I'm rooted and downloaded Fresh 2.1.1, but now the Modes of Operation link under Mobile Network Settings is gone.
Is there any way to get this back? Because of where I'm located, I need to switch to modes often.
I posted a while back about this same problem. There are Sprint EVDO towers in my area but my phone will not switch to them unless I manually switch to EVDO-Only, that is probably the biggest hesitation I have to switch to a 2.1 ROM. As far as I know, that setting was removed in the 2.1 ROMS.

It's under Settings/Wireless Controls/Mobile Network Settings/Mode of Operation
There's the 2G/3G switcher by CurveFish in the market.
I believe you can change it in ##3282# if you know your msl

Unfortunately that 2G/3G switcher only brings up the Mobile Network Settings page, it doesn't actually switch the mode of operation.

Well I got my MSL, went to the ##3282# screen, and clicked edit text. Then it asks me for a password, which I assumed was my MSL. But I tried it and it didn't work. I called back sprint to verify that was my MSL. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is the password something different?

I've been trying to get a juicy theme going on but I'm having real trouble finding a switch to allow direct access to allow me to switch mobile data on and off.
SwitchPro doesn't allow me to do it, both "Data Connection" and "2g 3g" only switch it off for a few seconds and then it pops back up. If I then go into settings, Wireless, Mobile network shows as being ticked, yet says "Connection failed" - It is of course connected and functional.
Extended Controls 2g/3g and Data Network do exactly the same.
There is, of course, the native Sense UI widget...so how hard can it be if you don't want to use Sense?
Is there a widget out there that will allow me to directly switch Mobile Network (data) on and off from the homescreen?
Currently on latest Mocado R8 custom bake.
i had that problem before as well..what i did is remove the defualt apn and add them back manually..and the problem solve..u can try on this method..

Could you give me a quick step-by-step?
Will try apnDroid too, thanks guys.
EDIT - apndroid simply disables it for a few seconds, it then reconnects.
widget didnt do anything.
I need one because you have to press and hold the power button and it seems a bit rough on it and we all know that these little buttons always go bad so a widget would be great for relieving the burdon on the power button.
any other suggestions, for a rooted evo?
With 2.1 I used the ##DATA# code and changed some settings on 4G to allow weaker signal/stay connected longer/change the sleep policy etc...
On DK28 I don't seem to have those options anymore. Is it under a new dialer code?
Thanks.
Never mind, I was going straight to edit mode when you need to go to view mode first then select wimax and enter msl code.

Yes, you can.
Here's from Sean's SKYICS.
It's on Page # 3, Look for APNs just do *#2263# choose WCDMA instead of LTE, , I just tried mine and voila, :victory:

Doesn't work. Brings up an option that says "RAT Selection Option is restricted" I can't select anything or make any changes (it also doesn't give an option for Cellular type" looks like AT&T locked it down again.)

Did you take the SIM card out before you do that ? It won't work with the SIM in.

It should stay here's how.
With the SIM card remove Dial *#2263# select WCDMA, select All, then bottom left haptic button select end and reboot with the SIM card in
I mean don't do the next step (Open dialer again.Dial *#2263# select automatic)
maybe this could be a project for the devs that allow us to simply enable and disable using radio buttons or something.
anyone know if it's possible?

Yes it is possible but we'll have to be patient.
Does it drain battery even if you are not in an LTE supplied area?

1.Click on Menu button and go to Settings.
2. Go to "More....", once in, click on "Mobile Networks"
3. Go to "Access Point Names"
4. Once in you will see "AT&T PTA" with a radial button as your only option. This is the default gateway.
5. Click on Menu button below, and you will have two choices, "New APN" or "Reset to default" click on New APN.
You will see a series of lines under "Edit Access Point" and click on "APN" and enter as follows "wap.cingular"
If you like you can rename the "Name" to whatever you like...I used "AT&T HSPA+"
Click "Save"
This will give you access to HSPA+ network only. I found this info online for the Galaxy SIII with ICS coming stock. This is an ICS only option I believe, I don't recall cause I dumped the Gingerbread 2.3.6 cause it was burning up batteries like crazy.
Please be advised I have the Galaxy SII Skyrocket, they are building the LTE network in my area as we speak and I was getting all sorts of interference from their testing and upgrades so until its complete I'm running HSPA+ only and the problems went away.
Hope this helps!

That might work. But it will not turn off the LTE radio, the phone will still have LTE on but will connect to the slower internet. LTE remains on=battery drain is on.
Might be useful, create a shortcut with Anycut

You can do the same thing with Widgetsoid, and probably anything that lets you make a shortcut.
I'm not sure why but one of the hidden menus is com.android.hiddenmenu.SprintMenu
When I open it, it is blank and the header is 1x Engineering. Ah, looks like it's just part of the data menu from the main section.

You can toggle LTE off with an app calle Phone Info. Under Device Information you select preferred network type. Not a toggle but it works.

Thanks. But I'm interested in utilizing the functionality available in AnyCut as there are so many additional customization options.
How do you get to this menu

I also would be interested in doing this via AnyCut
Because Phone Info seems to switch it to VZ LTE instead of EPHRD when switching back to 4G. I'd assume Any Cut since it works within the system would be "nicer" and not cause this.
Hi everyone,
Obviously, I know where to find the setting that allows you to switch between LTE/GSM/WCDMA to, say, just WCDMA. But is there a tool that would allow me to switch that mode from a widget or quick setting tile? My commute features varying degrees of network congestion on LTE, so I like to switch back and forth. I'd just like for that process to be something I could do more quickly.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I don't think so as far as I know. Best option I've found is keep the code in a text file and copy paste into the dialer and change from there.

On the pull down shade there is a data toggle. Press and hold to go directly to that setting screen.

I had no idea how to select network mode, thanks to your working code I was able to select gsm only network and save my old non LTE supported sim card from randomly searching for signals on a lte supported network and draining my battery like hell!
THANK YOU for your working code :good:
