i only use two music apps, one is the standard htc one because of the lock screen widget, and the other is 3 (cubed) for the home widget and the beautifulness of the app.
but the both seem to suffer the same problem when playing songs in random mode..
its rubbish. some songs get repeated over and over again, the standard htc app is worse i think. it has even played the same track right after! its a nightmare skipping through tracks to find the tune you want on random, you can be skipping for ages, the song you want wont come up, but it will repeat other songs over and over again! i only have about 20 songs in the playlist!
i dont want to fiddle around with it too much while im driving its dangerous..
htc music app is poor they need to fix it.
cubed is still beta and i already like it better than the htc one.
but they need to fix this..
has anybody found this on other music apps too?
anyone?????
Hey
I might had a similar problem with my Desire. When I plugged in the earphones, the music would start to randomly start playing, skipping songs and just act totally random. You dont specify if this happens only when you plugged them into your phone or not, but I will just think it is.
If you have the same problem as me, the little headphone icon in the top screen, will show that you also have a mic connected. It might not show immediately when you plug it into your phone, but when it starts skipping songs etc check if that icon is there with the mic. So it would look like the sensors sensoring if it has a mic etc is a bit "sketchy".
I found this thread on this other forum with people getting the same problems, and this one guy came with several possible solutions.
SOLUTIONS
1. Break in the 3.5mm jack in the Desire. I found that after I'd plugged and unplugged various 3.5mm cables from the Desire about 100 times, the problem mostly went away. I now only have 1 PC connector cable that will regularly show the headset – all of my other 3.5mm headphones and cables now work every time.
2. Get a different cable. If your goal is to hook up to a car stereo or dock via line in, just try some different 3.5mm male-male cables. I had 4. Two worked from the get-go and two failed (thanks auMouth for the idea to try different ones), but now (after break-in) a third one works consistently and the fourth is about 50/50 (so obviously I just won't use that one). The first 2 cables worked 100% of the time so obviously I can just use those for my desire and save the others for PCs.
3. If you LOVE your headphones and they still fail: theoretically you could solve this with an extension cable or a male/female adapter or Y splitter which the phone likes. The issue is the 3.5mm connector itself making the Desire unhappy – so if you can find an extension cable or adapter that shows as headphones when stuck in your Desire, you could hook your headphones to that and they will work. You don't even need the headphones to test whether the cable or adapter is good before you buy, just plug the cable or adapter in a few times and if you get headphones icon every time with no headsets you should be golden.

His first solution worked for me, after I had plugged and unplugged the cable like 20-30 times (guess it depends on how many times you've plugged it in before) it worked. I've not had a problem with it skipping since and it has never shown the icon with a mic again. Hope this helps.

I TOTALLY agree! I am dead tired of listening to the same tracks again and again and again! I use 3 cubed player, but the only reason I use it is that it has the lockscreen widget. Haven't found a solution to it yet. I need the lockscreen widget, so I can't even use any other player. It is quite frustrating to say the least.
Weird.
Two things:
1. My Desire stock player has controls on the lock screen.
2. Its a strange criticism to say that it doesn't play the specific song you want, when chosen the play mode as random - maybe don't use random if you want a particular track??? The randomisation is pretty poor though, I'll grant you that.

The two things you have mentioned are fine. The Desire stock player does have controls on the screen, and nobody's looking for the player to play a specific song when in the shuffle mode. It is just that the shuffle of the player is really pathetic. It keeps playing the same sets of songs over and over again. And that is the cause of irritation.
same here with my legend.in shuffle playing same songs.
Do all players have the same poor shuffle problem or is it just 3 and htc stock?

