Description
Android Launcher (Home app), LauncherPro adds some new and exciting features:
- Super-smooth scrolling
- Animated screen previews (like Exposé or HTC Sense)
- Up to 7 home screens
- App drawer with a fly-in effect and smooth scrolling
- Shortcut dock
cool..... Do you have a question about this app or are you introducing it to us?
Just tried it again I think but anyhow it's cool but takes too long to switch to landscape mode and you can't change the shortcuts like in helix. On another note cool trick i learned for those who don't have root download pandahome which is a real cool launcher but kinda slow and change the lockscreen to the iphone lockscreen and when you remove pandahome the lockscreen will stay. And then you can go to something faster like say helixlauncher
Landscape takes longer the first time you rotate. Also, it depends on your ROM. I am running Fresh 2.1.2 and it is almost tolerable as far as how fast it is in rotating to landscape. 3 seconds to rotate the screen, 3 more to load the widgets. As far as customizing the bottom like helix, the dev says that this will be included in his next update. I admit, I do like this feature in helix, but the boring app tray turned me off of it.

yeah the app tray does suck in helix. I used them both in the stock ruu which I don't have to say is the fastest and beta is slow slow so if you know the dev ask him to work on the speed some how and it will definitely be killin helix. Also I know that there are two different methods for making an app switch to landscape mode he/she should try them both.
I can't speak for the comparable speeds cause they are both running very fast on Fresh 2.1.2. Both blow away sense.

To the hell with the both of them zeam launcher is where it's at kills em both on speed
Zen's MT3G Slide ROM also has a landscape home screen built in.

Zeam and LauncherPro were neck and neck on my Fresh 2.1.2 build...but LauncherPro's launcher (app drawer, not sure if launcher is the actual name for that, lol) was a bit faster and scrolled smoother.
I wish the devs working on these launchers would make the eye candy transitions optional - I don't want eye candy, I WANT SPEEEEED!!!
Zeams Achilles heel is the limited list of optional side buttons but eh app drawer scrolls faster than any home I've tried.
Helix is plain as it gets but I like it best so far.
Just a heads up for everyone, LauncherPro now supports customization of the links on the bottom with the update he pushed last night. All you have to do is long press on each icon and it pops up the shortcuts menu to allow customization.
Anybody recommends another’s Home Replacements APPS?

0.4.1 ?
i only have 0.30 via the market :/
0.4.4 is out. market has a problem so grab the apk from www.launcherpro.com
I think that this is the best launcher replacement by far. Very smooth and light.
I love this launcher as well.
I have a stupid question however. They talk about "drawers" a lot...what is this feature?

I prefer Launcher Pro to the other apps I have tried like Helix, ADW - loving the amount of customisation you can do with it and how snappy it is as well.
As for a 'drawer' well thats the part you pull up where all your apps are found
Is that all? Why do they make it sound like such a huge feature? I have been looking for a widget or setting and found nothing.
Thanks for clearing that up for me
I have 0.4.4 version. Best launcher for me, better than adw launcher
So, What the name of the clock-htc-like-widget?

Can someone tell me how to change the icons on the dock. I know if you hold on them you get a very specific list of things you can put on their but gmail and the calendar arent even ones you can pick. I like those on my dock. is that possible??

Froyo Bugs
Has anyone else encountered the problem of not being able to install custom icons? It fc's
Also, LauncherPro on Froyo has an app2sd problem that sd apps do not load until LauncherPro is restarted.
I was thinking about using the Script Scheduler I found on this site to kill then restart LauncherPro at every boot, but my bash skills are woefully inadequate. Anyone think they can give me a hand?

works flawlessly on my milestone with GOT Thai ver...
I just switched from sense to Launcher Pro Beta, and I must say that it is amazing... It's just so much more predictable and useful, not to mention faster and smoother. On top of that, from what I have heard, it is great for battery life, just switched so I haven't had a chance to test that out yet.
If you haven't given it a shot yet, download it from the market and try it out, I promise you will not regret it. Its MUCH better than sense. I never had a problem with sense, but I just figured Id try something new, and it paid off...
P.S Does anybody know if the new software patch that came out today will be included in any of the developers roms? I'm not to sure how that stuff works.
ADW.Launcher is also a worthy alternative, imo. Very customizable.

And yes, LauncherPro is definitely the best launcher that I've used! I love it!

Press the Home key, and you should get an option to select between HTC Sense, Launcher, and LauncherPro. If that doesn't work, just download Home Switcher from the Market.

I loved the extra speed and how the shortcuts were laid out. I also liked that you didnt have to have the writing under each icon. BUT I missed my full screen calendar, toggle widgets, etc. So Im back to sense. I dont have access to these when using a different launcher. Am I doing something wrong?

You can't use HTC widgets outside of the Sense launcher. However, there are replacement widgets in the Market for almost everything you are missing. For example, Pure Grid Calendar Widget and Weather & Toggle Widgets.

I played around with it after that post, but just couldnt get it how I wanted it AGAIN. So Im back to sense haha. I really need 6 icons on the dock at the bottom to avoid extra icons on my home screen. I also wanted a 4G toggle to match the rest, and that doesnt seem to be out. The only one out (that I could find) is a light bulb..

