HD2 Contact thumbnail resolution/quality - HD2 General

Hi
is there any way to improve contact photo quality?
I can set up a photo to contact and it is ok.
But if i will call this person, then im seeing a very poor picture, bad quality and so on. Am i able to do sth about it?
Because when i will select "People Tab" then im also seeing pictures, and they are OK.
Thanks in advance.

x 1 for that request.

Same here, I've been trying some registry tweaks to improve this but no luck so far.

+1. Thought there would be a simple registry tweak for this but havent found one. I searched pretty throughly for the keywords on here as well. No dice. It does make the pictures, particularly facebook pictures, look extremely grainy when shown in the call menu.
Good luck to whoever takes this on.

one great tip there

Hey,
I was tipped onto this by dzukela.
I would love to try to help. It seems to be a really simple app I could make.
There is but ONE issue.
I have been working of my FFP_LockScreen application (v2.0, C++ core) for over 2 months now. It is a real hassle to develop for phones I don't have. I have an HTC Excalibur. Non-touch, slow, etc. FFP_LS was a great challenge because errors I got on my phone were non-existant on WinMoPro, and vice versa. It really got me fed up.
I would love to do this, but it may require time, because I can't physically be there and see any issues that may occur.
Unforuntately, also, I have a list of 6 apps, which is growing. And my priorities are set on apps that I have had the ideas for, which I think will benefit the community a great deal.
The following statement is in no way a plea, or a way to make money, or anything, but as it has been since my first day of Development here, if you want your priority pushed up, try Donating...If there is money on the line for an app, I am not going to take the money and walk, I will come thru on the commitment. (Donation link in my Signature).
But yeah, making this app would help me learn POOM, and would help you guys, so just know it has made my list.

Should I carry on with Touch-Innovation

Hey,
Some of you may know the website: www.touch-innovation.com
I'm not going to advertise it's features - because that's not what I'm here for.
I'm basically wondering if anyone still uses it, or would still use it. And whether it warrants mine and others time to get it running properly again.
I've neglected it the past few months, mainly because of my work, i'm only 16 and my GCSE's are a month or 2 away. So it's a big time.
I think I can get it going again, make it more popular, get more programs etc. But only if people will use it. So do you think it's worth my valuable time at the moment?
And if there's anyone willing to help out, if you think it's worth it, now the time is to ask.
Thanks guys
Wonderful effort esspecially considering your age and other commitments.
I personally believe if you can do it and get high grades then do, but remember your GCSEs are very important university's and colleges will look at them and even more so employers. So be wise .
I'm in uni so I talking from my own experience know how important GCSEs can be to "success" then and "success" later.
Hey Napbree
It is a wonderful site and you can find all finger touch applications for PPC. I think that you should continue with the site and if you need any help in maintaining "Count Me In"
Well, i keep visiting it every week because it has good info.
Cheers mate.

exactly....the GCSEs are definitely what should be more important for you right now, whether that means to take a break from the site or to shut it down completely for the time being.....
Education should definately be the prioriy. But i also think you should try to keep the site going and let us help you in anyway we can. Ill start adding and updating software today. Maybe getting a few more people on board would help us out also?. Touch innovation has come along way, and it would be great to see it continually get better. But again, your future comes first. Thanks for letting me help on your site N.
dschoenike (Derek)
This is a Dev Related forum and this thread doesent belong here
(joking..) i agree with them, Studies first, later you'll have all the time for this
I agree with the rest. I'm in college right now and I can tell you, you will need good marks especially if your going to an institute. You've made a great site at an age that not many people (myself included) would even try to create much less maintain. School comes first though and trust me getting good on those GCSEs will help you immensely.
Im not sure of whats all involved with maintaning a website technically-wise, but could you like, put someone else in charge of it while you're taking care of more important priorities? My apologies for a probably silly question, but im just trying to help ya figure out keeping touch innovation going. Love that site
dschoenike
is tha site gone ? im geting: " Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '?' in /home/.axle/brennn/mobile.touch-innovation.com/index.php on line 1358 " When trying to access... dont think iv ever been to tha site.. will keep an eye out 2 see if it comes back..
Lol, the site works mate.. and its a very good site mind you, its just a little clustered like this forum on occasions and just needs some more organisation but none the less its definitely worth while if you can get each developer to post there apps there.
Also.. when did this forum become boredofstudies.org? O_O
Sorry for the mobile.touch-innovation.com, my error. Fixed now.
I think i've decided that because of all the work i've put into the site (site is coded from base up, not based upon anything.) and that I had already started another beta (where the design was re-hauled, and a load of new features + orginisation filters etc) that I am going to carry it on, but not let it take priority. So when I have 5-10 mins, I'll just code some more, or optimise it etc. After I;ve finished all of my c/w of course.
Any suggestions, and anyone looking to help out, post in here, and I'll get to you at some point. I;m off to bed, night