I think basically we're discussing here two problems:
1) The problem with non-htc earphones and "random" skipping of tracks. Some people even thought they have "shake to shuffle" (from iphone) on their desire.
2) The "random" Algorithm of Android is very very bad implemented. Or the Algorithm wich gives random numbers is very very bad.
This problem is seen in nearly every htc phone (never had another android phone in hands, so i don't know), i had it with hero and desire.
The problem is, that if you skip often in random tracks your tracks don't feel as been played random because some tracks are just repeated after 5 songs again and again.
For example:
-track you listen to- -> -rt1- -> -rt2- -> -rt3- -> -rt1- -> -rt4- -> -rt5- -> -rt1- -> -rt7- -> -rt8- -> -rt1- -> -rt2- -> and so on.
-> means a "skip"-operation
-rt1- means random track 1 (see it as a variable for ex.)
That happens when you skip very often in random mode.
And i think that this one was ment by the autor of the first post.
I had this problem with hero and desire and every firmware and i hate it.
I really want a solution for this.
Could someone test if the nexus does also show this behaviour?
For example i have about 300-400 mp3s. This behaviour is not "random". You shouldn't see a song repeated after 5 tracks again. And this happens often!
Sry for my english, i am not a native speaker.
Best Regards
U explained in perfectly in number 2.. it is really bad.. cnt remember it happening on my touch hd though.

Going a little bit OT here, but how do you guys get a random mode in cubed, do you just put all the artists in the plaing queue or is there a 'play all' button, because i've been looking for cubed's play all button for a long time.
Just press play on a song it will play all. Random is between play and skip track on the top of the app.

Hello,
I have read some posts about that, but I cannot find them right now...
I have problems sometime when playing music (with headset). As long as the screen is on, no problem. When the phone is in sleep mode (screen off), I have some short break... Or the player just stop. It seems the issues is just like if I remove the headset cable.
I have tried Soft and Hard Reset, I have tried two different Headset, I have tried with TouchFlo player Tab, Windows Media Player and Core Player... Some time it works for one hour with no problem, sometime it just play ugly one song and just stop.
Did any one has the same issue? Find a way to suppress this? Maybe just a registry tweak to disable the "Pause on cable off" ?
I have same issue and make ticket to HTC - but they answer is to perform Soft Reset. They can't reproduce this problem.
I'm having the same problem; short random breaks in the music. Did eith er of you install SRSwow by any chance? I may try uninstalling that and see if the issue continues.
Having exactly the same problem, short breaks in the music, and if i lock the screen, the music stops at the end of the song and doesnt go onto the next track

