Exchange Missing Messages - Droid Incredible General

Anyone else having intermittent issues with messages not appearing on your Incredible but showing up in your Inbox when viewed through Outlook or OWA? I have had many occassions where an email mysteriously disappears from the Incredible but is still in the mailbox on the server.

A co-worker of mine had the same exact problem. At first, I thought he was on crack, but he showed me his phone and outlook client.
There were definitely messages missing from the phone. Not sure why his phone was doing it (sync settings and everything seemed fine).
You're definitely not the only one who's seen this problem. Damn shame too, my co-worker took the Incredible back to Verizon and is back on his iPhone.

More mail problems

When retrieving my mail from one particular account it can only get the headers. When it goes to 'Receiving folders' it just hangs there for ages. My other e-mail accounts are fine. Any ideas?
I have the exact same problem. Have you found a "cure" for this? Funny thing is that it's been fine and randomly kicked in, yet the incoming e-mail comes from my dedicated server, so nothing has changed there.

Gmail - "inbox" label disappearing

Hey there,
I just love the Hero. There are a couple of minor things that I hope will be fixed at some point.
One big gripe I have is that sometimes my "inbox" label disappears and emails that were supposedly in my inbox are only found with the "all mails" label. Once, my entire inbox was cleaned out this way, but more frequently random mails are moved to the "all mails" folder. Synchronization with desktop works flawlessly, so the same appears then on my desktop.
Anyone else has this, or is this my imagination? If so, I guess it's some kind of bug with the gmail synchronization mode...
Thanks.
not had this yet, and i've not heard of anyone else getting it.
you're not checking it on your PC or anywhere else by Pop 3 are you? cos gmail does some strange things when you access it by POP3, whereas IMAP seems to work fine...
nope, not checking on pop3 (i did some time ago). and this inbox label disappearing thing started some days after i got my hero...

Gmail activesync slow

Can anyone help me out. I seem to be getting my messages around 7 to 10 minutes from the time it hits my desktop. I have set the settings to As items arrive on both peak and off peak and set that MON through to Sun.
Secondly as soon as I send an email from the phone it sends a copy to my inbox and cant seem to turn that off.
In Google Mail, I have Imap enabled but POP3 turned off.
Thanks for the help guys.
Just trying to prop this to top to see if anyone has a tip or two :-(
Got the same problem. Found a solution? Anyone else?
For the copy to inbox issue, check that you choose "Reply" and not "Reply all"
I've come to the conclusion that ActiveSync to Google services is not worth the hassle.
Four main reasons mobile GMail is a "fail" for me:
1/ Receiving ActiveSync messages is no-where NEAR real-time.
Example, I sent my GMail account a message 45mins ago. I can see it in my GMail inbox, but even though my activesync status shows as "connected" it's yet to appear on my phone.
Edit: OK, I just qualified my testing - msgs sent to GMail are near-instant. Messages sent to my pop3 account, which gmail checks, take considerable time to come through.
2/ Syncing existing Calendar appointments SPAMS all meeting attendees!
Example, I synced my phone calendar to gmail via ActiveSync, and gmail decided that it should send out a NEW meeting invitation to all recipients of every past & future appointment I'd ever *accepted*.
Old appointments like the 2009 Company Christmas Party were re-sent to everyone in the company from my GMail account!
I was not a popular boy.
3/ Sync'd Contact photos are very poor quality. Try it!
The online photo is extremely bad quality compared to the original in your phone. This becomes even more of an issue if you wipe your phone and re-download them from google. You've now just lost your original HQ photo.
4/ With Gmail set as an activesync connection, you're unable to change your reply-to address. You're forced to send as your gmail.com account.
With regular POP/SMTP, you can "send-as" any address you want. Gmail is not my primary email address, and I don't want people replying to it.
So for me, I've reverted to POP/SMTP for emails (send/receive every 10mins), and the MS My Phone service for backing up contacts, calendar, etc.

