S/E Vivaz with Android & X10i with Symbian? - XPERIA X10 General

Let me first clarify that I'm talking about in theory
It would theoretically be possible to cram X10i´s Android on Vivaz?
And vice versa again cram Vivaz´s Symbian onto X10i?
I think they have both 8 mega pixels and both video recording.
Both have three physical buttons at the bottom, and not least touchscreen .
However, the Vivaz not blink indicator.
Sry for my bad english .....

Usually is pretty difficult to port an OS on a different phone.
Just like your windows at home, a phone needs drivers for everything and this means those drivers have to be available or written for that specific platform.
To answer your questions, yes, it is possible
It is doable in short time? Most likely no.
It took years for android to be ported on iphone 2g and 3g and is not ported yet on 3gs so, figure out how long will take to put symbian on X10 (personally i'm wondering who will want that. i got rid of my old phone simply because was running symbian).

That´s right, but now Android OS and iPhone OS, us two completely different Operating systems.
I think more that you could cram a modded X10i Android OS (With S/E UX) onto Vivaz (Since they both phones are from S/E) So you just missing and create driver for Screen and processor ??.
Know that it is not equal to

Can i install windows mobile 6.5 in Vivaz ???

From my experience with symbian (nokia 5800) i dont think you can port an os onto it, however since symbian is now open source it my well be possible

Square peg round hole!
VIVAZ has just 75MB internal memory X10 has 1gb! ...even the X10 mini tops that with 53 mb more at 128mb! ... taking into consideration customizations/branding etc it could be more or less left over of the total!
It wont go!

It would be great, if we could get Android OS on Vivaz.

why not...
Google "jetdroid"
to see that its possible to install android on Samsung jet which is Java mobile

Please God not Symbian. Terrible software memories from my Vivaz experience which lasted a week before swapping out for a w995!
It was like trying to playing COD on a Commodore64

Why not?
Vivaz has got OMAP3630 720 MHz ARM Cortex A8 like Motorola Milestone 2.
Camera driver - maybe from X10?
There are Jetdroid and Wavedroid.. So why not Vivazdroid?

I have tried to make a compare...
But it could be nice with Android OS on Vivaz...

I dont think you really get it, its like trying to mate a snail with a tiger

Maybe, maybe not.
X8 have 3´ screen, 600Mhz, 168Mb Ram. It has worse hardware and it runs Android

A friend of mine has a Vivaz and has just today asked me whether it would be possible to install Android. From the hardware requirements, it would be possible.
Is it possible or not? Where can I make myself smart or where there are instructions for it? He would like to flash his Vivaz with Android, Symbian so down! He asked me to make me smart and then maybe flash to be Vivaz with Android.

im also looking to flash a cfw to the vivaz, my girlfriend got one and is moaning that she hates it, i have had a look and it is a pos, dunno how it got go ahead to be made. looking to get rid of symbian, (never been a fan) and put android, or wm, or anything better then what it currently has.

is there any update on this theme >?

@x10mike,, LOL !!!!!

++1 ,, You are right!

I know how to get android on the vivaz... get an Xperia Neo
hehe, lame joke, i know.

I also had the vivaz before my x10..hated it from day 2..lol. I couldn't get past the small screen much less the symbian os my brother warned me about. Took it back well within my 30days..

Windows Phone 7 with full "multitouch" on our HD2´s

Hey xda´s!
Today I´m getting my own HD2 from england and I can´t wait to hold it in my hands
But I have some questions about the phone.
The first one is...Will the HD2 be upgradeable to Wiindows Phone 7 or if it will not be official upgradeable will the xda´s can do it? I know its early to ask about WM7 because there are not really many specs out about it yet but I would like to know what you think about that
And my second question is...Will the HD2 with it´s capacitive screen have full "multitouch" aahh sorry "pinch to zoom" support on WM7?
...or will the xda´s enable more multitouch gestures in the next weeks or months?
There have been tons of queries about this subject, please use the search before posting. It's probably safe to say that HTC won't be giving us WinMo7 the official way, but I'm sure the XDA community will find a way getting it to our beloved HD2 "the other way"
it will be possible congrats for ur new mob you'll love it
Yep! Thats right! If not Officially, you can bet that Win Mo 7 will be made available on the HD2 by the talented devs here. And not just that, we might even get Android to run on it!
Congrats on your purchase!

