Afternoon folks, as a newbie to Android I'm wondering if anyone can help with a couple of random questions (yes, I have googled extensively but so far had no luck finding solutions or even hopeful looking workarounds).
I'm a biker and use my phone as a hub for satnav, entertainment, communications etc. Because I'm on a bike and not in a car I have no need for the screen to be running whilst CoPilot sits in the pocket and happily munches battery life, there's no need for graphics on the screen. Is there a way to turn off the screen to conserve battery yet leave the phone itself running and not in standby mode?
The next question is regarding SMS, is it possible to configure the Desire to convert incoming SMS to voice and read them out automatically? Say for example when a headset is plugged in the phone would alert and then read the message directly rather than just notify.
Cheers.

Hey guys,
First off, I must say that although I am a new user on these boards, I've scoured them thoroughly before posting this. I also must say that everything I've seen on these forums have helped me LARGELY with setting up my lovely Universal. I owned an MPx200 SmartPhone before this, so I was familiar, and the pointers that everyone has posted have allowed me to get my device fully customized in about 3-4 days (I'm a busy dood too!).
Anyways, onto my issue...I'm not sure if this is the way that it is supposed to behave, but let's say that I have PHONE and BT on in my Comm Manager...now, if I get into my office and turn my Samsung WEP200 BT Headset OFF, all calls that come in will be automatically picked up/answered by my device. It's quite messed as I don't think the actual phone mic/earpiece are activated....as if it's looking for the BT headset, gives up, and just connects the call but I cannot talk to the caller. If I turn my BT Headset back on, all works properly.
Basically, my issue with this is that I'd like to power off my BT headset while still leaving the BT Radio ON on the Universal for ActiveSync, etc.. Is there something I'm missing, or do I have to have BT off everytime the Headset is off?
I read about Buzz' BT_headset_fix3.cab and ended up installing it, however I'm not totally sure what it does so I don't want to remove it, then realize it opens up a new can o' worms...
Anyways, if anyone has any ideas or similar behavior with their Uni's, please let me know...It's not crucial, however it is my one and only annoying problem with this device.
Thanks in advance guys!!
I am looking for a tweak or registry fix/setting to help me with the following problem:
On my parrot bluetooth car kit in headset mode after a call is finished the phone stays on. This is not a problem if you finish a normal call without handsfree because you switch it off manually but when you are driving with the phone in your pocket, the phone is liable to screen presses. I have been inadvertently creating/editing contacts and making notes with the phone in my pocket after use in the car.
The screen autopower off does work if the screen is not activated for a few minutes but the inadvertent screen presses occur within this timeframe.
Any help is appreciated - thanks!
I have a similar problem when using my bluetooth headset (Samsung WEP200)…
When I make a call using the headset the screen stays active, and if I turn it off during a call it turns it self on again after the call has ended. Not fun if it’s in my pocket and it decides to call someone back without me knowing.
Is there a general setting or fix that disables the screen when you answer or make a call with the headset active?
Have you found any solution to this?

Nope, not yet…
I can’t believe that there aren’t a lot more people with this problem!? It’s a REALLY STUPID problem to have on such an advanced phone like the Blacksone when nearly EVERY basic mobile phone has this feature since the dawn of BT headsets.
This might leave me no other choice than to retire my beloved Blackstone and dig up my old Samsung phone so that I can drive my car safely with my phone in my pocket…
There is an app called Touch InCall Screen Tweak. With that you can configure so that screen will go off quickly when answering and ending calls and bluetooth headset is used. It works great for me!

I actually tried that app yesterday but didn’t get it working as I wanted. How did you configure it?
I guess I can try it again – would be great if it works!
Well, now I can make a call without worrying about it to end (with the InCall Touch app), but when the call is ended we're back making random calls without knowing to whom.
This amazes me, how this feature can be missing. It’s not something I admit to my iPhone friends who still tries to find something that Blackstone can’t do – cuz this even works on the iPhone!
I'll try tweaking till I or someone else can find a solution to this rather embarrassing problem.
Hello there,
has anyone an idea how to realize this:
blackstone is in standby - bluetooth is activated - bluetooth headset is on - both connected - call comes in - I take the call with the bt-headset - talk - I end the call with the bt-headset - blackstone remains on until the adjusted time for standby is reached
but I would like the blackstone switch into standby mode immediately after ending the call
is this possible ?

This needs addressed - sleep after a call during headset mode
In headset mode the phone does not go into sleep mode or power off automatically after a call. This is a major issue for those of us who leave the phone in the pocket in the car or when using bluetooth headsets. I have finished calls recently and then 5 or 10 mins later my phone would connect to someone random in the phonebook whilst driving which is quite embarrassing "I didnt call you" - "yes you did"!!
In the meantime I am using constant device lock but this is a clumsy solution for what surely MUST be a common problem. Can anyone else not help us out and try to get the device to sleep after a call during headset mode? I would be so grateful for a useful solution that doesnt involve a constant device lock that I dont really need!
Cheers
I'm having the same problem also....
The list grows - surely there must be others out there with the same problem. We should try and get out heads together to crack this one!

