Hi everyone!
When I used old models of HTC they had the possibility for LED indicator to blink green due to GSM signal.
Is it possible to make the LED blinking for the same purpose on HD2 ?
Thank you.
same question...
Nice thought, but the idea of it blinking is not that efficient. As far as I know, there's only two-color LED in the HD2 (orange/green)...if it's constantly flashing orange due to low signal, it'll drain the battery every time your phone is in the pocket or in a predominantly low-signal area (bags, classroom, subway, etc etc). If it's flashing green and whatnot, then it'll might interfere with the call/SMS/email notification. I mean, if you live and work around the same area, you kinda know which area presented a low signal for your phone and which area is not...and putting the HD2 in a tight spot as to block the antenna will always yield poor signal.
I wouldn't need an LED to tell me that.

The point is that I travel quite a lot. So many times I could not receive a call cause I didn`t know that I do not have GSM signal. To have the device on the table and just to see that the signal is there easier than to switch it on and realize that it can be out of range.
P.S. Missed calls/SMS/mails I can arrange by app which makes the buttons blink.

Try phone alarm. It has the option to play a sound when the signal is low.

I think in the case of the OP, it's for people who are too lazy to spend a second to push a button and see what's in front of them...and would rather stare at the phone for some amount of time to see if LED blink or not.
Anywho, I'm not a traveler like the OP so maybe my assessment is wayyy off.
I been looking for some time on this...blinking light on blackberrys and such r great...i really hope they have a cab for this soon lol
It's also really useful to know if your battery has run out! Many times I've been walking around with a dead phone without realising it.. lol

If it happened many times, don't you think you'd learn to charge the phone before you're out and about? Be that as it may, if you tend to walk around with a phone on low-battery, wouldn't the blinking LED be almost useless as it drains the battery even more and thus, giving you a dead phone? Plus the phone does alert you (vibrate/sound) when your battery drops below 10%, which, ironically, is a better indicator then a blinking LED in your pocket...
Nah - I use it as my main internet connection, so the WiFi router is on a lot of the time, really kills the battery.
I don't see how an LED should be such a drain - they don't use much power la. I remember my old Ericsson used to have that feature, really handy
yesterday, for some unknown reason, LED indicator start blinkig with GREEN light!!!
like in any other phone for GSM signal.
today - not present
so, is there any way to make it green-blinking always for GSM signal?

Wow...the 8125 really drives me nuts alot of the time...
I work in a hospital where there are alot of places where you lose signal quickly, which can be expected. However what is not expected is when I come back after being in a no signal area to an area where I would normally have full signal strength...and all I get is that damned antenae symbol with "..." after it like it's searching for a bloody signal.
This just makes me irate as I can stand outside for SEVERAL minutes (often having to restart the phone before it will understand that there's now a signal) before it will just randomly pop up saying that I not have full reception.
I'm using the latest official 2.25 rom and I don't really feel like changing again (this is about the 6th rom in 4 weeks and it has been a problem with EVERY rom I've used). Is there a program out there that will tell my moronic 8125, "Hey there dip$hit! There actualy IS a signal here so look for the damn thing RIGHT NOW!" It would be nice to have a button I could stick on SPB Today Screen and just hit whenever it was "searching" to make it ACTUALLY SEARCH...b/c the signal is there.
Any help here?
I have a T-Mo MDA and the solution I've read here is to change to manual network selection and choose Cingular. That should speed up re-acquiring the signal.
Thanks for the advice...but...ermm...I can't find that setting...
I thought it was in Settings->Phone->Network. But in the official 2.25 rom, all I see there is "Current Network: Cingular" and a "Find Networks" button underneath it that just reconnects to Cingular whenever tapped.
Any direction?
Thanks.

I have the same problem with the length of time it takes to get a sign back. I actually posted a few days ago and have not gotten a response. I will keep an eye on this thread but if you get a PM with a solution or figure something out can you please drop me a line.

Can anyone teach me how to enable the blinking of notification led in green colour in usual status?

Do you mean have it flash all the time to show the phone is on and connected to the network?
If yes I don't think you can.

