Hey guys,
I have a 32B my touch 3g and I was following http://theunlockr.com/2010/04/26/how-to-root-the-htc-mytouch-3g/ this guide to root. I flashed the sappimg.npg to go from 1.6 -> 1.5. The problem is, I can't seem to activate the phone! When I turn on the phone after the flash, I get to the http://techblog.aasisvinayak.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/device22.png Touch android to activate screen. The sim that I'm using does have a data plan. I used the sim in my roomates phone and he is able to get on the internet.
When I type in my google info, it tries to connect to the server, but fails and I get this error:
"Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server.
This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card may not be proivisioned for data services. If it continues, callCustomer Care."

Anyone have any clue where I should go from here?

Just skip that step and activate your wifi. After you activate wifi then connect to a wifi network and sign in with your gmail account. I've encountered this problem when I've flashed a new rom. I guess when you flash a new rom you disconnect from the network so you don't have data for a bit. Don't worry your phone will automatically connect and keep a stable connection eventually. Just be patient.
I can't connect to wifi, I'm still using the stock ROM.
What? You can't connect to wifi using the stock rom?

Unfortunately not =/
That doesn't make sense. You should be able to use wifi even with the stock rom. I'm not sure why you can't sign into wifi with the stock rom. Just try signing in a couple times and eventually it'll ask you if you want to sign in later. Then just click yes. After that connect to a wifi network and sign in from there.
The only way to register your handset is through cellular data I don't think there's away around that if your root process was successful I'd suggest trying a different rom or wiping and trying again or let your phone set for awhile maybe its having trouble registering with the network this does happen so be patient

I was in the process of rooting, but didn't get very far. I downgraded from 1.6 to 1.5, and thats when the data stopped working.
It seemed to registered, but no data is being downloaded =/
Sounds like a step was missed somewhere I would try wiping and starting from scratch and make sure your magic is a 32b an not a 32a also when yöu install your rom make sure its something stable for your version of magic

I'm using the right steps for the right version of the phone. I haven't flashed any cooked roms yet, just the standard ol' stock one.

I bought a G1 from someone off of ebay and he said it doesnt recieve signal. I figured I could buy and maybe fix it. The radio is not updated but they wiped the phone before I got it, so now im stuck at the google account sign in with no service. Does anyone have any ideas or do I just need to call up HTC and send the phone in for repairs?
thanks and God bless
try to go through the process of rooting the phone... That may fix some of the issues
but how can I root the phone if i cant get pass the Google account screen? Ive done the bootloader already...nothing happened....i flashed to crb43...that worked but it still didnt solve anything....ive tried to update the radio to the newest but it says "no signature (5 files)"...verification failed. Is there anything that I can do?

what do you mean can't get passed the account screen?
like you try to sign in and you can't?
If you still can't sign in, try using a different ROM like TheDude's and try bypassing the sign in. Maybe you can get it to the main screen and try running some debugging tools and such.

yea cause i dont have any service cause the phone doesnt get any signal....like thats how i bought it..something is wrong with the radio (i guess)...like i just want to use a different ROM that you can skip the account process on so i can ROOT then try to upgrade the radio to see if it will work....but dont you have to have ROOT in order to flash stuff?

well if you are trying to create an account from your phone with no signal, just to sign up on a computer.
the screen does give you an option to skip the sign in process.
what build are you on?
go HERE to get help on bypassing the activation.