I don't installed SRSwow. My last try was a Hard-Reset, and just after first start, I played music... And get the problem. My next try will be to use the #### headset I got with my Leo. But I have to go back home for this.
I had the problem using the Leo headset
All of you have a lock screen with "password"? (I have one due to my exchange policies). I tested a trick yesterday: I manually lock the phone before putting it into sleepmode... and no problem (two times).
My problem hasn't re-occurred since i did a soft reset
Maybe the short breaks have something to do with the update function of the music player? Once in a while, don't know when, but definitely when you use the music player the first couple of times, the player does some heavy working in the background. (indicated by the little merry-go-round in the left upper corner).
Anyway the player isn't any good when you have 100+ albums. Browsing through that many albums is a disaster (no scroll bar, no search function). Also the artist are grouped by "performing artist" and not by "album artist", a tear-breaker when you have many compilation albums. Also, and every player for the WM platform (in contrast to the ipod players) have this weird functionality, albums are sorted by album tiltle and not by artist. Who in heavens name knows all his/her album titles by heart? When a album pops in mind you want to play, you think in terms of .... (that wonderfull) album by Fleetwood Mac for example and /not/ in terms of that album, called "Rumours", by ...... (that crazy rockgroup... what's its name).
But that's "appelflap" talking.
I believe this is a very old problem witch occurs on allot of HTC phones.
I've had this problem on one of my 3 previous HTC phones, cant remember witch one, because I bought a decent mp3 player a long time ago
It's a damn shame really that HTC can't fix this thing.
I have this problem too, but also with the audio cable running to my car stereo. As long as the screen is on, there is no problem. If I turn it off, the music starts breaking up once in a while.
use Nitrogen people! been using that on my HD2 and have had zero music playing pauses / breaks / etc, even with screen off, regardless of whether headset is on or not.
Have a similar problem with another winmo phone. The problem was with listening music on microsdhc (i.e. larger than 2gb microsd card) card.
It seems the device just shut down card reader on standby (Screen Off), so when your buffer is empty (end of the song, as a rule) there is no music to play and it just stops.
And no, I dunno the reason for such behavior. And there was no problem with 2gb or less microsd cards.
P.S. I'll test my leo with 16gb card tonight (just bout it), to see, if there a similar problem.
I have the problem problem with my 8Gb card. I could try with the 2Gb too. This should be the reason for the "stop playing at the end of the track".
But for the playing "short break", I have another thinking: Nitrogen don't have the problem. The most important differences between Nitrogen and WMP/TF3D player is the rule that make the music to pause when removing the headset. And this really "sounds" like a problem of headset, as if the phone "loose" the headset connection. Try to remove and quickly re-plug your phone; you'll se the same issue.
Back to my first question: is there a way to disable the pause on unplug head-set? Maybe in the registry?
I still don't have HD2, but I have these problems on X1.
Nitrogen did not help, in fact it can't play some MP3 at all. It either skips it or crashes completely. But otherwise it is the best player I know.
What does work however, is to use Core player and set 'higher priority during music playback'. Also I tried to change priority to higher using task manager for Nitrogen and it seemed to help, but I did not test it that much to be sure.
I sent this to nitrogen bug tracker (suggestion that it should allow higher priority) but after month there is no reaction.
I fixed my issues by just cleaning up my music and making sure I didn't have more than 30 songs per folder(had ~1000 in one and it made the music player lag like crazy).
i've the problem, but only when receiving or doing a call. after that the lags start ... this is annoying -.-
Having issues as well with HTC music player, it stutters, there are sound artifacts where the song skips, and sometimes a song will stop playing after 2 seconds.
This is so annoying im prepared to send it back. I reformated my 8gb class 6 card, but it´s still the same.
Using another player is fine, no issues. This is classical HTC issues, they need to get the crap together and fix issues like this before the release. Had the same issues with my diamond until they fixed it.
hi everybody! I had the same problem but not in the sleep mode. My htc music will have little break when my Opera loading something.
It is had any way to fix it? thank you
In the settings for the display light there is also an option for "turn off my device if inactive in:" - I disabled that option and my music player (Pocket Player) is now running without problems.
Hey guys, first off I will say I am very impressed with wp7 so far. I have one complaint/issue with my Focus and was wondering if anyone else has run into it. Now, I could just be an idiot, but I have no sound when playing music through the zune interface on my phone. I used the 14 day free trial to download some music from zune to test it out on my phone, would that make a difference? It shows that all the music is on my device, and when I hit play the song progress bar is moving as if it's playing, there's just no sound. Am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks in advance for the help.
I don’t mean to be mean but did you turn the volume up from the left side vol button?
Tried It!
Haha yes, I tried the volume. Both through the headphones when plugged in as well as through the device itself with no headphones plugged in. No Sound!
You may want to try using it on a different set of headphones or other line-in. It could be faulty headphones, but if it's not, you at least ruled that out and can start looking towards software settings or possibly faulty hardware.
That said, has anyone had any luck using their zune pass on their phone? I'm not sure if there's a certain place to use the streaming feature, but every song I've searched for and tried to stream is only a 30 second preview.
Earphones
The earphones are definitely good. Used them on other devices ok and they work with everything else on the phone (slacker, web, fm radio, sounds, etc.). The phone audio works for everything else as well, it's just in the Zune hub itself that no sound plays. Like I said, it gives me the track time, title, and other info, every indication it's playing, but it just doesnt make a noise haha. Zune works on my computer fine with all the downloaded audio as well. does everyone else's device have loudspeaker sound if they just hit play on a song in the zune hub?
Does the phone work for taking / making voice calls or in apps that can produce sound?
Yeah, the sound works perfect everywhere else. In call, in call with headphones, games/apps from marketplace, etc. It's literally just the zune hub. That's why I'm wondering if it's something stupid like a setting im missing, or a could it have anything to do with the fact that I have a trial zune membership?
Frustrating to say the least.
You could try factory resetting your phone. Settings -> About -> Reset. It will wipe you phone clean though.

You have to hold down on the song to get the download option. Had to look that one up too.

Or hit the 'play symbol' (circle with sideways triangle) next to an album or playlist or song and it will stream with out downloading to phone.
I'm having sounds problems too, but I can hear the music. I have to turn the volume up to at least 14 to barely hear it. I've tried multiple headsets, same problem. My normal listening level is 20-23, and I can still hear people talking around me, so I know it's not that I'm trying to blast it...I stopped blasting my music 20 years ago - trying have some hearing left for the future ;-)
Stuttering!
Somtimes I hear stuttering at the end of songs, especially Zune pass songs. Does this happen anybody else?
I get this audio problem too intermittently. A reboot of the phone fixes it. Do a long hold of the power button, and then another long hold when its powered down. So I assume its a software issue. Anyone figure out whats causing it?

