Remove location icon (reticule/crosshairs) - Hero CDMA General

Is there any way to remove the location icon from the notification bar?
I do NOT want to turn location off, I do not want to turn GPS off, I do not want to turn network location off, I just want the icon to disappear.
Still running an older Damage v2 if that makes a diff.
Thanks..

you'll have to pull your com.htc.resources.apk from \system\framework, you can use fresh kitchen, regaw toolbox, adb, etc to do this.
Open the apk with 7zip and extract. leave 7zip open as you'll need to drop the res folder back in there later.
in the extracted zip go to the res folder, then drawable-mdpi.
Find the images:
sym_gpsone_0_sprint.png
sym_gpsone_0_vzw.png
sym_gpsone_3_sprint.png
sym_gpsone_3_vzw.png
open these images in gimp or photoshop and delete the image and once transparent save the file as the same name in the same folder.
once done take the res folder from which you just edited and drop back in the com.htc.resources.apk
push the file back to the device to the system/framework folder.
your gps images are now transparent.

OK, these might be 2 stupid follow-up questions but I need to make sure.
1. Does this remove the "satellite (GPS)" icon or the "location (reticule)" icon?
2. Will this leave a gap in the place of the icon?
Example: now I have GSP|loc|EVDO, will it be GPS|EVDO or GPS|__|EVDO ?

Yes it will leave a gap. The only way you could comletely remove the icon would be to either modify the GPS/Location services and make them stop reporting to the task bar...OR modify the taskbar to ignore the GPS/Location services......

those are the location services if you still want to remove the gps icon it should be in same folder can't remember the image name. it will leave a gap as it will still be an image just transparent. I don't know how to do what Kcarpenter said but that would be the only way to not have gap.

There is not a good way to do what I suggested....smali/baksmali is the only way it COULD be done.

Just thought I'd ask since I've seen and used the "no clock" mod, where there was no clock gap after the clock's been removed...
Thanks, I'll just make peace w/ it..

Need Status Bar Removed

I need to have the status bar changed to transparent as well as all the status icons like the signal, sync, time and all that crud.
Everytime I try to ADB Pull it out and change then push it back it results in an endless loop of vibrations every fifteen seconds and the screen stays black.
Is there any one willing to pull the framework and change the bar colors to transparent and upload it for everyone. Im using Hyperdroid v 1.7.
Thank you,
Many people have been trying this with no luck because of a lack of skills. so anyone with the know how would be greatly appreciated...
You are more likely to get an answer in the Q & A forum (where you should have put this anyway...)

I posted it here because I was asking for someone to post a file which in turn everyone else can download. Which is development section enough for me lol.
Mods feel free to move if you disagree.

Well, After you ADB pull + edit the .apk file, you need to resign it. Without being resigned, the app wont load. Learn how to do this by searching..
'How to sign an apk'.
are you using ADW or LauncherPro? Both have options to simply hide the status bar. Much easier.

Replacing notification icons

I assume this would be appropriate in the development forum, move it if it isn't.
Would it be possible to replace notification icons (one at a time) using root explorer in r/w mode? It seems that if you find an icon that you would prefer, name it exactly as the one that is being replaced, then remove the old one from framework-res.apk/res(whatever you are replacing), and paste the new one there, it would work. Right?
Should this be done on a "test" ROM using a PC, then flashed to the Aria? Would those paths be available if you navigated into the ROM using Windows Explorer?
I have used the UOT kitchen, but I don't want entire icon sets. If I select them individually, would they replace only those that are of identical notification value? Would it replace the BT connected icon with comprable icon, but only that icon, leaving the rest of the stock Sense set intact?
I am also interested in replacing notification icons that are packaged in Tasker. I would do the same process, navigating into that app. Should I try this or is it known to be impossible?

What ROM are you using? I did exactly what you described on CM6.1, replacing some status bar icons with their Sense equivalents.
I was even able to replace some notification icons in apps such as Music, Gmail, Email, etc.
I used Theme-Pro to do it and pushed all changes to phone in Recovery mode:

I'm a big fan of the many ADB "helper" applications on XDA, search around.
Tyr it, if you make a Nandroid backup, you've got nothing to lose, right?

Yet another flashlight app

Hello every one,
i know, there are a lot of flashlight apps out there. But none of them fitted my needs.
My requirement for a flashlight was, that i can switch the device to standby while i use it as a torch. But unfortunately if the device goes into standby it also disabled the led on the apps i tested.
So i scratched my own itch and wrote this little widget called MyBeam. It has no preferences pane and no activity screen. It's just a widget which you can put on your home screen and touch it if you need a flashlight. If you put your device into standby, then the led will shortly go off and then back on again. So you can use the led also when the device sleeping.
Maybe you find it as helpful as me
You can find the GPL'ed source code on htt*://github.com/chris-tau/MyBeam
You don't need to have a rooted device. But i only tested it on the desire.
Attached you'll find some screens and the apk.
Greetings, -chris-

Nice app idea... very cool to have alterations. TBH, I was after this myself so thanks!
You haven't placed a beam_on in res/drawable-hdpi so it uses the icon.png for the widget on instead
I quickly modded your on/off icons and icon size for the widgets on my apk. I use Executive Assistant as the screen on my phone after the lockscreen. The widget fits on there nicely ->

I don't see it missing. It's in the repository.
But i just checked the apk and found out that the icon is named 'beam_onm.png'. Wonder how that came? I'll replace the apk with a fixed one.