Thats a point i never got...
Why do people want to port Android on Wimo Phones? I you like Andorid, why don't you directly buy an Android phone which was designed for the operating system. I guess thats better than having a bad ported version running on a phone desigend for windows mobile.
actually this subject is non sense.

People do it because, in the case of the HTC Leo/HD2, there's not one piece of hardware quite like it being sold with Android installed.
I guess smartphones are quickly becoming the new PCs & Laptops of the age. Some people buy a PC with an OS installed as default, they like the hardware but not the OS (usually Windows, maybe OSx) so they just format the HDD and install say Ubuntu etc etc.

Yeah but you will never get a well-performing port until an OEM makes a device with the same hardware. Who's going to make the drivers for you?

That's true. Though the Acer A1 and Xperia X3 both use snapdragon so drivers (or partial drivers) will undoubtedly make their way to the porting project.
Yes but then you will have Android devices with the same level of hardware as HD2! So the initial question remains - why not buy them instead of coping with inevitable problems with ports?
It's not like drivers instantly start working when you copy them from one device to another, even with the same hardware platform - check out the video drivers thread to see what I mean. You're doomed to have problems like battery drain or calls dropping or poor performance in some areas or what not.
Then there will be some problems with applications - I don't know about the new devices, but all the current Android ones have low-res screens.
In addition to that, you really want 2.0 with Sense, and there's no port of that available AFAIK. Plain Android is just dull, it's nothing to fret about, IMO.
I understand the fun of porting and making things work, but using that as your primary device? It's guaranteed to be worse than what you have now.
Neither of those devices have 4.3 inch touchscreens. Also The HD2 has a look and feel all of its own.
The only thing spoiling it for me is Windows Mobile and the terrible onscreen keyboard so if we could port Android to this device I would be elated as it has a much better marketplace (Windows Marketplace is really a sack over overpriced crap), less cludge and better built in apps - the Youtube app for example supports user subscriptions and favourites viewing, and I'm a big online video fan.
The fact that Android was built from the ground up for capacitive touchscreen devices rather than being a patched up ropey old operating system with a shell interface on top makes me drool at the idea of it being on the HD2, and YES we could buy an Android device of similar specification BUT where's the fun in that??? Check the name of this site.........................
Well, I'm not on the Google/Android hype bandwagon, I do admit that the UI out of the box there is much more finger friendly and the notifications are implemented in the best way among all the mobile phone OSes, but otherwise Android's greatness is blown out of all reasonable proportion. An Android crippled by driver incompatibilities/incomplete implementation is something that totally misses the concept of attractive in my terms...
That said, I'm sure I'll install it myself one day (via haret or otherwise) just out of curiosity, that would certainly serve to satisfying the geek in me. But to expect that your experience from using the device would improve is somewhat unrealistic.
I am happy with the HD2 and figured I would decide what platform to go with at the time of my next phone purchase. This report should mean I can try out Windows Mobile 7 on the HD2 and take that into consideration as well.

I'm just tired on fighting with the X2

I just tired on fighting with this piece of crap.
In fact, I just surrender and just leave all the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform behind.
The X2 is a marvell Hardware device, but it's Software support it's a shame. I even think that SE Android support will be the same: low quality updates, no information.
I swear i'll never buy or it recommend a Sony Ericsson product again.
On the other hand, the Windows Mobile platform is really outdated and unsupported. Low quality apps, even for Twitter and Facebook (Twikini is the best out there and really is a shame compared to the iPhone or BlackBerry), no more Skype. Do I really need to tell you the Internet browser experience? Windows Mobile has NO future at all.
When the iPhone appeared in 2007, it was a shame operating system, we all agree. But, in 2010, iOS 4 is from another planet. There's no more excuses. Everyone should see it.
I'm affraid that Windows Phone 7 will take a couple years just to catch the progress on the Apple iOS. It doesn't have Copy/Paste, no multitasking, so...
I'm selling this piece of crap X2 that never got to work at a basic quality level, I'm jumping for good of the Windows Mobile world and I'm buying an iPhone 4 in the coming days. No need to find stupid arguments in defense of WM, a piece of crap operating system in our days (2010, not 2000 or 2002).

