Ok... I was big into kernels, processes, everything on my N1 so I am quite familiar with tracking battery life by different means. I can provide the following information:
At 11:20pm, my phone was at 100% and had moderate signal and was connected to WiFi - full strength.
At 5:50am, my phone was at 83% battery with NO USAGE, not even the screen turned on once.
My Battery Use had the Android System at the top of the usage with ~30% usage. The CPU Usage was over 1h 30m!
The above is extremely odd since I didn't touch the phone. My N1 would've been <2 min.
In the Battery History CPU Usage section, SUSPEND was the only item with red and it was roughly 15% full.
The SUSPEND function, I believe, is the controller that suspends the functions of the phone so it can go to sleep. It should never use this much battery.
There are tons of packages in the Battery Use screen, which is weird. Some of the ones are: Settings Storage, RilFactoryApp, com.sec.android.app.lcdtest, AllShare, Error, Checkin Service, BluetoothTest, Perso, BrcmBluetoothServices, Com.samsung.InputEventApp, Sync Feeds, Settings, Factory Test, Network Location, VPN Services, Android System, WlanTest
A lot of these items (and more) show up in Advanced Task Manager, and they never existed on my N1.
I believe that destroying these services via ATM greatly improves battery life (even though generally it isn't needed in Android). After killing them all and keeping an eye on it, only 2 or 3 have respawned and my CPU usage is <1m which proportionally is much lower than the former experience.
Anyone have any ideas or input?
I've been trying to figure this out also...each battery had its on date on it..my first battery was june 21...my current one is june 28...my 6/28 battery also had a little qr barcode on it....
The 6/21 battery was pretty awful...today I'll be using my 6/28 battery for the first time...it was charged at 39% and 10 hours later overnight...it only lost 10% and is at 29% now...i must say that's pretty good because I was certain it would be dead in the morning. I'm gonna test it the next couple of days and see how it holds up....our issues may be as simple as getting the right production of batteries...wouldn't that be a relief? Lol

My only battery weirdness is that I turned off autobrightness and cranked the brightness and my battery life dramatically improved. Would get home form work and have 30%, now I have something like 50%...
No clue why unless using the light sensor or making the adjustments uses more juice than it should.

This isn't relevant to these problems though as I'm talking about standby time.

I think it is a good idea to track running tasks.
Let us create a list of tasks for stock apps and the most often used off the market ones. Then everybody could decide for herself what apps to run. Being able to compare function and price (here battery drainage) is a great thing. The list might contain:
name of the app | the name as appeared in task managers | function | typical power drainage (high, moderate, low, or how many hours will battery last if only the app were running)
I think, the top post could be moderated as needed appropriately.
I don't know, but my battery life is pretty bad. Today I had the phone connected to my laptop via USB, and my laptop connected to the wall. I was using the phone and my battery percentage was STILL going down, even though it was plugged in!

Always plug the phone into the wall if you can. The USB from the laptop doesn't charge at the same rate.
I kill all my running apps that I don't need with ATM, then rid all unnecessary widgets, turn the brightness off of auto and on the lowest setting you prefer, turn off GSP, turn off Wifi, turn off Bluetooth and noticed a huge improvement.

Now you just need to reduce screen size by 80%, get rid of the touch interface and you have a Nokia 6110. I guaranty 7 days until the battery drains.
Some other ways to deal with battery life are:
a. Get a second battery.
b. Charge the damn thing once in a while.
That way, you can actually enjoy the smartphone and think less about killing processes and *****ing how bad the battery life is on forums.
I just rooted my Vibrant the other day and installed setCPU. I set the max to 800 and the min to 200 using the conservative setting and i noticed much better battery life the very next day. Having a 1ghz processor is awesome but it seems that default settings for this phone probably has it running at the rate possibly when the screen is off also.

I'd have to go with this. Just some common sense will go along way. If you dont absolutely need the GPS, bluetooth, or WiFi turn them off (the phone even gives you a widget for it...). Even with the brightness at 0% its still darn bright.
Sure it requires a bit more input from the user but its still a darn good device.

Thats what i did and my battery life improved alot.
5.24 hours of display with it on. 7.54 with it off. Explain? These were the only changes I made from yesterday to today. I calculated these times via percentages and battery used. If everything remains relatively constant, power saving mode is worse on the battery for me.

battery saving mode - you mean in the display options? Yeah, I disabled mine. I would think that constantly checking images to determine brightness would use more battery imo.
how is this different from auto-adjusted brightness? i assume auto-adjusted brightness uses the sensor, whereas this battery saving mode will change the brightness by determining the content shown on the screen?

Ya so it needs power to keep the sensors awake. I always disable such functions together with auto sync. Just do it manually if you want to conserve battery.

going further with that, what all does auto-sync entail? is gmail pushed, or auto-synced? i don't really use any widgets or apps that would require it (maybe google voice? i guess calendar and contacts...)
Either way, I wish I would have known about this considering it added two hours to my battery life.

Ya it's good to know. I think a lot of people may get tricked by the descriptions. It probably only saves battery if the screen brightness is set to maximum all the time.

It's auto synced by default with or without the widget. (Things may be different in 2.2) If you want to sync them manually, you need to go to setting>accounts and sync and choose it yourself.

i've been wondering how accurate the battery remaining indication is, the one in "settings > about phone > status" actually is
after the battery had settled in (used for 2 weeks) mine demos a 1-2% drain overnite consistently, except for the blue moon occasion it demos 11-12% - and the issue i have is, every nite when i take it off the charger, i check Flight mode, and kill any syncing as well as kill the GPS. I know an errant app could be trying to run, but i don't think so - i've got Startup Auditor, and all settings have remained the same - there's no reason i can see for the odd jump in battery drain
i know the radio's signals strength in the same settings > about phone > status is way off - even when showing 0 signal strength & 0 asus, i can still make calls with no issue. It's just got me wondering how off all those indicators are, whether battery, radio, radio signal strength, system useage numbers, etc
did you run movies etc after battery notification came up to see if battery was truly close to 0%?

I'm using battery indicator. It has been dead accurate for three weeks. I'm getting two more hours of display which translate to considerable more overall battery life.

the "power saving" mode is annoying, if only for the fact that i had already disabled auto-brightness, only to realize the brightness would change depending on what was being displayed on screen at the time. i left it on the absolute minimum brightness, because that is more than enough for me, and the fluctuations were making me scratch my head for awhile there (thinking, "hey, i thought i turned that off!")

The battery indicator for me is pretty inaccurate, I've had Youtube playing with the speakers on, i.e. headphones unplugged a good 10-15 mins after the battery indicator was flashing at 0%. Another weird thing is I get more battery life out of Bionix 1.91 than Fusion 1.1, but Fusion 1.1 supposedly has the leaking battery while idle fixed. I dunno what's going on with the battery indicator but I can't believe it to be very accurate.
First - let me state - and it is true - that I used the search function.
I read pages and pages of advices to lower battery consumption on my HD2 Android... without success...
First I used an SD ROM. I read that a NAND would improve battery life. So this is what I did.
I am also using SetCPU with a profile when battery <30% and another one when screen is off to LOWER the CPU speed. In normal use, I set CPU speed at 768MHz trying to lower power consumption...
I use a task killer to free memory and prevent silly programs to drain my battery off...
I use Juice Defender to control wifi, data, etc...
And with all of this in place, my "Current widget" shows a consumption of 180mA with screen on doing nothing, up to 350-400-500!!! mA when acutally using the phone wifi+sync...
In the forum I read consumption like 3 mA - 9 mA!!! This is FAAAAAR Way lower than what I ever had with different builds...
So this is an help scream to everybody: what is your battery drain, and why mine is sooo High???
Hint: I am also a fan of LCD Density changer, with setting at 165... can this have an influence on battery drain??? I reverted to the original 240, doesn't seem to have any influence...

