Hello,
When switching tasks (click on the home button, call touch X menu in the right upper corner, chose task), getting to the Touch X menu often takes two or three second. That's too long!
What should I do? Use another task switcher? Which one?
Note: is there a way to make the task switching menu with a hard key (llong press...)
Thanks
im using AEButton Plus. u can assign a taskswitcher to a key there
im using the AEButton integrated Taskmanager on the phone button.. its amazing, i press the button and the switcher comes very fast, its exactly what i need
u should try this

Is it possible to assign a real close function to a hardware button?!
I am aware of the fact that you can set the functions of the four
hardware buttons and that there is an option "Ok/Close", but even
when I have Pocket Plus and Wisbar Advance installed, it still uses
the original Close function (which in fact just minimizes the application).
If it's possible to actually close an application by pressing for instance
the calendar button (the one under the "hang up" button), you can use
the phone for 80% of the time one handed. The start menu pops up
when you hold the calendar or contacts button and press the function
key and when you have an item highlighted, holding the function key
will bring up the option menu. Now I only want a way to actually close
an application by pressing a hardware button, cause the X button in
the right-top corner is a real pain in the......
I use AEBplus and I have SPB Plus 3.0 installed.
I assign the Calendar button as follows:
- press once for Agenda Fusion Week
- press twice for Close Application (not minimize)
- press three times for Suspend (equivalent to Power button)
It is really convenient.
But how do you assign "Close Application" to a button, cause I can't seem to find that option. Or is it because I'm using Pocket Plus 2.5, is it a new function in 3.0?
Ok, it's a function in Pocket Plus 3.0!! That makes me real happy . (Only it feels a bit unstable in comparison to 2.5, but thats what you get for messing with beta's)
hey i have a herald wing mobile 6 and i use agile messenger it has a x in the top right corner, that is the only program i want to always run. is there a way to change it to a ok button so it minimizes? without changing the x button feature. almost like some program that allows you to always keep open a program you pick? thanks
You can use Start->Today function to keep it running on background. Put a shortcut in Start menu for the program you want to switch again and again.
Ok button means it will accept the changes anyhow if you will change it by mistake even you have to live with it. The X button means it can be closed but you have to use X-Button utility to enable the closing feature.
dont you get the little htc task manager then? that does exactlly what you want, tap x to minimise, tap and hold to close, it works very well
I like HTC Task Manager's feature, that enables the Quick Menu when pressing the X-button. But I would like to acces the Quick Menu with a hardkey.
Does anybody know how that can be done?
Give SPB Pocket Plus a try.

Yes, SPB Pocket Plus has the taskmanager like the Quick Menu. But the reason why I like the one from HTC - is because it is finger friendly.
I have tried the Touch Commander Suite - it has a great task manager (quick menu). But it is not that consistent in its performance - and it keeps closing down - and the only way to get it back is with soft reset. :-(
I thought he meant how to assign a hardware button ... use the button feature from Pocket Plus was my suggestion NOT the task mgr.
actually just coming in my head... do you mean HTC Action Screen. This works perfect with Pocket plus (I have it on long press PTT on my AT&T Tilt).

No, I mean the Quick Menu that you can see on the attachment.
Yes, I'm thinking about this too considering that HTC Task Manager is only available on the Today Screen. It would be nice to be able to access it while in other applications. So, I guess a hardware key mapping is the best solution. Anybody?
Pocket Plus has an "Alt-Tab" function which can be mapped to a hardware key. It'll open a window and either with the stylus or scroll wheel you select the task, press OK (or press the scroll wheel) and you are there.

If you only want to access that from today screen, HButton does a good job for that. I add the "OK/Close" function to one of the HButtons, and assign that to the "OK" button in the settings->buttons. This way I can use the "OK" button to close most of the running programs, and while in today screen, one hit on the "OK" button will bring up the list of programs in the picture you attached.

The problem with the Alt-Tab function is, that you are not able to close one (or all) of the programs - like you can with the Quick menu

Please explain. When I go under settings->buttons, I can only ad the "ok/close" function. Are you saying, that you also have an "ok" function, and when you map the ok function to a hardkey, then you have the list of the programs pop up on the today screen??

You have to install HButton.
I use Handy Menu, not free though. 4.99 I think. It also gives you some other functions, and it is configurable. I have it mapped to long press camera button.
Quick Menu 2.7 does exactly that. All you have to do is tap the start menu. a list of programs running and an X to kill them.
Much quicker than looking for a way to edit taksmanager/Xbutton3(?)
Highly recomend it. I don't use anything else.
Also, you can cook it too:
Install the app; set up your options; export the registries; make a package from the cab (for dsm/rgu ); copy the contents of the reg export to the rgu using text editor. Package complete! now you can cook it and have your options be like you need them.... and there are so many!

I did, thanks wearefree for the tip. Use HButton, its OK/Close button handling is different from OS, so it makes exactly what we need. I mapped HW button 2 on my Wizard to HButton and it simulates OK/Close. When any app is in front it minimizes it and when I'm on today it shows HTC Quick Menu.
It's kind of frustrated for me.
When I have two applications running, for example, GPS and Email reading. In order to switch to GPS from Reading, I have to click Start->Home, where I have shortcut for Task Manager. Open Task Manager, from there, I can switch to GPS application.
Any other faster ways? Really miss that TAB switching in regular Windows OS....
I personally use LMT with task fascade. They work very well with each other.
try WkTASK.
or arkswitch...

You just extract alttab.exe and copy it to your Program Files and assign a button (I assign Windows button) to it with e.g. AEBplus:
http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
Then this works just like Windows Alt+Tab by pressing just one button - you switch between your opened apps (home panel included though)
Also, you (just like me can assing a wonderful task manager
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655853&highlight=mm+task+manager
to the green button, using same AEBplus (I use green button for calling a phone maybe only twice a day). Then you have two very quick ways to see/switch your running programs
Just for info: Windows button is the very center hard button, Green button is the very left button on HD2.
I mean that I never use the green button - I just use soft button (quick link on the home) to open the Phone, so using the green button to open MM Task manager is extremely convenient.
Thanks a lot, I will try tonight.
Dutty's task manager, MMTaskManager, Showcase, XTask just to name a few of the top of my head
duttys task manager is the simplest and best

If you are using WM 6.5.x Arkswitch is the best taskmanager imo.

most apps will have a "menu>exit" option this would close the app totaly (9/10) if you just press the back button this minimizes it.
Get Touch X Taskmanager from this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584415
Once installed, on the home tab you can open a list of running apps and close or activate them from there, or you can go into the settings (wrench icon) and tell it to close apps when you click the X.
duttys
i have duttys task manager in the upper right corner bit my ROM (artrus) overlaps it with a drop- down menu.i wish there was a simple way to multitask with the option to quit. currenty now i have to minimize a program and tjenester launch a taskmanager to quit it. this becomes very frustrating at times
U can combine any Taskmanager with Ameba 0.8. Its very light and lets you decide wether you tap or hold x for closing/minimizing an app. Dont forget to also install scarecrows ameba settings 0.3 to setup ameba easier.