Maybe you allready gave the answer: It might be in the WM6.5 rom.
As far as i know it's not possible with WM6.1, there is allready a thread about this is this forum, just use search.
Generaly, most people have the blinking green LED to indikate missed calls, new SMS or new E-mail. I use it for those things, so having it do showing network availability aswell is just pointless.

In older HTC phones, (pre Diamond1), the LED flashed green to indicate GSM connectivity (signal) and would flash orange in case of notifications. Also the same LED would flash red in case of low battery.
I also would have liked it to be flashing green for connectivity & orange for notifications/low battery. As it would be easier to know weather you are connected or not, since the sreen is mostly off.
Or perhapps i can suggest, if some developer would like to to do it, to make the phone flash orange (same as low battery) in case there is no signal.

Pointless to you but not to others.
I'd find it very useful to know if the phone's actually "on-line" without firing it up. The radio sometimes goes AWOL even in a good signal area, it would be nice to know when this happens. In a weak signal area it helps you put the phone down in a location where it actually works.
It's been on every phone I've owned and suddenly it's no longer fashionable with HTC...
I'm surprised I haven't seen a thread on here about reception issues. My 3G goes in and out , from 4 bars to 1 and even zero bars at times while the phone is staying in the exact spot. does anyone thing this is a hardware or software issue?
The lock screen totally lags. it's almost ridiculous I have about 4 frames for the entire animation of it sliding left to right
I can't figure out a way to make the SMS limit per conversation over 1000. The phone keeps deleting my texts =( Is there a way around this I'm missing ...?
Love the phone it just seems like there's a few REALLY silly stupid problems with it .
Edit:
My voice search just will not search my contacts... I noticed it will only find contacts which are synced with Google, however even though i have my options to sync my contacts. i still only have 5/173 of my contacts synced.
For some silly reason there is ONE person ( that i know of) who's facebook profile was not downloaded into my phonebook . I only care for the picture ID .. but it's odd every one else (whom i know of) was downloaded other than him, spoke to him there's nothing special about his profile.
Edit 2:
Has anyone noticed a clicking sound which sometimes happens whenever the camera is opened? It sounds as if something near the camera is physically clicking
any other droid 2 owners have these problems?
You're totally right about the 3G going in and out. I'm in my basement and when I'm on a call, it actually drops. Last night I called my g/f back from my house phone, and the bars jumped from 1 back to 4. Sometimes I get that 1X instead of 3G.
The phone totally has potential, I just hope a root comes out soon and we have a lot of room to play with. I came off the Motorola Cliq to the Droid 2 and honestly, even with my Cliq rooted, it seems way superior to the quality I'm getting on the Droid 2.
Let alone that the service provider is Verizon, the service should be the best... The only good thing I can say about the phone is that I'm able to watch flash videos off the web, and the new games coming out are actually playable without lag. Other than that, Tethering without root is like having PDAnet on my phone. I use EasyTether right now and it's not much faster that PDAnet. I also hope when root drops, j_r0dd from modmymobile gets his hands on it, I missed my white on black theme and I prefer the Droid X bootanimation on my start up.
have you tried the manual update to 2.2.20? I experienced the signal bug having my reception drop to 1x while it was 3g a minute before and the phone wasn't moved, but after i did the manual update to 2.2.20 by going to system -> software update i haven't seen it since.
With the unlock screen, I at first noticed lag but after reading motorolas recommendations on how a smartphone is like a computer and it should be shut off / rebooted occasionally, i did shut down a couple times and the phone is very smooth now and the unlock animation is perfect.
try shutting down the phone and unplugging the battery for a little and then put the battery back in and let it boot up. I believe the phone uses some kind of cache system that loads up frequently used items on startup, maybe that is why its smooth now.

The update did nothing for me =/... I've rebooted countless times, still nothing , the next thing that really aggravates is the text message limit... smart phones are supposed to have practically unlimited sms/phone book storage. I still can't find a way around it .
Biggest problems are the reception issues, considering it's most probably a hardware issue and no update will fix it=(

I don't know what to say, it was laggy when i first got the phone and after a few shutdowns and restarts over a couple days and a shutdown battery pull for 10 minutes and a reboot and its been perfect ever since. seems like you don't know what your doing.
Bull****. The slider to answer calls is smooth. The lockscreen is not and rebooting it does not fix it. Post a video so I can believe you. I even reset the phone and it didn't help.

