Hi,
is there the porting for "Chrome to phone" in Eclair 2.1??
http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/downloads/list
there is in Froyo 2.2...but i think will be a good developer for porting in eclair!
ps: sorry for my BAD english...
reading helps...
Google Chrome to Phone Extension is a project consisting of a Chrome Extension, Android App, and supporting AppEngine server that enables users to send links from their Chrome desktop browser to their Android device using Android's Cloud to Device Messaging service.

how does reading help? your cited text doesnt mention whether someone is working on a backport for 2.1
i guess its too dependant on new api Features for an easy port... you could achieve ok results with some working around ... i guess.
no, but my quotation explains that this is not a browser for android. like i said, reading helps. you just gotta do it.

Exceedingly doubtful since it requires the "Cloud to Device Messaging Service" which only exists in Froyo.
Eclair simply won't have the framework/APIs to support it.
Regards,
Dave
so let's just wait for Froyo on hero

sounds reasonable. i was about to ask whether it might be able to backport apis, then again it will be prly easier to port froyo in full...

huh? neither OP nor I were saying that it's a browser for android. we were talking about the extension. it seems that you are the one who should read more carefully.
Seriously, read again! Where does OP signal that he's talking about a browser for android. He linked to a website (containing the extension for chrome and the android-side apk) and asked whether someone's working on a port for that or not.
Instead of doubting yourself after I asked you how that citation would help him, you decided to be a big douchebag about it in your answer to me. Way to go, genius. Your parents must be proud of you.
apart from that i just have to mention, that this is a really big thing what google devs did on froyo!
long awaited, hopefully to get it this year on my hero
(of course with a stable froyo rom )

Yeah, there hasn't been any work done in the donut branch yet. So, at the moment, it's the same code as 1.5

First thing i saw was Settings->About Phone.
It said Firmware Version 1.5. Build number 1.5 Cupcake.
i didnt take another second to flash Jf1.5. took me 1 whole day to solve compilation issues and saw 1.5 cupcake in the end.
Words like "cupcake" and "donut" are not equivalent to version numbers like 1.5 and 2.0. They are moving targets. As noted above, if you download donut today, you will get nearly the same code as cupcake.

Cos there is none? Just because someone casually mentions "flash player" doesn't mean anything of the sort is in. In fact, id say these days a good 90% of the posted content on Dream android dev is just noise. A waste of bandwidth. A load of horse sh-t. etc etc.

That's because Google didn't add flashplayer, HTC did. The source tree is the open source code from Google. I'm talking about the closed source version that HTC is working on, on there own, for the HTC Hero. Improvements made by outside companies won't show up in the Google source tree.
here's' your flash player live and on a G1 like you want

It was more than a casual mention and rumors. It was stated directly by HAYKURO, hence the excitement. But don't take my word for it:

hmph. i find it rather annoying that you guys are listening to this forum that is simply using a completely pre-alpha build i provided to give you guys feedback.
the browser they have in that build has the flash player libraries, if you run the browser test, flash is supported.
the profile (which i posted earlier) does not mention flash, thus websites doesn't believe we have flash. above that, the browser.apk is INCOMPLETE as i've been saying.
flash IS supported, and WILL work, as soon as i receive the tutorial build.

That flash plugin is a HTC product, not a part of the AOSP. I'm referring to rumors of flash in the AOSP, although frankly we haven't seen anything promising about the HTC flash plugin either, aside from a screenshot of the plugin directory.
Just wondering if anybody has tried to get a Sprint Moment rom to work on Hero? (following the thread of making Hero a vanilla Android )

If that were possible -- including getting rid of all the bloat HTC added to the dialer, People app, etc. -- I would do it in a heartbeat, myself. As it is, completely stripping SenseUI has proven to be impossible.
Try this - Kill the Sense process, delete all the data for HTC Sense in applications/settings. Hit the home key and see if you can set "Home" as the default.
After that - root the ***** and kill off the bloat using the guides posted here

That would have been nice, but i already re-coded all the media i wanted on my phone. I just used Visual Hub's(Mac program, btw) default settings for the iPhone and they look great.
Hello xda-ers!
I have been stalking around, tasting everybody's cooking for a couple of weeks now, and i have got to get something off my chest.
I did search, I do realize that what I am looking for can not be made and that its no one's fault (I might be giving htc a meaningful look right now).
I like a whole lot of roms and chefs here, I really do, but the rom I'm after seems to not exist - one of two options:
1. A hero rom with all the eyecandy, that's donut based for compatibility with newer apps like goggles and the like.
2. An Eclair rom that has video and youtube working.
And so I would like to ask of you wizzies, is there light at the end of the tunnel? Are things comming around? How do you see it?
Correct me if I'm wrong, hardware-ish the mytouch is 36 MB of ram shorter then a hero and a has a lesser camera, but its not like the hero is running its os on its last bits of ram or anything so basically what the hero can do the mytouch can do, no? Is it safe to assume that when the hero\magic gets an update (and I do hope that it does) someone could pull over some driver support for eclair or something?
Thank you all so much for all your hard work, you guys are the reason I love smartphones so much, I'm dirt poor but i promise I'll buy you guys a round of beer once I get out of college
Its a matter of time bro. Be batient. A month ago, none of the eclair roms had camera. Now they all do. A month before that none of the eclair roms had N1 voice keyboard. Now they all do. God knows what some of these amazing roms will have and do a month from now. [/good deed for the year]

