I just updated my phone with the official Sprint 2.1. I noticed that my PRI number has changed. Here is the software information.
Firmware version
2.1-update 1
Baseband version
2.42.01.04.27
Kernel version
2.6.29-bc0d2cff
[email protected] #1
Build number
2.27.651.5
Browser version
WebKit 3.1
PRI Version
2.20_003
PRL Version
65000
My PRI was 1.70_003 prior to the update. Anyone else get this?
Does tethering work?

I'll post back and let you know.
I'm still at 1.70_003. o_0
How do I update my pri of I'm running the latest damage. I updated prl and my profile but my pri is still 1.70.003

I don't know how my PRI number jumped up drastically. Like I said, while running Fresh 2.0d my PRI was 1.70_003. When I updated to the Sprint official release of 2.1 my PRI changed to 2.20_003. I don't know if this is an error or not.
I also tried network sharing using a wire tether via 3g network and I keep getting error 67.
BTW, My network is showing Sprint .
Dude you know you lost root for a while right, I think?

good, just what I wanted to know, thx
I know I lost root , but this phone is going to the wife when the EVO comes out .
Anyways, I got network sharing to work via wired tethering using a WIFI signal. I'm trying to figure out if I can get it to work using 3g.

i have been reading about this for a while now, as far as i can gather sprint blocks 3g wired tethering on any pri except for non sprint pri's or unless you you use a paid app (pdanet easytether)... but i belive you lose access to some sprint apps if you switch to a non sprint pri

Only things like Nascar, NFL, and Sprint TV...all of which are pretty useless. Nascar app is usefull 8 months out of the year, NFL app is stupid, and Sprint TV blows and is really expensive if you subscribe to any thing.

MobileAP is notorious for having issues unless it is perfectly integrated into the ROM. Try using Wireless Tether, it is available for free just do a search for it on here. IMO it works much better than Sprint Hotspot, and there is no need to pay for it. If you still have problems (I can never get neither MobileAP nor Wireless Tether working properly on my phone), try using a wired tether app such as PdaNet or Wired Tether. These require the usb cable to be plugged in, but there are far fewer compatiblity issues. Hope this helps!

Already have the wifi tether app and have used pdanet before. Both work.. Just, I was hoping got quicker speeds through mobileap..

Nope, it is a free solution to tether your existing 3G or 4G data connection wirelessly. You just need to have it baked into whichever ROM you are using, as it is not a standalone .apk.

I'm not sure about speed, wired tether would surely be the fastest as there is no loss of speed from wireless data transfer. PdaNet is very slow IMO, I don't use it anymore due to this. MobileAP shouldn't be too much faster than WifiTether, as they are both using essentially the same protocol to do the same thing, just different ways of going about it. Keep following the ViperROM thread, I'm sure BT will get a fully functional MobileAP mod working shortly
yeah the sprint hotspot is a sprint app (obviously, lol) that you will have to pay for to use. the MobileAP in the vipeROM is in Settings > Wireless > Mobile AP. Its not going to be any faster than wireless tether, the benefit is that the above are both infrastructure mode while wireless tether is ad hoc. some devices cannot connect to ad hoc connections.
i tested the vipeROM mobile AP and my lappy could connect successfully and cant connect to ad hoc. it looks like he swiped it from the captivate since there was att related text in it, lol. but it works, data worked, i jsut got messages every few seconds about not being able to register me or something like that, but it continued to work, lol. hope this helps
seems like the entire time on 2.2, a hard load on 4g connection causes the radio to cease thoroughput..
just makes me mad because it makes it hard to download my huge porn files using the network, and have to resort to slower 3g.
**Using the Sprint hotspot app. But Happens even using 4g on the phone, not tethering.
If I recall, I do not remember this happening on 2.1 and certainly not on my Evo 4g just for comparison.
I will miss 2.2, but I will have to nand then odin back to 2.1 next night and check this.

How are you downloading on the phone? I've used 4g to download directly on the phone plenty of times with no issues...and I've used pdanet to tether and play wow...so I can't say its bad :/

This happens to me all the time. I figure its the horrible ping our phones have mixed with the bugs that were probably ironed out in dl15, 29 or whatever.

I know that this does not work on DK28 currently, but if anyone could get this to work it would be very helpful. This is the only thing keeping me from going back to 2.2. I need it for one of my computers when im not home. Here is the link for it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785719
The guy said he was gong to look into replacing the sprint mobile hotspot with this. If anyone could do this and possibly include it in there rom then I could go back to 2.2. I have seen a few post of people using 2.1 because they also don't have this for 2.2. I hope there is more interest and we can possibly get this done. I would try but I know nothing about how to do it.
Thanks in advance for anyone that is able to do this, or has interest in it.
FYI - I have gotten every wireless device in my house to see and use this app. (ps3, 3 laptops).
I'm on Mammon's Bonzai ROM and using the Sprint Hotspot app just fine. The only issue I'm having is that 4G drops when I get or make a call while using the hotspot.

assuming your paying for the feature as well. Ill take a stab and say he wants a free infrastructure hot spot, which I think as of right now is only possible on 2.1 odexed roms. The original porter of the i9000 ap said hell only port again on am official release. Cyanogen I believe also has it as a possibility, but its not yet working on our port. And the op of that thread says it won't be any time soon.

