This is a very simple guide to install Android 2.2.
This will unroot your device, revert to stock, and update to FroYo.
Step 1. Download and unzip the original shipping Rom. (I unzipped it to the tools folder so I didn't have to type the full location in the cmd.exe)
http://rapidshare.com/files/3321487...ogle_WWE_1.01.1700.1_ERD79_release_signed.zip
Step 2. Plug in your Nexus One to your computer via USB.
Step 3. Open a Command Prompt on your computer
Step 4. Type adb reboot bootloader. This will boot into the bootloader.
Step 5. Confirm fastboot connection by typing fastboot devices.
Step 6. Erase your Userdata by typing fastboot erase userdata.
Step 7. Erase your Cache by typing fastboot erase cache.
(If step 6 and 7 do not work you can alternately do a factory data wipe within Android. Settings/Privacy/Factory Data Reset)
Step 8. Go to the directory where you stored your unzipped image file.
Step 9. Type fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
Step 10. Type fastboot flash boot boot.img
Step 11. Type fastboot flash system system.img
Step 12. Type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Step 14. Fastboot reboot
Step 15. Boot into Android > Settings > About > Update > Download and Install (This should be update-1)
Step 16. Download and copy the following zip to your SD card, and rename it update.zip
http://coblitz.codeen.org/www.romraid.com/paul/nexusone/signed-passion-ERE27-from-ERD79.a487b405.zip
Step 17. Reboot in to the recovery. Power+Trackball > Bootloader > Recovery
Step 18. Press Vol Up+Power
Step 19. Apply update.zip
Step 20. Finish and reboot.
Step 21. Copy the following to your SD card and name it update.zip
http://bit.ly/beSwQm
Step 22. Reboot in to the recovery. Power+Trackball > Bootloader > Recovery
Step 23. Press Vol Up+Power
Step 24. Apply update.zip
Step 25. Enjoy

Can anyone confirm that this works for getting to FroYo from CM 5.0.6-N1?
Thanks. Can't get any simpler than this

Hi,
First off, thanks for the guide. Big help for us noobs around.
I'm stuck at step 4, though. When I try to ./adb reboot bootloader in Ubuntu 10.04, I get the following error:

I'm currently investigating the possible cause and solution, but any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: found the solution, I'll post it here in case it happens to anyone else:
./adb kill-server
sudo ./adb start-server
sudo ./adb reboot bootloader
Seems you have to kill the server and then restart it again with sudo.

So while reading the instructions and trying to install the MeDroid ICS 6.1 build... I think I might have bricked my N1. I successfully installed Blackrose. Then watched the video, and repartitioned the system. I then realized that I didn't have the ROM on my microSD card, so I clicked reboot to try to reboot into my CM7 system so I can connect it to my PC and copy over the ZIP of the flash. That's when it all went downhill.
I'm not stuck with the colorful X on my screen. The system doesn't respond to the volume down while I press the power button. If I rerun Blackrose, it crashes, badly. I can't turn off the phone by holding down the power button. I have to pull the battery.
So what do I do now? Need help...
This is by far the worst thing I've done to the phone so far. Everything else has been pretty easy.
Ok, it isn't *completely* dead. I still need some help trying to finish the ICS installation. At this point, I can get back into Blackrose. I guess I wasn't holding down the volume down button properly when I turned it on. So now I can get into Blackrose - Latest version by the way. Now what?

Try to download a system.img and boot.img for the ROM you want and flash those from the fastboot mode.

I had the same problem and I figured out that it was happening because of the resized cache partition. If you are using clockwork recovery, that might be your problem. What I did was I flashed Amon's RA recovery by using fastboot. Then I was finally able to boot into recovery. With clockwork, it kept on freezing on the x every time I tried to go into it. After I booted into RA recovery, I wiped cache, data and dalvik cache and then installed ICS from SD. Hope this helps.
I had the same problem too

Download the RA recovery image onto your computer (should be a .img file). Make sure you have adb and fastboot drivers installed. Turn on your phone while holding volume down and select fastboot from the menu. Connect your phone to your computer via USB. It should say fastboot USB on the screen at this point. Now open command prompt on your computer and navigate to the folder where you have the RA recovery img file. Now type the following into command prompt: fastboot flash recovery filename.img. Replace filename.img with the name of the recovery file. Recovery should now be flashed. Now shut off your phone and restart again while holding volume down. At this point select recovery from the menu and hope that it loads. Worked for me. Make sure you wipe cache, data, and dalvik cache before flashing ICS. Hope this helps.