There is a beam_on icon in the apk, but it is mislabelled as "beam_onm"! However, I do like your icons - fancy sharing?!
EDIT: Hmm, took too long typing, you beat me to it Chris!
They're a 2 second hack job from Flashlight which I was modifying and testing around the time you posted this app (and a bad job ). Others could do far better.
They're in PNG. I set them to display at 146/146 dip for myself. The two lights on rather than three was an intentional visual cue (as that's not the brightest).
Great app!!
Just what I was looking for. Awesome!
true, this was always a annoyance for me too, great app!

[Q] icon problem

Icon Problem,
iv tried rebooting it and tht doesnt fix it ,this icon problem only happens when more than 1 icon is linked to another :/
Apps i installed recently are:
.androids! live wallpaper
.blue skies free live wallpaper
.nexus revamped live wallpaper
.stickmount
.touchpal keyboard
.bsplayer
i also noticed something strange in my installed apps which i never actually installed and there is no uninstall option
Iv attached 3 screenshots, thanks in advance guys, its driving me mad, is there a custom rom which is exactly the same as stock jellybean but trimmed of all the rubbish :good:
I'm not really sure what your question is. The icons you see are exactly what everyone sees if you put 2 or more icons in a folder. If you don't want icons in folders, touch the folder, drag each icon out of the folder and long-press the empty folder to delete it. You can also name the folder if you want to keep it with a description. The Korean keyboard icons come with the OS as system apps. Don't worry about them.

Agreed, I fail to see a problem here.
strange
so having a small black circle appear when 2 icons are linked together is normal, that's ridiculous, it would look miles better without the black circle it just doesn't look right, here is a better screenshot to show you what i mean - those black circles were not there yesterday i can assure you that.
what is the point of having a black circle when it just does not need to be there, am i going mad lol

It's called a folder! It's always been like that... And if you don't like it, use a custom launcher that allows you to change it. Check out mine using Apex launcher:
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD

Guide! See Fanspeed, Screenrecorder full HD, 120Hz screen option!

no root required...
Install activity launcher from playstore.
inside activity launcher search and launch:
cn.nubia.theme.local.ThemeActivity
this will show the preinstalled themes. choose "colorfull international" for round icons.
cn.nubia.gamecenter.settings.records.RecordSettingActivity
this will allow to switch the quality of the screenrecorder from sd to full hd.
com.qualcomm.qti.qcolor.QColorActivity
this will let you choose between all 8 color modes of the screen.
cn.nubia.factory.ChooseFpsActivity
here you can enable 120hz for the screen. It will apply once you leave the menu. standard settings and the refreshrate notification won't show the new value.
you can see that 120hz is working by dimming your screen and toggling between 144hz and 120hz and entering recents screen eachtime you changed the value. The brightness of the grey Background in the menu will be different.
To use the standard refreshrate settings again you must enable "default auto Fps" in the hidden menu.
cn.nubia.factory.FactoryTestQuickFan
here you can see the actual fan speed. Yes its + - 15k rpm.
You can create shortcuts to these menus by longpressing on the desired Activity.
Tested on global 4.05 rom.
there are allot more hidden features like battery percentage in status bar, fingerprint calibration settings and battery stats. But they don't seem to work properly.
Great!! thanks.

This right here makes such a huge difference for me, I normally don't like having icons on my home screen, I generally use Linux CLI Laucher and just quickly type in whatever app I want to open, but because you can't change the launcher on this phone, I'm stuck using the default one, so I only have some icons in the dock, and one of those icons is YouTube Studio, which uses a gear icon, and all the rest of the icons that were applied by default for the other dock apps I use are all square so I just had one random icon that didn't match, and this solved that.
This is a golden find right here, really good job on this.

Also, can you post the output of "adb shell dumpsys display" ?

Worth noting that you don't need to install activity launcher or anything, really, if you have adb (which my device came with by default(!) but you can get through developer options)
Just make sure to separate package name from activity name, e.g. :
am start-activity -n cn.nubia.theme.local/.ThemeActivity
am start-activity -n com.qualcomm.qti.qcolor/.QColorActivity
etc.
(also works as "adb shell am start-activity -n cn.nubia.theme.local/.ThemeActivity"), etc

I'm sure my guide is easier
and you would'nt be able to guess any of these things inside adb. so you need the app in first place to find these things anyways. i dont understand what you try to prove. It doesnt make sense to use adb for such easy things you can do inside an app. it's like you're saying "you dont have to go into settings to turn on wifi i can do it with adb" :silly:
you're just jelly i found this stuff with some guys on telegram and there is no credit for you. you would'nt find anything in your adb if i didnt post this. get your mind right before you say this is worthless. my phone didnt come with adb i don't know whats wrong with your device... don't even bother replying it makes no sense and i will not go further in detail with you.
Wow. No good deed goes unpunished, eh?
Nobody's trying to steal anyone's credit. I'm just saying that some folks like myself who do not want to install anything (so as to keep the device pristine as possible) would maybe like to know of alternate ways to trigger activity. The am way works anywhere, not just on the Nubia activities.
Let go of the jealousy and the flames, man. Just trying to help people out. Take your credit, upvote yourself, be happy. The world has enough strife and complication already to get into pointless bickering.

Yes. You can follow the instructions on this thread to gain access to the hidden themes already present on the device. Also, you can download the theme.apk app from the Chinese ROM that allows additional options https://forum.xda-developers.com/nu...d-magic-5-software-limitations-t4088015/page4