Holy ****!
If you are on MR1 the experience is miserable indeed!
And WM 6.5.2 was bad.....
Pity because MR2 and WM 6.5.3 is a heaven tu use.
Much better interface in every area, modern and smooth.
X2 itself on MR2 is smooth too including great screen sensitivity.
There are issues of course but I would not like to have any other OS...
iPhone 4 may be great but it's limitations are too much for me. And it's boring.....
As for Windows future I think you may be wrong.
WP7 looks really promising.
Good luck anyway!!!!

I'm sorry, but I already using MR2 Spanish Vodafone, without personalization.
I just reset the phone at the end of the calibration screen, and I've installed all cabs from US MR2 ROM manually. The ROM is faster, ok, but stability problems remains.
And also, MR2 not resolve the primary problem with Windows Mobile: stupid old, pointless and bad mobile operating system. That's why I'm switching. I could buy an HD2 or other WinMo Device, but why?

Sorry but I don't get "stupid, old, pointless OS".
For me WM is the most sensible OS.
Maybe you just don't like it? There's nothing like what you described in WM 6.5.3.
Besides some small issues with stability.

Well, this is just a debate, don't worry. I appreciate your help.
IMHO wm is the best os for mobile devices, it is flexible and it has sofisticate software. You have to approach like a computer, a PC, where hardware is different from software. Apple makes hw and sw, Blackberry makes hw and sw. Sonyericsson makes hw (the project?) and Microsoft makes the os. When Htc made HD2 (capacitive) or Diamond2 (resistive) or others, it used wm and made great devices. If x2 doesn't work the cause is se. I had a lot of wm devices but only x2 is such a disaster. I only hope for a good chef

A phone is not a PC. You control a phone with your fingers and with your hands, and maybe with a small keyboard. But, pointers, stylus and other devices are outdated. The capacitive display are an very high innovation, and it will be present on every mobile device on the market.
That's why Windows Mobile fails, and that's why is discontinued and Windows Phone 7 was created. A 'front skin' update (like WM 6.5.3) isn't just good enough.
On other hand, WM6.5 could be a good operating system, but... there's no apps. All developers had go to other platforms. WM has no future.
You can see Skype dropping all support for WM. The only 'decent' app for Twitter, Twikini, had no see Updates since December... That's 7 months ago! The Facebook app has also outdated.
The only developer that has some interest on WM is the own Microsoft, updating Office Mobile to... a 'new' version that trully doesn't contain any new features. Even, the Windows Live suite for mobile is really outdated and always worked really bad. Instead, MS prefer to develop a new Windows Live official suite for the iPhone.
Windows Mobile has no future. It's the true, and all we must accept it. No more devices will appear with this OS. And now, we doesn't have a good number of applications. It's time to go.
Cheers.
Just thought I would drop by and say hello
Since my move to the X10, I am very happy indeed
They achieved root this week and this is going to open up a world of goodies
As far as IOS 4 is concerned, LOL! Don't be fooled by the Apple advertising campaign. Just google "iPhone security issues" and you will see what I mean. Besides, they just added features that should have been there in the first place! Nothing new, but they sure make the world think "Oh gosh! look at this shiny new phone! It's got all these cool new features!"
What a freaking joke!