I've following your instructions above, can get to the black/green recovery, and have wiped cache, data, and dalvik cache, but still cant flash any roms.
Flashing CM7.1 gives a E:Can't open /sdcard/rom name.... (bad) error
Flashing MeDroid6.1 will begin installation and go for a few minutes but then shows a 'Random offset: 0x28e' message before the installation finishes. At the end I get a 'Install from sdcard complete' message, but reboot and get stuck at the recovery image.
Flashing MIUI.us_passion_4.0.3-2.2.10_0xD34D gives a E:Can't open /sdcard/rom name.... (bad) error

You should have the stock hboot in your Blackrose folder. You could try to flash it through fastboot by navigating to that folder and using the following commands:
fastboot flash hboot hboot_stock.nb0
fastboot reboot-bootloader
It might not work but it's worth giving it a shot. When I try it on mine it fails but it could be because I have a locked bootloader.
still no luck. i get the following message...
.......directory\Blackrose\hboot>fastboot flash hboot hboot_stock.nb0

Dear developers and other users!
I have been looking for same issues but I was unable to find answer for my problem.
About a year ago I unlocked and rooted my nexus 7 tablet to use special apps on it.
Today I tried to unroot and lock my device. On my laptop the program(Nexus Root Toolkit) said it was successful so I just needed to reboot the tablet.
After rebooting it stopped on the Google screen with a "Booting failed" text on the top left corner like that:

I think I have uninstalled android from the device but I can't Intsall a new one because recovery mode doesn't work and Android is not going to boot.
I can only use Bootloader. Bootloader looks like that:
Once I started my tablet it started in bootloader mode but every other startup fails on Google screen.
Please help me to use my tablet as before without root.
What should I do and how should I do that to get it work again?

Its much easier on a Linux machine. All you need to do is open terminal and type "sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot" and hit enter. Then extract the .tar file and double click "flash-all.sh" and choose run in terminal. Absolutely no driver headaches.
If you have access to a Linux machine (mint/ubuntu) or if you can dualboot Linux, this will really help

I too have this same issue...
Exception is my Nexus is locked... everytime I try to unlock it, it tries to reboot and never comes back on...
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for everyone I successfully made my tablet work by flashing a stock android 4.4.2
The solution:
1. I connected to my father's laptop (with Win7 on it and mine had Win8.1 so you MUSN'T try fixing on Win8.1 because of the drivers) because my laptop detected the device as undefined USB component and my father's laptop showed the tablet as Nexus 7.
2. I found a working adb&fastboot here
3. After the download is done unip the file and run RUN ME.bat and type fastboot for help
*If needed after running the RUN ME.bat file type
fastboot oem unlock
Click to collapse
(this will unlock your bootloader which is necessarry
for the following steps)
4. After reconnecting my device and booting to bootloader mode and downloaded the new firmware (unzipped into the fastboot folder) type fastboot
fastboot update image-nakasi-kot49h (this was the firmware that I needed to "update")
Click to collapse
5. After the fastboot started working and flashing the new OS (it takes about 5 or 10 minuntes) the tablet will restart and starts optimizing all te apps that you had before (that happened in my case).
6. If you want you can lock your bootloader by giving the fastboot this command:
fastboot oem lock
Click to collapse

Not sure what happened here with this freaking thing. I followed the instructions located here. I grabbed both the 4.4.2 and the 4.4.4 located here.
I applied 4.4.2 to go back to stock and the tablet didn't make it past the Nexus boot logo. So, I rebooted into the bootloader and then flashed 4.4.4 thinking there was an issue.
Same result. Still no boot.
Any ideas? Of course I didn't back squat up because I did this same exact thing on my Nexus5 and it worked flawlessly. So, I figured, why back up anything because it will work the same on this tablet.
No clue what the %&@(&% happened.
I also can't get into Recovery mode either.

Yup. Copied all the files in the factory images to "platform-tools". Opened a CMD prompt window and then typed "Flash-all"

If using windows is the file called flash-all.bat ?
make sure if you are using windows that your CMD window is opened as Admin....
Can you do this again and post the input and output of the process here ?
Thx Josh
Yes Sir, I am.
I've done this:
Proceed with this step if you want to keep your data intact. If you skip this step, your data will be wiped. With your favorite text editor, edit (be careful not to run it by accident instead of editing) flash-all.bat (if you're on Windows) or flash-all.sh (Mac, Linux) and remove "-w" from the fastboot update command. For example, if the line reads fastboot -w update image-razor-jss15j.zip, it should now read fastboot update image-razor-jss15j.zip. The -w option instructs fastboot to wipe data.Which worked flawlessly on my N5 "upgrade".
I am an Admin user on this machine so the CMD prompt is Admin.
There are no errors either in the CMD prompt window or, the Tablet. Everything appears to transfer over without any issues / errors.

