to be be perfect and not have anything wrong with it". This is a idiotic since nothing is perfect (even the EVO 4g will have something wrong with it). Try telling this stupid argument to your future wife and see what happens "Honey... I spent $500 on you so I want you to be perfect and not have any quirks".
The N1 is amazing for me. So much that I can see myself using it beyond 2 years. It fulfills every single one of my needs. After years of searching I have finally found my "perfect" phone. Its that good.
I appreciate the sentiment, ap. For the most part I agree, but every person has different needs. One of the big things I use my phone for is gaming when I ride the metro to work. I also work on my book with my phone when I commute to work.
Imagine my surprise when I buy SuperGNES and realize I can't use the gamepad as advertised because the betweens are 15mm within the same axis so I couldn't do a running jump in Super Mario World. Yet my girlfriend can do this fine on her 2 year old iPhone 3G. And I have the superphone.
Or picture the look on my face when try to type really fast on the Android keyboard as I work on my book but letters don't register that did on the iPhone I used to have. I could hold down one key, and press another and not have the first one register on the N1, my superphone. This isn't a HTC Touch Cruise I'm using.
If I go to www.textsfromlastnight.com, the scrolling is choppy and not aesthetically pleasing. I hate to use the iPhone again, but the scrolling on that is fine. Websites seemingly at random do not perform well on the N1, my superphone.
Don't get me wrong, though. I do like my phone. But some of its shortcomings are not ones I'd expect, given the hardware specifications. I also did not expect Google to skimp on the touchscreen sensor on its flagship device.
If your phone does everything you want it to do, then that's great, and I'm happy for you. Not everyone can say that, though, and that's criticism I feel Google exposed itself to by calling the N1 a superphone, a class that's supposed to be above everything that came before it.

Interesting points made about some of the short comings of the N1. Coming from a BlackBerry Pearl 8120 to this phone is quite a step up. It is hard for me to find negatives with the phone, besides being spoiled by the BB battery life of 2-3 days with moderate use compared to the N1 ~24hrs.
I am not sure about your experience while typing. I installed Swype and find it easier and faster to type e-mails and forum posts, and SMS compared to a physical keyboard and the default keyboard on the N1.
Coming from most phones the N1 will be a HUGE step up, and rightfully so. I'd say that the N1 is about 90% of what I thought it would be, which in its own right is pretty damn goood.
The keyboard issue I'm talking about refers to the current limitation where if you press more than one spot on the same axis within about 15 mm the input will flatten to one. There's something called multitouch visualizer on the market that shows this. It's the same hinderance that makes same axis multitouch on games not work well. Using Swype will make this a non-issue, I would imagine since it's just the one touch sliding around.
Android 2.2 is rumored to fix some of this, but it's a head scratcher that Google would use such a low-end touch screen on their breakout device.

The N1 is new to me in a lot of aspects. This is my first touch screen phone, first Android phone, first phone that supports 3G/HSPDA, first with GPS support.
Hmm, I'll have to find that app regarding the sensor in the marketplace; read about it before in other threads.
2.2 should be coming out this month or next month? I'm assuming N1 would be on top of the list to get the update and I think the new myTouch 3G 3rd gen is getting it too?
It's a shame that the Nexus One got stuck with the clearpad touchscreen, but it's a relatively low volume phone and HTC probably either had enough stock or an existing contract with a supplier that lined up well with their projected sales numbers. I'm sure the designers would have loved to have used a better part, but typically the bean counters are the ones that get to make those decisions.
To my understanding, 2.2 should be out sometime next month. Keep in mind that I am no way trying to bash the Nexus One. I'm just objective about it. All in all it's an amazing phone. It's arguably pound for pound the best phone out, and it's certainly the best one I've ever owned.
It's just not a 'superphone'. Not to me, for the reasons I stated above; reasons I feel are valid.

Hah, I know you're not bashing the phone Just picking out somethings that stuck out that is either a flaw or we prefer something else.
Be interesting to see what is included in 2.2 that might be derived from CM5.0.6
Well, there are a few things already in ROMs that are supposed to be in 2.2, namely the trackball color change business. I want to say some of the OpenGL upgrades are already floating around, but I may be wrong on that. I hope I am. There's always talk of JIT compiling, a concept I don't know a lot about other than it's a different way for the processor to handle stuff that's supposed to be faster. I hope/think that's in 2.2.
The biggest concern for me is (shocker) the supposed multitouch changes.
While i do love the phone and it is a sexy piece of hardware... i am still bitter about the quality of the touch screen...
the fact that i cannot really play games because the multi-touch is kind messed up is a real downer for me... i really hope this issue gets somewhat fixed in the froyo update but i do not have my hopes up... emulators and stuff was something i was really looking forward to on my phone but the touch screen sort of put the nix on that....