Only for ADP1
op: Look in the dev forum helpful threads sticky for a link to activating w/o google account. Also, as a previous poster said, you might want to just do the whole rooting process. Downgrading to RC29 will revert both the radio and android build.
The official OTA CRB43 includes the new radio. If that's what you flashed and it didn't help, flashing the radio isn't going to cure your issue.
Haykuro's IonR2 also gives you the option to skip sign in.
hmmm so i guess i just need to call up htc CC and make up some bogus story saying that cupcake fried my radio....cause i cant even get signal...
i actually had 2 bars last night... so i was able to sign inn and use wifi...but it just randomly cut off....and i wiped my phone....without thinking
so i guess ill give htc a call
Lost signal now at RC29 w/old radio
But I cannot figure out how to proceed. I have been rooting modding for a year now and suddenly lost my signal while the phone was just sitting on my desk. loaded recovery still didn't work, went back to RC29 stupidly and now cannot get newer ADP build loaded because I cannot login past account screen and my Adb isn't working because my phone is not recognized via USB. Is there a secret to that pre-account login? Thanks for any help I have a $400 paperwight right now.
You should be able to enable wifi and login to google. I just went through this process since I don't have any service on the sim i'm using in the g1
--fg
what was the selllers name o ebay. i did the same exact thing and when i got it i updated everything and nothing worked.. i sent it in to htc cause it was under warranty. i told them the truth and its been repaired just waiting on fed ex to deliver it. they replaced the main board and antenna wire
similar problem
sorted: the issue was sim card being faulty.
i recently got an old UK G1 from my brother.
It keeps saying 'no service'. I have downgraded it to RC7 for purpose of rooting but it still says 'no service'.
I was able to bypass initial registration process using adb.
The phone is connecting well to wifi. It is also able to search 'available networks' but does not connect with tmobile.
I have asked for another sim card (it will take a few days to arrive) thinking that the problem is related to sim card but could i be wrong?
Is this problem related to hardware?
Is it possible that wifi, bluetooth and searching network works well and still the hardware is faulty?
what are your thoughts?
Hi all!
Noob logging in here. Finally I thought of upgrading myself from Sony Ericsson Symbian S60 System to a more modern Android. So I got myself a MyTouch off of Clist.
I dont have any internet package. I wish to use the phone with my current SIM.
I have been reading for the past 12-14 hours on how to..... root, load rom, gold card, and so on.... I do understand most of the stuff.
What I can't seem to achieve is HOW TO GET PAST THE INITIAL LOG IN SCREEN, when I DONT have a SIM with access?!
Is the answer basically NONE?!
Hi there,
While on the screen with the Android, try to tap the corners of the screen in this order : top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left
It should get you right to the homescreen
Most of the dev ROMs have the option to skip the log in process when you first boot up.
just tapped on the screen as suggested, and it didn't do anything. just booted as usual. Do I need to put a SIM in the phone when I do this?
you need to order data for a day to get past the google sign in or use a friends sim hope i helped
can I flash a rom onto this phone without rooting it first. Meaning, since I dont have an option to get internet on a phone for a day, can I flash a logged rom onto this? is there such a thing or is it just my imagination? thanks.

Just booted as usual? when did you actually do it? you have to do this while on the screen where it says "Touch the Android to begin". Maybe I wasn't clear enough... there's a screenshot of what I meant on this page... but yes you need a SIM card in the phone to get there, I think.
Rooting the phone
Short answer: YES, you do need data plan; no other way. I ended up asking a friend with a SIM & data plan to finish the initial steps.
Some said the tapping method works, but seems like a lot couldn't get it through. In order to root the phone for installing custom rom, you follow the steps in here:
h t t p://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_MT3G/Magic_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
Downgrading from 1.6 TO 1.5 and Rooting for T-Mobile MT3G
*Note: Data Plan required!
The stock ROM requires you to have a data plan, and to downgrade the MyTouch3G into a 1.5 version will NEED you to have a data plan to get pass the activation.
It didn't work for me either. Too bad we can't get around this with out a data plan. anyway....

So according to this a data plan is required through out the rooting process?
upgraded my rom from my sig to HTC rom seen here
http://www.htc.com/us/support/mogul-sprint/downloads/
now i cannot access any data plan stuff.. no internet, etc... what can i try to get this working?
i reinstalled the rom in my sig and it isnt working either...
i know that the custom rom installs and you install the sprint carrier (in my case)
and it worked.. this isnt working now...
so i am flashing back to the OEm... which also took my radio back to 3.42.02 so i flashed that back to 3.42.50 and still no luck....
may just take it over to sprint to have them flash it... it will have the htc rom
Do a search.
There is a restore function on data connections that will reinitialize the data connection settings.

never heard of that one. You may have lost your "A" key. Try loading the rom you want with the radio you want, provision it and call sprint to reactivate it. This has happened to me way too many times to count.
I recently installed win 7 on hd2 and activated, everything was working including market but now i dont have 3g service only wifi
i tried setting the apn according to tmobile u.s. Settings and did not work .i tried using the app for the market connection set up and ran the app it said that the device has been set up .but no 3g either..PLUS I CANT SEND PICS IN MY TEXT MESSAGES .any ideas

do what you have already tried but set it for a different network, restart, then change it back to your actual network, also try reseating your SIM card.
Worked for me, hope it works for you too!
what type of apn setting do you recommend
initially change it to anything other than your network
so, if i was on orange, i would change to O2, restart, then change it back to orange and restart
HTC tool should help with your settings or use google
so, google "T-Mobile US APN settings" without quotes if t mobile US was your network
i tried what you suggested no luck in the u.s. the sttings are suppose to be epc.tmobileus.com but still does not work
long shot but try giving your SIM card a clean and stick it back in, another longshot is try installing WITHOUT an SD card, just curious if that is another one of the issues that can happen with a incompatible card, yeah i know the rest is working fine but try it and see, you never know!
other than that im running out of ideas...
did you download the htc data connection app from marketplace, or can you, to automatically configure your hd2 for tmous?
why were you manually trying to configure your hd2 for t-mobile network?
best bet is to re-flash since it worked before.
the 3g service stopped working when activated the phone .... market works but i can only log in through wifi and i did download htc connection set up and ran the app it said that the apn was set . but when i tried to run internet explorer its says no data service.

