Okay so in the internal T-Mobile myTouch Champion website a user
posted a thread like this to share information about which apps will
work to light up the LED for the myTouch Slide.
Free Applications:
LED Desire Light: This application allows you to alter the brightness of which the LED lights up in 5 different increments. It also has a text entry space of which the application will then turn into Morse code through the LED.
LED Light: This application isn't as bright as LED Desire, but it comes with a nice widget with similar styling to the default widgets of the phone. Although these widgets are not the same size.
Akari: This application has the same brightness as LED Light but with a very simple UI...just one large "On/Off" button. This application takes up practically NO space too. So if you want a light app...this is it.
BeamWidget: I really like this widget, it allows you to tweak the brightness and more closely resembles the default settings widgets but the icon is a TID BIT larger than the default settings widgets. I believe this one MAY be as bright as LED Desire Light. Download Here
Post here if you find more and I'll edit my original post to include your recommended application.
I use BeamWidgets, someone over in the Desire forum is developing it. Simple widget... You set the brightness when you add it, and it works wonders.
You can download it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=676328
LED Desire Light works gret on the slide. I love the fact that it offers brightness controls. I also use Flashlight, a market app that uses the screen for light. It allows for one-handed brightness controls and puts off good light if used in a smaller area.

After using all of these applications I definitely have to say that Beamwidgets has to be my personal favorite. The link in the OP will direct you to the dev's thread on XDA where he mentions to be launching other widgets soon which will also be very nice.
Its simple to use and very bright which is something that other similar widgets can't offer in terms of brightness.
Everyone should definitely check that link out.
thanks for sharing
One thing to remember is these LEDs were not realy meant to left on at full power for long periods of time. If you are not carefull they WILL burn out. Use wisely folks.
I will use this, but the only time I ever regularly use my phone as a light, is at night, when walking from my living room to my bedroom after all the lights have been shut off... so 10 seconds at a time shouldn't be a problem
Awesome! Nice to have, when you drop something in the dark. I set the power to about 75%, puts out pretty good light even in a well lit room at that setting.
Another one that I found is led light by picolyl. It works pretty good as well. Has a 1x1 widget. Tap for on, tap for off.

I want the Browswer to either,
1 - utilize the auto brightness function
2 - keep the brightness the same as what my setting is on
Is this that hard to do? why does the browser get it's own friggin brightness setting? At lease give us an option to take route 1 or route 2 on top of being able to change it.
Definitely something to think about in future roms.
And here is another example of why I despise auto brightness settings on screens. I like mine cranked all the way...except on my Sharp Aquos because that would lead to retinal bleeding at over 450nits
Just swipe from left to right along the notification bar to change the brightness to what you want.

i'd much prefer it automatically matching the brightness to the system setting. Hopefully, that will be fixed in the upcoming roms.
BTW, to increase screen brightness, turn Power Savings off in the Display settings. Doing this keeps the screen at 100% all the time --the browser and other apps will not dim the display anymore.

Very annoying. I have no idea why someone would do this. It makes no sense.

Same here, i don't need a very bright screen to browse
But having a auto for browser is basic setting in my mind though

But then you go outside and you can't see your screen because it's so low. This is specifically the reason it bugs me. I too love low brightness indoors but it sucks when you can't see the screen very well to turn it back up.
My only complaint is every page has to be white like a bright sheet of paper.
Back in the old days, computers had white text on black screens. Worked great at night or in dark rooms.

Also consume less battery with black background
Especially at night the screen of the phone is to bright for my opinion.
Is there any app to decrease the brightness of the screen?
Screenfilter
On market + free = Awesome
What a brilliant little app. That is exactly what I've, been looking for...
Superb!
The only remaining thing I'd like would be a way to turn the screen negative too, so that I can flip bright white web pages to being black background instead. Happy to have the distorted photo colours this would induce.
Although thinking laterally, the better way to solve this in the browser itself might be with local css style sheet over-ride, (if it was possible?).
The negative screen mode would still be useful to flip other bright white apps though. Of course ideally, the screen would be negative inverted as well as having this screen filter available too, so that you could convert background to black and still also reduce brightness of text.
Anyone know if such a feature exists, or could be created easily?
Thanks
Mike

SIlly mistake
You don't need an app, just run your finger left/right on the notification bar to increase/decrease brightness.

the minimum brightnes is still too strong in dark, therefore is screenfilter needed
Lowest you can get from the notification bar is down to 8%.
With a few different brightness widgets you can get down to 0%, which is still blindingly bright and not much darker than 8% to be honest... especially at night in a dark room!
This "screen filter" software lets you make the screen much darker than 0% by adding a grey lens over the whole screen for when you want it darker. It works really well.
Mike
Wow i didn know screenfilter exist. *Rushing to check it out*. Finally no more blinding light when in my bedroom.
ScreenFilter
don't set it all the way down lol
Is it possible to, like the small little notification led, make the smartphone's buttons (home, search, back and options(?)) (or even just one button, if the respective drivers allow it) stay on when there's a pending notification?
I saw this on a friend's LG 2X and he told me that was a customization made by someone in a custom ROM, so that wasn't a stock feature.
I think this will be, if it's doable, an awesome extra feature since the led is too much tiny to capt our attention to the pending notification and I imagine it's not very hard to implement.
Thanks in advance.
Well I am gonna point out that the small notification led we have is really cool RGB led. So you can have different colours depending on what it's going to notify about. Sad thing is as you stated it's pretty small and not visible at some points.
I would say the thing you wish for is up to the ones who customize roms. Ask them, head over to the development section.
Right. I'll post this in Dev section.
As long as we're talking about notification led, can someone tell me where to find full a description of light colors and meanings? The manual on the Huaweis own site isn't full/complete, 'coz it doesn't mention a blue color. I once got the led to flash blue, when Watchdog Lite "got a wiff" of an app that misbehaved and notified me about it. And it wasn't a one time event, since it did it with every Watchdog notification.