shouldn't GCSE be year end, or is it not?
Regardless, I agree with the rest, that your studies is more important at this point. It's always good to venture into something you like, above studies, but when it comes to examination like GCSE, you just have to priortise them accordingly.
The thing is, windows mobile plan to release a online store for all win mobile applications, so that means my little revenue will drop even more. And my laptop has now broke.. Not good.
Site is not working anymore, so was the decision to focus on education made and the site shut down?
Ceger

Just upgraded, what's first?

As said, I'm expecting my HD2 tomorrrow and was just going to leave it boxed and sell it to buy a Nokia N900, however.......
The more i read, the more I'm intrigued!
What would you suggest are absolute essentials to get the best out of the phone? I gather all windows mobile apps are downloadable and able to put on the phone?
How about unlocking, easy enough? (Will be coming on O2 UK)
What's your top 5 things to do?
I'm coming from from the Iphone side, and have been jailbreaking etc for quite a while!
First I would just take your time getting to know the phone and to work with it. Read the manual end to end (you would be surprised how many people don't, then come on here asking where the On/Off switch is!!).
Once you have played around with it for a week at your leisure then start to read the threads on here. Start with this one.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 which gives you some useful hint that you could try.
Next search around for similar threads to yours on here which have asked exactly the same questions as you have and see what the responses are. Searching on XDA is a bit hit and miss so use this...http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all to help you.
You will always get help if you let people know what you have done to help yourself first, what searches you have done , before you post a new thread.
This device is quite different to an iphone so DO take your time getting used to it. The beauty of winmobile is that you can change almost anything on it you don't like. Also the device is more akin to a mini laptop than a phone so bear that in mind.
Finally you may find this of interest...http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/
Appstores don't exist in the windows world; however there are thousands of apps out there, a lot of them free and a lot here on XDA (make a contribution to the developers if you use anything on here although you are not obliged to do so).
Good luck with your device; enjoy and welcome aboard!
WB
What a warm welcome and fantasic reply WB, thank you
I don't want to get infractions by talking about things i shouldn't be (i.e. cracked apps etc) but I'm assuming that should a user wish to go down that route then it's perfectly possible?!
I guess I might have a play with it when i get it, see whats what!
It is a beast of a monster though!
Absolutely NO talk of cracked apps or warez is allowed here. Quickest way to get your backend kicked.
There are enough bona fide free apps out there to do what you want. Besides warez is a kick in the teeth of hard working developers on here.
If you need any further info, just shout.

Root ROMS....Comparision guide?

I have experimented with quite a few different ROM's, and have enjoyed trying them all out.
Just wanted to post a thought out there, and see if this would be worth pursuing or if something like this exists...
A table that compares the ROMs, version, refresh date, developers, features, additional software, bugs, etc, so folks can compare the different ROMs on one page.
Link the name of the ROM to its actual thread.
Just a thought I wanted to throw out there......
Thanks,
-Sf-
The closest thing that we have is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649705
But, it doesn't lay it out all that clearly without having to go to each thread and read through. Also, it is about 5 weeks since it was last updated, and we all know how much has been done in the last few weeks (especially Froyo...).
I think this is a pretty good idea. If you want to do something like this, I'd be willing to lend a hand. I am on vacation this week so have a lot of free time anyway.
I think that we could build on that format -
Add major features, bugs, developer name, etc.
Thanks,
-Sf-
It's easier to just link to all of them... you can take the time to go through the Dev's home page. After all, that leaves it up to the topic creator to update every single ROM's bugs and updates, which you can't expect them to do.
Sure, it would be easier to do that...for the posters. But, I feel that the people wanting to check out the roms would appreciate a nice overview of features and bugs then having to wade through some of the toics which can be dozens of pages, if not more. I'll probably start working on this tomorrow, since I've been spending the day figuring out why my parents computer sucks so bad. Found it - 256MB of RAM. ugh lol
this IS a great idea...would be very hard to keep it up to date and what happens if the one guy that posted the topic falls off the face of the earth? as a lot of people seem to do.
not trying to stop it before it begins. i'm willing to comb a topic or two and submit my findings...gonna need a bunch of volunteers to do the same to get multiple ROMs listed.

