Is there any reg hack, cab, tweak, etc that would allow me to better control new email notifications without installing a third party app? I already tried something called Mail Notify (or something like that) but thought it was overkill for what I was trying to do.
Here is why I ask.
I have my work email through push mail and my personal gmail account set up on my phone. I only want to be notified when I have mail in my gmail account and not my work email. I literally get hundreds of msgs and automated reports emailed to my work account day and night and as a result, the new mail icon is constantly appearing on the top bar. I acknolwedge the new msgs and within a minute or two the icon is back. This is very annoying, since I can't tell when I get a personal email to my gmail account by just looking at the top bar.
If there isn't a way to do what I'm looking for above, is there a way atleast to turn off that new mail icon permanently. I already went to the Notification settings and turned off everything under "Messaging: New e-mail message".
Thanks for looking.
BTW, I have a T-Mobile HD2 runing NRG's GTX themed ROM incase that matters.
Try this app, haven't used it but it might work for you:

Thanks for responding. I'm looking for a reg edit or hack moreso than for a 3rd party app. Problem with 3rd party apps is that the need to be configured and constantly running in the background to work.

I've found the built-in app a bit lacking, and I really want to do is do be able to turn off and off the receiving of new messages - something that iPhone users can do by default. If I go out, I should be able to receive new mail - or not. It's my choice. Is there a mail client app to do this? I've added my email details, but it seems the only way stopping the receipt of emails is my the delete the whole account, and I'm not delete/re-setting my account all the time!

you can just turn off the internet !!!!
or there is a setting for manual update only
in settings, sync, disable automatic sync for gmail
You could use Setting Profiles or Tasker to do this. EDIT: there is also a Setting Profiles Lite
just set it to manual update, therefore so long as you dont open them ail client, it wont refresh?

have you tried looking in settings? lol
I'd like to know about other people's experiences with CM6 and Exchange. With the stock email app, I have noticed at times that at times it would start using a lot of cpu, and stop receiving emails. I did have "all email" sync, but these issues would happen randomly after all of my mailbox was downloaded; could this have anything to do with it? I would have to reboot my phone for email to start working again. After reading about people's experience in the CM6 thread I thought it might be appropriate to have an altogether separate thread. I did notice some users having similar issues, and that TouchDown is a good alternative.
So about 2 weeks ago, I started trying it. Problem is, when I go to add a contact (discovered this by long pressing a number to create a contact), it will let me create a "TouchDown contact", but only with names. I contacted touchdown support and they said that no other applications can have access to TouchDown data for "security". I did put in a feature request for an optional contacts integration, because my Aria is a work phone, and every contact I add I *need* synced. I did think about adding contacts to Google account, and then installing Google/Outlook sync on my work pc, but this seems too convoluted.
Has CM6 exchange improved in any of the nightly builds? If I choose to go back to the stock email app, is there any way that if I run into these issues again I can provide debugging information? The only thing I really liked about TouchDown was the search email feature, but this is in no way a feature request for the stock email app. xD
Why not ask in the cm6 thread instead of starting a new one?
I've been using stock exchange mail client since the beginning of CM6 on aria, haven't ran into any major issues with it. The only problem I have with it is that sometimes the deleted email on aria still show up on desktop outlook.

Just wanted to add that stock client does stop getting emails ( very rarely for me), instead of rebooting, I just forse close the app and restart it again.