But they have done it, finally. So, what are the complaints now?
A really honest question: What feature is missing on the iOS now that we REALLY use day by day?
You can say:
- There's no 3G Videocall... I don't have ANY contacts with a video phone, and even, the first ones sure will be iPhone 4 owners. And, by the time that videocall be a REALLY standard, it will be the APPLE Standard.
- There's no Bluetooth Send and Receive files... Why? We have Internet, Mail, and the last time that I sent a file via BT was 2 or 3 years ago. BT transfer is unreliable, slow and unnecessary.
- SD Card, why? There are a 16GB and a 32GB version iPhone 4. Probably it will be even a 64GB version on the future.
- Removable battery, why?
And that's it.
Really... There's no more excuses. A year or two ago it really was. But not today.
Even, Windows Phone 7 will appear with a lot of cons: No Copy/Paste, No multitasking... I insist: it will take a couple of years to catch iOS and even Android. And, of course, there's an App Market that it will no show really interest: Skype dropped support, Mozilla too.
And even, the most important and the most relative thing to this thread: Apple really CARES about the Software support on these products. Users of 2008 iPhone 3G can Upgrade to iOS4, a two years ago phone.
What happened to the Xperia X1?
What is happening to us? We can even use officialy the accelerometer on our phones.
Some we're complaining about even cannot upgrade to MR2 by a clean language-localized version.
Do you think that the iPhone cannot notify a received SMS? Please...
This war is over. There's a winner, iOS, and even contenders, but they're still fighting: Android, BlackBerry, even WP7 in the future.
Windows Mobile? nope. It's dead, really.
Cheers.
hahahaahhaha

These are quite essential things on my device.
You say a bit of a bull**** here mate, sorry.
Bluetooth? It's marvellous. Instead of stupid sending email (?!)
or beeing forced to use iTunes I send files Phone -> PC or PC -> Phone. The best way.
Somebody is NEXT TO ME - so why the **** I should send EMAIL when
I can immediately send whatever by BT?! Funny...
SD card - well, first I can transfer content to any device without PC or whatever. I can also extract all the files from it even if my device is broken!!
And use the card for multiple devices, man that's easy to understand.
Removable battery?! ****. So when my iPhone battery is broken
I have to SEND my personal device to the company and WAIT? A joke?
Also when it freezes completely - no way to turn it off...
I can replace it with new...
Buy your iPhone, probably WM is just not for you.
WM is still superior to any iCrap anyway.
I suggest you another key to read: Microsoft has won the battle with Apple in computer war for a reason that isn't "oh great!" but... cheap. Apple has success with smartphones for a reason that isn't "oh cool!" but... marketing. Iphone (a good device anyway) has caught the market of cellphones users, not professional user who prefers to sync outlook or use a portable word processor.
Smartphones ARE computers, little computers, if you don't understant this one it's difficolt to explain the rest. Mouse and pens are everything but outdated, I makes graphical works and it would be difficult to use... fingers to work (...waiting for the Iphone with physical keys )
Anyway, it's important you have found a device suitable for your needs, the perfect one doesn't exists.
Bye
P.S.: Apple was not born with Iphone, it is as old as Microsoft and they are old partners so don't think Windows is dying...
I guess its all just based on preferences
because in my opinion iphones are ****. hardware is outdated, UI is ugly, and phone is virtually locked (memory, kill switch). yeah it may have a Capacitive screen which supports multi-touch, but why? multi-touch only forces you to hold the device with two hands (ex. pinch zoom hold phone in one had use other hand to pinch) which i i would just prefer a double tap, plus the Capacitive screen requires you to use the fat part of your greasy finger (yes my hands get sweaty) where the resistive touch screen allows you to use both the fat part of your finger, or you fingernail/stylus for more accuracy. as for web browsers, according to some test i just ran (which included 8 browsers, safari, IE, skyfire, fennec, android 2.2 browser, uZard web p, opera mini 5, and opera mobile 10) safari tested almost as badly as IE and fennec (opera and android 2.2 browsers performed the best) and once more iphone will NEVER support flash, and they act like HTML5 is the future and is all you really need, but hell i still play farmvill, bloons tower defense, and watch youtube videos with skyfire with practicly no lag. Oh and the lack of hardware buttons on these modern phones... why?
moving on to windows mobile 7, looks very promising. app integration is well planned, the hardware on these phones will blow aways iphones, the panoramic UI is just damn sexy. trust me it'll be great, from what i saw (youtube videos) it will be an iphone killer
and as for your accelerometer issues you may want to check out this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681982 if you keep your phone, it fixes some of the bugs sorry for typing so much i have a lot to say. when ever i have an issue with winmo i find a fix, if something is wrong with the iphone they are stuck with it until the next update.
It may be just me, but I absolutely don't get this thread. Jolo_, if you've decided that you want to switch your mobile OS, fine, but why do you have to bother writing anything in here? You think you'll enlighten us by your opinion? There are many different ones and what makes you think yours is the best? Suit yourself and let everyone else suit themselves. Also, stick to the people that share your opinion, who we're obviously not. I believe there was much more than enough pointless arguing all over the Internet, it's time to let it go. Yet again, it might be just me...
totally agreed. sony [email protected] is a crap. sigh...
See what you want to see.
If it's not dead yet, Windows Mobile life ends in a three or four months, when WP7 arrives.
Then, all our crappy WM phones will became useless, pointless (no new applications, no new developers). And gets worse: impossible to re-sell because NOBODY will want a Windows Mobile phone.
Think about it: we even haven't HardSPL for the X2 yet. And of course, this is never going to happen because the X2 is so locked that anyone isn't really working on it.
It's now or never: get rid of this crap or you'll stay the same and you'll lose money.

