Sense UI - Click General

hi
i just got my tattoo a few days back and i did Google it but could not find any details on Sense UI can any one explain what it exactly does and if it can be disabled if so how
thanks in advance

Sense is just the name of HTC's customized launcher (it's called Rosie.apk on your phone)...You'll notice that it reacts much more smoothly when scrolling, opening the menu, etc.
You can easily remove it by moving Rosie.apk from /system/app into any other folder...don't be scared when the home screen disappears and your tattoo behaves strangely...just press the home button and there you are - the normal Android Launcher...
If you want to revert the changes, just move Rosie again into /system/app and restart your phone...there is another way to do this, but then Rosie would still run on your phone and eat resources up...

A way to uninstall Sense, or block it from booting?

I just started using GDE and have changed it to my default home, I'm asking if there is a way to block it from starting up, and if not a way to uninstall it altogether.
On a second question is there a way to use the HTC widgets like peep, home, ect.. and put them on GDE or home?
as with completely removing sense i dont know if its possible but sense ui is required for the widgets
1. click on search
2. in the drop down menu type "How to remove Sense UI / Rosie"
3. second result

yes it did, i chose gde and i prefer it over sense, check out some of my screens over in the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584379&page=5 thread. only gripe is i cant use all those nice htc widgets
Apparently to your misery of missing the htc widgets in alternative home launcher htc widget are not classed as android widgets they are specifically written to run on sense.
Market widgets run on android so they can be shown on other home launcher, only shortcuts of htc apps applies but that's not you want and you get the point overall htc widgets and htc sense are made for htc phones.
I agree sense is too simplistic on the downside and I too use a market home launcher.
Maybe try an AOSP custom rom, usually come looking like the original android interface.
If your on a deodoxed rom yes it is possible to delete sense all together u need rootexplorer and an already installed home alternative such as gde then u go to root explorer then system apps then delete rosie utility apk that's the launcher sense uses then u can go through and delete all the HTC apks and yes if u delete the HTC lockscreen you'll be on the default android lockscreen I was able to do this on nfinites sense froyo rom

Turning Off Sense

Is there a way to turn off sense or maybe install APK's to replace the crapware. I'd like to get the standard android Contacts app instead of this pain to use sense version.
Thanks for and information, I'll be eagerly awaiting root and CM5
I also want to remove the UI tmobile has placed on it.
Just want android 2.1 vanialla or with htc sense
You can always choose a launcher program. helix launcher, adw launcher, and launcherpro are the 3 best. I use adw launcher. helix is the only one in the market right now, the others you have to get apk file. adw launcher has the apk on their website now since google is haveing market issues. This will give you a great stock-like experience and can be customized a little beyond stock which is nice but you don't have to if you want it very stock.
there is a way to sort of remove sense but once you do it i dont know if you can get it back without hard reseting it. Go to settings/applications/manage applications then find htc sense click on it then clear the memory after that push the home key and it should give you the option to pick the regular android launcher.
disclaimer this worked on older versions of sense ie the 1.5 based heros have not tried on the slide yet

Actually it does, it resets your quicklinks or shortcuts on your screen.
EDIT:
If you changed your homepage from the default 5 screen to 7 and did the procedure mentioned above, your homepage will revert back to 5 screens even if you changed your settings in the "Personalize" to 7 pages. I tried it on mine just to see the effect and ended up hard resetting my device to get it back to actually seeing 7 screens. Please correct me if it's only me, a bug or if anyone has a better solution than doing a hard reset.

ADW screens

Is there a way to add more panels to the home screen?...I could use 2 more....I looked under ADW settings and did not see the option. Thanks....

I think the max is 7. Were you looking for more? You can have 1-7 under ADW's settings.
For me, I've actually been doing fewer screens. I prefer to fit more in less screens. Less flipping around that way.
There are several apps that let you fit more apps into less space via clever widgets. I use FolderOrganizer the most; and Multicon and a few others.
ADW changed the way you manage screens. It's no longer just a 'setting'.
launch the screen preview (usually set on the home button) and then hit the menu button. You can then add or edit your screens. It's a bit of a complicated interface, but allows for moving screens (say you want to move your right-most screen over to the left most spot, etc), deleting screens, adding screens, and setting which one is the 'home' or default.
Yeah I figured it out last night.... Its under the EDIT heading...Slowly figuring this out Is there a way to modify the Framework.res or a similar file to get the stock 2.2 cube 3d app window in ADW? Not a requirement, but would be cool. Working on theming and want to make that a part of my theme

You would not edit the framework for that... you would edit the ADW .apk. Everything that you see on your home screen is in ADW.Launcher .apk. Unless.. you're not using ADW of course.
Ok. Just decompile the ADW.apk and find the that screens info and replace with 2.2 3d? Any help is appreciated. I'm learning this stuff