You know with LauncherPro you can change it to 5 rows of icons (20 total) on the screen at once, right? You can potentially have 28 more slots than with Sense.

Im talking about JUST the dock at the bottom. Not shortcuts added to the screen itself. Right now I have the rosie bar at the bottom that launches my app drawer/phone/etc. Then I have 4 icons above it. Handcent, Gmail, Internet and People. With LauncherPro I can have all 4 of those on the dock, but then the 5th spot is taken by either the app drawer or phone. I want both. I know you can do the scroll thing, but its not the same. I just like a simple look and wanted everything I have now on my HOME screen.
Here is the setup now. I want all of the same access on the home screen, and it cant be done with LauncerPro. 5 short cuts on the dock and then a random widget on the screen just wouldnt look as clean.

ADW.Launcher works pretty good.
A few things I like:
- You can make as many columns and rows of Icons as you want per screen (up to 8 x 8, so that would be 64 icons per screen).
- Swipe down anywhere on a screen to make the top bar come down
Launchers of like Touchwiz, iPhone, MIUI and DELL android tablet use those squared backgrounds for the icons on their home screen.
I've searched XDA for a themer/dev who has done this but no luck.
People seem to rather remove the iPhone's icon style but I think it looks nice.
Now I want to achieve this effect on a Sense or non-Sense based ROM without photo shopping every icon.
So is there a way to mod a Standalone Launcher like LauncherPro or ADW to have this icon style?
I'd love to help if any dev wants to give this a shot.
Thanks.
I know there are roms with those iphone-style backgrounds... here is one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688687
*note this rom is only compatible with the eris* *it has been ported to other htc phones though*
Also the mytouch slide has bubbles behind each icon,
Also if you install touchwiz3.0 launcher (ripped from a galaxy s phone) it puts a random coloured sqaure behind each icon, im sure you can edit those square to have what you want
Edit: Those bubbles are what is featured above
Thanks for the replies, the thing is I want this effect on the HTC Desire which I have installed a Sense ROM (Froyo) on.
I would rather not which to another ROM just to have squared backgrounds.
This is why a Launcher would be the perfect solution.
I think the touchwiz3.0 launcher wouldn't work on my ROM but I'll try!
EDIT: I tried the touchwiz and it works! But the "bubbles" only show in the app drawer.
Here's a *.png of a square I made.

That would leave me making icons for apps who don't have an iPhone icon.
I'm not looking for that kind of solution.
I want it to have a square behind every icon automatically so to speak.
The DELL tablet ROM and the MIUI ROM does exactly what I want but.
I looked to port it over but that wouldn't work as the whole thing is different.
I've been searching for the same thing, with no luck. The Touchwiz launcher only puts the icon backgrounds on the dock, like you said, and I can't find the modified launcher that the MyTouch 4G uses to put on my EVO.
I'm currently running MIUI, which is awesome, except my battery life is pretty terrible compared with the stock (or modified stock) Sense ROM.
I guess I'll keep searching, and if anyone has any more suggestions, please post them here.
ADWLauncher EX can do this. It's not free though. I am sure it is possible to code it into any Launcher, but how you do that is beyond my capabilities.

Cool. Thanks!
Awesome! Just bought it, now I'm downloading the latest EViO ROM and dumping MIUI- the random restarts (although seldom), the wifi drops, and the terrible battery life unfortunately outweigh the really nice UI.
I was looking for some good launchers to try out and I came across this new one called Go Launcher.
I've been using LauncherPro from the beginning and thought I would never leave.
Go Launcher is an amazing home replacement app for Android .
-Extremely smooth scrolling
-Convenient icon pop-menu
-Gesture supported
-Useful app drawer to uninstall apps and kill tasks
-Removable screen previews (Up to 30 screens)

Things I like:
- When adding icons from drawer to homescreen, it shows screen previews first so you can choose which screen you want it on.
- More screens (30)
- Multiple docks
- Gestures
- Recent apps, uninstall apps right in the drawer
- Ability to rename icon labels (or remove labels)
- Replace icons instead of removing then adding new one
Like I said, this Launcher is awesome and is comparable to LauncherPro and ADW for sure!

How can I remove a homescreen? I only need three, but the default is 5.
Also, I created some icons that I am using with LauncherPro. LauncherPro lets you select icons from the gallery, so I was doing that. How do I make my icons selectable in Go Launcher?
Figured it out. You do the pinch action to see all your screens at once, and you can close them from there.

Try GO Launcher, it has swipe up/down also.
Only thing is it's not in the Market but you can side load it plus it's jsut not as good as ADW EX but that's just my opinion.
On the plus side it has gestures and you can resize widgets like the default launcher

Only if we could have ADW + Stock top (with the My Apps and + button)
that would be PERFECT.
From what I've read on the adw thread in the theme forum, the developer is working on being able to get rid of that top adw button and quite possibly even getting rid of that whole upper section too.
I tried Launcher pro and even optimized it but it still didn't feel as smooth and responsive as adw. I honestly think adw is perfect except for that top icon section.