It's now or never: get rid of this crap or you'll stay the same and you'll lose money.
Cheers!
P.D.: Last post, sorry.

Meego canceled

Nokia have decided to take WP7 and dump meego.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/11/...ore-symbian-and-meego-details-android-explor/
Elop clarified that MeeGo will ship this year but "not as part of another broad smarpthone platform strategy, but as an opportunity to learn." Something that sounds very similar to position Nokia took with its so-called "experimental" Maemo-based N900 last year. After the first (and apparently, only) MeeGo device ships this year, the MeeGo team will then "change their focus into an exploration of future platforms, future devices, future user experiences." Trying to determine the "next disruption" in smartphones.

Apparently, they will still release one phone with Meego, but what's the point? It won't have nearly enough big community to compete with other systems.
Although i would love to see my HD2 running Meego, I'm thinking that porting this may be a waste of time.
I didn't see what the big fascination with MeeGo was anyway?
They can't just build an OS then drop it like that.
either way, I still want MeeGo on my HD2 .
Ummmm...
Nokia was only one of the two major backers of MeeGo, and the project is controlled by the Linux Foundation. MeeGo definitely isn't canceled, and if 1.2 ends up looking good it's quite likely it will get picked up by others. Too many companies want an alternative to Google without being caught in the Microsoft dead-end.
Pocketnow.com is reporting some interesting info regarding MeeGo and HTC http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/intels-meego-smartphone-prototype-teases-a-new-htc-partnership. Remains to be seen what this means.
Linux Foundation as mentioned by superhyper and intel are still backing up MeeGo.
MeeGo is the most open OS for Mobile devices and development on it should never be stopped no matter what those corporations think or do !.
So what if NoKia is in't supporting MeeGo, we still have Intel supporting it & with its open sourceness I am sure HTC will think of it some way & that day it'll definately be BiG..!!!
I would love to have MeeGo on my HD2
Infact i wolud love to have MeeGo, Ubuntu, Android, WP7 and WinMo6.5 , all of these together, on my HD2
more wood for the fire ......
http://m.engadget.com/default/article.do?artUrl=http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/14/editorial-intel-keeps-pushing-meego-but-why/&category=classic&postPage=1
From what I've seen the UI doesn't really seem all that novel or impressive?
hmm was kinda looking forward to this, tried wp7 and android.
Yeah, Intel is still supporting Meego. But Intel sells x86 processors, so i guess they will focus mainly on x86 version, while HD2 is ARM.
Doesnt matter that nokia is dropping it as nokia isnt that big of player in the smart phone scene as it was and is supassed now. Nokia is trying to rebrand itself leaving room for other players on the field. Having a company like HTC on field i know who ill support. Especially after buying are N97.

You would be surprised how big of a player Nokia really is.
Sure, Americans and Britons don't see it, but you should look around mainland Europe.