You can play SuperGNES in landscape with the d-pad and the buttons at diagonally opposite corners and play pretty much without issues. I'm able to do running jumps in Super Mario World. I don't know why SuperGNES and Snesoid both do not have LR button capabilities, but I'm no designer. I haven't tried other emulators.

Why is everyone so fixed on the multi-touch? Seriously. Let's face the facts for a second. Besides playing console-ported games with 2 controls on left and right of the screen, there is no other place where you need that.
Fact: pinch-to-zoom works flawlessly (as in "without any issues") everywhere you need it - maps, browser, gallery. If it doesn't for you - talk to your doctor about fixing your hand coordination. Where else do you need multitouch in the real world? Nowhere.
Besides, we need to stop being hipocritical. We found ONE problem with Nexus that still remains and we freak out. I cannot even start listing the difficiences of other "SUPERPHONES" like iPhone. They can't do **** in comparison. Yet I don't see so much hate and dissapointment over their devices as we have here. Think about it. Apple fanboys are actually less hipocritical about their devices, albeit somewhat ignorant. Yet they can appreciate their devices and value them for things they can do, and we, informed and educated, hate our devices (far more advanced) for tiny flaws. So who's better off here?
The reason for my rant is for us to face the facts and be just. No device is perfect, humans created it, and we are not perfect. Everything has flaws. I haven't tried other emulators.

so you CAN play NES emulators with no problem. i thought i read that you cant do this because of the stupid touch screen limitation. damn false info.

I disagree. I don't think I need to slap myself because I expect a 'superphone' to be able to handle more than two touch inputs reliably.

I disagree. You need to slap yourself.
If you don't think the phone is a good value, sell it on Ebay. You'll get the bulk of your money back and you can go whine about your expectations about your new phone elsewhere. *****ing about what it isn't/doesn't have is pointless.

The reason for my rant is for us to face the facts and be just. No device is perfect, humans created it, and we are not perfect. Everything has flaws. You cannot focus on one _insignificant_ flaw and forgo all the good stuff. I think you are undervaluing the intentions people have for their phones simply because they aren't yours. While I may not be as fanatical as some others have been, I'm going to take notice of the idea that my two year old iPhone 3G does something better than my new Nexus One because someone between HTC and Google decided that the touchpad sensor they chose was enough.
If the flaws of the phone were enough of a problem for me, I'd sell it on Craigslist and get something else. Just because they aren't that glaring for me doesn't mean I'm going to be ignorant of them, though.
Also, it's been well documented that the touch sensor on the N1 can misbehave in a variety of cases, even with just one touch. I've personally experienced this. Touches refuse to accurately register until you turn off the screen and turn it back on sometimes. Play around with the multitouch application for a while and you more than likely will see some anomalies.
I think I stand somewhere in the middle of 'This phone is perfect, why complainomg' and 'This phone is broken and flawedomg'.
It's hard to make the argument you're trying to make about no phone being perfect when phones like the Evo 4G and the Droid Incredible are basically the same phone except they didn't get cheap touch sensors. I'd wager to guess they'll be around the same price as the N1 as well, if not cheaper also.
I'll agree that some people take their complaints too far, but you almost make it sound like people should have nothing to complain about at all, which I disagree with.
I'm lovin it

The one on tmonews was also posted before this one.
I can't post links but if you go to

upcoming phones
The last two pages of Samsung Vibrant A Galaxy S Phone Coming July 15th
It's on both I think
Yea I see it and I believe they are the same person or this person stole the pic
It's all a tease until I get one of my own. I just talked to a clerk at a TMo store and she said they have the phones in store, but can't sell them till the 15th.
TEASE!!
samsung held training events for tmobile reps and gave them one to use on the sales floor.
Congrats!
Do you find the no notification LED an issue?