Also BTthomas is working on coding the mobile ap to work on 2.2 froyo deodexed roms and said he was making progress but is taking a break for the holidays, so we might see it soon maybe even b4 official froyo but have feeling that once the 2.2 source is out jr might make a new one and bt might have one faster for deodexed roms so ill give it a few months at least and we will probaly have it work on all roms

I doNt know about for the ps3 but I'm using wireless tether rc2 on froyo and it works great on my iPad and laptop. I had mobile ap before I updated and honestly wireless tether to me is just as fast. I haven't tried it on the ps3 though.

Wireless tether crawls in comparison, the loading of web pages on my computer is so slow with wireless tether, plus mobile ap doesn't get my phone hot even when charging, also when u connect multiple compters and devices to wireless tether it crawls more mobile ap I've connected 4 devices on 1x speed and 2 of them were streaming u tube in under a minute of loading, plus mobile ap is so much better looking and not an extra app u have to have its part of your settings and kicks ass plus it works superbly on 4g when wiress tether doesnt...

Yeah I really dont know to much about it. I only used it like one time. It would be nice to have on froyo but I'm not gonna let that be the reason that I didn't update to froyo.

Cool thanks for all the info on this. Yes looking for a free alternative. I only need it about once a week for a few minutes. The Google cr-48 only does infrastructure mode. Kinda sucks but I need it when I'm out and there is no wifi. Haven't activated the Verizon 3g built in yet. Just want an alternative to it since I have the phone, but then again I probably wont go through the 100mb limit it comes with. I use the computer for school so I have to make sure I have internet in case I run out.

Rom: Never stock, but always with some Gingerbread.
I've been using Wireless Tether with Evo Zone rom and was getting speeds close to 2.0mbps on my comp with 3G last week. I was able to watch netflix through my xbox without any issues. I recently updated to MikG v1.03 rom, updated radios, wimax etc. to the latest version as was instructed in the thread. Now I'm getting about 0.20-.50mbps. I don't know if it is because I updated radio and wimax or the new rom, or Sprint capped my speed because I was using too much of my UNLIMITED data. Maybe Sprint is having issues with data speeds in my area. Please someone help.

Sprint doesn't do that.
I would update your prl and data profile.
Also,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922978
It's possible it's just a network issue though.
Thanks for the reply.
Apparently the MikG rom comes with the MSL fix already pre-done, since all the fields are 0 and 0.0.0.0.
My PRL Version is 60679 and I'm not sure where to find data profile version. You think that needs to be updated and if so, how.

Should be in the same area has prl but I'm not sure if its different in that ROM.
I would say that if it continues to do it for much longer you should call sprint.

Figured out how to update. Updated both PRL and Data. Said it updated but the PRL Version stayed the same. Hopefully Sprint is just having network issues in my area and it will be fixed soon.
Will call them in a day or so, because its pretty unusable with speeds like this.
The weird part is this thing was flying at 2.00mbps before.
Edit: Actually just did a speed test after updating PRL and Data, and its up to 1.04mbps, so not bad.
Thanks for your support.
same problem, agreed
Looks like a new PRL is out. Just updated profile and PRL on my phone and it's now on 60683. Anyone care to see what was added/changed?
I don't have my laptop with me today. I will see if I can update to it, pull it, and run the analysis on it this evening. If someone can post the file that would be appreciated.

Instead of writing a new prl. Just do a read. It usually gets saved as your phones id as the name with a rl0 or rla extension. Can't remember. Just rename it to the prl number with a prl extension. You should be able to open it with the prl editor that comes with qpst.

If updating the PRL doesn't improve reception, or 3G/4G speeds, what's the point in updating it? What does it actually do to benefit me?

Well, PRL stands for Preferred Roaming List. So it helps when you are roaming. It does nothing for Sprint connectivity, but I have seen improvements from time to time when I am roaming on the Verizon network. haven't tested anything on this newest one yet.

This sounds logical, but I think you may be wrong (I remember thinking the same thing, but the name is misleading) - I recall reading that the PRL is the list of all towers your phone can connect to. If your carrier installs a new tower closer to your house, from what I've read, your phone still won't pick up that new tower until the PRL is updated, because your phone won't know that the new tower isn't for another carrier...
Again, I only think you're wrong, but I don't know for sure

Right...I think...maybe...umm....who knows!
I don't think it has to do with the towers, but something with the frequencies or something. I do know that it has absolutely no bearing on Sprint service whatsoever. I didn't mean for my post to sound like a definite answer at all. I far from an expert! I recall a post somewhere that had the technical details of what a prl actually contains. if I can find it I will post it.

You're close. It's a list of system IDs for all the non-sprint towers that the phone is allowed to use for both voice and data. It shouldn't affect anything when you are on Sprint home service, but will change what system IDs your phone is allowed to roam onto. If Sprint puts up a new tower in your area you don't need a new PRL to use it. As long as it has the local Sprint system ID it will use it.

Well, perhaps I am mistaken, then
I just remember reading somewhere that we wouldn't benefit from new (Sprint) towers until the PRL is updated, but that doesn't mean the person who posted that was correct - and the Roaming part of PRL would be more logical with your explanation.
However, I updated to the new PRL and started getting two more bars of Sprint coverage in what used to be a call-dropping zone just down the road from my house, which suggests that it did help with Sprint service... I must note the strong possibility of pure coincidence, so my experience isn't definitive proof...
So the mystery deepens...