Agreed - I have seen lists on other websites, and they still show evil eris 1.1 as the most up to date. However, that being said, we are the most active android forum out there, especially for the Eris. I think this has the best shot in being the most accurate on the web.
We already have a comparison guide.
Its called xda-developers.com!
Lazy...lazy...lazy....
Just read! Its the best way to fully understand the ROM anyways. Way better than a spreadsheet with checkmarks and whatnot.
But if someone was willing to take the time, which would undoubtedly take A LOT of time, to list pros, cons, features, bugs, versions, updates, and all that jazz, it MAY be worth looking. But we've seen stuff like this before, it gets created, and then never looked at again.
Great idea! Yes people are lazy for not doing their own homework...but there are so many ROMs out there. I have read through almost every page of topics to the 4 or 5 ROMs I have interest in, and often find myself confusing features, bugs, etc of those ROMs simply because there are SO many pages to read through and so much to keep up with(especially when some of these topics are in excess of 200 pages). Among these 200+ pages are maybe 25 pages really worth any knowledge of having about the ROM...the other 175 are filled with redundant information, outdated problems that have been solved, and off topic or unrelated posts.
DO IT!
I was kinda thinking about creating a guide on my website since I can't really think of anything else to do with the domain/server I have lol...
or if someone else wants to, I can give them FTP access to a folder and I'll just host it.
Just an idea.

Yeah... but what happens if you stop updating? And how will you determine whether bugs are just one persons or all of theirs? And almost every ROM page I've seen has the bugs listed on the first post. I'm just saying the current system isn't just "ok" it's the best way to do it. You don't have to read through the entire thread to know the bugs, you can read the first post.
Well, it looks like interest in this idea is underwhelming at best. I'd be all about putting some time into this, but not for 3 people...
Sounds good to me!
This sounds like a great idea to me. I'll admit it would probably take a great about of effort and time to create and maintain but I'd be more than willing to lend my efforts to put something like this together and help keep it up to date. For all of you who are happy with the current system, it will still be there so keep using it. I don't think this is meant to be a complete list of everything there is to know about a ROM, more of an overview (correct me if im wrong). Plus, this would be GREAT for people who've just rooted and are trying to figure out what to try first. We all know its important to read a thread in its entirety before you flash

I agree - this list should be an "easy" way to glance over the different ROMs, and do a high level comparison. So if someone prefer's hero ports for example, they can go to the developer's page to determine if that ROM is right for them.
Just like when you research out a new computer, I usually do a high level comparison at first before I start digging into the "nuts and bolts"
I don't think it's a bad idea necessarily, I don't mean to crap all over it but here is what would need to happen:
The poster of the thread would need to understand bugs and things that have to do with the ROM's. They would need to be able to differentiate between one person's bug and a bug that multiple people are having and one that everyone is having.
The poster would need to stay updating this... what happens when they get a new phone? What happens if their computer breaks? Blah blah blah there are a thousand ways you can stop.
Really what you need is a Wiki, that way multiple people could update the information. Developers could submit their own ROM updates if they wanted and users could add reviews, comments etc.

I'm primarily a web designer but know Rails as well, and a bit of PHP. I'd be willing to put some work into this, but I don't have time to do the whole thing on my own.
I'm thinking of a community-powered web app. Any registered user can edit anything. Edits can be "dugg" by other members to represent validity...I dunno, just some first thoughts.
I made the project page so that people could add ideas/etc and there would be an organized, sane place for figuring out how the whole thing would work, as well as a central repository for any work that actually gets done. It also just doesn't make a lot of sense to use a thread to do this, especially when we're trying to get around people using threads to do this.

