What phone do I have? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I have a t-mobile branded mytouch 3g, with the 3.5mm jack on top, so i assume that means it is the v1.2, and therefore a 32A. I have mesed around with different radios and spls and roms, and seem to have the same audio problem with most of them. Music app and keyboard sounds only play out the headphone jack. (this is on 32A, 3.22 roms, i haven't tried a 32B yet.)
fastboot currently reads:
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32B ENG S-OFF H

CPLD-13
RADIO-3.22.23.18

When stock it knew it was a 32A, and didn't say unknown. I'm not sure if that changed when I upgraded to a non perfected engineerings spl, or when i flashed the 3.22 radio. I really would like to know where I stand and what my device actually classifies as so I can flash the right things.

If you have a T-Mobile MT3G with the 3.5mm jack, you should have 1.2 software and 1.6 fw (Donut) OS.
There is a file you can use to get it back to stock before you messed around with everything. First off, are you sure that you have 32B?
Edit: Here is the link to help you un-root your device. http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-unroot-your-mytouch-3g/ or try this one http://www.4shared.com/file/-wzTZgdP/RUU_Sapphire_T-Mobile_US_21053.html

Thanks, I will try unrooting and starting over. And, no, I'm pretty sure i have 32A, because it has 288mb RAM. So, what I have, can not have radio 3.22? Or did i just flash the wrong radio? I guess I will explore this once i get back to unrooted stock.

if you go back to the stock ROM, it will put on the radio you should have. Mine is 2.232 or something. I would like to put a newer updated spl, I may do that soon.
Keep in mind however, you use these two methods, you will not be rooted any longer, and you will need to re-root your phone.
If you don't want to do that, you can try this: http://theunlockr.com/downloads/and...oms/t-mobile-mytouch-1-2-fender-mytouch-roms/

Downgraded from the perfect SPL, Cant Flash roms?

Im no noob to rooting flashing or hacking G1s (so im familiar with the process and know adb pretty well). MyTouch3g (32B) is new though and already bricked one doing this process previously.
Currently on my second one and want to get this right.
SPL was: 1.33.2006
Successfully downgraded to
1.33.2005
I can confirm I have root with the google Ion rom I am running.
My issue now is when I try to flash a new rom.
When I flash an update.zip it seems to install ok, but just sits on the my touch splash.
this is unless its an official rom, currently running Rom-RAv1.1.0H-signed-update.zip.
Can someone let me know if im missing something.
Had the same issue with the last one I bricked, trying to avoid a repeat.
Thanks
Fastboot Info
Figured I should post my fastboot info
By the way this was downgraded and rooted using the goldcard method.

New SPL for myTouch 1.2

So I've figured out that I've got the myTouch 1.2 (because I have the 3.5mm jack) and I'm currently running a ported version of SuperD 1.10.3 which is awesome. The issue I have is that I want to replace my splash screen, however, the only success I've had in getting my phone rooted and a custom ROM loaded was to load up a rooted SPL, flash AmonRA's 1.7.0G recovery, and then reflash my radio/SPL back to the original state. So, I don't want to have to load up one of the rooted SPL's and then go back every time I want to use ADB via Fastboot. What I was wondering is if there's any 32A SPL's with the 2.22 radio so that I wouldn't have to go back to the locked (perfected) SPL. Here's what I've got
FASTBOOT Specs:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON G

This is the wrong section. Should be in General (unless you're releasing a new engineering spl)
You need to use an engineering spl to modify your splash screen, flash the new splash screen, then flash your stock spl back. You might be able to continue to use the other engineering spl (1.33.2010) but you will lose half of your ram, headphone jack, etc.
Here's the engineering spl
Here is the stock spl
Alright, that's what I had been doing but wasn't sure if maybe there had been an engineering SPL put out that I could continuously use. The issue I've had is that whenever I load the engineering SPL, do whatever I need to, then go back to the original SPL, I can no longer boot into recovery. I end up having to reload the engineering SPL, flashing over the hboot and radio, and reflashing my recovery on. Is that right or is there an easier way.
About the wrong section, I though about that a few minutes ago, sorry for posting in the wrong one. I'll remember that for next time.
What I've been able to do is just flash the 2010 Engineering SPL, flash my new splash screen, then revert back to the normal SPL and everything works from there.