use epc.tmobile.com... That's the one I used worked fine. Now I just use connection setup to setup my mms messages also.
Also stupid question is the 3g switch on in settings.
I've got the same Problem....
I'd the same Problem on Nand Android so i decided to switch to win7. But same Problem here. If i have 3g enabled i got no Service at all. If i disable 3g i got Service and Data Connection begins to work.
See this Thread in Android section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971920
So any hints how to get 3g working?
Phil
start again,
flash a stock original ROM for your device, put it all the way back to WM6
you will need to SD card flash this ROM
then go through all the steps, HSPL, Radio, magldr then try WP7
when things dont add up its often best to start from scratch.
I've done exactly that when i migrate from android to WP7. The only thing remains on the Phone was HSPL. And after all (installing MAGLDR and so on) the Problem persists.

if hspl was still on then you didnt stock original ROM flash via SDcard
you need to download an official ROM from whoever sold the phone
doing that will remove hspl, reinstall the spl, radio and the ROM
make sure its an old ROM with a 1.4x SPL, then install hspl again, 2.08
Ok I've done what you tell me.
I have a Device from Vodaphone Germany and i can't find any Rom with 1.4x. The oldest i found was 1.72.
I extracted the Rom and copy the LEOIMG to the sdcard. Power on Phone with Vol down and flashed the ROM with sdcard. Reboot the Phone and all cames up fine.
Power down Phone and wen't into SPL Mode, installed HSPL, updated Radio to 2.15.50.14 and installed MAGLDR 1.13.
After this i flashed my WP7 Rom and let it boot. Choose all my seetings in the wizzard. Enter my LiveID credentials and tapp on login. And after a few seconds i get the Message the Phone could not Connect!
But it seems this is another issue cause i got a big "H" and full Service.
Thank you very much!

am i right in thinking that was different to the previous problem, where it would only connect with 3G disabled?
if thats the case that happened to me as well, i had to do the HTC connection wizard trick, change it to something else, restart, change it back again, restart
everytime i flash i have to do that which isnt too much of a pain
So I have been using MetroPCS on my Moto G5 Plus since I got it. Well today I went and activated my device with the Sprint network... It wasn't working when I left the store, and I told the rep how it was modified (using RessurectionRemix 5.8.4 Final), that I would work on setting it up.
Well, so far no success in activating it... Have tried changing network mode to CDMA/LTE and messing around with dialer codes, still can't get anything besides "emergency calls only."
Anyone have experienced getting this phone activated with Sprint?
Note: they did tell me they didn't have the exact, or "recommended," SIM card for my device, and that it was a secondary option they used in the system(?).

I am using that SIM, got it working when I reflashed stock. Did not work again when I restored RR, at least fully, as I was able to get data to work minus SMS/calls.
I'm on Sprint. No issues with any Roms.
You need to be on a stock build for the initial setup, because the custom roms remove all of the PRL stuff. Once it is setup once, flash whatever you want.

It doesn't stick after I flash a custom ROM
That's really odd. I don't have that problem...
Make sure you have APNs on the custom rom. I saw a problem a while back that the custom rom didn't keep the APN for some reason, and I had to put it in manually. Different device, but same problem.

Can you tell me what your APN info is? I have data and calling working now, but no LTE option (see screenshot)
I have mine set to global.
I had this same issue with my s6, and I ended up having to factory reset the phone, and redoing the PRL update, and the option finally came back.
Just to follow up, I was able to get full LTE and calls to work by flashing stock ROM, updating PRL, and by then it was provisioned on the Sprint network.
As it stands now, if I reinsert my MetroPCS sim card, it is provisioned for MetroPCS no problem, but I do have to reflash stock again each time I want to provision for Sprint.
So thats how I am going to run things for now, by making backups and getting it provisioned using stock before restoring.
this worked for me

theres an ap on the play store called apn backup and restore. install it on stock rom . b4 using it u need to go in system/apps and move the apk to system/priv/apps once moved changed permissions to r-w-r-r. after that a quick reboot and open app change setting to disable ics check and do a backup . once finished do the same thing on new rom and mine works flawlessly. im on boost which is also on sprint network. good luck hope this helps
