[Req] Extract 4g keyboard - EVO 4G General

Was wondering if some dev is able to extract the apk for this keyboard (the HTC one with the arrows on the bottom) all other versions are missing the arrows.
http://www.viddler.com/explore/engadget/videos/1247/6.5
the video says its off this phone, I'm using a droid right now so this keyboard would solve a lot of spell correction problems on droid an any other device without a trackball
searched everywhere but can't seem to find it
Edit:
I attached the files for the keyboard but they won't install on a generic 2.1 rom, anyone know how to port a keyboard?

You do realize that the gold square on the DROID keyboard functions as arrow keys, right?

Gyrator 2 - But keyboard doesn't get bigger?

All:
I have been using Gyrator 2. So far so good. But if the keyboard doesn't increase in size when you rotate the screen I don't see a huge advantage other than reading text or email on wider screen.
With the iPhone, yes I said the bad word, when you rotate the screen your keyboard changes making it easier to type on. That's what I'm really looking for. Something that will change the keyboard to a more finger friendly keyboard when rotated to landscape. Anything out there that can do that?
Also, any way to shrink those huge black bars when you rotate the screen at the top and bottom? I was noticing the top title bar (black bar 1) and the bottom soft menu bar (black bar 2) are HUGE in landscape mode and take up way too much real estate. It would be nice if those screen disolved and only appeared if you tapped the header/footer in a screen. I hope that made sense. Anythign apps than can do that? Or am I wishing on star.
Make sure you're using the default HTC keyboard, not the WM original one. The HTC keyboard (called full QWERTY in the input picker) does change and fill the entire screen widthwise when the screen is rotated.
shueflie, I am. And you're right. It does fit the entire screen but for some reason it sure doesn't seem bigger. Maybe it's just me. I guess it has to be getting bigger...but for some reason it still seems like too many keys squeezed in.
Are there any replacement keyboards, say something like a standard letter only keyboard, and then you press something for numbers only, and then something for special characters only? My fingers are too big.
Try the phone keypad in portrait mode (either with or without T9) and see if that suits you better. There are other keyboards available but I haven't tired any of them
Will give it a shot. If you can direct me to a link with more keyboards I'd appreciate it, in the meantime I'll use the almighty search and see what I can dig up.

Plenty of keyboards out there. Do a quick search in Themes, Applications and Software and you'll find what your looking for!!!
EDIT:
May also want to check Wiki to ensure keyboard software works ok, Programs/Utilites & Games working on the Touch HD (1 - M) & Programs/Utilites working on the Touch HD (N - Z)
Wow an entire wiki, that's what I'm talkin' about. Thanks!

Not all software is shown on these lists. Best option is to do a search for keyboard in Themes, Applications and Software.
If your unsure about anything, refer to this and it should answer most questions you have!

stock htc evo keyboard port to epic

lol @ title i meant stock evo keyboard
is this possible?
id love the arrows since epic has no track pad or ball
or is there another keyboard with arrows?
Look up ultra keyboard, and find the ultra keyboard hero skin. Come back to me to see what you think B-)
Sent from my SPH-D700
its the hero kb but id like the evo kb cuz it has the arrows
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8180152&postcount=6
that one
Why would you have to port it isn't it an apk file?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
i cant find it
I don't think it will allow us to use until it is modded. I tried installing and it says it needs to be HTC device. I think this is the signing of the apk, hence where I state the devs are needed. I use IME Mod v27 from gimpsta.. long time since the N1.
What I really want is the Samsung Vibrant keyboard modded for our epics... Can anyone help with that one, a working version? Thanks.
Sent From The Moon...
I have it installed now but getting a lot of errors looking into missing files that come with sense its possible that its built into the framework
I'm desperately looking for this. Sucks opening up the keyboard just to use the arrows.
I agree, that would be great.. for now I'm using the swype key -> sym key and using those arrows. I've gotten pretty fast at it though
I guess none of you are listening.

