Hey guys, I've recently updated to the leaked Froyo update and occured some problems. My phone worked fine the first couple days, but now for the last two my facebook app doesn't work. Ive tried whiping, reinstalling the update, clearing cache for the app, and re logging back into it. The error message I keep getting is:
"An error has occuried while fetching data. [null]"
I've never seen this kind of error before, and can't figure out how to fix it. Any ideas or suggestions? I had CM5.0.6 on before this if that info helps. If you need anything else from lemme know, caz I'm out of ideas
Same problem here. Noticed it today. Even at home with wifi connected, I get that same message on Facebook. Anyone have an idea why. Facebood worked for a couple of days after updating to froyo, then now nothng
i have stock nexus one. started happening to me yesterday
It's not your ROM or phone people having same problem on the hero

btw - tested facebook app on my xperia x10a. gets the SAME error. facebook app problem, probably.
It's definitely a problem with Facebook itself. Most likely due to the changes in privacy settings (again).
ya, wifes cliq has the same issue all day
Yea doesn't work on mine either as of later night...same. " null" error. Strangely, I loaded 'Blue' and it works fine

Wife says her iPhone won't even work, so Facebook screwed something in the API.. Probably making changes so random people have even more access to your information.
Not androids fault. Blame it on facebook. Its on their end.

lol couldnt have been said better ..i started having this too. it just started today..i can get notifications to load correctly and comment and what not,but when i go to neww posts people have put or try to write something on my wall then i get that notification..
Facebook just changed the users privacy settings once again, so that's why.
It's working again today.
Hopefully, with the Android Facebook SDK released yesterday, it won't be too long before we get a really good facebook app like the one on the iPhone (as opposed to the crap we have now).

Ever seen the Windows Mobile Facebook? The current Android one is awesome compared to it.. Never looked at it on the iPhone.
And gee, I was right.. They were adding more "Privacy" settings. Funny how they use the word "Privacy".
Not sure if any of you saw this or not but I trust in Eric Tseng. He's been at Facebook about two weeks and he's already getting stuff done. http://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/385
Btw the error fetching data happens to me too. It happens all the time and they have to end up updating again. Have faith in Tseng!! He just needs more time.
I had that error too, it went away early this morning...
also, I cannot wait to see what the next facebook app has in store with the SDK being released...does this mean our facebook client will equal or even surpase the iPhone one?
even on a stock rom, i still have issues with fb
Facebook app seems to work just fine here (N1 running Froyo). I've tested using both both 3G and WiFi.

It's working now, the app was broken for a while. Pretty much all of yesterday.

anyone else having trouble getting in to fb news feed? ever since yesterday its giving me "an error occured while fetching data [null]"
Not had a problem but wondered what version of Facebook you are using cos I had heard some people had problems after a recent update with 'Facebook for Android'.
If you uninstall it, I think it leaves you with the stock one that came with the phone which seems to work ok.

thats the one im using the one that came with the phone, and its only on the news feed everything else seems to be working fine.
Only problem I am having of late with it is that after reading the first set of statuses and go to click on Older Posts, it won't show me any more as the last two on the list (of the first set) are dates as Jan 1st even though they were posted today.
Facebook update 1.5 just rolled out, and added chat and push notifcations. However, mine do not seem to be working.
If I heard correctly, froyo isn't supported, since its only 2.2+ that has cloud APK support. Not 100% sure though.
I am currently running CM6.1 on my Dinc, which is based on 2.2.1, so I'm wondering why this isn't working.

1. not working.
2. If its REAL PUSH, why do we see Time Interval settings ?

Other people have said that it is working for things like comments and messages, and I've even seen a few people with push working on evo and inc, so I'm confused why it seems so hit or miss with people's updates.
EDIT: Ok, yeah, push is working for chat. Hrumph. If that's all they added, this is pretty stupid.

+1, the whole app actually needs a good rewrite!
Push is working for comments, messages, chat on my DInc, so it must be hit or miss
Ya I got push working for everything, time interval settings has nothing to do with it. I've been getting replies wall posts everything instantly in the form of a notification and its really nice and usefull

it's working for me but killing my battery at the same time. I had it on to refresh everyhour apparently and Facebook has been running in the background for over 3 hours which keeps my phone awake.

