Opera INI location? - HD2 General

Ok i've spent 2 hours on this and i'm now going to ask. Where is the opera 9.7 ini file located (if there is one)?
I have a little problem where i changed the cache folder location but (like a fool) put speechmarks in the path so now webpages don't load properly and i can't use opera:config to change it.
I will proceed with banging my head on my desk untill i get an answer, if i get an answer.
Thanks guys
Your grateful moron,
M3PH
**UPDATE**
Kept working on this and finally found the answer somewhere else in the forum. All you have to do is edit the registry. The path to the value is \HKLM\Software\Opera\Prefs\User Prefs and then you change Cache Directory4 to what ever it is you want. Thanks goes out to bshakil for that one.

Application Black Lists again

Hi All,
Wouldn't it be great to be able to control which applications ran on your PDA...Ensuring that your users could not run certain apps would be a real bonus.
So I came across a URL that explained just how to do this...
http://www.satter.org/2007/03/lets_shell_some.html#comment-74156022
Sadly, for me I am on WM6 but only have access to the WM5 SDK and when I tried to carry out the suggestions I failed with the SMS text error:
Change of Device Settings Unsuccessful
Your device settings cannot be changed by Test.cpf
So I am at a dead end. Can anyone else who has interest step in and assist this beginner to get this function working?
I ran the SDKCerts.Cab on my device and the SecurityOff.CPF file. They were successful and I got the SMS message telling me that the changes in SecurityOff.cpf were successful.
I am probably close to a solution but don't have the background to make the last few steps. Can anyone else assist me please?
Have I just a typo in my test.cpf file (on the URL there is a message about the script containing a typo error - I couldn't spot it though...was it fixed?)
All help is greatly appreciated and would deserve a beer or a cyber equivalent.
Many thanks,
PianoSam.
Could you post the wap-provisioning source you used? So I could check for a typo or sumthin.. I've done the same thing as the blogg describes, and it works fine with me..
I on the other hand, wanted to restrict wceload being loaded via Activesync->Add/Remove programs.. but it seems like RAPI doesn't use the same disallowrun settings etc..
But post you cpf file or you code.. and i'll take a look at it.
Hi,
Thanks for the assistance. I have attached a small zip with the various bits and pieces that I have.
My file is the test.cpf file. What I actually wish to do is to prevent Pocket IE from loading...although my test tried to control the clock.exe file.
all assistance is greatly appreciated and you have already renewed my hope that I might be able to do what is needed...
Thanks,
PianoSam
I'll have a look at it.. but it seems that the Test.cpf is just a doc or a rtf file you've renamed? You know this isn't a "cpf" file that wceload.exe can recognize?
I'll have a look at the registry settings within the file and build a cab/cpf file .. so i can test it... i'll let you know how this goes.. unfortunately, i can't reply before tomorrow.
I didn't realise...
Thanks for your help. I just created my test.cpf in word by cutting and pasting the xml script from the url.
I saved as utf-8 and thought job done. Sadly not.
So what should I do instead? forgive me but I don't know the steps to make a suitable cpf/cab file.
Once again THANK YOU for your kindness,
Sam.

There is a workaround for this.
After the download is finished, and you see all this strange text, navigate to /Windows/Profiles/Guest/Temperary Internet Files/Content.IE5/. (DON'T close PocketIE)
There you'll see 4 folders. In one if these folders you can find your CAB-file.
BTW; Its a good idea to empty your Temporary Internet Files before downloading the CAB-file. That will make it a lot easier to find.
I know there are other solutions, but this works quitte well!
I did not know of that trick. But i used two other: wait for the text to load, then save the page with spb pocketplus, rename the file to fiename.cab. Or: copy address and paste in opera mobile.
But i hope to find a better solution.
Or you can try this: http://cabdl.com/
Never tried or used it btw.

Removing push pages from internet tab

Hi,
I've been trying to remove some push pages from the internet tab, but so far I haven't found a way of doing it. Someone said to look in the registry, the specified key isn't there (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\Internet.DefaultCount)
Also, someone mentioned editing an XML file in the Application data\Manila folder. The folder isn't there either. I'm kind of lost at the moment on how to remove all these redundant push pages
same needs here... any help?
cheers

Opera Cache in open:config

Bummer! Was trying to change cache location so I typed in H:\My Documents\etc.
Didn't realise it was supposed to be Removable Disk\etc. or along those lines
Now when I type opera:config to change the cache location it comes up with an error "You tried to access the address opera:config, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.
open failed (0) : ?"
Soft reset doesn't work, help is much appreciated!
Anyone?
i believe by mistake you have disabled opera config in user pref of opera config .....
i came across this option in user pref .......
but i do not have a solution for you
good luck .
Try to install opera again
Go to the following Registry key (Using your favourite Registry Editor) i use PHM..
\HKLM\Software\Opera\Prefs\User Prefs
Change "Cache Directory4" key to fix your path.
Hi, I have the same problem. when i write "opera:config" i receive the same message "open failed (0):?".
Because I tried to move the cache folder to my Storage Card. I also modified in the HKLM register an introduced again the default cache folder .... but the opera:config page i still inaccessible for me.
Is there a possibility to restore the config to default ?
thanks for your help
(I have a HTC-HD2 / Leo)
Sorry to bump an old thread but here is the solution for the above problem if anyone come across such problem again.
Open the registy of your windows mobile. Navigate to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Prefs\User Prefs (or any other key where you have recently made changes to directory preference e.g. download directory under User Prefs key etc.) then make sure that you have entered the directory path without any quotes. See following example.
Directory path entered must be as: \Storage Card\OperaCache
It must be not as: "\Storage Card\OperaCache" (remove the double quotation marks that is " at the start and end of the line in value entered in registry.)
Now opera:config page should be open up normally. I have solve my problem with above solution. You can also try that.
Thanks and have a nice day.

yes, i played extensivelywith the opera cache a few months ago and found the cache on the stock card noticeably slowed down opera.
for speed, have a look into using a ram disk and put the cache on it, opera flies.

ram disk? can u point me to a thread? thanks
with a little tweaking and setting up, you can move your system temp there and other stuff. theres also a link in that thread to another thread with a ram disk that writes its contents to a file to make it sorta permanent.
if your ring and sounds stop working, its connected to moving the system temp location to the ramdisk, and means you set something up wrong.