My drain is 3-9 ma in STANDBY ONLY now and again slightly more but mainly the values stated. And my screen on between 120+160ma. Turn off auto brightness if you have it on, and set it at the lowest your comfortable with (display is big batt drainer) I DONT use taskillers as they do more harm than good. I use NO undervolting and only the default settings with my rom. I have low lcd density setting 167 i think. Lcd density has no effect on your battery drain!

How long does your battery last from 100% to self shut down? As for Current Widget, keep in mind that when people say "Standby", its generally referring to the screen being off. Set current widget to update every 30 seconds, and turn the screen of for 40 seconds. Then quickly turn the screen on, unlock, and check what it is reading then.
If its still high, try "Force Stop" applications in the Settings > Applications menu one by one, i've had to do this more than once to locate problem apps that were destroying my battery in standby mode.

drain. it is not the hardware but it is the software doing
the drain.

Bt drain has been fixed, wil now get you 6-15 ma.
Google stuff aint bad, just set update frequentcy to manual.
(Helps with alot of other programms that require internet.)

Disclaimer; This does not damage your phone at all or fry/mess your cpu.
This method is used to lower CPU stress and increase Battery life
This method works for all rooted phones.
IMPORTANT: The newer versions of SetCPU might prevent your phone from entering deep sleep. Download version 2.24 from the following link which is the one with no problems and completely works 100%.

Deep Sleep breaks when charger is plugged in, you can see this by CPU SPY application available on playstore
Stop Downloading Battery Saving Applications, they do nothing and uses RAM.:silly:
Also Turn BLN off when you are sleeping.(It also Consumes battery and sometimes prevent deep sleep of CPU)
Set your Brightness to minimum and disable auto brightness.

Instead use lite app called - Display Brightness from play store.
Turn off wifi and mobile data when not in use.
Use toggle for auto rotation, and keep off when not needed.
For more battery Saving, disable all animations and set screen timeout to 1min.
The S plus sucks in battery life. We all know that.But here's a fix, Try Under clocking instead of Over clocking.
When screen is on:
MAX 1.4Ghz(Why to OC??, if your phone runs smoothly on 1.4Ghz)
MIN 192Mhz
Ondemand governor (This governor jumps up to max when needed but spends most time on the min freq. Best battery saver.)
When screen is off:
MAX 365 Mhz
MIN 192 MHz
(This prevents lagging when playing music and other activities when screen off)
This way, you have a beast quick phone when you're using it, and the best battery saver when you're not!
NOTE: Turn off Autosync from the settings. It's only used to sync your gmail and contacts and such. You can manually sync when you add a new contact and since I don't use gmail, I refresh manually whenever I do.

Click Add profile
Where it says Profile, select it and tap "Screen Off"
Set the frequencies you want in use while screen is off (If you want just one frecuency, put both sliders on the same number)
Set priority (in case you have other profiles, otherwise don't bother)
Select governor (Won't really matter since cpu is gonna be running at 1 frecuency)
Tap save
Go back to Profiles tab at the top, then tap Enable at the top left to make the profiles work.

Most Important thing is to calibrate battery,
Calibration of battery is needed when you change your ROM.
This process wipes batterystats.
Battery Calibration
1. Charge 100%(NON STOP)
2. Download any battery Calibration tool from play store; (Link to App)
3. Open that app, click battery calibrate
6. Unplug your charger
7. Discharge your phone down to 0% during the day
8. Charge back up to 100% (NON STOP)
This is to make sure you're using your battery at 100%. Only do this after you flash a new rom.
The worst battery killer is 3G. No matter how much you try to optimize battery by tweaking and underclock, if you have 3G on, you're gonna have a bad battery drain.
Make sure that Autosync is disabled.
Done A small test usage 14 mins , you can see in attachment your CPU should look like this.

And never ever install the Facebook App if you want to use your phone for more than 3 hours!