Much better ideas because it's not just one person's job.
Man, I guess I'm one of the lazy ones! Actually, I've been looking through all the ROMs in lust (because I can't root - yet) and I need an easy way to figure out what the main differences are. I'd be in large favor of this!

new incredible user w/ skinning background

hi all,
in a few days (waiting for wirefly shipping), i'll be an incredible owner. i've done quite a bit of research on the phone up to this point, including coming across this forum and seeing that it was among the most active and informative on the net.
i have an extensive windows skinning/modding background, having been active in the scene for almost 10 years now. i am a moderator at the now mostly defunct customize.org and also at the newer, more active pixelfuckers.org, a site that was started by some of the elite desktop modders in the world as a playground and showcase for our work. my windows screenshots and skins have been very well received by the community and have even won a few contests. i've even had a couple of shots featured on lifehacker.com. i also have a good deal of graphic design and photography/post processing experience.
what i'm getting at here is that i will most certainly be looking to mod the living hell out of my incredible when it finally arrives and i'm looking for the best way to do so. i know of apps like launcher pro and adw launcher and will certainly be utilizing them. i'm also familiar with some of the roms that are available, like cyanogen, and roughly what extra capabilities they give the user as far as customization goes. lastly, i've browsed the incredible screenshot thread and have seen
my questions are as follows :
can i do a fair amount of visual customization without rooting?
what are some free apps that are skinnable and help in visual customization?
thanks in advance everyone.
as a final thought for now, i intend to start making android-sized versions of my popular desktop wallpaper series, 'photowalls', so keep a look out for those in the near future. if you'd like links to any of my work (being a new user, i can't put them in this post), don't hesitate to ask.
You might want to check out this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761517
Definitely use Launcher Pro, you can choose what icons to use for applications you place on your homescreens, as well as hide apps in the app drawer.
You can also use BetterCut or Folder Organizer to change the icons on folders, all without root.
I'm not sure if you can get access to /system/app without rooting (I'm pretty sure you can't), but if it turns out you can, you can use ADB to replace the apk's with modified ones posted on this forum.
As far as skinnable widgets, I know Beautiful Widgets has a lot of skins available for it, but beyond that I haven't really looked. Hope this helps.
Welcome to the forums. Can't wait to see your work. Rooting is easy. Lots of roms. Great community. Glad to see you here.

thanks for the tips zoon, i'll check that thread out some time.
as far as the wallpapers go, i know the formula for resolution is 1x height and 2x width, making the dinc one 960x800. is there another resolution that's overly common that i should include in the packs? i'll probably throw an iphone-sized one in there too, just to maximize the number of downloads.
also, if anyone out there is looking to collab on a theme/widget design (you do the coding, i do the graphics), i'd definitely be up for it.
I will take you up on that sometime in the future if you don't mind. Im still getting the video cam and bluetooth working. But after that i was going to start themeing/modding.

[Q] Profile Manager

I am not sure if this should be here or general Android forum (so feel free to move) but since I am using an ATRIX figured I would start here
Anyway... for years I have used phoneAlarm http://www.pocketmax.net/phonealarm.html on WinMo devices, and now that I have switched to Android I am seriously missing this app and by missing I mean I am hating life, especially when my email alerts in the middle of the night and my wife gives me a hard time all day!
Anyway... the developer over there is working on an Android beta but it is pretty early stage. I have been playing around with a couple that I found and the best I have seen so far is PhoneWeaver... but I really don't like the way it works.
Any suggestions on alternatives?
there are lots of apps that can so what you are looking for. a free and simple one is profile valet.
a more complex and paid one is tasker.
hope these help, there are a few more I can't think of off the top of my head but should be easy to find . sorry i can't post links to them yet since I am a new poster

Profile valet did not seem to support a critical functionality for me... detecting when calender shows busy (i.e. in a meeting) turning to silent, and then turnign back on at the end.
Tasker is definitely interesting... I played with it a little bit and as powerful as it is was hoping for something a little "easier" that did not involve me creating everything. Reminds me of MortScript for WinMo... incredibly powerful but I am too lazy to write scripts!