Changing Quicklinks on homescreen

This ist probably a stupid question, but I just couldn't find a solution.
How do I change an already existing Quickling on the homescreen? The same question is also valid for the contacts screen.
Once I have defined a Quicklink on the Homescreen there doesn't seem to be a method to change it to something else, I couldn't find it anywhere in the settings. And touch-and-hold doesn't do anything eighter.
So if anyone knows the solution please post it here.
Thanks

Remove quick links
Try "Menu" (lower right corner) -> Remove quick links ->tap on the one you want to remove -> Done -> you're done
found solution (sorry)
Okay that works.
Thank for your help.
I'm also having Quicklinks problems.
I can delete/change the ones that point to programs but the last row of my Quicklinks point to my top websites (ie; Bookmarks/Favourites) and if I use the normal method to delete them it doesn't work! Has anyone else found this, or a solution?
What might be the issue is that I've installed a cab to increase the number of Quicklinks from 9 (3x3) to 16 (4x4). Could that be causing this, as in a stock HD2 that last row wouldn't even be there...?
Many thanks!
You may certainly use a *.cab which has modified the number of quicklinks on home tab, and which doesn't work properly, isn't ?
You can :
- uninstall this cab
- sof reset
- delete quick links
- install back the cab
- soft reset
Then it's ok.
I realise that this is an old thread but I am a new owner of an HD2 and still finding my way. I have done a search and this is the closest thread to my issue.
Just like ugotamesij I have 16 quick links on my home page. My probem is that I cannot remove an unwanted quick link by using the menu button option to get rid of it. The link that I am trying to remove is to the Excel Mobile program.
I would like to remove the .cab file that gave me the 16 links and then re-install it but I do not know how to remove the .cab file from the SD card.
I have located the particular file using the file explorer and deleted it from the list on my SD card but the 16 quick links still appear on my phone after a soft reset.
Can someone assist please?

you can use the registry editor to remove the links -
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Home
There are keys marked with 0..9 (or 0..n)
each item is a shortcut on the home page.
there is a value called "IsExist" set it to 0,
and set all the other tring values to empty.
If you only want to re-order the links -
you can use the app in the following link

Som30ne, thank you for the reply and link.
I am sorry to reveal my ignorance but I do not know what your instructions mean. I have never had a windows mobile phone before and have never attempted any tweaks.
This registry editor business sounds very interesting but sadly, it's like a foreign language to me.
If you have the time can you break it right down for me or point me to a "how to..." guide?

To edit the registry I use TotalCommanderCE,
it's free, just google it.
After you install it, run it, and click on the [\] button (top right of the screen)
double click "Plugins"
double click "Registry"
and then go to the path specified (HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Home\. . . .)
go to each of the number folders and double click the values to edit them.
After editing - exit the TotalCommander,
and hold the power button, and select "power off", than turn the device back on,
so the new values would be loaded on bootup.
I hope it's clear enough.
Enjoy.
(BTW: if you are not sure - write down any o the value you changed,
just in case you need to restore the values to what they were before)
I feel as though I'm on the right path but require a little more help.
After a little further research I installed PHM RegEdit and using the directions provided by Som30ne have found the entry in the registry that relates to the offending quick link (Excel Mobile). It is next to a folder with the number 9.
The path is HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\Home\9
What do I do to simply remove Excel Mobile as a quick link?

there is a value called "IsExist" set it to 0,
Then click save Then reboot
I don't have a value named, IsExist". I can see;
IsNeedRefresh
IsReadOnly
IsSet
IsSet is the only one of these that has a value other than 0 (the value is 1).
Any ideas?
Can anyone help?

I dont understand - what do you mean it is near the 9 folder ?
There cannot/shouldnt/isnt any quick links near the folders.
The quick links are defined inside the folders.
Inside each of the folders (0 . . N) there are several entries - one of the entried is called "IsExist", and the others contain a path to a program link, and a path to the program icon.
Thanks for you patience.
I finally found the value IsExist and changed it from 1 to 0. I saved my change and then did a soft reset. Sadly, The quick link is still there and resolutely defies any attempts to remove it.
Is there something that I have missed or is there another way? If all else fails I can see only two choices;
1. Perform a hard reset and start again from scratch or,
2. Leave the quick link where it is and learn to live with it.
Any other ideas - PLEASE?
I am fairly new to this registry editing myself, but I also had this problem.
Using the good advice from this thread so far I have managed to get rid of the quick link from my 4x4 quick link grid.
I just looked at the registry values for an empty link and entered the same values for the one I wanted to remove. I then did a soft reset and it seems to have worked.
Thanks for the support speaky05 but I managed to get the required result by simply un-installing the .cab file that gave me the 4x4 grid and then re-installing it.
I don't know why it didn't occur to me sooner.