@Binary100100
How do I Flash ENG SPL and Flash back the Stock SPL? Is there a guide?
Also, how do I back up my own Stock SPL?
(wondering the one provided stock spl is the 1.33.0013)
thnx in advance.!

If you've got the myTouch 1.2 (with the 3.5mm jack) then you can use this guide following steps 1-8. What are you trying to do it for?

I want to Flash the FAT GREEN T-Mobile Splash screen into something else.
wow, thnx for the guide. but I need to make a GoldCard? is the the only way to flash the SPL? and flash it back?
Binary100100 posted the ENG SPL, and original SPL. What I am wondering is, what spl version is the original?
Can I just zip up the Original SPL, and rename it update.zip. and Flash it.
Will this work?
The original SPL will include the stock recovery which you don't want. That's why only the radio and bootloader are in that guide to be flashed back.

[Q] Custom ROM not working

I recently bought a second hand HTC Magic and flashed an engineering SPL(This booted ok). I have installed Amon Ra's recovery(Which seems to work fine) however it will not boot after installing a custom ROM (i have tried cyanogen 5 & 6 and yoshi's) it just hangs on the HTC Magic screen.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?
Something i noticed was that i used to have a G instead of a H, could this be it.
That radio requires 32A ROM's. If you flash CM ROM's, you need to also flash the appropriate EBI1 kernel from their download section.
Thanks for that info. I have now got cyanogen mod 6 installed.
Unfortunately I cant connect to the mobile network. when i bought the phone i expected it to be locked to Vodafone and expected it would ask me for an unlock code when i put in my Giffgaff sim. Does this mean it is unlocked? Giffgaff is on the O2 network so i have tried selecting that in the network operaters list, however it says that my sim does not allow a connection to this network. Also i tried a vodaphone and an orange sim out of some other peoples phones but they didnt work either.
Something seems wrong here.
The device says it's 32B, so is the SPL, but the radio is 32A.
Even on the MyTouch 1.2 the SPL would show 32A, correct?
Which I doubt this is because the UK is in the UK, and they're referring to it as a Vodafone Magic (note: in other countries Voda uses 32A Magics).
I think this is a 32B device w/ a 32A radio, which would explain the connection issues.
There was another thread about that radio being a 32A radio but it also works for 32B devices. He probably would be better off with another radio, but according to that thread it should still work.
EDIT: Here we go.

Ok - i tried to flash a new radio (2.22.23.02). I think ive bricked my phone as i cant go into fastboot anymore or recovery. it just sits on the HTC Magic screen
EDIT: is the only way out of this with jtag
Checking his ip address shows that he's from the UK which would make it a 32A device. His SPL said in the first post Eng S-OFF which means that he possibly flashed the wrong SPL but still had the correct radio. But this was possibly done during the rooting process because his phone didn't brick but he still experienced issues. I think that in this case the correct method would to have been to figure out what the right spl would have been (probably just use stock to be safe) and just flashed that. But now that he tried to use a 32B radio it sounds like he just finished bricking it.

Sounds about right, however the *only* carrier in the UK that sells the Magic is Vodafone, they use 32B devices (hence google branding and not HTC, lack of 3.5mm jack).
It was defiantly a 32B to start with and i am from the uk. I flashed an engineering sappimg as that was what was recomended to escape the perfected spl. Can u tell me if this is fully bricked?
I can get £30 at a mobile recycling site, will that be the best way out as i have none of the stuff needed for jtag (and it looks pretty hard).

[Q] Ginger Yoshi 1.0 RC7 & Rom Manager v4.0.0.2

I paid a guy on Craigslist to root my phone (to Android 2.2.1) for me and put a new mod on it like 2 months ago.
I don't like CyanogenMod's 6.1.0 lack of stability (most of the time it doesn't recognize external apps stored on the memory card (using Apps 2 SD) and most of the time apps don't get installed using Marketplace. I also hate the green tint.
I'd like to switch to Ginger Yoshi 1.0 RC7. I noticed I have this app on my phone called Rom Manager. Can I use it to install Ginger Yoshi ROM? If so how do I do it?
I have the HTC Magic 32A phone.
Sometimes Marketplace is able to update apps, sometimes not. Today I was able to update ROM Manager to 4.2.0.2.
Hello ablang. To install the Yoshi thingie ROM you must change the radio. Can you please boot into fastboot and type whatever information you see there? In order to boot to fastboot, power off your phone, hold the volume down button + power on.
Edit: I'd recommend you to install diet gingerbread. It's the pure Android system found on the new phones. Very stable, fast etc. But anyway, do tell us the info you see on fastboot loader.