I've had my Droid 2 since the release day, my first Verizon phone. I have to agree with the lock screen lag, but I have noticed something interesting with the reception issues. I'm new to verizon so I don't know if this happens with other verizon android phones but when I first wake the phone up from sleep I have one to no bars then 5-10 seconds later I usually have 4-5 bars. It seems as if the cdma radio/software goes into a type of power save mode durring sleep to save on battery power. If this is the case I can imagine the issue could be something to do the the power save mode hanging when the system wakes up, also power save mode could be a little too sensitive.
Now my inferences are completely unfounded in any knowledge other than my observations, and some basic knowledge of porting android to my old Att Tilt. If there is someone out there who knows more please correct me as I would love to stand corrected.

Yup same here, the slider to answer calls is fine. I've come to a conclusion its just a buggy OS moto prepared quickly. Let's hope for a real update soon.

yes there is a little clicking sound when you go to the camera. If you look into the camera lends as you open the camera app you can see it sorta move a tiny bit so there might be some protectivething over the camera lens somewhere inside there but that is just a guess.

your asking for a lot right now. I'm not 100% sure what yours looks like but my animation at first was choppy. I noticed it the first couple times I used my phone. However after a few shutdowns and battery pulls the lock screen seems to be pretty smooth and it follows my finger with no lag.
I have also removed all the Motorola widgets from my home screens, not sure if that had something to do with it.
The 2.2.0 update did nothing whatsoever to fix my signal issues. Still getting wide variations in coverage and signal (1bar 1x RTT to 1 bar 3g to 3-4 bars 3g all from the same spot in multiple areas)
Have you tried using another launcher like launcher pro, it fixed the lag with my unlock screen, I think the blur uses up too much memory.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
The update did nothing to fix my signal issues. I don't have a problem with lag except in the gallery.
I called customer server to complain about the reception problems. The rep I talked to said Verizon is aware of the reception problems, but they aren't sure if it's the phone or the network.
He said there are other people in my area complaining of reception problems that don't have the Droid 2. He also mentioned something about areas that were mostly Alltel that are having problems. He did something on his end that is suppose to block some kind of signal having to do with Alltel and had me run the PRL update again, he said it could take up to 2 days for me to notice a difference if that was the problem.
I was also told to log each dropped call by dialing ### send.
I noticed something odd, yesterday I did a factory reset, after rooting. When I started to set everthing up I turned off the battery manager in settings, and since then it appears if all my reception issues have disappeared.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Is that something you can configure after a factory reset without root?
Yeah, if you go to settings, battery manager, battery mode, and set it to performance. Let me know if you notice anything different.

3G only shows and lights up if data transfer is occurring or if you have no 1X signal. The signal bars jump because the radio is not always transferring data (over 3G) and therefore you see it grab the signal (0-1 bars) then get full signal (3-4 bars depending on coverage of course) and once finished, bye bye.
This saves you battery. It is truly a SMARTphone. It also keeps bandwidth available to those also using a Motorola D2 and wondering the same thing.

Has it always been like this? Flashed a few roms and radios. But I think I never really thought about it or noticed it until now and it's really bugging me. I've read a few topics about 3g and 4g being "parallel" to our voice calls so we can't have both? I don't quite understand any of it.