One more good thing is turning mobile data off whenever you are not using it, also bluetooth, lowering brightness.
Good app for doing so is Power Toggles. You can always have widget on home screen and switch on/of these things with one tap.
Riiight.. Turn off autosync, disable 3G and wi-fi, dont use apps or games.. I might as well buy Nokia 3310..my phone lasts easily whole day with wifi on..with 3G it can get me at least 6-9h which is fine.. The key is to turn off 3G when you are on wifi and turn down brightness.. Everything else is not using your smartphone smart..
1) Set your network mode to 2G only if you're not using 3G/WCDMA
2) Manually set your operator in settings.
PS: After flashing one of firmwares I got a bug - battery is not charging to 100% while phone is ON. Only to 99% and not showing a message about fully charged battery... But when the phone is in off mode - it charges to 100%. Anyone knows how to fix this thing?

On Amoled-Displays it should help. Inverted Apps, too.

If profiles are not used it exits and there is no use of RAM in both versions (But then you do not have the unique feature of auto switching profiles ).
Is there another app with auto-switching?

But it has no profile-autoswitching, in fact no profiles at all. Voltage control Extreme has at least profiles, but without autoswitching. What is good about Voltage Control Lite/Extreme is that it sets cpu setting with init.d and so the app does not have to start on boot

For the statement that Underclocking would help in saving battery I wouldn't fully agree. A slow cpu needs more time to complete a task before returning to a sleep state. Of course the battery drain is higher with a higher frequency (which also require higher voltages), but I believe, that there isn't much to gain on this front. As long as I don't see any profound evidence I'd even suspect, that an underlocked CPU overall could even cause more power consumption. You can also read more opinions about this in general in this thread.
Much more beneficial would be to identify those apps that cause frequent wakelocks. Does anybody have hints here, how to track down those 'bastards' ? (From my Linux I know 'powertop', does something similar exist for Android? (Or are the battery statistics in CM10 sufficient to decide which app to wipe?)

Of course the battery drain is higher with a higher frequency (which also require higher voltages), but I believe, that there isn't much to gain on this front. As long as I don't see any profound evidence I'd even suspect, that an underlocked CPU overall could even cause more power consumption. You can also read more opinions about this in general in this thread.
Much more beneficial would be to identify those apps that cause frequent wakelocks. Does anybody have hints here, how to track down those 'bastards' ? (From my Linux I know 'powertop', does something similar exist for Android? (Or are the battery statistics in CM10 sufficient to decide which app to wipe?)

Better battery stats is application useful for identifying partial wakelocks.
Its an paid app, but Google helps... Lol
Your above sentence about UC comes true for heavy usage.
Normal apps can run smoothly and at same speed as of OC.

I'am interested in optimizing battery usage/life on my Note 3.
I want to know what functions is free to switch off or reconfigure to decrese battery usage
But I dont want to cut phone functonality too much...
I'am not interested to tips like:
- switch Wi-Fi OFF
- switch Bluetooth OFF
- switch GPS OFF
- disable synchronization
- disable background data
- disable S Beam, NFC, Air Gesture, Air View, Smart Stay
- disable vibrations
- switch phone OFF when not using
- turn Power Save mode ON
- turn Airplane Mode ON
- lower down CPU/GPU frequency
Because they make phone much less usable and fun because it's many nice and amazing functions wont work...
I've already applied following tips:
- disable Google Now
- disable raporting GPS position
- disable location history
- turn screen brightness to AUTO
- remove unused/unneccecary widgets (especially this with auto update/sync)
- turn off autostart of unnececary apps (with All-In-One Toolbox)
- turn off "notifications from server" in "Samsung Apps" settings
Because i know that following tips are working and have positive impact on battery life (about 20% more power in my case)
I can't root phone (MJ7 firmware...) so I cant use Greenify to make more battery life...
If somone know some more configs/tips/apps that can be applied to increase battery life I will be very interested

This I believe is a myth, if anything AUTO uses more battery IMO. I set my brightness at around 40% or so and I get 30 hours (with 3-4Hours screen time) or so average out of my battery, Only other thing I disable is GPS.
It's more about how/what you actually use on your phone rather than what you can disable and not use.
I think you're looking for a reduction in "idle" battery drain as in use battery drain is kinda unavoidable.
There are tools like "Tasker" you can use to automate all the radios
you can use "app ops" to stop all the apps that push your location (this will do the most)
"autostart manager" allows you to stop apps from running all the time.
Do you have an n9005? If so the Snapdragon Battery Guru app definitely helps by switching your networks on and off based on usage, etc.

