[App] LiveCalendar - A live folder to view next events in calendar - Android Software Development

Hi,
I have developed a live folder to show the upcoming events.
The program is very simple. Selecting the folder is searched for all calendars in the terminal and displayed active appointments in the next 15 days.
Selecting an item the event is displayed with the option to cancel or modify it.
The program is a live folder not an application or widget so, to use it, you have to press and hold on the home and than select 'folder'.
The program in in the market 'LiveCalendar': ( http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/it.nexusoneitalia.livecalendar/ )
Free to download it and send me a feedback
bye
Fabrizio R.

Does not show up in the Market using a Motorola backflip with Android 1.5.

Sorry, but in order to support multi-resolution the application is for Android 1.6 +

Then i what i do is put the whole name in the frist name field how i want it dis played and it works, there may be another way as well
Have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44809
You will have an option in the menu popup for a contact to store as First:Last.
HTH
if you're syncing with outlook you can set that as an option in the contacts page as well. sadly if you've got a bunch of contacts its going to take you a long time either way =\

New HD2 owner with a few teething problems, please help.

HI,
I'm new to HTC and Windows mobile having come from iphone. I have a few teething problems and could do with some assistance. I have searched the forums but can't quite find the answers I'm looking for.
I've synced my Gmail account but it won't retrieve my old mail, how do I do this?
How do I find files that I have dragged on dropped into the "my documents" folder on my phone. I've dragged a folder of documents inc. word docs, excell and pdf's but I can't find them on the phone. How do I open these files using excel etc on the phone?
How do I add personal ringtones for my contacts?
I have read somewhere on here about an issue when making/receiving calls where the screen turns back on and your ear starts pressing all sorts of buttons/apps, has there been a fix for this and where do I find it as my phone has been doing this?
Cheers
I've figured out how to add personal ringtones, so that question doesn't need answering now.
to recieve old emails on your gmail account you need to change how far back you would like mail retrieved. this option can be found like this
email tab, any email account, press inbox, press menu, press tools, press options
now choose the account you want to edit
pick send/recieve schedule
now you can amend your sync settings
to assign a ring tone to a particular contact:
press start, press contacts, pick the contact you wish to edit, press menu, press edit
now find the ringtone field and add the tone you desire
As for finding editing files you should download a file explorer, total commander is popular and free
Resco explorer is better (my opinion only as its more finger friendly) but is not free
hope some of this helps

Yes, big help, many thanks. Is it possible to set your email accounts so that everytime you go into the email it automatically checks for new mail rather than going into the menus and pressing send/receive? I've figured out how to change how often it checks for new mail, ie every 15 mins etc, but I would also like it to automatically check for new mail if I go into my emails
Does anyone know about the screen coming on whilst taking a call issue?
Having more problems with Gmail. The advice above worked for my inbox, but on my googlemail on my laptop I have different folders for different mail. I can't get these folders to sync with the HD2. I tried the same as above but no joy. Any help?
There should be an option for manage folders in that tools menu, where you can pick which folders to synce (I had to add one of my hotmail folders this way) should be the same for gmail I think.

How exactly do you drop to "my documents"? Do you drop to Computer\HD2\\\My Documents using the Windows explorer, or using other methods?
Normally you don't need to search for a file. Drop a Word document somewhere? Open Word, and File Open lists all the Word documents no matter where they are. Most applications have this type of pan-location file-open dialogue.

I open up my phone's card storage from "computer" on my laptop's start menu, and then simply drag files from my laptop to the "my documents" folder on the phone's card storage. I can open them using file explorer on the phone, but if I go into excel I can't figure out how to open them. When I open excel mobile it displays a blank spreadsheet and I can't figure out how to open files. Can you help?

This is a (stupid) limitation of the WinMo file system
Pocket Office programs only look in the 1st tree branch of files on a storage card- so files in Storage Card/My Documents will be listed, but files in any My Documents subfolders won't.
Files in main memory can look one level lower (ie My Documents/Business)
So, if your files are smallish in size, you may be better to store them in main memory as long as you don't have more than one level of My Documents subfolders.
Another option would be to create a shortcut to the folder holding your files in File Explorer. Tapping file names direct from explorer opens them in the linked program.