if the application can manage the led then you could see every possible colour if it is programmed for it...
for example through the handcent sms you can put whatever colour you want for the notification the programm handles...
so maybe with watchdog you can try it too...
they don't have special meanings the colours and they turn on to the colour they are programmed to from the company...
Is there a good app to set notification light color? Besides Light Flow (which changes the color but only blinks once or stays always on) or Blink (which asks for an internet access I don't want to grant due the usability settings, and thus haven't even tried)? Any way to change 'em manually?

Not sure whether I'm the only one but there are a few things that really bugging me with the OTA:
1) Auto-brightness now just always keeps me at the lowest brightness. I prefer the auto but not if its going to make my screen always dark.
2) The camera actually seems to take not as good pictures for some reason. Everything looks more washed out, especially in low light cases.
3) The default black background worked with all programs, and the white just doesn't. For example FPSE: when you are picking from a list of roms if the list doesn't go all the way to the bottom then where there are things to pick from its black and below it its white. Titanium Backup has the same thing below the list of schedules. It is frekin ugly and just doesn't look right like it did before.
4) The top bar icons just don't look as nice as the old ones.
5) Talking over the phone everyone sounds quiter and grainer

I've noticed that low light pictures suck now.
I'm not having the same low light picture issues.
Also, if some apps look bad because of the new theme, those app makers should fix their apps. If just one app inherits the new color-schemes, all apps can. Some programmers are not using "best practice" techniques in this case.
For example, they manually set the background color and font color, rather than inherit from the colors from the system. Should be a simple fix for them, if they care.

For those that don't mind using Bluetooth, I highly recommended the Motorola H720.
This headset isn't that expensive, and IMHO it greatly enhances the call quality on ALL of my Android phones.
I'm still on (Bell) Froyo, but the H720 might be worth a shot for anyone disappointed with call quality...

Since upgrading to official Gingerbread, my Gmail icon no longer shows up in the messaging app. Gmail still works, but when I go into messaging all other accounts are listed except my Gmail app account. Gmail was always listed in the messaging app in Froyo. My wife hasn't upgraded yet and Gmail list listed in messaging on her Atrix. Is anyone else having this issue?
Daneren, I agree the new color theme is horrible. The color and symbols on the notification bar really bad.
low light pic sucks!!! Colors seem a little cheap on the menu bar.

This is why I think Motorola should have put the new exposure setting onscreen instead of in the menu settings. That setting makes a huge difference in picture quality, and I have to adjust it way too much for it to be in menu setting.
I am disapointed with a few things also. Low light pics seem effected, I cant tether anymore, my quadrant standard score is 300-800 lower consistantly now, there is an annoying lag when I unlock with the slider, and I prefer the top bar icons with 2.2.2.

Have you tried a 3rd party app like Barnicle Tethering?...
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA Premium App
If you're rooted wifi tether for root seems to work fine for me.
I'd rather do that than manually dig around sql files and possibly bork something (as per the mod in the dev section).
As a formed N1 user I miss my vanilla android sometimes
To add to that
-home screen seems to be less responsive
- battery indicator inaccurate
Haven't tested a lot. Will take time to test all the options and features.
However the new keyboard seems to be an improvement though.

No bugs or issues here but new MOTOBLUR home looks and performs worse than its predecessor.
As far as picture and video quality I see no difference.

Should be on the album art, if that doesn't work... Idk.
thx doesn't work, over to winamp.
Would prefer stock (lockscreen features, less bloat/ram)
Car dock became atrocious. You now can only add 4 apps to it, the rest is either close button (two of that), and stupid music player functionalities (music player, internet radio, podcast player) or voice search.
I also have ran into the issue with the battery indicator.

If you are looking for a player that's close to the previous, give PlayerPro a try. (Has trial but not free)
If you want a free player with even less permissions used than Winamp, give Zimly a try.
I currently have both players on my phone...

hi all, looking for a rom for my N7 that can change the display to only display red for when i use sky safari on it while out stargazing. (red helps protect night vision) on my nexus one with CM7 it has render effects settings screen where you can change the color of the whole os to basic colors etc. any roms out for the N7 that can do this globally as well? and before you say it yes sky safari has this feature inside, problem is unlock screen does not as well as say accidentally hitting home etc. one bright flash of white light and you loose dark adaptation for 5-10 even 20 min so its kind of important and most people go the easy simple route of putting red cellophane on their screens, but if i can get around that and i know its possible to i would like to.

yeah sky safari has it, and it also has a setting to keep the device from sleeping because the problem is the lock screen and any other screen you might accidentally pull up will not be a dim red light and will instantly damage night vision if pulled up. anyways i rooted my N7 and took at look at a few roms and so far have not found one with this feature. looks like it was put into CM7 for the potential power savings due to the screen on the nexus one as well as many other phones being AMOLED. on tablets with LCD's theres no savings to be had so nobody's implemented it into a JB rom so far.
Tasker might do what you need. You make a profile to do things like dim screen brightness, change wallpapers, dim/kill LED notifications, etc. Set it to trigger when you open your Skymap app & your light sensor senses that it is dark (I don't know what that setting looks like).
This app has astronomers moder for the red tint.