ALL GSM phones that are connected to HSPA or greater should be able to talk and surf at the same time. I do it frequently personally. Do you know if you drop to EDGE/GRPS when you get on a phone call?
I am also having this issue but its strange that the guy posting above me does not face this issue - may be it is a hardware issue like screen and emmc since I already tried different roms and radios?. As soon as I am in a call I am disconnected from network data. I noticed only recently when I was in a hotel room working on my laptop (tethered phone to provide internet) and just when I joined a conference call, I lost internet. It was so embarrassing I couldnt curse tmobile and htc enough. The iphone ad about talking and surfing at the same time never made sense to me before this incidence.
my phone does this too, but its on and off. Sometimes it does, others it doesnt. I really have no idea what could cause it.
Let me shed some light on this....if you are on H will less then 2 bars and theres an E with 3 bars or more and u get a call the phone will switch to E but once you hang up then its back on H. But if H has 3 bars or more when a call is received then I will stay on the H network and allow talk and data at the same time. Theres no hard ware issues trust me. Hspa is preferred but if there is a stronger signal then the phone switches. I hope that makes sense. You can not do data and talk together on E but you can on H.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Or, to put it in other words: when the phone is in a call, it'll hop to the "best sounding" base station, and if it would happen to be the old GSM/GPRS/EDGE base station - the data will drop. The missing bit is: once it drops - it isn't re-negotiated during the call, only after it. Thus, if the phone hops to EDGE base station even for a second during the call - you won't have data from this point and till the end of the call.
Perfectly normal behavior.

This is definitely not the case. I have tried multiple times with different signal strengths but it drops completely every time. I just did another test, I was on H at 3.47mbps with all full bars and as soon as i placed a call to my friend, the data dropped completely.

It's not about the bars you see, but the signal strength (and not only) your phone sees - which is way more complicated than just bars. Read my post above.
And it's not an opinion either, it's a fact. This is how cellular handoff/handover works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_handover
Thanks for the replies and insight everyone. Now I know a little bit more about how that handover works heh.
In my case, most calls were made from my office building. Yesterday, when I posted, I had the newest radio and data would drop immediately as soon as the person answers my call (not a steady drop from 4g-3g-Edge, icon just disappears completely). At best, I was able to download a few apps during a call (which was downloading before the call was made) but as soon my screen locked and turned off - the data was gone on wake and wouldn't turn back on until after the call was finished.
Went through 4 different ROMS yesterday with about the same results but I have recently reflashed RoyalGinger again along with the stock radio thereafter and it seems to be holding during calls, even on my ride to work this morning. I know this is against what most people have said in this thread but maybe I just messed something up on my phone with the new radio? Guess I'll stick to this radio for now. Thanks again everybody.
Radio is the one responsible for determining the best possible connection, and flashing new radio might change things.
I'm in a good 3G/H coverage zone, with new radio, and just tested - the data remained on during the call in any conditions, screen off, screen on, wifi toggling - still worked.

When I'm on 4g and turn the screen off the data turns off, normally after an extended period, which its good for battery.

This has happened to me since I had my blackberry 9700. My experience has been that it loses all data (H/3G/E), even in good H/3G signal area and won't reconnect until I end the call. However the data loss only occurs while on a call. While not on a call, just surfing the net or using data any other way does not cause lost data connection nor a drop from H/3G to Edge. I saw somewhere on these forums that switching to H/3G only will prevent this from happening. I've tried this and it seemed to help, but I haven't been checking on every call.

I have discovered that if I'm in a location with mediocre signal (but WITH reception), that if I hold the phone, the signal (bars) will often drop to 0, and carrying out a phone conversation is near impossible. But if I put the phone down (put it on speaker), the bars/reception come back and I can carry out the conversation.
The effect is pretty bad, sometimes going from 3 bars to 0.
I'm on Verizon.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm on Verizon.

I notice this from time to time as well. I dont know if its more sensitive to certain bands or what but I dont see it all the time but I have seen it more than I would like. Thought it was just me and my service.
Yeah i noticed that as well. I leave !my phone alone overnight, I get "green" reception. Once I start using it, the reception gets temperamental and it drops to yellow, sometimes red

I have the same issue. It seems more prominent when I grip the top edges of the phone. Lose significant signal on both WiFi and cellular. Reminds me of antenna gate of the iPhone.
Apple -> "Grip Gate"
Ive noticed that the bars go to nothing when im on WIFI with WIFI calling enabled. No matter how good or bad the signal is where i am. Once i kill WIFI, the bars jump right back up. Im assuming this is a power saver feature. I dont remember my V20 doing this, but I do recall my 6P dropping the bars by half