Sure their still the largest manufacturer of mobile phones but when it comes to smart phones theyve slept on it. Think even LG is the 3rd and its an infint on the mobile market. Even the hardiest Nokia fan can be whooed away. On that key first dual core phone goes to LG. Nokia will still do well as they have alot of the technology that made the phone smart.

good post!
Nokia's MeeGo device will be called N950, will be out this year
No one is canceling MeeGo.
Nokia rumors are saying the are going to be bought by Microsoft.... but those are rumors!!!
Possibly good news on the horizon... Nokia announces another chief for Meego

WP7 overtakes Android by 2015???

I found this rather bad article whilst going through some arc pictures on Flickr.......
http://zomgitscj.com/2011/05/15/analyst-wp7-to-beat-android-by-2013-not-2015/
while i thinks it's quite possible because of Nokia's humongous market share in asia, wat do you guys think???
nah....i thinks is a joke....not overtake....
the term is compete.....i think people will prefer "free"
than all that WP have is "paid"....my opinion only...
forever android for me....
Android for life, no matter what.
I don't think WP7 will overtake android as WP7 is made out of mostly high end devices, and android has all sorts of devices. So the situation is like android vs iOS.
Won't happen...
Wp7 has none of the appeal of android, it will stay a niche product...
Wp7 sucks imo.
Just because Nokia decided to plump for WP7 doesn't mean their market share will help boost the market share of WP7. Let's be honest here, WP7 is a pile of **** so if anything it will just give Nokia a slap for making the wrong choice of mobile OS. I'd say by 2015 Nokia will have taken a pounding as their customer base leaves in droves to one of their Android competators.
there is no change in hell
google does knows exactly what to do
2013? Considering that Nokia won't have their first WP7 phone until late this year or early 2012, I doubt it.
But will WP7 make a dent by 2015? I'm sure it will. Nokia has said that they will start pushing it out to mid level devices (which will probably be the current scorpion chipset on smaller sized/res screens with the high end phones using a newer chipset). And if there's one thing Nokia can do, is flood the market with multiple phones.
Their developer tools are really good, xbox live mobile games are very good, the eventual inclusion of Ovi maps and Nokia hardware appears to be a good combination. The number of apps haven't been great but I was browsing their marketplace a couple days ago and found 3 new apps that i've been using on my x10.
Also, google hasn't been the white knight here and have appeared to irritate motorola and samsung (skyhook thing). Those documents showed how reliant moto is on Android - it doesn't surprise me that they're working on a lower end OS like Samsung (w/ their Bada OS).
However, Android will continue to get better (we'll see how the phone interface looks for 3.1) and iOS is branching out to more providers (coming to tmo usa and sprint soon). Not to mention that RIM is really pushing hard.
In all honesty, if Nokia releases a WP7 with the N8 12 mp sensor/optics/xeon flash (but no bulge)... I may have to follow my wife's lead and switch. It helps to remain subjective. Either way, if WP7 starts doing great, it just means that Android's improvement will accelerate.
Once WP7 starts releasing phones with better cameras and better video recording....goodbye to android for me in a heartbeat.

the big long drawn out animations to cover up lag don't do it for me..
I think android, especially once it matures a bit more, will probably be a frontrunner for a very long time
Unless they support usb mode for file storage needs and no mandatory tethering to zune for media upload on the device I'll stay away. This is my biggest gripe with iOS currently. iPhone 4 is ready to be sold as soon as sgs2 hits Canada.
But I have more faith in MS+Nokia compared to Apple. If WP7or WP8 does open things a little bit, I won't mind. Nokia makes great hardware. It's Apple I think who will stubbornly stay on their old ways forever.

I wouldnt doubt that for a second. But for my personal preference, WP7 is excellent and I find it more enjoyable than android....just need Nokia or someone to bring out some good cameras before I would ever leave android.

Currently WP7 doesn't have 3G hotspot support while X10 will get it in 3 months.
Moreover, WP7 is extremely picky on memory card, so this is NOT an option for me.