Aha. You must change the hboot and the radio versions. First of all, I was in your position some days. I wanted to change the radio, things etc. You can do it, by using this program: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794450
Your hboot must be: 1.33.2010 or 1.33.2010
and your radio must be: 3.22(the old one)
Don't worry where to find those files though. The link I gave you, on which you will find the appropriate program to change those things, has the files you need.
Download it, and if you have a question, post here.

NO!! don't flash any radio or spl! give us ALL the fastboot info. and do you have a headphone jack(tmobile mytouch 3g 1.2)? if you do then flashing the 3.22 radio will likely cause a brick. i would suggest staying with the radio and spl that you have or if you want to, upgrade the radio to 2.22.28.25. anything else will have problems.
if you dont have a 1.2 and have a true 32a then idk what you need to do. wait for someone with a 32a to help. (but from the little info i saw you seem to have a 1.2)
Yeah guys I forgot to tell you that I do probably have the 1.2 version since it is white and has the 3.5mm headphone jack on top.
I tried to get as much of the fastboot info as possible but it moves so fast.

ok. so if you want a different rom (i would suggest ezgingerbread or cos-ds) just download it to your sdcard and boot into recovery (home + power) then install from there

You have a 3.5mm headphone jack, right?
If yes you have a 1.2 device
get 2.22.28.25 radio and spl is fine, dont change it. Goto the developer sub-forum on this forum and click for gingeryoshi 0.7 and get the kernel there or look for the MT3G Fender 1.2 2.6.35-12-test4-10M kernel. Get your rom and flash the radio first. Then flash the rom. then flash the kernel. Then reboot. Wait 15-20 min for first boot.
Hello ablang.
I got the same phone as you, same mod and same hboot info, except mine is black. Im going to try and throw yoshi on mine later tonight. If you still need help Ill try and help you out after I finish mine.

Hey all,
Just got a Fender Mytouch 3G 1.2, that has the OTA Froyo (superslow) Tmo update. Been Googling and searching. Just trying to find a) the best froyo or gingerbread rom and b) the easiest way to do it. Can I boot into recovery without clockworkmod and flash a zip? Any help or link greatly appreciated.

When I was first rooting it (about a month ago), I've had a huge problem with rooting through goldcard/sappimg, it always gave me "main version is older" error (was not a goldcard problem, as I've rooted 5 other mt3g's with it prior to this one. The only method for rooting that worked was the 1clickroot.
Anyways fast forward to now, I've tried to unroot it (or rather my friend did, with me guiding him over the phone) and something went wrong, now the phone is unrooted, but stuck in a bootloop. The problem is again, I cannot use the goldcard, none of the sappimg's I've tried worked, spits out the "main version is older" error and I have no way to do it through 1clickroot, as I'm restricted to bootloader with no root.
What are my options without returning the phone to tmo?
Your options are:
- RUU (Possible Solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=621415&highlight=ruu+32a )
- ADB Shell to flash a recovery (might not work)
Thanks for the reply, will try the RUU, as fastboot doesn't allow me root, "not allow" is all I get.
Question though, I see that RUU is radio 6.35, while mine is 2.22, won't that be a guaranteed brick? My phone is tmo branded, mytouch 1.2, 3.5mm jack.

Not necessarily unless that radio isn't compatible with your phone. So it may or may not be a guaranteed brick, but to be on the safe side. Research compatible radios with your phone, then keep a list of them and search this forum by going into the android development section for the MT3G and searching "RUU" and find one that is compatible with your phone.
Ok, tried the ruu, the magic one linked (model id mismatch) and tmo one (2.10.531.4, bootloader version error, error [140]).
My phone's image version: 3.56.531.1
