Canadian Xperia Play on AT&T

Anybody planning on buying the off contract Rogers version of the Xperia Play (R800a) to use on AT&T? The big release day is tomorrow...

Im wondering about this too. Ive been wanting a xperia play since before it was announced. Problem is, Im with Bell. Just want to be sure I can unlock it and use it with my current carrier instead of Rogers.

I emailed Mobileincanada.com if they could do it and they replied yes. I was referred to them by a fairly knowledgeable guy on Howard Forums who used them in the past. They will purportedly refund your unlock if it doesn't work...
I would go buy one and try but I don't live in Canada, heh. The nearest Rogers store is over 6 hours away from me and no guarantee they will have stock when I get there.

Looks like im gonna have to do a little recon mission. I think they have a Xperia play on display in my mall. Ill have to see if I can get the IMEI and check that website to be sure.

A tutorial on how to unlock your Xperia Play phone. Rogers Xperia Play is amongst the list of phones in the descriptions. So I'm guessing that it can be unlocked, unless cellunlocker.net is a scam {highly doubt it based on brief research}

Guys I have a question :
I won a free xperia play from sony ericsson canada and I can't connect it to fastboot. I tried holding search then plug in usb but no blue light. I tried back and i get green light but the drivers dont work. I just wanna see if I unlock the bootloader

What model number is your Xperia Play? R800a? I believe all Rogers models (R800a) are SIM/Network locked, which can't use the official bootloader according to Sony's docs.

People have explained a way to get root even with a locked bootloader in the forums though.
I too am looking for an outlet to buy a Canadian Play from. I assume at this point all 'official' distributors of the phone can't export it outside the country since it is SIM locked to Rogers.

WOW! Even tho I won it from sony ericsson it's still rogers branded! Good thing im with rogers

Just bought it from ebay, the white version as i wanted, and i save the trip (FL to Canada would take a bit longer than 6 hours lol)

Sure, i will do, but it will be after May 13th, because i'm out of town till that day

Planning on getting this phone.
A co-worker is in Canada this week and is flying back to the US in a few hours. I asked him to pick up an Xperia Play for me. He went to Best Buy, and they wouldn't sell him one without a contract. He is gonna go to a Rogers store on the way to the airport and try to get one.
The first thing I will need to do if/when I get it is to Sim Unlock it. I have been looking for a site to do it that is less shady and not that expensive.
I will probably go with the site mentioned above unless someone suggests something better in the next few hours.
Afterwards I will reply here with the results.
If any one else has any success or failure getting their Xperia Play Sim Unlocked let us know.

I used this site a few time: mobileincanada. Very fast (less than 1 hour normally). Got my Rogers Xperia play unlocked today and now I use it with Telus, so should work with any network (assuming it's the right frequency)

Been refreshing eBay all day but nothing coming up. Sad. I really want one. Judging by the number of hits this post is getting so does everyone else, lol.
That sucks reports are coming in that Best Buy won't sell without a contract. I called them just last week to confirm they could sell one contract free and they said they could. Must be totally hit and miss right now. No way in hell I'm driving 6 hours across the border just to get the run around...

Go to sony style canada, they will sell you one contract free but!!! still locked(shouldnt be a problem tho). Also heard that walmart is gonna sell them.

BestBuy.ca has the non-contract xperia play online. just do a buy online and pick-up in store, they cant make u sign up if u already have bought it at 550.
doesnt help me though i dont want to drive 11 hours to get the phone, im still trying to find it online non ebay.

the sonly style ca sight doesnt sell cell phones from what i can tell.

Lol, no way I'm paying close to a grand with shipping for that. Seller has lost his marbles. But hey someone is probably more desperate than I am.
I do have a lead I'm following... We'll see how it goes.
I'll have to also check and see if SonyStyle Canada will ship to the US. Betting probably not though.

as far as i know, sonystyle doesnt sell phone over their site, and they only ship to their respective region

Buying in UK on release, but using in Belgium, good or not?

I really want to buy the nexus 7 and actually don't want to wait until the release in belgium (october).
But I'm wondering if the play store will work properly etc...
Would it be a good idea to buy it already in the UK, or better to wait on release in belgium?
Plus can you use your bought apps (for phone) also on your tablet, while they are also installed on the phone.

