Hi,
I have just gone through the beginners guide and I have couple of queries.
1. I am having WM 6.5 original ROM from HTC for my HTC Touch Diamond2 and I am planning to go for cooked ROM. If anything goes wrong with Cooked ROM, Can I able to install again the WM 6.5 original ROM from HTC?
2. Whether cooked ROM have all the applications as which came from original ROM or some of application might not available in cooked ROM?
3. Mainly are we going for Cooked ROM only for look and feel and performance or anyother benefits are there like some extra built-in applications like that..?
4. How can we make sure whether particulat Cooked ROM will fit to our device. For example all the ccoked ROM in "Topaz ROM development" will fit for HTC Touch Diamond2?
Sorry for making so much questions, because it's better to prevent than cure.
and I am very much interested with the cooked ROM. thanks.
Hi, let me try to answer based on my exprerience:
1. Once you have installed Olinex HardSPL1.83 (which is simply NECESSARY), you'll be able to flash ANY ROM of ANY country, cooked or official. Just remember to re-lock the phone (see HardSPL thread) and put an official ROM back if you ever need to send the device back for assistance covered by warranty.
2. Generally, some really useless apps are removed in order to get more free memory but they still are available around , if someone really misses them.
3. Cooked ROMs main advantage is that they have updated apps, less bugs and, as you said, more speed and stability. Cooks generally tend to leave a maximum space available so that single users decide how to use it, but I guess it's also for copyright reasons that no extra apps are added. There are exceptions..for example my ROM contains a very cool app (ported from another HTC device) that allows my phone to act like a WiFi Acces Point, which wasn't there in the official build..Anyway when a ROM is published, cooks always make a list of what was removed, added or updated.
4. Only ROMs listed in their relative phone threads will work. If you own a Touch Diamond 2 (aka Topaz), Topaz forum is the place where you will find working ROMs for it.
Ciao!
thanks for kind reply, sualc.
Ok, so I'm a new HD2 user. After using a G1 since it's release in the US (OCT 2008) I've switched to this new phone, and I know nothing about winmo 6.5 or how to tweak, move anything around. My G1 was rooted, and installing the rom was quick. Now for the questions.
1. Is it possible to put a cooked rom on my phone? I've searched around, and can't get a definitive answer. I see that the US and EU and Australian Models are all different, so I would like a definitive answer.
2. Is there a possibility of an Android Rom being cooked up for this phone?
3. Is there a possibility of a Windows 7 Rom being cooked up for this phone?
4. How do I install programs?
5. The wiki is barebones, can someone give me a small tutorial on neat tricks, tips etc. for my phone (the US model)?
Thanks, I would appreciate your help.
1. Yes it is possible, look for roms that says TMOUS compatible, I assume you know the procedure and importance of HSPL (mostly HSPL2 for your case) check (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433)
2. Not in a short future as there is no need, winmo is pretty versatile OS.
3. Don't know, don't want it.
4. Copy setup files on SD card and run from there.
5. All the tips and tricks listed here will work with your phone as well (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638)
Cheers!!
Hi all, yes sorry newbie nob here.
I have been reading this site for days & days to make sure I get it right but still not sure
If I load a HSPL and then a ROM (which one I have nooo idea) will I still have the Outlook and Office software or will that be wiped out to.
The main reason for getting the HD2 was the original functionality but I need to loose the Telstra hardcoded stuff.
thanx
There are so many Roms to choose from
Dutty, NRG, Chucky etc they are all great as they all offer different things for different users
Most will have the same stuff you are after usually called a stock Rom
others will have lots of stuff taken out LITE Roms
Choose a Rom chef and look at the Rom they are providing stick to one in the beginning to get used to flashing and read there threads they will usually have what is included at the beginning of that ROM thread if ur not sure ask in that thread most users here are very happy to help you out as we all started where you are now
To get started go to the ROM section and have a real good read at the thread on flashing your first ROM for noobs. And before you decide to do anything, re-read the first post.
Just so you get the hang of it, it is best to HSPL then flash the latest HTC ROM (this includes the main ROM and the Radio ROM). Once you feel a bit more confident, then you can go ahead any try the custom ROMs - remember that the custom ROMs will specify which Radio ROM has to be flashed prior to flashing the main ROM.
The main ROM includes the operating system, Office mobile, Manila & all the programs you already have except the operator specific ones. The Radio ROM controls all connectivity - WiFi, FM Radio, Bluetooth, GPS, telephone connections (including data) - it also has a major impact upon battery.
Thank you, thank you, thank you this answers everything (well for now)
I'll go read the Flashing your 1st ROM for Nobs AGAIN - think I've read it 10 times now lol
Oh I think I'm going to enjoy this new phone adventure

