hey, i rooted back in december. it seems since then a few newer recovery images have been out... which is the newest and where do i get it?
is it a flashable zip or do i need to push it through adb?
I really like the godspeed recovery its built off amen-ra but with a little flair and OCing from our very own devs here. there is also the standard amen-ra and then there is the clockwork recovery ( i have never used clockwork but have heard good things).
you will have to flash it through adb like you did when you first rooted.

Those are the only two that are out?
thats actually 3 but yes as far as what will work for the CDMA hero yes thats it. but you still more than likely have an older version so you should probably update.
Or you can use the overclocked one which is just AmonRA with some tweaks.

thanks guys,
although i dont consider myself a noob, i work very strenuous days, so i appreciate straight forward responses like you guys gave me rather then just refering to the search function. I unfortunately dont have the time to donate to keep up on the forums enough.
Thankyou for saving me 200+ posts of uselessness and garbage
i'm on Godspeed, but saw an unofficial amon ra 1.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684202
anyone using it? Darch is promoting it so i bet its an updated version of godspeed perhaps?

I used a method that someone posted here to get ROMANAGER 3.0.0.
Now it can't flash anything.
How do I revert it back?
It's called working on CM7...
I'd head desk, but i'd only be feeding the trolls.
But how come villain is beating him to the punch?
gingervillain is based off builds of cm7 so.... yeah.
So from what I understand, cyanogen is hard at work, building a masterpiece, while Villain is taking the intermediate "prototypes" and releasing it, with a few minor tweaks of his own?
Have you flashed some of the unofficial cm7 builds?

Yup pretty much... also, I belive CM is gearing to start running the nightlies again, as the current cmsrc if really stable.
I'm running CM7 right now. I think the OP is terribly uninformed.

You got ClockworkMod 3.0. To flash to 2.x just use ROM Manager to flash the recovery.

The recovery of the whole phone? Or just for clockworkmod?
Because I don't know how to do it the latter way.
nvm i solved it.
Hi, as the topic states, does anyone know where i can download one and flash? my setup on my sig is current.
thanks
So you're trying to run the official kernel with a custom ROM? Why?
why not? and what prevents me from running an official kernel? to OC and drain my batteries? other than that, what else?
edit/
what may keep me from using an official kernel is the 15MB additional ram. however i was under the impression that if I had radio 2.22.27.08, and H-Boot 1.33.0013(d), it doesnt limit me from using any of the froyo kernels floating around. if im incorrect with my assumptions, can someone enlighten me?

Because you can't OC is probably the main reason. The only other one I can think of is the random battery drain that some kernels experience.
On the plus side I can think of stability and battery life. Knock yourself out, I'm sure someone can post it for you.
I have the zip file for the 2.2 OTA but I have no idea where to find the kernel.

IMO, the current ROm im using (TheOfficial) is working wonderfully. I care less about overclocking since I don't play games and dont find the need for the applications I use to be overclocked. Also the UI response on the ROM is incredible.
You are right, until the other ROMs iron out the random battery drain, which I have experiences in both CM7 and pershoot kernels, i wont be using them because i do not like having to restart the phone every time after i charge. ezterry's current kernel always gives me the green screen. however, ez's older kernel doesn't, but I prefer running the latest unmodified kernel.
I'm satisfied using a non-oc kernel and would rather set the mim clock freq. to ~177.
Makes sense. If you can figure out how to extract the kernel from that zip I linked you to, you should have your kernel.

lol, thats my problem. I don't. I also have athe official OTA Froyo image for mt3g. but i have no idea how to extract and apply it to the current OS. Thanks for the offer though. i'll try to find a way to do it. was just hoping someone had a flashable official kernel laying around they'de like to share.
I hit a brick wall. I guess i'll just stick with ezBiffTestKernel20101106-2708_S based on kernel 2.6.34.7. It's a bit old but it will suffice until i figure it out. At least I don't have to reboot every time I pull from the USB charger.

Btw, can anyhone remember that the OTA kernel version was?