Currently WP7 isn't ready for me because:
No 3G hotspot: though I don't use it much, it's handy when I use laptop on the bus or the main internet is down.
Limited audio format support: more than 80% of my music library uses ogg vorbis format and currently I don't see any 3rd party player support this; in addition, other than streaming wma/wmv, I don't see any streaming mp3 application yet.
WP7 can display Far East language out of the box like iphone and Android, but I have to wait a couple more years to see the evolution (and probably Android 4 Jellybean will be out by then).
I got a used HD2 just for the purpose of testing WP7 and GOD NO, I hated just about everything about it. Having to use PC software to put any files on it just sucks. I flashed WM6.5 back on it but then decided that I might as well have two Android phones. So, X10 with Froyo MIUI and the HD2 with GB MIUI. Love them both.
I think this will never happen if WP7 won't change its whole structure.
I can just speak for Germany, but if you see which devices are preferred by ppl:
Just smatphones:
1.) Android & iOS
2.) BB RiM
3.) still Symbian
4.) WP7
WP7 was nearly dead before it was published. Also many Germans don't like Nokia anymore after they closed the fabrics here: many ppl lost their jobs and nokia built new factorys with the money they got from the country :'(
But thats just another point which leads me personally to the decicision that "I WILL NEVER BUY A NOKIA AGAIN"
Let's think this way: Nokias smartphones are nearly dead and simply not serving what ppl want this days.
WP7 is nearly dead too and doing just the same, ppl want to customize their phones and install many many apps etc. etc. They want a cute homescreen, big displays and the variety of devices. (Or they want a Apple product, just because it's apple )
So if you put this 2 products together:
Nokia + WP7 = "dead" + "nearly dead before release"
what will you get ?
dead + dead != superb
dead + dead == really dead
But that's just my point of view! Let's see what the future brings.
But what i can say is that i always see people looking at different devices in Shops and i see them mostly buy Androids.
On Saturday i was in the shopping mall and in one of the bigger electronic shops.
I saw a woman playing with an HD7, after a short while she took the DHD and said: "Wow this is much nicer, but it's almost the same device" !! And this is not the first time is see a behaiviour like this between WP7 and Android.
So now you can think yourself, if a standard customer behaves like this, how they want to be big together on this base ?
Also a nice point PRO Android: The german government decided to take a special customized Android System as the new platform for secure communication between members of the higher government levels!
The choice was between: stay with Nokia, go to WinMo or Android. They decided for Android.
You can read yourself, but you must take a online translator, because this article is in german (of course)
http://www.zdnet.de/sicherheits_ana...n_android_handy_story-39001544-41549815-1.htm
That's all from me now

I love android, don't get me wrong, but WP7 will very likely pick up a nice chunk of the market..
WP7 and the various other versions that will come after will only keep getting better.
The operating system is actually good and getting better, and the minimum specs that WP7 requires of the manufactures insures that you won't get a lemon.
Updates are "supposed" to cover all the phones at the same time and make it seamless for the customers.
It's also Microsoft that were talking about, even if they lose money year after year, they'll just keep going! So is WP7 dead? Right now, perhaps.
But it'll get better and it's backed by Nokia and Microsoft, two HUGE companies with loads of cash.
I'm still rooting for Android!

The storage partition on the device is only hidden and there is a registry hack that unhides it so it can be accessed just like any other mass storage device, but this is far from an ideal solution when it should be implimented as a matter of course. Only caveat is that you must have Zune installed but this would likely be the case anyway.

Do you still use WM? If so why?

Just a friendly discussion, so my question is why do yous till use WM if you do, with Android, WP7 and IOS out their, why stick with WM?
cause i enjoy every minute i use my HD2 with WM-CHT2.0
for my WP7 is an incognita, can anybody please provide a link for WP7 secreenshots?
Android is fine, my kids love playing angrybirds all time! but WM is for me, its adult games ...

.....OS
Android is for kids/teenagers
Reason 1 WM integrates flawlessly with my windows PC ,office ect..
Reason 2 WM has TOMTOM Satnav and it works flawlessly with my WM device just load the software and your ready to go .
The reasons could go on and on but i gave you my most important two
Unlike my daughter just purchased a iPhone 3gs loaded on TomTom and found out to my disgust that you need the car GPS Dock to make it work as integrated GPS don't work with the app (Don't get me started on iphone sh*t)
OS!!
still using WM 6.5/6.5x.
Android is for kids and WP7 is immature..