[Q] [Req] Homescreen Switcher + several questions

Hey mates,
i have this friend (he's the typical iDork) who keeps annoying me with comments about how ugly he finds my homescreens...
i used to have only one scene (The Sense HD remix scene in minimal grey).
now i'd like to install launcher pro and make it look awesome, custom icons, everything designed as minimal as it gets.
only problem, every time i hit "home" my beloved desire asks me what homescreen it should return to. i know i can make it remember one of the two, but if i want to change then, i'd have to work through the settings and options...
so, here's my request:
a SIMPLE, SEXY WIDGET, that can instantly change the launcher assigned to the home button. i think it's not much work to do, if the API allows apps to change settings (not sure about that).
I'm a C++ programmer with zero experience in java, so i can't do it myself.
finally, i'd like to know how i can mod the launcher pro in the ways seen around on this forum (e.g. Mnml Icons as buttons etc.)
Thanks for your time,
Max
PS: does anyone know a widget for email/sms with a minimal style, such as Cal Widget with transparent background.
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > LauncherPro > Clear Defaults.
Do you need a widget for that? ..
this isn't my point
i want to be able to switch between two launchers FAST, so i have, let's say a private and a business launcher, one designed for usability, and the other for style.
i don't want to reassign the home button everytime i want to switch, thats why i wnat a widget, or a shortcut, which i just touch once.
but since it seems like i'm the only person here switching frequently between launchers, i guess i'll have to code something myself.
anyway, thx for your time.
Oh.
Not a bad idea.
Good luck.

HomeSwitcher.
Works from 1.5 - 2.1, I think.
Certainly doesn't support 2.2

No,not home switcher. It was called easy switcher or something like that, can't say for sure. It supported widgets for quick switching also. I found several with similar function Launcher switcher/Home manager/, don't know if this one has widgets.
thanks mates,
homeswitcher does indeed not support android 2.2.
anyway, i found "Launcher Switcher" BUT:
- doesn't provide a widget
- sends me to the android settings screen, when i want to re-bind the home button
so, i stiiiiiiiiill haven't fouuuuuuuuund, what i'm looking foooooor....
Cleardefaulthome
It takes you straight to the current launcher info page where you press clear defaults, then press home and select the one you want. Its the best option atm.

Any way to stop throwing away ADW launcher?

With CM7 I keep throwing the ADW launcher away, it seems that when I unlock the screen I am holding it at an angle that puts the launcher on the "top" of the screen, but I use my thumb slide down the notification bar.....which isn't on top because the way I am holding the phone....and I end up basically dragging the ADW launcher into the trash. Even when I go into the settings and restart the launcher it takes a few minutes.
Any way to stop doing that....other than holding the phone straight or waiting a second for the screen to rotate? I looked in the launcher settings to find anything that would stop me from throwing it away, but can't find anything. So far CM7 RC4 is working flawlessly in every other department....I just can't seem to stop throwing the launcher in the trash.
When you mean "launcher" do you mean the app drawer? If so then you can lock it so no changes will be made. Just hit menu and Lock Desktop. If its not there check under more.
I actually find adw launcher to be incredibly annoying. Can't stand having default weird gestures that make things vanish or explode. On top of it, it really doesn't do anything useful over the stock launcher, and has a really "amateurish" look to it. I say just delete adwlauncher and replace it with stock. Works way better.

I'm on c7 nightly rom which comes with adw launcher installed by default. Where can I find the 'stock' launcher to either flash through recovery or install?

I don't mind it as much, I just got sick of constantly throwing it in the garbage. It seems that the problem is that the accelerometer is sluggish with CM7, and it takes a second for the screen to flip vertical as I am unlocking the screen while taking it out of my pocket. That and the fact that the drawer goes to the "top" of the screen in landscape mode instead of being at the bottom like the stock ones does.....plus the garbage can is on the top of the screen not the bottom like stock. With the stock ROM I am used to unlocking the screen while picking up the phone and quickly using my thumb to drop down the notification bar to read a new text. When I do it that fast with CM7, combined with all the above "issues", I end up dragging the drawer into the trash can. Rather annoying. For now I just removed the garbage can and use long hold to delete things on the screen. But I am thinking of loading the stock drawer.
Right now I am in the process of finding a radio that doesn't lose all signal randomly and doesn't kill my battery. So after this trial and error with radios, I might switch back to the OE drawer.

There are ones on the market but this one is the lightest I've found.
Why don't you just lock the desktop, as previously suggested in Post #2? One of the reasons I like ADW, is becuase its the only launcher I've tried so far that has the feature to lock the desktop.
Another workaround, I personally don't like the homescreen/lanucher auto-rotating with the G-Sensor, so in the ADW settings, I have it locked to Portrait. On this setting, the homescreen only goes to landscape when you open the keyboard.