1. The devs aren't the ones making the actual hero, they just make hero work with our phones. They can't just say "I want you to be donut", and it be donut. Htc decided to skip donut, and the devs can't do much about that. They can however give you 2.0 hero which is scattered about the forum.
2. Drivers, drivers, drivers. You know, the thing that appears in almost every first post for this problem

As I've said, I realize that.
My point is that apperently you can't cook rosie\sense\whatever onto a 1.6 rom without htc (Ref: "I might be giving HTC a meaningful look") and at the same time you can cook it onto a 2.0 rom - which means broken video drivers.
I'm sure there's a good reason for it, and this is not a rant, just needed to let steam out I guess.

maybe that "I might be giving HTC a meaningful look" should be turned into "i actually searched and posted in the Q&A section or the I didn't read before posting..."

I think someone leaked an HTC branded Eclair ROM with the "rosie/sense/whatever," and that's why you see it cooked into a 2.0 ROM.

Well back on topic/kinda...
Do we know for sure that htc will release the necessary drivers for video playback/camera? It sounds like some people are positive we'll get them eventually...I switched back to donut because I like being able to watch youtube, but its amazing how far along eclair roms have come, and mad props to NCommander for reverse engineering the camera drivers. Without him we'd still have no camera at this point. But I was just wondering if its confirmed or not that we will indeed get those drivers from htc one day.
Well, T-Mobile is teasing us with an Eclair update for our phones. We shall see.

So I was browsing the Internet to see how cool is to have Flash on Android device, I was sure Adobe improved flash due to many many criticizes about it but I was wrong.
I know(actually I think) that Google did his part, and improved speed and usability in Android, but Adobe still needs a LOT of optimization!
In this video you will see following because of installed Adobe Flash:
-Slow page loading(even though Google improved speed in Froyo!)
-choppy performance
-instability
-huge CPU and RAM usage
Android 2.2 (Froyo) Web Browser Test with Flash enabled
In my opinion don't install Adobe Flash Player
Don't get me wrong guys I love Android 2.2 and Google openness, but ADOBE needs to work...A LOT!

Than they shouldn't release it, it is useless!
Apple was right...I can't believe that is true!
This really bugs me, its FAR from useless. I have used it to play music from the myspace music players, games on kongregate, a liveleak video, and on the burger king website. It works great, if you keep it on demand and not on all the time, it won't even slow down your browsing. If you really think that this is useless, and shouldn't be released, then you are an idiot. It may not work 100% yet, but this is a huge step forward for the Android platform, and I for one am thankful that I have it on my Nexus. If you don't want it, you can uninstall it, it's that easy. Stop being whiny idiots and complaining about how it slows this down or uses too much CPU.
You can go into your settings and set the Flash plugin to "On demand" which essentially switches it off until you browse to a site with Flash content when you will see a play button. Press that button and the Flash will load.
Perhaps that should be the default option, but nonetheless, simple to change and is definitely the way forwards in my view.
i don't browse flash based website all the time, so it doesn't bother me at all. at least i know the mobile browser is fully functional for all websites.

Calm down. It's not even hardware accelerated yet. I for one am glad I've got any flash support this far.
If you only wanted something that's 100% failsafe go grab a parchment and quill
I hope the op isn't trolling. Adobe released the beta version for adventurous people to try it. If you don't think it is ready, then fine, just unistall it. No need to jump into conclusion when the final version isn't even out yet. The argument 'then they shouldn't release it (the beta version)' is rather weak because we are talking about a beta version here, which is expected to have flaws here or there...
flash works fine for me...and it definitely doesn't leave my browser sluggish...seems to be faster than the 2.1 browser even with Flash enabled...so I dunno.
Also, the Froyo browser is a fully capable HTML5 browser as well...so no, Apple wasn't right, Google was right...options > no options. I could understand if Google was anti-HTML5 but they are not, in fact as witnessed in the Day 1 Keynote of Google I/O they are one of HTML5's biggest supporters.
They just refuse to abandon the PRESENT to feed the future.
at least we have the option to use Flash.
You can change the plugin settings in the browser to load on demand so it will only load the flash content if u click on it.
Seriously, some people need to learn what "BETA" means. u_u
it's funny.
I was reading this and went to cnn and I was watching that oil spill vid.
And then someone called me. The vid stops and I talk on the phone to a
co worker and then hang up after about ten minutes. After pressing the end call button the video starts back up in the browser.
I thought that was pretty cool.
It's better than I thought it would be, and I'm pretty happy to have it.

Other than huge flash sites its awesome for me. I think its easily almost done.
Yeah initially flash slowed down my browser but once I switched it to ON DEMAND only everything is perfect. The thing I like about android is that I have the CHOICE to use flash if I want. I don't have to let apple choose for me. And when html5 matures and is mainstream I will have to choice to use both.