Yes, I have never had good luck with removing
Code:
fastboot -w
at this point with no recovery and not booting your data is lost...
So I would not modify it and see if you can get it to boot...
Thx Josh

You may be have got attracted to those new roms out there on the internet and would have probably bricked your device.Or maybe did some modding and in worst case somehow your phone bootlooped.
so please follow the guide for unbricking or solving bootloop issues:
CAUTION:
[1] FIRST OF ALL, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE.
[2] NEVER UNPLUG THE USB CABLE WHILE FLASHING IS IN PROGRESS.IT MIGHT PERMANENTLY BRICK UR DEVICE..
ONLY FOR ZENFONE 5,A501CG/00CG
download the required files:
[1] kitkat firmware: for zenfone5(a501cg/00cg only other zf5 users download appropriate firmware from asus support page): http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/ZenFone/A500CG/UL-ASUS_T00F-WW-2.21.40.44-user.zip
[2] adb/fastboot files: from here
[3] device drivers:if you do not have device drivers download and install pc link on pc from asus website,it will automatically install device drivers on your pc.(download from: http://liveupdate01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/LiveUpdate/Release/ZenFone/APP/LinkRim/PCLinkSetup.exe)
IF U R BRICKED PROCEED FROM STEP 2 ELSE FOR BOOTLOOP START FROM STEP 1:
step 1] try booting into recovery and perform a factory rest and wipe cache if this solves the bootloop(in most cases it should).if it still bootloops then follow the following tutorial
step 2]extract the fastboot files on the desktop and paste the firmware(it will be in .zip)in the fastboot folder
step 3]after copying the firmware also extract and copy the recovery.img and fastboot.img file from the firmware into the fastboot folder. (don't remove original firmware zip)
now your fastbootfolder should contain fastboot files+recovery.img+fastboot.img+firmware you dowloaded(compressed in .zip)
step4]boot into the fastboot by switching off the phone and powering it on by power+vol up key until asus logo comes up
if u r returning from some other rom u need to relock the bootloader so scroll some below to see how to relockbootloader.
step5]once you booted to fastboot ,open command promt in fastboot folder (downloaded earlier) by pressing right click+shift in any blank space on folder screen and selecting open command promt here.
in cmd write:
step6]
Code:
fastboot flash fastboot fastboot.img
step7] fastboot reboot-bootloader
wait until reboot is complete then write
step8]
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
step9] now we will be erasing data and cache for a clean flashing
Code:
fastboot clear data
fastboot clear cache
both of them take time and screen may turn off to save power so don't panic
next use volume keys to navigate to recovery and select it using power key .once your phone boots up showing android with belly open symbol press and hold volume up+volume down until recovery menu appears.if that does not open recovery try this:
hold volume down button, click and release vol up button,,,then finally release vol down button.
i admit it brothers,,it is sometimes really difficult to boot into recovery...but keep trying,,it is a bit difficult but is fruitful
if it doesnt appears it may be due to unssucceful flashing, unplug usb cable, force switch off phone by holding power button for few seconds.now again boot in bootloader by power button and vol up key and repeat from :step[8]
once in recovery select apply update from adb
step10] write on cmd
Code:
adb sideload <downloaded firmware name>.zip
for convenience you can rename firmware to kk.zip or any thing you like so command will be adb sideload kk.zip(it may take 15 to 20 mins)
step 11]once thats done select wipe data and cache in recovery and at last select reboot from recovery menu(dont skip this else you may face freezing on welcome screen itself)
hopefully you will boot into homescreen and be patient first bootup may take upto 20 mins.
[UPDATE] HOW TO RELOCK BOOTLOADER{only for zenfone 5 other device users pls google the procedure}
(USE THIS ONLY IF U R RETURNING FROM ANY CUSTOM ROM ITS NOT NEEDED FOR BOOTLOOPING PROBLEM)
hi guys i know u will be needing to relock the bootloader while returning to stock rom..
so what u have do is use the following steps before flashing fastboot.img that is before STEP [5] mentioned above
[1] download this file (its a zip file extract it using password zenfone-five.blogspot.com)...(link=https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0o7qWuG7vvVRE9CV0hJWGRJS2c/view?usp=sharing)
[2]follow the on screen instructions
after the bootloader is locked carry on the steps from step[5]
PLEASE NOTE---THE UNLOCKING/LOCKING TOOL PROVIDED ABOVE IS NIETHER WRITTEN NOR OWNED BY ME...ALL CREDIT GOES TO ITS RESPECTIVE DEVELOPERS
this method can be used for:
1]unbricking
2]returning to stock rom
3]bootloop issues
IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO BOOT INTO FASTBOOT(maybe stuck on usb logo)--see this: http://www.asus.com/zentalk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=33800 it is written by asus guys and will help you
thanks
if you face any issue please ask in comments...........
