HTC EVO 4G Shipping ROM leaked into the wild - EVO 4G General

What can we do with this leaked HTC EVO 4G ROM -
http://www.machackpc.com/featured/htc-evo-4g-shipping-rom-leaked-into-the-wild/

Here's hoping for some good cooked ROMs at release that have tethering enabled regardless of the carrier option! (I know others are hoping to get the EVO versions of Qik and YouTube ported to other Android devices, though...)

Seriously, an exe?

That is unfortunate. I hate EXE as you probably understand. I don't fully understand what ruu is, but I recall firmware files for my blu-ray player being .RUU

ruu is the same type of program used to flash the 2.1 onto the hero

us firmware on Rogers Dream

im wondering if i could get the non "raped" version of the 1.5 firmware for my dream and actually have a google phone... and not some half assed rogers mess.
right now i have a brand new HTC dream with 1.5 rogers, build 1.85
easiest way to unbrand it?
I wouldn't exactly call it a mess...Rogers hasn't done a lot to "brand it". 3 icons and a splash screen? I have seen way worse.
But to answer your question, check the developer forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=448
You'd need to root it, then you can flah any Google source based build you want.
You'll want to start here
Don't be doing what is in that link, it involves writing a phone-killer spl to it.
You don't need to change the SPL or radio.
Root it, write on a boot.img with a kernel built from HTC's kernel source, and install your most preferred system.img.

Do you know where we could find this file? Also, if we already installed the danger spl and updated radio how can we go back? My radio locks up sometimes so maybe the new radio for the rogers dream will fix this issue.

Look in the various community builds to see if they mention having an HTC sourced kernel.... if you can't find one, download the source from developer.htc.com and compile it yourself.
As for going back from deathspl, I think I saw an official rogers nbh floating around somewhere... installing that should put the thing right back to stock and shouldn't be much risk of bricking.
I know you might not like Rogers rom,but I'd highly recommend the Rogers rom you can see in my signature,it's really nice, you can remove the Rogers apps, while you have apps2sd and all the goodies. That's the version I have been using for a couple of weeks and is really nice, plus the Hero theme is very nice.

This requires that you use SPL 1.33.2005. (this is safe on all rogers dream devices.)

i wonder what that means.

maybe: don't flash hard-spl on the rogers dream, only 2005

Need info regarding 2.1 Official

has anyone done a ROM based on the RELEASED 2.1 yet? I know that the MD5 is the same, but files sizes are different and the "Leaked" one we got has BT and Audio issues. Just wondering if anyone has compared the two yet?
None of the leak based 2.1 ROMS will let my phone sleep unless I go into running services and Kill OBEX.

Not yet.
Go make one.
Im a bit confused here. The sprint release is the same as the leak you guys had a week ago correct? So why is the leak rooted but the new release is not as of yet? Whats the difference between the two roms?
Damage pulled the bits out of the RUU and made them into an Update Zip. I was asking if anyone had done that with the Official yet.

The leak that was signed with release keys did not have root...period.
A dev patched it with root. 2 different roms there. K?

Big things are cooking...Can't you smell it.
On the MD5:
How the hell are file sizes different but the return the same check sum? WTF?
I wasn't aware they were different sizes. Maybe I don't understand how MD5 works as well as I should.
Download the new RUU, do NOT run it as an RUU, but instead, extract the rom.zip and flash it. You'll keep root that way.

Doesn't he still have to patch SU in? and SH?

2.1 RUU via mac?

The ruu is an exe file, so how does a mac user do this? I'm tired of changing roms, and I just want to use the sprint 2.1
use a Virtual machine like Virtual Box or Vmware Fusion and install Windows that way, or use Boot Camp.
you will be stuck with the crappy sprint rom if you use that 2.1... Just a warning. It's buggy and you WON'T be happy.

He's using a mac, do you think he car......... er.... He will be just fine with The RUU of 2.1
Once you do run the offical 2.1 RUU there is no going back. You cannot go back to 1.5 and you cannot root(therefor no more ROMs)
I think there is a ROM that is the 2.1 but is flash-able and keeps your root. There is also a Test 2.1 RUU which still has root. People have said they changed nothing from the Test to the Official other then removing root.
Other then that, if you want the official then I am sure you can go into a Sprint store and they will upgrade it for you... if you do that please don't come back here and *****.

Eh, kinda funny, but at least apple never claims that their OS is bug free like Windows does. Remember Windows ME? The supposed fix of all operating systems?

I'm not going to *****. If you read my post, I'm tired of flashing roms all the time. None are perfect. All have some sort of lag, even the overclocked ones. I RUUd back to 1.56 and have absolutely no lag.
From what I understand, this rom is the same as the official release, it just maintains root. It may be easier for you to just download that and flash it, and then never flash another rom again if you don't want to. But I'm willing to bet you'll be back to flashing soon.
If you look through this thread in the dev section, I think regaw_leinad captured the adb commands that are actually sent. You will need to get the zip files that are extracted by the exe though.
Thanks everyone, I think I'm just going to take my phone to sprint and have them do it. Can't wait for the EVO!!

[Q] Thinking of Rooting

Well i've been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting.... for telus to release the official 2.1 but it seems that that's never going to happen so now I want to root my hero. Since i'm new to rooting my question is which ROM would you guys recommend, I want the one that's the same as the Sense UI 2.1 that would be on the hero if telus wasn't retarded. There are so many ROMs I can't figure out which one is which so if you guys could help it would be appreciated
You can upgrade the Telus Hero to 2.1 without rooting. I did mine the other day.
It will be the unbranded WWE 2.1 ROM

I have not seen this anywhere, do you have a link and just to clarify I have the TELUS hero does it work on this phone.
Once you've installed a recovery rom you can try all the rom's you want. You can switch between then in about 5 minutes or so, so its really easy to try out lots. My guide will allow you to gain root access and install a custom recovery. See my sig for a link.
Kk, Ive been looking more and I think that VillainRom 12 is the best for me anyway

i have a buddy with mac and android 1.5 on his hero. Is there a signed udpate.zip somewhere that can be used from the stock recovery?

im actaully talking about a signed zip file you can use the stock recovery for. Just the stock 2.1 update that will work with the stock recovery. Not any rooted stuff or anything

Sprint? If so, then you should get in touch with them. There is an official update, but it's not a zip, if I remember right it was an exe, I think I found it on htc.com, a LONG time ago. Also, you can't flash zips to an unrooted phone. Good luck.
Go to a sprint service center and they should do the update for u that's what I did when I got my hero from radio shack with 1.5 still on it
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

thats what he is trying to avoid. Dont worry about it then. Some phones you can actually get a signed update.zip that will update you flash from the stock recovery. Maybe only samsung.
Well, I already told you how to do it without GOING to sprint, but here's the link to the download page for the update to 2.1.
http://www.htc.com/us/support/hero-sprint/downloads/
You have to choose how to DL the file, otherwise I would've linked the file, that support section also has instructions on how to. After you get 2.1 there's an update, also listed on the page. This is how I upgraded to 2.1, no sprint store required. Happy trails.