In all fairness, Gmail had some pretty serious outages the last couple of days. If the email has been even slower lately, that's probably why.
That said, I found the Gmail Activesync solution pretty unreliable as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=626461&highlight=telstra+email+sync&page=2
Dont know whether anything in this will help?? I'm not using Gmail .. sorry
I don't have a problem using Google Sync. It's pretty instantaneous (almost on par with Blackberry). Just make sure you've set Activesync to receive items as soon as they arrive on both peak and off peak times (or set whatever interval you're comfortable with).
Yes. My only gripe is with the crap contact photos that are resynced back to the phone. GRRR!!
Works fine for me most of the time, but apparently for the past 15h or so it keeps failing, wanting me to resync everything every 20mins saying the Exchange server had a problem and not giving me all elememts that should be there.
hmm.. got no problem in the last 24h..
someone response in the pict of me and my wifey, we both got the notification almost the same time.. (my wife's using Blackberry)
While trying to find a solution to my unrelated mail problem I came across this .... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584167
i don't think ActiveSync is as reliable (at least for gmail) on Windows Mobile as it is for iPhone. I have both set up to push all day and without fail the iPhone gets my mail first. sometimes it can take up to ten minutes for mail to arrive on my HD2. I even don't always get it when I push send/receive. This problem has continued for weeks, regardless of whether I use a stock or custom ROM
Another annoyance I'm having lately is that even though my phone is set to retrieve ALL mail I'm only getting mail from as far back as february. this is also happening on my iPhone and had been an issue for weeks now. Anyone know what might be the cause???
Maybe your mail from before Feb is not in yout "Inbox" anymore, but archived (visible in "All mail")?
Hello
I have the same problem. The service is quite slow. My friend has Iphone and is arrives in 5 seconds.
I also hate the low res contact pics that get sync'd, have not been able to figure out why yet.
thats weird, i just set up push gmail today, and i receive emails at the EXACT same time as my desktop google talk... that is, around 2-3 seconds after emailing myself from another account
I was just setting up the google sync on my phone but I was unable to "check mark" the calendar and contacts, is that because I didnt set this up on the computer? I keep seeing people say active sync so I guess I have to do this on the computer?
Sorry for bringing an old thread up, just playing with my HD2 and thought I would use the search box and see if anyone had some answers..
Thanks
Kyle

How do you retract the invites emails from gmail??
oh dear, you too?
AFAIK, you can't recall or retract messages sent from GMail.
Fortunately I am an Exchange Admin for my company, and used the ExMerge tool to sweep everyone's mailboxes & calendars to *move* to PST any messages received during that finite time window starting with "Invitation: " (I think it was).
Unfortunately ExMerge can't sweep based on the sender.

Weird Email issues on TmoUS rom

I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing the issues I am and if they were able to correct it.
I have two gmail addresses, One personal and one for business.
I have Thunderbird 3.0.4 setup on my laptop using gmail's IMAP
gmail online and Thunderbird on my laptop work good together and they both match (Messages/folders) as they sync constantly under IMAP.
I get my HD2 on the 24th of March. I set up both my personal and business email addresses on my phone (Using IMAP) with settings to download all messages... I click send/receive and nothing downloads to my phone...
None of my sent or to do messages sync with gmail and show up in my folders on my phone....
When new mail comes in sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't.... When I get home and check my Laptop I find all kinds of emails that my phone never got.
If I send an email from my phone, it sends fine, receiver gets the email ok but again, there is nothing in my sent folder (even with the "save sent mail in sent folder checked in settings)
I understand the purpose of IMAP is so all email clients sync and share the same information. This isn't the case with my phone.... I've deleted my email accounts and reinstalled them paying particular attention to the settings and each time I have the same end results....
Is anyone aware of a problem with this email client on the HD2.....or could it be gmail? I dunno, I can say I've never had any problems from gmail or Thunderbird before so it's very annoying not getting my email, especially my business emails
I even emailed gmail tech support and they said its my phone.... I guess I should of expected that response.
Anyone got any suggestions???
Thanks

Gmail Solution

Here it is. Go Into your Gmail settings on your desktop computer. click on settings in the upper right corner, click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP, disable IMAP and enable POP for all email. I also selected delete Gmail when accessed with POP.
This solves the problem with email notification not disappearing immediately after you click on the email, it gets you all your email promptly and it does not show emails in your inbox, for ex. you have 3 unread emails, you go to check and there are not any? So it fixes that issue. It syncs perfectly with the desktop sever. I had constant problem with above issues. So yeah the culprit seems to be IMAP. I tested this on Froyo and 2.1 Vanilla. Works for both. I imagine it will work on Sense too.
I just noticed this problem last night.. the Gmail Unread Count widget tells me 6 new emails, the Gmail app says Inbox (6) at the top, but there are no unread messages! Going to Gmail on my desktop shows no mention of these 6 supposedly unread emails.
Just tried your trick, but the problem's still there. Running Froyo here.