Well, then it's looking like maybe its a CM6.1 specific thing, huh.. lame. :/
My Dinc, stock 2.2, is receiving some things via instant push and other things at the interval update. It's stupid because if it would just push everything, I could turn the email updates off but I can't figure out what is consistently pushing yet.

Nope. I'm running Redemptive Rev. 2.1.3 and all i'm getting for push noti's is chat. And one message, but ive had MANY facebook notifications since updating, and none of them have pushed to my phone. The dev's for FB for android need to redo that entire app, imo. Compared to iphone's fb app, its a joke.

ditto.....
I was getting notifications for everything: comments, messages, wall posts, chat, etc...that is until I rooted.
Same. On Cyan nightly 184. I'll get no notifications pushed, sign on via pc, and see 3 IM comversations. Irritating.
No notifications here either. It seems like chat rapes my battery too.
Facebook is wrecking my battery. There was no issue before I actually launched the application, but ever since, it's been keeping my phone awake.
My phone's been unplugged for 6 hours, running 36.1% of that, with the screen on for 6.4% of that. That's about 2 hours awake, and almost a half hour of screen time. According to spare parts, facebook has kept the phjone awake like 6 times as long as the next offender, Android system. The rest of the apps on the list are little slivers.
This is with Facebook Notifications turned off in settings, and I'm like 75% sure I had signed out of chat.
I hadn't changed the default number of backups in Titanium, so I only have one backup of Facebook, which is from like the day after the update came out. Can I just uninstall it? Or will **** hit the fan?
Actually anybody know where I can find an APK for the last update of facebook? That worked fine. If I uninstall updates and then install that APK over the version that came on my phone it should be fine. I froze it for now in Titanium.
EDIT: I was able to downgrade back to facebook 1.4. Go either the Market or Application Settings, go to facebook, and uninstall the updates. Then install this over the version taht came with your phone: http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/download/temp/1288808520_Facebook_for_Android_1.4.0.apk
I've been having the same problem. some days my battery is fine and other time Facebook suck it dry. if I'm signed out of chat too.. i dont get it

I also am having no luck with any type of push on my DINC not even the chat is working for me and the battery life sucks like everyone else says. Everyone needs to email the devs and give them a ear full!

Same here too. I'm wondering if it's related to being rooted. Total speculation, but a lot of the posters on the Google forum posting do mention custom ROMs.

The wife is using Fresh Rom on her Hero and it works perfectly...
I am rooted running MIUI and my download started within 5 seconds of clicking install in the browser.
I hadnt even thought of using this yet. Logged in, picked a random app, and it downloaded to my phone instantly on CM7.
No issues here. Running CM7#24 and market 2.2.11
Edit: awe crap, you said market website. Sorry. I was talking about market app. Still haven't tried the market website.

What kernel are you running? Any themes or anything else that could change something? Also what build are you using? When was the last time you flashed a Rom? What did you have for breakfast?
Sorry for the 10 million questions, but it would be cool if we could narrow down whats causing it.
I have the terrible "no device is associated" error
Was unable to download from the website with CM6 and market 2.2.7. Installed a market 2.2.11 zip...voila problem solved.
Using an unrroted Evo the downloads start almost instantly. It might be related to being rooted though...
The website worked for me on Myn's but not on CM7 nightly 23
Just tried and the market began downloading immediately.
Miui with stock kernel. Hw003.

I have had this problem come up a few times and it seems to me there is something getting stuck, however once I turn on WIFI the programs stated downloading instantly, then after that it seems to come unstuck... I started having this problem when i turned off the Enable aways-on mobile data, to save battery. So I offer this as a solution only becuase it has worked for me... That is download it via Wifi to get it unstuck and then try it via 3G or 4G...
I wiped everything last night (for a few reasons, not just this), and it cleared up the problem for me. I'm still on myn RLS5, as I was before when it wasn't working.
I restored all my apps + data, and a handful of system data (Phone contacts, Browser data, and some other stuff).
One thought I had was that maybe Google Talk data needs to be cleared? I think that's related to how the downloads are pushed to the phone. I didn't try that before I wiped.