Tried ultra keyboard with the skin but the keys are to small for me i wish you can adjust the width not just the height.
Da BigBoss Epic4G
ultra keyboard had no arrows
I have the most recent version of ultra keyboard and it has arrow keys. Maybe look around in the settings of your ultra kb there might be a toggle for the arrow keys. when I installed the hero theme it also showed arrow but i would guess that if you dont have arrows on the original ultra kb then you wont have them with a different theme.
edit: I just found an arrow toggle to try. Tap the top left icon it is of a keyboard it brings up a list of things one of them is show arrow keys.
edit2: screenshot is with the hero theme applied

Arc default keyboard

I did search but didn't get a clear picture
Sorry for the repost.
I want a keyboard where i can longpress the qwerty keys to type numbers instead of switching to number mode.
I saw both motorola milestone 2 and nexus S has such a keyboard. it seems it is part of the standard gingerbread keyboard.
Is it possible to enable this in the Arc or do I have to install 3rd party application?
Are there any recommended 3rd party apps for this?
There are so many keyboards availble in the market. Give it a try. Personnely I use Swype and it does more than what you need.
Check it out here.
Swype and SlideIt are good if u like the slide your finger to write. I highly recomend SwiftKey. After some days when it's learned your writing it's awesome and makes typing very fast
Smart Keyboard
I use this Keyboard from Android 2.3 and does the job
a good alternative keyboard is Thumb keyboard...I use it for my Dell Streak and I have used it on the arc also...if you select the 5' tablet option, ull get numbers directly without need to long press on letters or even switching to number mode..

thanks this is perfect.
Swype. Best there is.
The stock keyboard sucks. really badly. I personally just recommend the stock 2.3 gingerbread keyboard, has multi touch and i can type super fast with it. Its free on the market as well, just search for gingerbread keyboard.
TRY THESE TWO, THESE ARE BEST out there:
1. FLEXT9
2. PERFECT KEYBORAD (I am using this)
I use swiftkey keyboard, it does the longpress thing, and also has the option to switch to numeric keyboard.
what beats me is why they replaced the stock andriod gingerbread keyboard with the default one which is just not as good.

thanks for this bought the donate version
anyone notice the gingerbread keyboard in the market takes up more ram
Umlauts please
any recommendations for a keyboard which has umlauts in the layout (without long-press)
I'm speculating that all arch like mine have 3 keyboard by default, the default input, chinese and japanese keyboard.
to my suprise the chinese one had a few tricks on it. swipe to change querty <=> phone pad layout, long press, swipe down, smiley & symbol lock button, different landscape potrait layout.
down side: english chinese dict only, cannot use user word in phone pad with prediction on, don't think support multiple touch, vulnerable en/chinese button, prediction button use menu, not toggle.
definitely worth trying before investing keyboard app.
better keyboard works great

It is a great keyboard but the eats up quite a lot of memory...
I bought Swift even tough it has no umlauts in the layout. Fit's me very well except for that i still would prefer to have separate buttons for the umlauts.
I also tried "Smart Keyboard" which has äöü buttons but the completion is far from what swift does.
I also tried "Ultra Keyboard" looked nice but the one day trial was to short to decide if it is worth the money (especially as i already purchased swift at that time)
Currently I hope the upcoming Swift update will give us configurable layouts.
question re installing keypads
I tried installing the gingerbread keyboard mentioned above, but I cant get it to replace the arc kb. Do you have 2 b rooted?

[Q] Can we get stock's rom cursor moving method?

In se's stock rom you was able to scrol text left or right in order to move the cursor. It was realy easy for use... you didnt have to click somewhere and just hope to be the right spot... So can we get this cursor moving method not other custom roms too?
Any idea about this?
Froyobread have improved cursor handler and improved copy/paste from gingerbread so that could be solution. I mean, more easy to pick right spot.
I loved that too, only good thing on stock rom is keyboard

[Q] CM7 - issue when onscreen keyboard appears in portrait

(Would have posted in vanilla's thread, but I don't have permission to do so)
I have played with two CM7 ROMs.. the one that's been floating around for a while, and now vanillaLVL's.
In both, you can see the on-screen keyboard just below the list of suggested words.
To recreate
- Open Messaging and create a new SMS message
- Tap in the message box
- You'll see the OSK just below the suggestions. More precisely, you can see the bottom row of buttons.. like the ?123 and the Tab arrow
This isn't a big deal, just a little annoying. Is there a fix out there for this?
YES! Exactly! Somebody help with this problem. Personally, I'm annoyed when the keyboard comes out from the bottom of the screen.
Sorry for my english.

I have installed Swiftkey Flow and that bug isn-t there anymore, however, the problem now is that, whenever i want to use the physical keyboard, Swiftkey also appears taking more than half of the screen size :\
Would like to know if there-s a fix for this so Android keyboard doesn't appear when in portrait mode.