Ok guys yeah that was me posting on tmonews. I just put up my impressions of the phone so far and since I cant link I'll cut and paste here. No I'm not a Tmo store employee, I bought the phone from chinatown where they dont care about rules, just shady and greedy..Plus Im super impatient so I'm always down to get the phone early even if I go through those sorts of channels. Anyways, here is my impression so far:
Ok guys heres my 2 cents after having used the phone for 2 days now. As you know, I posted here and on XDA 2 days ago with a pic bragging that I got it early...I absolutely love it. The display is gorgeous, the phone is super fast with no lag experienced so far, the touchwiz UI is neat and other than the iphone style app drawer and notification bar you hardly notice it, and 16 geebees of internal memory means you can just download and add apps to your hearts desire without worrying about placing it on a sim card.
Im a first time Droid user, long time Blackberry guy, and for the past 2 months I've been debating between the Droid X and the Vibrant (in fact I'm first on the list at the local Best Buy for a DX but I obviously am not getting it anymore). I've done more research on these 2 phones than anyone can imagine. Im not really a super phone tech guy so I cant speak much to that, I'm more of a cool-gadgety feature, display, looks and feel kinda guy. I dont post anywhere really but I have followed this phone pretty much all over the web. So, I basically was deciding up to the last minute between the two but im impatient as hell so when i had the chance to get the Vibrant early I did. I do not regret my decision especially after now hearing that the DX cant be rooted.
My reasons for loving this phone: 1) Super Amoled...yeah baby, eye popping colors and unreal contrast ratio for super dark blacks...lives up to the name "vibrant" in that regard; 2) Ive been on a Tmo family plan and their service in LA is good and it would have cost me significantly more per month on Verizon; and 3) after having had the HD2 for 2 weeks and returning it (4.3), and having played extensively with my buddies Iphone4 (3.7), I have come to the conclusion that the Galaxy is the PERFECT size at 4.0. Large screen, yet pocket and hand friendly. (the thing that turned me off most about the DX was how it looked pressed up next to one's ear while talking....like a friggin Powermat lol!..
I havent played much with the camera or HD video recording nor have i tried the video out so dont ask, just lack of time.
I have some gripes so far: 1) I dont see an easy way to place the phone on vibrate mode. If i hit "silent" in the notification bar, it silences the phone, simple enough, hit it again, back to sound on...okay, but i want it to shake when its silent and to do this it seems you have to enter the Settings / Sounds and Display / check on vibrate....not user friendly, maybe there is an easier way i just dont know about or an app that will take care of it. Either way I think this is a touchwiz prob and not a 2.1 - Eclair prob. 2) When I am on a call that requires me to use the dial pad to enter digits, its annoying b/c the phone screen will go dark after only moments when you are on a call. To get the phone screen to show again (and hence the dial pad), you have press the lock/screen lock button on the right side and it isnt very responsive. After pressing a number to get to the next part of the menu, it goes dark again before I want it to, and the ordeal starts over....very annoying. This was when i used it in a phone/holder in my car. It seems that when you are carrying it around, seemingly tilting the axis makes the screen show again...Weird...sorry for my long winded explanation. Im typing this is a hurry, and i dont really care.
Avatar is cool but the characters look a lot more CG than they do in the theatre/blu ray where they look human. Transformers 1 and 2 i copied from the HD2 when i had it played beautifully. Compared to the movie playback with the HD2, the Galaxy was so much smoother. You could control the position of the movie along that little bar with much more precision and the load time was also noticeably faster.
Still getting used to having to "kill" off apps which is weird but the Task Killer "X" widget is a godsend. (im ocd so i gotta kill it all off if im not using it...hey its battery life right?)
Oh yeah, can anybody tell me why when Im seemingly doing nothing or just using 1 or 2 apps, the task killer when i go to kill apps shows that other apps i didnt even touch are running? Like slacker radio, etc...just random **** appears to be running sometimes. Like i wont be doing anything then Ill press the kill shortcut/widget thing and itll say 4 apps killed. Huh? i wasnt just using 4 apps....is this normal? Like background updates or something?
I've got mine already too, it is FAST, the GPS has no issues, locks faster then my G1, the bottom buttons seem to be the only touchy issue but I think Samsung did it on purpose so you don't keep accidently hitting the buttons and activating them.
Okay, so I have had the arc for a week now and am absolutely loving it, but I feel the itch once again to switch to something new...
I am considering the Samsung Infuse 4G. Question, in-case anyone is in the same boat as me and/or has experienced the infuse 4G or SGSII.
How does our reality display compare to the super amoled plus display?
Reasons I am considering a switch:
No custom rom support to satisfy my flashing addiction.... as of yet!
No search button, I wish the menu long press would act as search and not keyboard popup. (Work around I figured out is to map the focus button to the search function) but then I loose the focus button which also bothers me
No offence but thats pretty ridiculous....only after a week!?? Especially for the reasons you listed. hell I at least wait a couple months...

Reality display has genuine real world colors. AMOLED is either love or hate and it all depends on personal preferences. I have over saturated unnatural colors. One of the main reason I sold my SGII afer couple of days of use. Also, the beauty of Arc and SE interface is very much in line with my personal taste. Also, I didn't like how GSII felt in my hand and it looks ugly to me. I read in one of the reviews that Infuse has great build. Looking forward to checking it out on 15th even though I am sure I won't buy it.

Long press brings up like you said the keyboard which actually works pretty good when you are in contacts and some other screens where the cursor is already in text field.
if you long press to bring up the keyboard if you start typing wont it instantly start searching?

On the homepage, long press of the menu hard key button will bring the search function.
My god, the phone's been out a month and youre complaining about lack of custom roms? This stuff takes time you know, it wont be any different on the infuse if you buy that. Have patience.
And, as others have said, go to home screen, long press on the menu brings up the keyboard, start typing and it goes straight to search!