That is a strange limitation. Perhaps they may address this issue with winmo7?
How do I create shortcuts, do I do this on the phone, or active sync on the laptop?
It's a bit of a kludge, but if you decide which folder you want to create the shortcut for, navigate to that using File Explorer on the HD2, then Tap/Hold on the folder name and select Copy from the context menu
Now navigate to My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs; use the keyboard to move the cursor to any item that isn't a subfolder, and then go Menu/Edit/Paste Shortcut. This will place an entry in Programs pointing to your subfolder, called 'Shortcut to...' You can rename this to remove the 'Shortcut to..' bit, or call it something more representative.
Once it's in Programs, you could then assign one of the 9 program shortcut tiles on the home page to this shortcut. Executing it will open File Explorer at your subfolder, from where you can open any of the files.

wow, that's a process and a half
Ok so did exactly what you said and I get an error message saying
"The file "x" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. IF the problem persists try reinstalling or restoring this file"
What do I do now?
Also how do I remove things from the start menu?
If you press the Windows hardware key, can you see your new 'shortcut' there? If you press it, do you get the same error message?
It might be that the HTC Sense shortcut can't open a folder- if so I'm a bit stuck for further ideas! You could look at a program called Launchpad . This installs itself as a program launcher and is opened by pressing the top left of the taskbar- it has a number of configurable shortcuts, which can include folders and subfolders. At $3.99 it is an excellent program, though I appreciate it is a bit rich to expect to have to pay for something that ought to be in the default OS
[Edit: I wrote a review of Launchpad Here ! ]

Yeah I got the same message. No worries, I'll just have to open them through file explorer. Cheers
OK- must be a limitation of the system! Works OK with Resco File Explorer rather than the built-in one!
Might be worth a look at Launchpad- it does make life easier for a lot of program or settings launches

That's strange. I've never seen a blank sheet on excel mobile. When I start excel, it goes directly to the fileopen screen, showing me a list of xls(x) files on the device.
If you are looking at a sheet, tap OK (top right) to close it. You'll go back to the fileopen screen.

If there are no existing files for that program, Pocket Office will start with a new blank document. You only see the list once there is at least one existing file.

Thanks, didn't realise that. HOwever, it still won't recognise files probably due to the subfolder system mentioned by NeilM. I will try adding the files to the business folder later and see what happens

[REQUEST] - Email settings files/registry?

Hi,
I have recently installed a clean ROM without every email settings (I don't have Tools in the inbox menu). In missing settings, there are 2 importants for me:
- Signature (to teplace the HTC default one). I have changed the registry entry HKLM/Software/HTC/Signature but nothing changes.
- The storage time of emails on the device (7 days, 1 month...)
Does anyone know where are these settings stored on the device (registry, files).
Bye
No idea?
Perhaps the name of the exe file to launch to get these settings?
Thx
why not change the signature via the options rather than registry?
HKLM\Software\HTC\Signature Has two keys,
Default with no value set and
Name holds the signature text as a string
Not sure about the storage time, tho, sorry.
I'm a bit lost by the "storage time" question. My phone simply shows me 50 emails and that's it. If I didn't get any for a year then the same 50 emails would still be there next year.
use the Windows application instead of the HTC application and you will have access to all available settings
Thx Pat12 but how to access Windows application instead of the HTC application?
Regards

Why don't to set these after you created your first email account. Then the options are readily available.

There are two ways of doing this, the easiest way is to bypass completely the HTC Sence Email application by using either : Start -> Email or Windows hardware button -> Email
Another way is when you use the HTC application, on the first screen (with the memo-like emails displayed) click the left soft button (More) and there you are! Windows inbox !
Now, click Menu, scroll to the bottom (3 items are hidden)
Tools -> Settings -> Select your account and go from there

link appointment location in calendar to maps.