Sounds good man, keep up posted. Its a major issue for me too!
ok folks .. here is the very annoying answer i got from htc support
You recently wrote us about an issue that you have encountered with your HTC Touch HD. There is only one way to instantly set the device into standby mode: please press quickly the power on/off.
what shall i say ... THAT'S CRAP !!!
and i'm still thinking that there must be a workaround ... redefining the buttons or something like that ... any ideas from the specialists in here ?
c'mon guys - help us out here

that's really strange...just tested it.
connection htc/jabra bluetooth.
htc device lock ON.
an incoming call arrives, pick up the call via bt-headset. end the call via bt-headset. phone is immediately locked again (htc own device lock), display is on. after 1 minute also the display turns off.
or do you mean something completely different?
Same here and it feels retarted.
Ooe of the major purposes of a bluetooth headset is to avoid contact with the device. So having to take out the phone or handle it (in a car/office whatever) after a BT call is rediculous.
BT headset drops call
I am not sure if I should pose my questions here but my Jabra BT headset is connected to my Blackstone on standby mode via BT. However, when an incoming call comes, the BT headset does not get the call but is transfered to the HTC handset instead. I have no problems making outgoing calls on the Jabra headset. It's frustrating when I am driving... could anyone tell me how to remedy this?
Thanks in advance.
end call via BT into standby works with LockMeLite
hello there,
with LockMeLite http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478606 and my samsung wep250 bt-headset
it works
this headset is non-a2dp-capable
dunno if an a2dp capable headset will work, but will test is (next week)

I have tried flashing newer fancy roms and tried various lockers but no applications are intuitive enough to fix this simple fault. When making a call in 'headset mode' the fast sleep mode prevents accidental presses during a call. Unfortunately when the call is ended via handsfree/car kit/recipient, the phone wakes back up to life.
Any locker I have used is active indiscriminantly when pressing the power on button to wake the device from sleep. I have tried lockmelite, hd tweak for inbuilt MS lock, pocketshield and another locker however none have the function to only lock the device whilst in headset mode and after a call has ended. This is a request to developers, expert cooks and modifiers please can anyone help us out?
Thanks a million
Check this, it can do the trick...
h..p://www.pocketshield.net/default.htm
S2u2 V2.04 workes fineas you needs, even look during a call (gives black screen)
I'll do a try
As I have the same request/problem I'll try the following with the help of AGEProfile.
- I create a profile actived when the headphone is connected, when this profile is activated it launches a program named MySuspend so my phone is suspended.
- I create another profile activated when the headphone is connected and there is a call in progress, this profile does nothing but it exists (only)
So when my phone goes connected with the headset (BT) it goes suspended.
When I receive a call it wakeup as normal and the profile is switched to the second one (but does nothing)
When the call finishes, the first profile is activated again and the phone goes suspended.
That's all (and it should work, I just made the setup for that).
Regards,
P.S. sorry for my english because it's not my language.
I also have this same question. After ending the call the screen stays unlocked and will inadvertently call a number sometimes.
I tried
Yes I made a try yesterday evening in real conditions and it work very well
So I'm very happy
I forgot to mention that I also use the Inesoft to have the screen locked when one call come in.
Hope this will be useful for you too
Regards,
Apoligies if this has been answered already. I ve searched a lot but havent found a solution thus far. i use portsip and nimbuzz for voip (over 3g). My problem is that I do not get any incoming call notifications when my phone is on stand by due to which I miss a lot of sip/skype calls. Is there a possible fix for this. I have tried using pcshutxp which would only turn off my display light, but this drains my battery real quick. Thanks for all the help.

There are at least 2 pieces of software floating around this forum that can be used to keep wave device powered on in unattended mode. This should allow rings to be played.
Hi Stepw. Thanks for the quick reply. Can you please direct me to the 2 softwares in this forum that you mentioned. Thanks again.
Having been a long time reader and following the rise and birth of the HD2, I'm just about to order one till I saw the Alarm issue .
I have 4 basic needs:
Alarm
Bluetooth Voice recognition
Texting
and good call quality
I need it to wake me as an alarm is basic and should over ride silent mode and go for more than 2 beeps .
Bluetooth hands free, I need this to work as I need it while driving. How easy is it to get working with Nokia BT headset, and can it work like the n95 with auto voice recognition? Heard you can install MirosoftVoice thingy, but where from?
I have read a lot of problems about Texts. Presume this will be sorted shortly.
Good call quality, self explanatory, so don't like the sound of blastingly loud crackling volume.
I use a pc for emails as mailwasher filters out all the sp*nk mail so I don't intend to use it for emails.
Am I going to get the right phone? I love the look of the HD2, nearly bought the HD.
Liked the iphones that I played with but hated the handcuffed options and itunes. Shame that every gadget or accessory in shops is geared towards iphone.
Need some help.
Cheers,
Steve
Will that be a "No can't do the basics" then?
Alarm: Built in alarm is fairly basic, it does override silent mode and you can set 3 alarm times with days and the sound. Snooze mode is also included. If you need more, there are great applications like G-Alarm.
Bluetooth: I can pair it with my Bluetooth headset, it's simple and works just like it's supposed to. I don't know how to map a key of the headset to MS Voice Command but I'm pretty sure that this can be done.
Texting: Some people had problems, but disabling HTC Messaging is a simple fix that silves the problems. I've not had any problem with texting yet.
Call Quality: It's pretty good, IMHO. Not the best among all phones, but very good for a smartphone, better than most other smartphones.
1. Alarm works quite well for me, but I have a very light sleep, and almost every sound wakes me up. The only thing about HD2 that didn't wake me up was the battery notification (that it is under 10%)
3.. Texting - quite satisfied, only twice (I have the device for 3 full weeks now) I noticed the sms bug (sms not being sent from outbox), but soft reset solved those things. On my HD2 (with 1.43 WWE East Europe stock ROM) it appeared only when weather didn't want to update, so I kinda knew when it was appearing.
4. Call quality is very good, much better than on my old Nokia 8600 Luna