Depends how badly you want it If you end up not liking it I'm sure finding a buyer in Belgium shouldn't be an issue with a release date of october :laugh:

As its WiFi only there should be no problem. You will easily be able to set the language as Belgian and if Belgian apps don't show up you can download something like market enabler and select Belgium.
Using phones apps will work fine with the tablet and you can use them on all your devices

I use my UK-bought Android phone and tablet in Belgium loads as I'm working here at the moment. No problems using either, though the option to buy books and films disappears from the Play Store and doesn't reappear until I'm back in the UK. Your apps are assigned to your Google account, so if you use the same account on both devices you can install all your apps to both at the same time.
Bear in mind that my Google account is UK-registered; no idea if that would make a difference.

I'm more worried about the warranty. I've never bought an electronic device online from another country.
What if there is something wrong with my Nexus, let's say the screen has enormous light bleed. Would I be able to send it back? And if so, where to? To the UK shop I bought it at? Or to Google? Or Asus?
Could anyone enlighten me here? If I'm sure there won't be a problem if I get a defunct device, I will certainly order one in the coming weeks.

Doesn't matter if you're from Belgium, you will be covered by standard UK warranty but would have to return the item at your own cost if it was faulty and you were located outside the UK. Many shops in the UK don't collect returns free anyway.
If you buy from a UK reseller, you would need to return to UK shop where you bought it based on their returns policy - they vary.
If you buy from Google Play store you'd need to use a UK-registered Google Account in which case device returns are handled through Google Wallet.

Too bad Google is becoming a corporate monster that believes it has the right to withhold your pro version from it's android users in Taiwan. Would buy it from playstore in a wink but can't.
They say it's not compatible with my nexus 7 which is a blatant lie ... they just don't want to sell it as a they don't agree with some consumer protection laws in Taiwan ... who needs protection from a corporate monster? I always believed Google had their costumer's best interest at heart ... obviously not!
It's a general thing for almost all apps ... really sad we can't use our nexus 7 to its full potential.

I think apps like market unlocker or VPN is always a good choice. There are plenty of free VPN out there. Just google it.
I used one of the free VPN to claimed my $25 without any problem, then used Market Unlocker to spent those $25 on paid applications in Google Play. So far so good.
By the way, I don't appreciate Google's attitude of thinking they should be above the local laws, either. It's their way or no way? Seriously?

I everybody I have a Sony Ericson Xperia X10 and I am tired of it because it is to laggy. So I was tinkig about buying a new phone, and when I saw the new Nexus 4 I new that it was the e best phone for me.
The problem is that I am Portuguese, so I live in Portugal xD, and I cant buy things from the Play Store. Do you guys know any other way to buy it for the same price as in the Play Store? Like eBay or Amazon. Some place thet ships things to Portugal.

prolly not gonna happen just yet. ebay is crazy, the phones are going for 500-1000 right now. if anyone buys them at that price, CRAZY! lol
just wait, maybe google will open support for your country. it takes time but if you can't wait, ebay for the crazy high prices.

Right now the only cheapsies way to get it is wait for the Play Store, ebay is ridiculous overpriced. Do you know anyone in a region that can buy it for you? Whenever they get them back in stock, rumors point to possibly as early as tomorrow, but Google claims in the next couple of weeks on their google plus page.
Ebay is out of the question, they're way higher than the Play Store.
My advice is ask someone you know to buy one for you in a region that sells them, and you would likely have to pay them a bit extra to ship it to you. :\ Sorry that's all I got.

This is your best bet. However, since the phone is sold out in the playstore everywhere, it will take a while for even this option to become viable.

Hi J. Diogo,
You could try contacting a company in your country which does this kind of stuff. They give you an address from United States or any country which they ship from, so you can buy without having to travel. After Google ships to the given address and the company has received it, they ship it to brazil, then you pick it up. You may pay for weight and combustible, i'm not sure, you'll need to find it out with this company.
You'll probably need:
- A payment method accepted by Google.
- A VPN to change your IP to the country of the given address. — You'll need to check if it is legal or illegal in your country.
- The shipping address given by this company.

Hey everyone I haven't really seen an answer for this, will carriers never sell the nexus 6p? I mean I remember other nexuss being sold online by carriers even if not in store.

Well. I believe I read somewhere that it will not be sold through carriers this time.
Just make sure to buy the N6P appropriate to your country of living. there are two models. The google store site will sell the North America model (A1). If you are looking to get the rest of the world model (A2), buy it somewhere else.

I am 95% sure I heard somewhere that AT&T will carry it but the others won't.
With it being unlocked it's a no brainer anyway, Google Play Store is the way to go.