If your on wifi try turning it off and download through 3g...
I can't believe google took away appbrains ability to do this even though they had it first. Not to mention their UI was much better looking and a lot smoother to use...
That's ridiculous. Easily on par with some of the ways apple has screwed its developers...
Anybody noticed that Facebook push notification aren't working?
Noticed that...can't find any reaso why.
Should work with Android 2.2.X but it doesnt
Ah I'm glad it's not just me. Well I thought it was just the ROM I'm using but like you said all 2.2 devices should support it.
Since today i'm running RAFDROID HD 3.1 and there is no "push" setting in facebook available.
I think it's an Facebook bug because a friend of me have an Desire HD and there a no notifications, too.
Are there any solutions to get they working? I would love push notifications in facebook
There never was any push setting it jusr sort of happened try going back to version 1.5.0. Tell me if it works. The apk is attached for you.
I noticed that the notification aren't working when on mobile data, then a message appears saying that notification cannot be checked (connection reset by peer) or s.thing similar.
However, when on WiFi the notifications are loading.
Guess as well that it is a Facebook bug.

Ouch I don't have that problem. Are you sure you haven't turned off auto sync?
two weeks ago i was running a CoreDroid HD Rom and got the first time push notifications in facebook. i could swear i saw there an option called "push notifications" on/off...
maybe i was wrong.
since that time they never worked again on any rom i tried. (desire z / Raf / Coredroid...)
why we are so outstanding with android? it can't be so hard for the devs of the facebook app to get push working?!
Main thing is the applephone have it!!

Well maybe there was, I'm not sure. I have never seen it. Exactly the situation had them perfect until a week or so ago.
Lets face it the app could do with a facelift compared to the Apple one anyway.
I can't pin it down to this being an Android 4.3 issue or an update to the app itself so i'm asking for other peoples experience here. When you receive a facebook message and the screen is off, does it wake the screen?
I should also mention it happens too on my Nexus 7 (2013)

Yeah, I also noticed it started yesterday or the day before. Android 4.3 stock firmware. Pretty sure it's apps fault, tried different ROMs and got exact the same result. Someone should report this to developers.
I have a HTC One S, same thing occurring here... it appears to be the Messenger App's fault. Since I have had the same issue across 3 different roms
Yeah, I got the same issue with parandroid and the stock 4.3.
The screen wake up when I get a message on the desktop computer. I've shot down all the notifications on the phone and the problem's gone now.
**** .
So I'm definitely not alone then! I've just reverted back to the previous version and that's fixed it for the time being. Also sent the devs a message from within the app but seeing as this nod Facebook, who knows when it will get fixed

Good to hear, it's really annoying, I hope they fix it soon. Any tip how to revert back to old version? Or maybe you have the right apk to share with me please? I don't even know which version was the working one
Facebook is always a fail app.
The new update fixed it momentarily, but it's doing it again. I'm on 4.2.2 on an S4 and it's doing it too. Kills the battery, I hate it. Turning notifications off completely only disables it as it automatically turns on after a few hours.
Anyone have the APK for the version before this crap started happening?

Version 2.53 (here) doesn't seem to wake the screen for me...
Can't believe they still haven't fixed it... Wish more of my friends used hangouts
Well, thanks for the effort, but it still didn't fix my problem. Also tried different versions, but neither of them did work. Gotta wait for official update.
Okay, so I've found a fix. After trying absolutely everything I tried greenifying the app. Obviously when it's greenified the screen doesn't wake, because you aren't receiving any notifications at all. Strangely enough though, when you de-greenify the app, then run it again. No more screen wakes!
Have no idea why it works, but it does! So I'm happy!
I take back what I've said... It works temporarily, then starts waking the screen again

I'm also having the same problem, with my HTC One and my Nexus 7 2013.
I can reproduce the problem on the followings devices:
* HTC One running Sense 5
* HTC One running Google Edition RUU (4.3)
* Nexus 7 2013 (4.3 JSS15Q)
I dunno if the problem is really app related or not... What i find out is that trying to login with my friend account, the screen doesn't wake up when receiving a message. I tried further and created a dummy facebook account, and same, doesn't wake up the screen.
Just my facebook account is waking up my screen.
I didn't try long enough with my friend account and my dummy account if the problem will appear sooner or later.
Could be account related or app related, or both...

Okay, So I tried a fake account as well. Bam. No screen wake upon receiving notifications. So i'm going to assume it's account related... Only Facebook could pull this off...unbelievable..
unbelievable but true! it is account related. The question now is:
What do we have in common? (Developer?)
and are there any settings in Facebook which could stop this behavior.
