When I put the brightness slider in settings all the way down, it still seems pretty bright. That is still pretty bright especially in a dark room. Beautiful brightness widget reports that the current minimum is 11%. From doing a little reaserch, I know that the absolute lowest level that the backlight can run is at 3%, and that in some hero roms the lowest you can set it to is 6%. Does anyone know which files control brightness? I am sure that we can get the screen running at least 5% lower but I need some help figuring out what to change. BTW, I am running CM5T7. Long live XDA!

I did a comparison test between Auto brightness On and OFF. Both time have wiped battery state to just make sure it wasn't the wipe that improved battery life.
no widgets were placed, google services were up all time.
cellphone signal were pretty good. 3G all the time. -70dbm~-80dbm, sometimes was -65.
Under the same usage, I managed to get extra 20% of battery left for my phone with Auto brightness off.
Anyone wants to try this?
btw my screen brightness was set 50%, so i'm not cheating
Most people already knows about this. if you want to save the battery turn off the auto brightness

I usually run all my devices at 25% brightness. Then again, I only ever need a phone to last about 11 hours at a time.

maybe is a software issue so that the sensor is ON all the time and using the cpu to calculate the ambient light condition?

I think the main issue, is that auto brightness sets the brightness too high for most conditions (at least in terms of usability vs. battery life). I keep mine at 35% most the time.
And this has nothing to do with CM7 in particular, this is true on any ROM, including stock.
Hi there. After reading many threads on battery life and screen on time (which youre all probably sick of hearing about now), i have a question about peoples results. They always describe what they did with their phone, and what toggles were on etc, but they never mention the brightness.
I see people getting 6hrs+ of screen on time, is this with the brightness at 50%? 25%? 10%???
What is a normal SOT using FULL brightness. Thanks
I always have my phones on full brightness, There are always comments on here about turning stuff off like sync, google now etc and saying "whats the point of having a smartphone"
I put the screen in the same bracket.. I've seen people boasting about getting 6 hours screen on but when questioned they have their brightness on 10% or whatever. Whats the point?
The screen on both this and the gnex are lovely, and only can you appreciate it by getting out of that mard ar5e zone and cranking the brightness up.
3 hours screen on is enough for my use, i'm getting that now using franco's kernel (was only getting 2 when i bought it)
My screen is auto brightness and it's usually 50 percent brightness and hundred here and there and I get 5 + hours on the matrix kernel.
It's usually the stock kernel that has a low battery life

Underclocked and undervolted (no difference in performance) I can push 4 hours SOT 100% brightness, with heavy gaming, web browsing and calls.
Whoever gets 6+ is using auto brightness.

But it's not like the auto brightness is trying to intentionally save battery by lowering brightness to an uncomfortable level...

You don't want to give your significant other yet another reason to yell at you while you're reading XDA in bed. Rate this thread to express what you think of the Note5's display minimum dimness. A higher rating indicates that the display can get extremely dim, ideal for reading in very dark environments.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The screen can dim down to impressively low levels. You have to turn off auto brightness though and drop the slider all the way down.
It has great dim brightness. I usually leave it low, see screenshot, but for the past 2-3 days, I've left it on auto.

I use Lux still now for a few years and did notice with auto unchecked the Note 5 dims low. Lux just automate's it for me.
Chris
Much too bright for my liking. I could really go for it to be around half of what he minimum is (I know to turn auto brightness off and turn it all the way down)
I use Lux. Excellent.

Agreed. 2nits is none the less very dim. But the S5 and I believe the Note 4/S6....At least the S5 went as low as 1 nit. So half lol
Ok, just to be honest, the miniium brightness was bright on this phone when it was on jellybean 5.1.0. However, since the update to marshmallow 6.0.1, the new min brightness is WAY too low. Even when you adjust the autobrightness slider, the sensor still is picking up way too LOW. Too bad, one of the weakness of this phone
Rate this thread to express how well you can see the OnePlus 6's display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.

Does anyone else feel that after the pie update, the brightness slider has become biased towards keeping the screen darker?
I used to keep it at just below half, now for similar brightness I have to keep it at around 75 %

same here. confirmed.
Same as me. It's really annoying!
If rooted, you can use the "better adaptive brightness" module. I found it too bright for my liking, but a lot of people do like it.

Post updating my OP6 to Android Pie, I did find that the screen brightness was much darker than the previous one. I wasn't sure if there was a glitch during the update or the brightness slider is misbehaving. Earlier I used to keep the device at the static brightness level at 25% but post the update the slider shows minimum brightness at 60%. Hopefully the next update will resolve this issue.
Outdoor visibility? Isn't this the title of this thread?

The problem is this is new google adaptive brightness and once You update to pie the level of brightness has changed to lower as per their data collected in the past. So many people have been keeping their brightness level to low so the high brightness level has been reduced to get more lower levels. For now the only way is root.

That does make sense, but then the question is, does the battery drain at the same rate at the new 75% levels as it did for the older comparative brightness of say 30%. Technically it shouldn't right? Seeing as the brightness is the same. I haven't tested it, but it feels like it drains faster now. Anybody tested this?

Hello, I have recently bought the Motorola One Action at Amazon Spain and I really love the phone except that I find the screen brightness to be very low and dark. When comparing it to other phones it only becomes more obvious that the brightness is super-low. The phone only has an acceptable brightness at 100% and I don't think that's normal. I read on various websites that the brightness of the phone with full white screen and with Max brightness should be 459 cd/m² and while testing it with the light meter I'm getting 360 cd/m²; at maximum... Is it possible that I got a defective unit? Could it be a software issue?

Did u try to disable the adaptive brightness?
Yes, it is disabled.
In my opinion Minimal brightness is way too high. Cant complain about maximum brightness.
I also bought from Amazon Spain and the same problem. What was your solution if I may ask?
Perhaps everything could be solved with a custom rom
Running EvokutionX GSI and minimum brightness is perfect. Looks like Moto is restricting this on official firmware for reasons unknown...
guess we need a maximum brightness thread also. I live in the sunshine state, and find almost all phones aren't bright enough on a full sun day. This one included. But, as far as the minimum brightness is concerned, it is quite acceptable even in the darkest room. I do run the dark mode also.
