There is a thin strip of rubber all the way around the HTC hero screen (GSM)...
On mine at the top left corner the rubber has come up a bit and looks ugly...
Anyone else had this problem?
Yep, mines come out a bit on the right and flaked off.

There's no paint on the X10 outside of the chrome ridges.
But yes, I noticed some chipping where I dropped the phone once. Other than that, nope.
my black x10 is loosing some paint around the notch to remove the battery :-(

Oh! Maybe you got a fake one! Ho! Ho! I've seen some fake ones while I was traveling in the East. Does your unit say's Made in China?
I got directly from a Rogers store... anyways it happens near the 2 top corners on the x10 for me. That part is now grey instead of white...

You mean the top front two corners? On my case, they are worn out, but on the phone itself, nothing. The chrome seems like it's cheap and is gone completely where I dropped the phone on the bottom, but other than that, no changes at all.
I can't think of anything except if you wear incredibly tight jeans and you're constantly inserting and removing it from your pockets. That seems to be how my case is getting worn out, heh.
Get a gel silicone case. Flexible and good to grip and hold like a soft gel case, with the protection and durability of a hard case. only 10$
also i heard that the chrome is actually plastic, can anyone confirm this. I remember reading it somewhere in one of those x10 disassemble threads.
I've had the x10 since release in the UK. It's my main phone, I don't use a case and am not that careful (although haven't dropped it on anything hard yet). I wear jeans all the time and there is no wear on the corners at all.
Looking closely at the phone, I think it's moulded black plastic and so I doubt it can get discoloured. The chrome I know can get chipped (someone on ebay sold me an x10 they had dropped, labelled as new, had to return for refund), so be careful with that. However, it hasn't worn down or anything on my phone.
It's not the Chrome part, its the corners on the front and it is turning grey

Anyone else having creaking coming from the bottom of the phone? The plastic "back chin" on the phone? When I use the hardware keyboard, I'm getting some mad creaking when typing. Anyone else?
(Tried to embed the YouTube video and it's not working.. here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4G_EN4pprQ)
Very little.
Nothing major here either.

Best Buy will think I'm crazy and nitpicking.. which I guess I am nitpicking a little bit but it's seriously annoying me. I had this same issue on my Palm Pre for a while - and they never wanted to take it back. Or even swap me the battery cover. Right now, I've put double sided tape on the area above the speaker to try and use it as a workaround. I'm going to go to Best Buy tomorrow to see what they say. Hmmm..
Or maybe I should just go to Sprint to see if they have an extra battery cover.
Seriously... if you exchange a whole phone for this... don't be a jerk.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Mine does that too on the lower right area.
The cover creaks because of the way it attaches to the phone. (Set of small clips that you have to pry open to remove the cover).
Wish they made the back a sliding lock cover instead of the pry to remove cover....
I've noticed 4 distinct 'scuffs' or 'stains' that appear to be under my glass. I don't know how else to describe them. I didn't notice them when I first got the phone, but you can only see them at a good angle where there's no glare, so the may have always been there. Now I can't *not* notice them. I'll try to post a picture tonight, it's a bit hard to photograph. I think if someone has it they would know what I'm talking about...
Does it kind of look like a gel substance underneath the glass?

Hmmm maybe.. if I took a micro-drop of gel or glue and pressed it.... i'll try to post a pic later tonight.
its the oleophobic coating peeling off i think
Okay here are two pics of two of these things. I have four of them. I scratch and rub them and nothing, as if they are just beneath the surface...
From what I'm seeing it just looks like a scuff or scratch. I had a palm pixie before and it had the same markings on it.. Idk what it is.

I had something similar on my previous Nexus S. I think it's made from steam settling under glass.
I am on my second handset (Sprint) San Antonio, TX and both have had screen issues... I did notice something quite similar to your issue on my current handset but mine resides closer to the ear piece and camera... besides that I'm also experiencing the keyboard ghosting issue very visible when I open my notification menu.... I'm kinda hesitant to get a replacement since thus far my screens issues have only doubled ...

He is correct, mine is doing the same thing. Look at it this way, at least the top of your screen isn't separating, mine flexes'and'goes up and down under minimal pressure and makes all kinds of noise, its weird.

I think this seems to be the most likely scenario from my google research and comparison of other pics. Ugh. Hopefully it won't get worse. What's the replacement/repair policy? Call Samsung or take it to Best Buy ? It's been over 30 days.
Definitely not scuff marks, I keep the thing in a sock and treat it like gold.
I am currently on hold waiting for a rep at Samsung.....it has been 1 hour and 45 minutes and I have not talked to anyone... so if calling Samsung is what you opt to do ... get yourself a samwich and a six pack before hand!!
So I finally got through to a rep.... and they said...
JK... I gave up after 5 hour hold.(seriously) ...and decided the issue was minimal at this point

I have similar problems, except it'll only show if I breath moist air on to it. If you cover it up with a decent screen protector, it should go away unless the mark is really deep.
I've got dust under my screen, you can see it in light a little, but in direct sunlight you can see a ton of really small specs all underneath the screen. This has always bugged the hell out of me with phones..is it really that hard to make the screen sealed off good? Anyways, just wandering if anyone else had dust and how much dust they had. I'm about to rip the thing open and wipe it off myself...
I also have dust under my screen mostly because i work with my phone in my pocket all day. Unfortunately the only way to get the dust out of there is to take the dang thing apart. I don't think that blowing computer air in it will help as it doesn't have anywhere to go.

Yep, I said in my post that that might be what I'll have to do...but maybe it's good for warranty? And I have the phone in my pocket all day too, it still shouldn't get dust under the screen.
I keep my phone in my pocket all day at work, some of the time when at home, and all the time when I go out somewhere. No screen protector or case. I have no dust under the screen. I do remove the rear cover periodically and clean any dust out from the battery compartment and surrounding areas, so maybe this helps.

Just noticed top of the silver rim has chipped exposing a black underneath.
Anyone else? Reason to return?

Live with it and take better care of it along with investing in a case, sleeve, etc.
On my first N7 (that had to be RMAd anyway because of the light bleeding issue), I somehow managed to scratch the glass.
Nothing on the silver rim for either though
Just got one yesterday by the camera, I babied the hell outta this thing. Oh well if it really bothers me I will just put a case on it or attempt to repaint it.