For adding/syncing contacts (using touchdown for email) I added the exchange account (under stock email settings) and set it to never check mail, but still sync contacts and calendar. I am going to see if this combination with touchdown works, as the email app is required to run if syncing exchange contacts is to work at all. I hope don't run into the process hanging without email actually syncing. I'm still waiting this trial out to see if touchdown is worth it; they did add a new feature that shows the number of new emails in the notification icon (I don't recall if this is in the stock email app).
I have my Shift synced up with my work's Exchange server via the Mail app. For the most part everything works fine as I'm able to receive and send emails without much issue. However, when I try and access an email that has already been opened, I frequently find that a particular email is no longer showing up on my phone. My phone is set up to sync the past 14 days of emails and a fair amount of emails that were received well within that window sometimes won't show up. For instance, 13 of the 32 emails I received on July 5th (the last of the 14-day window) aren't on my phone but are accessible through my Outlook software of through OWA.
I tried searching online elsewhere and it seems this particular problem only affects HTC phones. Has anyone else experienced this or even better, has anyone found a solution?
I was having an issue with the HTC mail app not deleting messages from hotmail so they would keep coming back as new notifications to my phone which is apparently a known issue in the gingerbread release. To fix it I installed the stock android email app and didn't have any issues after that. Unfortunately, if you use a mail widget it will not work with any other mail app.
I used the Email.apk from the original post on the link below here and disabled notifications for the sense email app so I wouldn't get two for each email(I also may have deleted the stock email after awhile I don't remember):

My phone is rooted and at the time I was running the mikshifted g executive rom. I have no idea if you can install this .apk on a non-rooted device if you aren't rooted but you could try. You just download it and install it like any non-market app.
I'm using the gmail app right now, but I'm trying to switch over to the stock app to take advantage of the aod email notifications (for the time being anyway....). I'm not sure if i'm missing something or I'm the biggest noob around or what, but I can't seem to archive new gmail messages from the inbox or the stock email app. My options are swipe right: Move,Set Reminder,Unread,Reply ... swipe left: Delete. I noticed if I move messages, I have to select a folder to put them in. This marks then as read, however, I would like to simply archive my messages and have them appear in 'All Messages' without having a label attached to them. Is this possible and I'm totally missing something? Or is this just gonna happen? I realize this is more of a standard email client, but given the amount of gmail accounts out there, this is something I would expect would be available for a google email account. I will stick to the Gmail app for now, but would be nice to know, even just to get the oad notifications, thanks.
ps - I searched the forums first, but if I missed the answer already, sorry.
tldr: Archive in Samsung mail client ... where is it?
Don't think you are going to get it with the stock app. However, when Nougat rolls out for the S7 I am hoping the AOD will also update to show all notifications.

Albeit a little late to reply to you, but I ran into the same issue.
The answer basically is that in Gmail terms, archiving a message means removing all tags from it.
You can do this on the Samsung mail app by "moving" it to "all messages" folder...it sucks, I know
Well, I'm not 100% to your liking, but I did not use either both gmail or samsung mail. I switched to bluemail. If you want, you should try

It's the same as on iPhones I think, where a gmail account on their default email client app will go straight to delete.
Moreover, as Yahoo app does the same (I think), the outlier might actually be Gmail which doesn't let you delete, but only archive emails.
Hello. Please, when i double click in gmail notification in aod, i read email but if i reopen app, the email is yet unreaded. When i delete a email from gmail app, random sync with gmail web page... Is this a known bug??? I repaet, random, not always and i din't understand why... Can anyome help me? Thanks
Nobody uses Gmail???
This is not a problem with the S8 but with Android Nougat. Its also not only Gmail related its all notifications on nougat are broken The best way to get SOME notifications back is to go to settings/apps/hamburger menu/special access/optimize battery usage/ and uncheck EVERYTHING. Next step is to (with root) use the app "Root- Push Notification Fixer" and set intervals to lowest possible settings. You will still not get all of them but at least you will get some of them..
Another fix is to install nova launcher and teslaunread to show bubbles on your icons when you have new notifications for that app. I have mine setup for about 7 apps and I ALWAYS get the bubble hours or days before a notification ever comes in (if they ever do).
In order to fix the issue specifically with gmail I use a different email app. I use aquamail, but there are a few good ones out there. I don't have notification or synching issues. I don't use the email on the phone a lot, a few times a day. I found a great improvement over using gmail.