I never thought about that, I had that on my HTC One. But I didn't find that it helped much in all honesty. I'd be interested to know how well it's responding with the N9005 though, are you using it?

Yes I am. It doesn't make a night and day difference but it definitely makes a difference. I even uninstalled it to double check that I wasn't imagining it, now I'm annoyed with myself because it's still learning again.

Without all you wrote.. rules are those:
1) NEVER close apps (if you close the app ram pages will be deleted, so, it's needed to re-upload those, it has an huge energy consuption
2) use the phone "slowly".. i'm meaning, the fingers moves
3) if you are reading a text, read all the page than slide to see the new text, it's to prevent an high ramp up of frequency for long time

It's npt a good way to install an app to controll emergy consuption..
App needs cpu usage.. cpu ramp up..
so, you disable the radios for little time, and energy spent to do it could me more by cpu ramp up frequency
i suppouse you have the snap version.. and.. as i can see, snap has a good ondemand sysfs setting, it means it doesen't grow up frequency too fast, so, more than this is quite impossible

I've installed this "Snapdragon Battery Guru"... now it's in "learning mode" I will see if it will help or not...
I have better replacement for "AutoStart Manager" and it's called "All-In-One Toolbox" which have the option to chose apps for autostart (and has many more other features) - i'am using it for quite a while and it's working fine

Snapdragon battery guru raplace the sysfs of the governor
First impressions from this Battery Guru are not so good... Battery is running down faster than without it... Maybe because its still in "learning mode"...
Yup just cause it's in learning mode, it'll settle once it's learnt everything

I am not a heavy user so a battery last more than a day sometimes 3 days.If I was I would just get an extra battery and not obsess over trying to maximise battery life.One of the advantages the Note has over most other phones is a removable battery.Take advantage of this feature.It takes less than minute to change a battery.
Replacing battery requires switch off the phone and taking off back cover of the phone (i'am affraid that it will damage it after many opens... i'ts a plastic after all...) and then put back cover and switch on the phone... It's troublesome and not comfortable...

It doesn't take long to switch the phone off.Mine takes 10 seconds.Taking the back off and replacing the battery takes another 15 seconds.Turning it back on takes another 15 seconds.All up less than a minute.
I can imagine how some people might be reluctant to take the back cover off almost daily.The back cover feels a bit flimsy and it's reasonable to assume it won't be durable with that sort of usage.I have the Note 1 and after two years of almost daily taking the back cover off it is still fine.The Note 1's battery life is horrible and even with light use I don't get a full day from it.Most people replace their phone after 2 or 3 years anyway so I don't think durability is a problem unless maybe you plan to keep it for 5 years.
But I can understand why some people might be reluctant to repeatedly tear the back cover off their brand new pride and joy.
I guessed everyone had their own way of energy conservation. For me, I use dark wallpaper. For our screen (Super Amoled), Black = LED off. LED off = not using energy. So in theory, black wallpaper or black background should uses much less energy than bright sunny light wallpaper.

This is very true for Amoled displays.The only time I notice my N3 drains the battery more than usual is when the display shows a lot of white such as internet surfing and using WhatsApp.Watching a movie does not display a lot of white and the N3 battery life becomes remarkable.
Battery
Go into the application settings and deactivate all samsung apps u dont need! Saves alot of Battery. Don't charge ur note if its Not empty. Just charge it if u are under 25%. You can also work with Tasker - it helps you to save your Power if u change yours settings automaticly. Also dont change ur brightness all the time