Oh ok cause you said look at it, I thought you meant looks, imo android does anything and everything but it has its flaws, iphone is nice and simple but a little too restrictive. And wp7 is hands down the best UI around imo, simple, clean and elegant, missing funtionality and support though at this stage. As for WM I think its a fine OS but too slow for my tastes and it seems like it never matured into full touch UI. Symbian is real functional but so damn slow and ugly UI.

In my experiences. I love WM then another other OS and will keep in first place of my favorite list ever.
WM functions are very similar to Windows OS. You can do what ever you want, as a developer or as a user. If you are from Windows PC, then you won't be liking android, iOS or even WP7.
Android has good graphics and speed but it feels like a beta software. Cannot trust it.
WP7 is very simple and basic but Still lacks lots of things. I didn't expected MS will do such a bad thing. Better if they stood in WM interface itself.
iOS, I have no comments about it as I haven't used much.
To say in one line, android, WP7, iOS and etc (except WM of course) developers are trying to keep users in there custody!
This never happened in WM, users of it were very free to use, as if they made there own OS.
WM has something that you cannot express but feels in heart when using. Android is my second option though.
Thanks...
Best Regards

Because its a Win CE core which operates from 1x1 pixel tap (i.e stylus). Its same as a cursor present in PC. Later on, MS and HTC tried to make it better Touch Sensitive. Though it wasn't very successful because the core and kernel didn't match the latest hardware. If you know about VM in WM, you probably also knowing it doesn't have much space. Even though the physical memory (RAM) has enough space, multiple apps load slow and its because VM is lacking space. Thats the major fall in WM.

I learnt the Win32 programming model so that I could use the original Embedded Tools 3.0 to create native C++ ARM Windows Mobile 2002 programs.
It was a long hard slog, involving studying the shell "Hello World" program as created by the project wizard, and then trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Embedded C++ 4.0 came along later for WM2003. The accumulated skills could then be used later in Visual Studio, for creating Win32 PC programs, and being able to port applications from one platform to the other, in either direction!
Microsoft have made a total mess of the transfer to Phone 7, with the complete change of programming model, being one of the most crass moves they have ever pulled. Phone 7 was too little, far too late which allowed the opposition to run away with the advantage. Microsoft will never get that back.
Windows CE and Windows Mobile are still good solid operating systems, tried and tested, even if they are a little long in the tooth. Win32 programming may be considered very old hat these days, but the programs run like a bat out of hell.
Android is also pretty stable, being based on a Linux core, and it's improving, but to learn Android development means starting from scratch, almost from the "Hello World" example above. Do I really want to start all over again? Maybe, mañana........ Fortunately, there is not much difference between C# and Java code, so the transition may not be that painful.
Update: Currently studying some of the stuff in the Android SDK........ At the "What the hell does this do?" stage again.
Windows Mobile lives on as Windows Embedded Handheld, but this is now primarily for line of business devices.
Have look at the current WinMo devices sold by Expansys here in the UK
Update: WinMo 6.x has been dropped as a separate category, you have to specifically search for Windows Mobile. There is the HD2/HD2 Mini and some rather expensive near indestructible rubber armoured devices.
How long before HTC drops the HD2?
I like WM because of it's flexibility, the fact that it's an open platform with lots of freeware and it's ability to function without a Google, Itunes or whatever account. You buy it, charge the battery, put in a sim card and there you go. No activation no nothing. That's simply the way it should be. Oh and by the way: Call me crazy but I actually like the UI of WM. It always offers multiple ways to do something. And lots of possibilities to customize your device of course.
i recently traded in my touch pro2 for the sensation...i didn't give up on wm, but microsoft did...i loved that platform...so versatile yet so misunderstood...
this android platform ain't too shabby tho...it's not wm but not too shabby indeed...
my signature pic says it all.....
