I dont know if anyone else is having email problems, but twice I had a problem with my yahoo email account, so basically I had the account set up and emails would download fine. but since I rarely read all the emails on the actual account I have like 6000+ unread emails. this is where the problem would arise with hd2, it would actually try to download all 6000+ emails, which would greatly cause the phone to lag even freeze. I decided to delete account rather than continue getting the same problem.
I attempted to change settings for email so it would not download all the emails, but could not find such a setting, for example only allowing hd 2 to download X amount of emails, instead of all....any help or suggestions?
tmoUS. by the way.

Is there anyone who doesnot have ...ir pop3 accounts)? And which ROM do you have?
I use POP3 but I never have more than 15 emails at any time as I clear them out. I use an Exec with the latest O2 ROM. There are two possibilities I think for this problem. I noticed that if I reset after a freeze when downloading emails over GPRS/UMTS (problem with previous ROM) and I had to reset I would lose the emails I downloaded. This is because they were not written back from the cache. Now I am wondering if email account information is also in the cache, which means you could lose emails and account information. Also if there is a problem with the cache and emails, large email accounts in situations where you have low RAM may cause a memory problem - just a thought.
I have lots of messaging accounts (SMS, MMS, Activesync, POP3, Gmail, Hotmail), all of which are triggered and used daily. But I am ruthless with email, read, respond, delete. Or I forward them to my home email account to be kept on the laptop. I also only retrieve 5kb of all messages, and choose which ones I need more of.
Never had a problem, never lost (except mms and used patch to fix). Occassionally hotmail drops off, but sign in to messenger and it comes back.

lost email accounts and "No GSM"? Then get a repla
I think I find out why my email accounts disappear: see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35196
I have the same things ("No GSM" after soft reset and then no IMEI, email accounts lost, etc). So its is a hardware problem. I will get a replacement for my Universal (MDA Pro).
Hey all,
I've been having some problems with POP3 and gmail on my TyTN/8525. That problem being: it doesn't work anymore. It worked great for about a week, then just stopped working for no apparent reason. I didn't change any of my gmail settings during this time.
After it stopped working, I randomly got 5 of the 100+ e-mails that I was suppsoed to get. Gmail is receiving them fine and I can see them when I login to gmail, they just don't get downloaded when my phone pops it. I can send e-mail through gmail's pop fine.
Anyone have a clue what my problem might be?
Thanks,
Todd

Which wireless provider?
Have you tried deleting the Gmail account on the TyTn and then re-adding it?
Can you POP3 access it from you'r home computer etc (to make sure it is not a Gmail issue)?
If these do not help post you're setup so we can take a look
I think the problem seems to stem from the fact that Gmail breaks down your messages in groups, like around 300 or so messages at a time. On top of that, Pocket IE doesn't download the full messages by default and, as such, leaves a copy of the messages on the server. I think when this happens, Gmail doesn't prepare the next "group" of messages to send to you. Also, Pocket IE, by default, is set to show only messages from the last 3 days, so even though it may have downloaded a bunch of messages, you'll only see the ones that are 3 days old or less. You'll want to uncheck that option.
Try setting up your account as you normally would in the desktop mail app of your choice, Outlook Express for example. Make sure it isn't set to leave a copy of the messages on the server. If Outlook Express didn't download the first group of messages, make sure to do a manual send and receive. That will hopefully tell Gmail to prepare your next group of messages. Alternate Send/Receives with your phone and Gmail until you get to your most recent messages. Also, try putting recent in front of your user name, IE, "recent:[email protected]" instead of just your user name/e-mail address.
i find with gmail that it stops working every few weeks and i have to go into gmail on my pc and re-check the Get all pop email from now, ( it seems there are too many emails to be sent down )
using the "recent:" prefix before your login in your outlook username should fix this.

I use Google Mail for Domains (basically, email hosting for your own domain name). The URL is mail.google.com/a/domain.com
I, of course, use the web browse on the G1 to access it. When I hit "reply" to reply to an email, 3 out of 4 times the reply will actually pull up ANOTHER email, usually to a different person. I've now replied to the wrong person THREE TIMES in the past 2 days.
Anyone else see this problem? It's driving me crazy.
Just bumping this because it is a serious issue, and I'd love for someone to confirm.
I tried it with gmail.com (from the web browser) and I am experiencing the SAME problem. Can someone here log into their google mail for domain names account or their gmail account from their web browser, open any email, and hit reply and see if it goes to the proper person?
The bug also occurs sometimes when I hit "Compose." Instead of giving me a blank email, it gives me a reply to some random recent person who wrote to me.
Very, very frustrating.
You can try adding the account to your phone via the email client....you may lose some functionality, but it should pretty much solve the problems...
(see https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=114408 )
If you need to carry contacts over, just export from one google account and import into the gmail one.
I have to use [email protected], this is the best method that I've figured out...Maybe you could try adding the Gmail account at initial config...? Didnt try that...
I've used the email app via IMAP for 3 accounts at [email protected], but I've had a few problems this weekend where all my email accounts disappear. Annoying.
The big problem is that I access about 15 different email accounts hosted through [email protected], so it's easier to just bang into them through the web interface.
But thanks for the idea
I use the Gmail for domains and have that account syncing directly to my G1, but I've never had a problem with it replying to the wrong person. Mine works just as well as using the Gmail client through a browser.
I tested it on 6 different G1's (all RC30, unfortunately), and they all had the same bug. I figured out why my IMAP email accounts got wiped: low disk space for some reason. Freed up some space, and they work fine now.
Anyone having send/recieve issues with the gmail app?
I just tried sending a bunch of photos to a seperate account and recieved the message twice, but sending through the android email app over IMAP seems to send normally.
Can't for the life of me see what the problem is.
Hi, I just got my Magic a couple of days ago and I have noticed issues with google mail.
A couple of times now I have checked the mail through the google mail icon on my phone and it has shown Inbox (1) but just doesn't download the message to my phone.
I have tried sync'ing it but it just takes forever to come down. No issues with signal at the time so not really sure what is wrong. One time the email did turn up after I manually sync'ed about 5 times and the other time I logged onto my google mail via the browser rather then the app and read the email, (that email never did arrive on my phone!?)
Hopefully some kind email genius will come along and help us both ;0)
Well I've noticed after setting the email account up through the android app that gmail seems to sync properly now and notify about new mails, though I haven't gotten around to testing if the send is working properly or not on the gmail app.
Incidentally I also switched down to 2G to save battery, but I don't think that'd have an impact...
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this fricken phone to play nice with other email accounts than gmail???!!
I mainly use my yahoo account and it sometimes like to sync, sometimes like to notify the same email over and over again as new, sometimes like to undelete emails again...
Is it just trying to make me use gmail...*ugh*...
It's a problem. I just forward all my other e-mails to my gmail account and have a filter that every e-mail coming from my other account is denoted by a different folder. I've also set up Gmail to let me send e-mails out via my other accounts. All e-mails still get pushed really fast. It works really nicely and all my e-mail is in one place and with folders they can be in separate places if I need it to be. And nothing beats Gmail's search function so that's a bonus.
Thanks!
I'll give it a try. So I'm using gmail afterall. LOL
Anything is better than what it is. Its driving me nuts!