To answer this question: Most, if not all, custom ROMs contain Outlook and Office Mobile -- they are essential software in WM.
On a sidenote: It's best to try out multiple ROMs. That way, you can find one that suits you best.
I don't believe it, after weeks of being a total NOB and reading and re reading I have finally flashed a rom to my HD2 -
It was easy thank you all sooo much - now I'm hooked. lol
This may sound like a very stupid question but to be honest, i never done this before. I would like to change the ROM i have on my htc hd2. I get stuck in the process and I been searching on the web and youtube to learn how its done. Of course I dont want to brick my phone so I am cautious of what im doing. Now, I would like to put a rom like an Android one or a ROM that would get rid of all the programs i dont use..mobi tv, blockbuster, etc...Will somebody post or reply to step by step on how its done..from scratch..I will really, really appreciate the help.thx

You will need to read a bit before diving in but start HERE for the step by step.
Then Try the HD2.0 UnOff Series.
How far have you gotten on the process? do you still have a stock HD2 (or have you changed the SPL/HSPL)? is it a T-mobile version HD2(that is important to know)?
yeah, i still have the stock hd2. yeah, its the tmobile version
I would suggest reading the guide in this section
(5th thread from the top, named [TUT] Flashing your First GSM USA 1024LEO ONLY!! (For Noobs) - I would post the link but being a noob to the forums myself, I can't post links yet )
It talks all about what you need to do inorder to be able to flash a ROM on your phone.
As for Android.... there is no Android ROM for the HD2 per-say... it's actually a very basic WM ROM with the loader built in, points to the Android files that you should have on your MicroSD... and then boots into Android. If you plan on ONLY running Android on the phone... I would suggest one like Energy from NRG.... his standard TMOUS ROMs have the Android loader cooked in, and he has an "Android ROM" if you want to go that route.
Been running his 8/25 - 23569 build, been working great... real clean and FAST, and has the Android loader built in, so I get my Android fix when I want it

hi every body
im new here and i found this site very useful thanx to you developers !
i have htc touch hd from orange /uk with wm6.1 and after 1 year using it i want to upgrade the rom to the newer wm 6.5
i cant do it from the htc.com web site
so can any body help me with that ? there is so many pages in this forum so i couldnt find what the best is.
many thanks ..
btw : im not professional with installing rom, so i prefer easy way to do it with usb and computer !
A'laa
im looking for rom not very modified ...i need all the original programs come with htc hd rom 6.1 like remote desktop and gps and games..facebook, youtube... ext
thx
since this has nothing to do with development i will have to report this thread to our beloved mod Fallen Spartan
but when you already asked you can learn everything you need to know here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
and you can find a nice rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460640
(i use that one and it is faster than 6.1 so start with it,although it is a bit old it is still far better than the others IMO....but hey if you survived with stock 6.1 rom for over a year....then you won't bother with this one being released on 17. November 2010.)
almost all new roms are "1.56" so read the guide for 1.56 roms, if you use anything else your screen will look cyan and all messed up,but don't worry you can prevent it by reading or cure it by flashing the device properly with corresponding uspl/hspl (1.56 in most cases)
you don't need to bother with understanding this above right now, when you rad the guide it will be crystal clear to you
uspl unlocks the device for just one flash
hspl unlocks it forever
if your device is still under warranty i advise you to go for uspl since you won't have to flash SPL (let's say "put the lock back on") to send it for repair (flashing cooked roms voids warranty)
read, learn and search before asking something again (i am 100% sure that all questions you might ask are already answered somewhere in the forums, and if you know how to use search you can find all the answers...if not click one of links in my signature) and if everything fails, ask your question in dedicated thread such as Q&A thread in general htc hd subforum or in the tutorial thread i pointed in first part of the post
and welcome to xda-devs
Think farukb answered your queries very nicely. The rom development forum is for rom development only. All queries should be posted in General forum
The dummies guide thread near top of this forum is a step-by-step guide on how to flash roms. Post all flashing queries in that thread
As for which rom to use, try a few and make your own educated opinion afterwards
Thread moved to correct forum and closed
Sent from a little black thing with flashy lights....oooh its a phone!!!