I think rumy got it by now. But thanks for the hint, I didn't know that either. What happens if I uninstall Google Search? Has anyone tried this?
@rumy:
It all depends on your financial situation, I would say! If you're addicted to switching your phone every week and you can afford it, that's fine with me. It's completely irrational, but if you have fun with it... ^^
Hahaha thanks all, btw I was not complaining about no custom roms, I was just sharing my impatientness towards the wait
Anyways, applications like winamp needs the dedicated search, if not it can get bothersome to actually search for a song. Does any one know how easy it would be to modify the long-press function of a key?
Also, @kitsVA I really do like how the arc fits in my hand, and the look on others faces when they feel how light and sexy this phone is
Listen OP im not flaming you as I too have gone through this, but you know how I overcame it? You just have to put everything into perspective, you can browse the web, watch vids on a magnificent 4.2" screen, you can listen to your music, take amazing photos with one of the best camera sensors on a phone, play games, apps etc, what CANT you do on this phone? It is a nice lightweight, unique looking phone, It runs well, it does everything its supposed to do and more! At the end of the day you have to realize that no phone and I mean NO phone on the planet is going to be perfect, every single phone you will ever buy will have imperfections, but guess what? Thats life, nothing in this world is perfect. So these little flaws that you keep finding in phones (like I did) guess what? Yea you can sell it, but the next phone you buy might fix those little problems but will bring 2 or three more, its a never ending cycle.
Another thing is that no matter what you are never gonna be "up to date" for more then a year, unless you plan on changing phones every 6 months then whats the point? Do you REALLY need that Dual Core? Do you REALLY need that slightly RAM? Slightly better Screen? Why not just wait until something that is REALLY a step up from what you have comes out and then you get it, not only will it be cheaper for you in the long run but it will be much more satisfying. Try to focus on other more important things in your life rather then just your phone, yeah its nice to have an expensive fully featured phone, go for it! Thats why I spend $600 on the arc!! But make sure you keep it for a while and get your moneys worth or else whats the point!? No ones gonna care what kind of phone you have or much less what specs are inside it! Most casual people have either a blackberry (which doesn't even come close spec/feature wise) or and iPhone, or a regular dumb phone or some carrier android phone, so chances are if you have some super high end phone like these they will be impressed regardless, either that or they plain wont care!
Everyone has different needs and wants but at the end of the day really sit down and think about what you NEED and what you WANT, cause most have a hard time separating the two. Right now my Arc will do everything I want and need plus more! I have no reason to upgrade for a while....
Just my opinion from someone who was in a similar situation as you, hope it helps.
The big monster is here. Everybody is like "What the F is that?!", "Why are you making calls with your Kindle?!", "I don't think you have enough face for that phone"... Even my girlfriend says, "This phone is not for the mentally challenged like me, I'll stick with my iPhone..."
Anyways, every day (for a pair of days now) is showing me something new. I'm having a blast with my new toy and don't mind to brag when I'm given the chance.
I've had android tablets before, but this is my first Android Phone. I chose something very big to take my virginity, what a smart guy I am... I have two issues tho:
1. I can hardly hear my notifications. Volume is all the way up and still I can hardly hear when a text message/chaton/gtalk/email comes in.
2. I cannot choose custom ringtones for notifications. I'm stuck with those Sammy provides
3. I cannot assign a custom ringtone for text messages for each contact. Text messages are a very common thing here so I'd like to know who's texting me by the sound
4.S Suggest and Sammy Apps are not working for me. It says that my country is not supported. Funny, as I'm able to use it on my Samsung Note 10.1 without any issue.
5 Battery is not that great. I guess big screen has a cost. However, I notice that the standby de-charge rate is really sucky. I clear all running apps in the night, turn off wifi, and have the phone run on mobile data only and by morning it will go from 100% to 90%.
6. Pen is a bit too sensitive. It has one of those ghost touches many have been complaining about. I messed around with the potentiometer and that seemed to have helped a bit, but there are still there every now and again.
7. I wish there was a gesture or pen command to go to home screen. My home button is kinda slow sometimes.
But other than that, it's all good...

I think the whole tablet against the face thingy is getting old seriously. It's not even that big.
OP, are you a 120lb Emo kid in skinny jeans?

Who cares, honestly. lol
I have been telling my family and closest friends that I am getting this phone, and telling them how big it is. I put my 10.1 tablet up to my face as a joke all the time since they rag on me about the Note 2 size.

you can set custom ringtones. you can pretty much do anything that you want. you need to turn off the screen transition animation. it will makes the home button much faster. you are free to do what you want and how you want! just look around and search. you'll find answers for everything. good to see you joined the "dark" side and not the "sheep" side
You can also use ringdroid off the play store. After you create the ringtone it gives you the option to save as notification, call tone,.alarm ect