Yes, I've had it too.
Try this to test your audio:
Dial ##634# and press Call
Dial *#0289#
You should now be able to run through a few audio tests that will at least let you figure out if the hardware is functioning properly.
same problem here. happen to me alot, today it did it at least 2 times, i have to turn off the phone to make it work again...
I've checked high and low on the forums for something similar or a solution to my problem, but alas I can't find anything so I'm starting a thread.
As the title state's my phone rings people whenever an AUX jack is in, listening to music, or hooked up to a stereo. I've tried restoring to factory setting's also I've tried different headphones and stereo's but still no joy.
T-Mobile
HTC HD Desire HD.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hmm, maybe I've got a similar probelm, I use normal 3.5mm in-ear headphones with my Desire HD and they are able to make strange things, if I gently move the jack, sometimes my phones starts a call to the latest called person, sometimes it skips to the next song, sometimes the music is paused.
I think that has something to to with the default headset funcionality, but it would be great if there was a way to lock any function other than playing music if no multi-functional headset is plugged in.
You're going to think I'm nuts but I've tried everything.
It seems to go berserk when you do a screwing motion with the 3.5mm jack. It doesn't make any difference what headphones I use whether they've got any calling buttons on them or not they just go absolutely mental.
I will admit to doing the calling bug that increases the music volume when you hang up straight after making the call.
But I still can't get around it and it's VERY frustrating, especially in the car.
The same problem
Hey, i have the same problem. This morning i was listening to music on my way to school. And all of the sudden it went berserk, started calling, skipping. What to do?
That happens if the AUX wire passes a current (many times stray) back to the phone. The phone just reacts in the way it would if a button was pressed on one of those headphones having an in-line mic/button.
A lot of times this stray current comes because of static build-up. I'm sure you guys know how to get rid of that. If it's not because of static, it might be because of faulty wiring on the audio enhancement (not usually the case), or if the audio enhancement and the phone function at hugely different potential differences (also, usually not the case).
As far as mine is concerned, freeing it of static usually helps.
One way to quickly judge if it's static that's the problem is if the call/skip/whatever usually takes place the minute you plug it in.

Search for an app on the market called "headset blocker"
NO luck
The above post helps,
However im testing the new ICS rom by Lord Clockan and twistedumbrella and there is no compatability for ICS. Wondering is anyone knows what part of the phone controls headset controls so i can mak an app to block it on 4.0?
Its a real pain as i cant play music at all,
random apps start playing music over other apps and music stops in others, skips tracks etc. SO frustrating.
Take out headphones
Blow into the jack hole
Plug back in headphones
Sorted till the next time crap builds up in there.

I have that problem for a while now. The blwoing inside technik did work for a while, but doesent anymore.
That headset blocker would be amazing if it would be working on ICS. Im on the LordMod Beta to.
@geinome would be amazing if you could make an app to fix that. But honestly i have no idea were in the sistem that headset control is located. Hope you can find it.
Found a Fix. Hope it helps you guys to.
I found an other App, that did solfe the problem for me eaven on ICS. The App Headset Interceptor is meant to let you choos, which Music App should receve the signal coming from the remote on the headset. But if you dont choose any from the Apps to get the signal, none dose and so none is cousing problems
Would love to post you guys the link to the market, but cant couse i dont have anouth post yet. But im sure i can sind it yourself
I hope this is solving the problem with the unwanted calls to. Couse i never had that problem, i cant test that.
you dont need any apps
you just need a needle to clean up the pocket lint inside the 3.55 jack.
for me it's usually enough to unplug the jack and plug it in again and all works well for the next month or so.
When I'm playing music, other music will suddenly cut in. I thought the problem was WinAmp, so I uninstalled / changed players, but the problem persists (now using UberMusic) .... any ideas???
I've checked currently running tasks and couldn't spot any suspects....
Vibrant KA6
thanks in advance.
Its probably your headphones. If there is a short in the wire your phone thinks you hit play/pause, and your samsung music player starts up. That's my guess.