in contacts you can click "show "home" on map" link and it opens google maps and takes you to the location.
This would be very usefull if it worked off location in calendar/appointments.
I have lots of appointments with people who are not in my contacts and i don't want to have to enter them as a contact. I would like a quick way to find their address in google maps.
But it is time consuming having to pull over in the car and enter addresses into google maps.
I am sure most business people would find this usefull.
My current method is to open the appointment, menu, edit, hold on location, select all, hold on location, copy, done. Hit home key, scroll to google maps in quick links, menu, search, hold in search bar, paste, ok. then if needed - tap for options, directions, see map.
There must be an easier way
Yeah. I would like to have this feature as well. Previously, with my i780 and Garmin MXT, I can integrate Garmin location with any appointment seamlessly. But now the HTC Sense (ie calendar/appointment) fails to integrate Garmin MXT locations.
I can't believe they didn't set this up
They did it for the contacts, must not be too hard for them to set this up for appointments.
Hope someone works out a solution.
I am on the same page, here is how I would like to do it.
I start a small business such as lawn care, post my number in the paper and other ads.
1. my phone rings (555)555-1234 calls, yes I will be buy to give you an estimate, can you be reached at this number?
2. copy* number
3. open opera, open google,in google paste the number (to get the address and personal info.)
4. open google maps
5. copy and paste address in Google maps get the location on the map and directions.
6. open options menu and choose add contact.
7. open google back up and choose the persons name, copy
8. open the contact back up, add name to contact, category to suit,
9. open Pocket informant* and create a new appoitment with the new contact linked phone(to call and confirm), linked address (for directions VIA map),for the estimate.
10. add in Callcalendar2 and all calls are logged to the calendar and also to the contacts note field.
Alot of rigamarole!!!!
IDEALLY it would work like this:
1. Phone rings (555)555-1234
2. From the Phone log choose +contact
3. New? or update existing?
4. New, lookup number?(Now it would be great to just look up phone in Google maps).
5. options, add all information?, YES DONE!
This opens contact to proof, menu, create appointment, Done!
Looking forward to a good solution.
I don't need that depth of functionality. Just simply having the "Location" field in an appointment, link to google maps. Seems logical to me, and can't be any harder to do that link than it is from "address" field in contacts.
I'd love to see calendar appointment location on google maps too,
has anyone found the solution?
YES! It is working!
I create appointment on PC, put Name and Phone number in the Title box, full address in the Where box, and whatever other notes I need down below.
On my phone, in the car, tap calendar, tap appointment, tap address (it is an underlined hyperlink), already told it to use Maps to open this type from now on, VZ navigator was another choice, map opens and shows destination. Tap destination, tap navigation icon, tap "driving navigation", and it starts working.
I would like to see an option to go directly from tapping address to driving navigation, skipping all the rest. That would be nice.
Now if we could just get google to link appointments to contacts, I'd be a very happy camper!
Link function in "location" in calendar needed
Yes, I agree. This is really annoying since it worked similar on my Droid. Since I upgraded to the Samsung Charge, I do not like that I cannot simply click on the location when viewing an event and it opening up in Google Maps. This function would be extremely helpful.
Android is the answer
This is now a past issue for me.
I changed my HD2 to android 2.3.3 and that is built in - links to maps and directions. Also google maps on Android runs as a fully functioning GPS navigator.
The HD2 is so versatile and easy to run Android on. CM7 is very nice. I run Nightly's version. Just bought a Desire HD and am running Honeysense.
Windows Mobile was good (I wazs long time user) - Android is now much better.

Anyone know shortcut to HTC New Appt app?

Does anyone know how to launch the HTC new appointment tool? Is there a link or exe in a folder somewhere. Or a command line on the calendar app? I'd like to set a quicklink for it instead of clicking Calendar then new appt. One less step.
Thanks.
Yep, I'm adding appts all the time so I'd also like to know how this possible.
Thanks
PS hopefully only hours or minutes away from receiving my HD2
Bump. Anyone thanks?
i dont know how to bring up the HTC new appointment screen, but you can make one directly to the windows mobile new appointment screen (which has far more options, and of course shows up just the same in htc calendar)
on pc, new text document, paste in
26#poutlook.exe calendar -new
save it, and rename teh extension from .txt to .lnk
copy this file to your phone, and move it to windows\start menu\ and now you can assign it to a quicklink.