Actually there might be a legal copyright issue with distributing oem kernels in custom ROMs. I don't know for sure though.
Shouldn't been since the kernel code is open source, but I'm not sure either. I did find a guide to extracting kernel's from ROM's but it requires that you are either running Linux or are running Linux in a virtual environment.

The kernel is open source. I dont think i have a problem there. Its gapps that we can not redistribute. i read that from CM forum.

thanks! if u can find the link again, i'd be grateful. im on a unix (Mac) environment, so i might be able to do it. if not on Mac, I already have vmware fusion installed and its not a problem slapping on the latest Ubuntu.
I did find a how-to on CM wiki that required a boot.img and fastboot to flash. also found one requiring zimage from a rom. but i could not find the zimage file from the TMO Froyo OTA. lol.
Here's what I was reading. Which is doing the boot.img method.

The official kernel is meant to go with 0013 and 28.25 so yes, you should still have the additional RAM, which this phone desperately needs.

[email protected]#1 is what my phone says and I just received the OTA update a few days ago. Hope this is what you were looking for!
I've been trying to figure this out all day. I actually have a linux installation already but none of the download links for the perl files work. If you have them please upload them somewhere and I'll make us a flashable AnyKernel update.zip.
I've been trying to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667923 but none of the android-dls.com links work
I would love to see an HD2 Amon_RA recovery, I dont know why but I always liked his recovery more than the clockworkMod..idk personal opinion but lots of respect to the devs that put their time into making all this possible, Im just hoping one day in the future we would see something like this, my question to others is wouldnt you?
What we think doesn't really make a difference eh, ask Amon Ra. I've always used his recoveries too, but tbh CWM really does everything I need it to do so I don't care anymore, happy like this!

i rooted my evo with no problem and now i dont know what to do next gingerbread, honeycomb, icecream where do i start?
If you want to try AOSP, I'd recommend CM7. But start there...in the development section is all the roms, go take a gander. There are some gingersense rom [sense 3.0] if you like sense.

Start by googling:
You will need Rom Manager, Titanium Backup, Kernel Manager...
Rooted apps Wireless Tether for root users, cache mate, bunch of other stuff...
Cyanogen 7 is an awesome AOSP rom which really helps with battery life and performance and is very slick.
Before you even begin playing with all this stuff remember to do a nandroid backup. You can use Rom Manager to do this.
nandroid = backup security. don't flash something without it.
start with stable ROMs to get the hang of it. I would not head straight for the Kindom sense 3.0 ROM out the gate, for instance, or you'll be like "wtf, did I do something wrong?"
In the world of Evo, there are two kinds of people. AOSP, and Sense. Most people after using different flavors of the two settle into one line they like, and even though they may flash out of line from time to time, they end up back in base camp. so flash at least one stable full featured AOSP and Sense ROM, use each for a couple of days, and develop your taste. That'll help you narrow your choices a bit more in the future.
also, the little search button in the threads is your friend. by the postings I see lately, you would think it doesn't exist. don't be that guy.
happy flashing

I say NO to ROM Manager and Kernel Manager.
Stop being lazy, noobs, and start flashing in Recovery, like you're supposed to.
Or read about how many problems people just on here have reported having after using one of those apps.

I'd recommend Kernel Manager just to download and search for kernels. Then flash them manually through recovery after wiping cache/dalvik.

OP... seriously...you need to stop.. and do more reading before you move forward. your post suggests that you aint got a clue.. yet. but you are headed in the right direction.
I finally rooted about a month or so ago, downloaded Rom Manager and Titanium backup with Busybox and such and made a nandroid backup of my original rooted configuration. Been very useful as I keep coming back to it. Haven't had any issues using the root apps. Tried both CM7 and MIUI and they both have some cool features.

Yes development thread...there is SO MUCH that you can do now.
Hey, so I'm a little confused. I want to install Cyanogenmod on my SGS II now, but then I need CWM recovery, and for CWM recovery I need a new kernel. This one looked interesting, until I realized I can't use it with Cyanogenmod.
What would be the most stable for me to use? I'm not after anything fancy like overclocking or volt changing and what not.
Thanks alot!
CM7 has CWM already in it, but I use SiyahKernel, it seems to work quite well. Like 7300 in useless Quadrant well.