thanks, but no; happens regardless of cord. I regularly use three seperate ones (connecting car, stereo and headphones). Just to be clear - one song is playing, then half way through another song cuts in and plays over the top - no pause at all.
I had a similar issue, but my music would just start randomly playing at any time. Sometimes just randomly, while locked and in my pocket, and it happened a few times for some reason when I opened up facebook. It's always one of the mp3's I have saved on my phone, and always the first in the playlist, like it was actually selected. I also couldnt get it to stop. It would either randomly stop on it's own or I'd have to turn the phone off. Opening up the media player didnt do anything at all. Hasn't happened in a couple months and I didn't do anything to fix it. Hope someone has an answer.
I get the same issue with mine. For me it happens most of the time with Google Music. If I press the play button from the lock screen, sometimes just clicking next on the music controls in the notification tray, and sometimes just randomly.
When I pull up Google Music, it will usually have whatever song is playing, but it will be shown as not playing. Sometimes pressing play, then pause will stop it. Other times, the only way to stop it is to let it play the song through or reboot my phone. Even ending the Google Music app from the Task Manager doesn't stop it.
Hopefully someone knows some more information on a fix for this.
P.S. This happens despite what headphones/cord I plug into the phone.
Try Headset Blocker in the app market...it's free and solved the problem for me...there are a few others but I don't remember the names

Now that I think about it, you're absolutely correct - this only happens with mp3's that I've downloaded and are stored on the phone mem ... perhaps it's one of the download programs. I often use GTunes, which has an inbuilt player ... I reckon it's possible that it's stuffing me around.
@chronos7 nothing to do with headset controls... as mentioned, happens even with a cord going straight into an amplifier.
just updated to the new version of gtunes, called gpod. Will report back after some listening
I had that problem with either WinAmp or DoubleTwist. Both are uninstalled now and I haven't seen the problem in a while.
It was quite annoying.. whenever I would disconnect the car bluetooth it would start playing.

didn't help ... sigh.
Extra info: it switches back to the original song sometimes. So, playing song a, song b cuts in for about 20 seconds, then switches back to song a. No pauses.
Try the headset blocker and see if that fixes the problem...I had the exact same issues and this solved the problem about 6 months ago and I haven't had the problem since...just try it and if it doesn't work then it's was free anyway but trust me it will work...
thanks Chronos, tried it, but no, didn't help.
Here's the fu**ing weird thing: i just copied all my music from my sd card to my pc. I then played some music with windows media player......... THE SAME THING HAPPENED! In the middle of a song another song jumped in for 15 seconds and then buggered off. Note that WMP never acknowledged any change, i.e. kept showing song a even when song b had cut in.
WTF? Corrupted files??
If it does the same thing on your PC it's not the phone, it's the MP3 file. Download from a different source. Some people still have trouble ripping/converting music so you get garbage/incomplete MP3 files sometimes.

I agree after some experimentation, but the problem originated on the phone itself. I can see this is the case because song a is polluted with song b and c, where both b and c are present on my phone and are completely unrelated to song a. I just encountered a Joy Division song with chunks of Prince and something else completely alien, but still all are my songs, not just ones that would have been inserted during the encoding process .... I wonder what program did this. I still think gtunes is a candidate, but have no evidence at all, except that in the aforementioned case all three songs were downloaded via gtunes.
During this week that I've been using the Q at my home I've found that it sometimes does not hold a consistent volume when it's being used, mostly when using youtube and playing music
At first it would be playing alright, but then it would suddenly lower the volume gradually until its muted (while the song/video is still playing), and changing the volume a bit would cause it to go all the way back or even higher than what it was..
Anyone else that already has a Q with the same problem?
sound is a huge part of any cell phone!!!
I've been using mine quite a bit since getting the application working last week and haven't noticed any of these problems. I do have a problem with the Google Play Music application not properly playing the tracks I want though. For instance I chose Artists - The Beatles - All Songs, chose a song to play and put it on shuffle but it's shuffling all tracks, not just The Beatles as I selected. This may be because I'm using two different devices (Xoom and Bionic) to control it at times but I'm not sure about that. I will have to reboot it and only use one device and see if I get the same results.