I'm in the US, maybe that makes a difference. Also on stock froyo. It works perfect now. Make sure you have changed your settings correctly. I checked settings again and posted information is correct.

So what exactly is the gmail problem that requires this solution? Your description is quite convoluted and confusing. Email notification not disappearing when you expect it to, or messages not showing in your inbox? Either way seems to me like nxt says. Probably just a case of your mail being hidden in your SPAM label.
Notification tells me there is new gmail. I tap the notification and read the mail. Return to home screen and notification has gone. Bog standard and it works perfectly fine for me.

I'm in the U.S. too, on T-Mo.
I tried the old 'lets reboot and see what happens', and now it's all working perfectly. Thanks for the tip!
Does no-one else use gmail push via the normal email app?
androidforums.com/motorola-droid/36326-how-get-push-gmail-email-app.html
I guess there's a lack of features when compared?

Cool. Good you figured it out. I'm glad helped out someone. I couldn't figure out why everytime I checked my inbox there wouldn't be any messages. I went to desktop and saw the messages in my inbox that I had already read. Also once you click on notification you have to hit back arrow to get the notification to disappear. Solved that as well.

This happens to all versions of android. Its just not syncing with gmail correctly, so you phone shows no new emails, but says thier is 5 unread. If you log on to gmail you will see emails you marked as read unread. All you got to do to fix is to mark them as read from within gmail web client.

What do you mean by "Phone....says there is 5 unread". I assume you mean the Gmail client on your phone lists them in BOLD? If so, how can you say in the next breath "If you log on to gmail you will see emails you marked as read unread" ? You have just said they are unread on the Phone side, so why would you expect to see them as marked read in gmail web client.
I can toggle messages on the phone between read and unread and within a few seconds the changes are reflected in the gmail web client. So all good here.
Perhaps it can happen to all version but it does not happen to everyone. If it was a widespread issue, I think we would be hearing a lot more fuss about it. My Gmail works fine and does not do what you describe. I have IMAP enabled.

Honestly, the stock GMail app works like a charm for me; I haven't had to do any changing on my accounts. Heck, I was able to sync my University of Phoenix e-mail account as we use GMail as well.
Easy fix
All you have to do is select on labels, go to all mail, it will show a message you have previously read as unread. Then just mark it read again and problem is solved.

This has happened to me on a few occasions too. What he means is that when you get a Gmail notification THEN you check it with your phone and lets say you delete it with your phone. However, the next time you get sent an email and get a notification, when you check your gmail it will list your unread emails as (2) instead of (1). When you go into your gmail application to check, it also says unread (2), BUT you will only see one email.
Now if you go and check your Gmail using your computer, you will see both the emails, the one you read then deleted and the one you just received.
I know this is not a widespread problem because this has happened intermittently to me and has not happened for a while.
But good job on finding a fix for those that do suffer this small but annoying sync problem.

This is the bit where you guys have me confused. The only way I can tell unread messages in the gmail on my phone is by the bolding and the corresponding number in brackets in the header. So I cannot see how you can get the conflicting info within the gmail app itself on the phone?
Inbox (2)

Clearly I am missing something obvious. I can conceive how the Gmail notification bar indicator count could differ. But I cant see where you see the difference within the android gmail app itself. Is it that you get a different number of bold messages to the number in brackets?
In any case - main thing is you got the problem sorted I guess.
I used to get the gmail error but since upgrading to 2.2 beta it works so smoothly now.
Why are you redirecting your gmail account to the email application through exchange anyways?
The gmail application supports push.

Basically the number in the brackets show you have 2 unread emails but your phone gmail client isn't showing any unread messages. They are all gray and read. Then if you log on to the web client you will see 2 unread messages.
Its just a simple sync issue.
Better solution to the sync issue (where for example the phone says Inbox(2) but shows no unread messages):
Manage applications, filter all, Gmail Storage. Clear data. Then re-open Gmail and let it resync. This always fixes it for me.
I only ever get this problem after a) flashing a new ROM or backup, or b) turning on a phone I haven't used in a while.
