I really like how much faster Opera mini is, is there anyway to make it the default browser? It doesn't seem to play nice when its installed alongside Opera 10.
Thanks
Opera Mini Default Browser?
I agree. I love how fast Opera mini moves and I like it even better than any of the Facebook apps that I've seen for use with FB, but I don't know how to make it my default browser. Any help?
It should already by the default browser?
it is on mine already

No, it (Opera Mini) should not be already, and very unlikely is on yours.
Two browsers come pre-installed on the TMo HD2. Opera Mobile 9 and Internet Explorer. Opera Mobile 9 is set as the default browser.
Opera Mini is a different browser from Opera Mobile. It used to only run as a java midlet, but now there is a beta available that runs directly in WM.
Confusing, but there are three different Opera browsers that users can use on the phone. Opera Mobile 9 comes with the phone, but one can download and install the newer Opera Mobile 10. One can also install Opera Mini 5, WM version. (Or the java midlet version, for that matter)

Just wondering what people are using to browse the web (other than the default browser) ?
I've tried Opera Mobile but it seems to play around with some of the text on the input area and screen (odd).
hi, had the same problem with opera. browsing seems fine in terms of speed but the language is distorted. i read the support page of opera, though it supports windows mobile 5.0 they said if you can't find your mobile phone in the support list then it's not compatible. they're suggesting opera mini instead but i haven't tried it yet.
currently im using netfront v3.3 which is so far the most stable for my atom. and browsing is so fast unlike PIE (sucks!). you should try mini-mozilla too.
for opera got funny character in input text. just copy the font arial.ttf from your pc window to atom /windows directory. and soft reset.
What do you know ... copying the font over work .... thanks Mazam.
Just out of interest, how does Opera compare to the others (Netfront etc.), are there really any major differences ?
No, don't use Opera. It's writen in Java and have good support for smartphone. Too bad. It's not really for PDA.
You can try Minimo - Firefox for PPC. Here: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/
One of the Minimo's good side is it show web pages with java script perfectly. Unlike Opera. Maybe Minimo load slower Opera little bit but it good enough for me.

what do you mean opera is java platform.. that is opera mini, what i'm using is opera for mobiles...
u can go here http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/products/winmobileppc/
Opera mini 8.5 is bar none the best browser, especially when used with the 'fit to screen' option. After using it, netfront, pie, and all the others feel 'broken'.
I've just installed Opera Mini on my Jade and I have to say, it's pretty nice.
Unlike Opera Mobile it is very fast and the zooming and display is better for a small screen like the 320x240 Jade screen.
Since the websites and images will be compressed by the Opera servers, the traffic is lower and the speed higher. Of course, I won't use the browser for sensible data, because the data runs through Opera proxies. But for normal browsing it's great.
The only problem: I can't switch to fullscreen, because the fullscreen can only be enabled by a key combination which I don't have on my Jade. Maybe someone knows how to fix this.
But it's still a nice browser.
Yes agree, I must say the speed is pretty impressive compared with the Op Mob even by setting graphics to high. btw is is there any method to launch it direct without launching jBlend first ? Am I missing something ? Cheers.
Here is a very useful overview of the features the most popular JVMs have.
As for the direct shortcut, my jade came with esmertec jbed, here is a description how to invoke opera mini (or any other midlet) directly from windows.
The problem is there's no description how to do that with jblend (why don't you use the preinstalled jbed, anyway?)
Mine is pre installed with JBlend. I've found the direct shortcut command i.e. \Windows\JBlend_AMS.exe -R 0.jar (0 is where your Opera Mini is in \windows\java, depending on your other installations.)
Thanks.
azahidi, would you highly recommend using opera mini or the stock opera browser?
Hi !
Yes Opera Mini is Very Fast ! That Good but i have the solution for your problem !
When you are on Opera Mini go to :
Setting => Full screen

For me the same: I find it important that the browser is fully integrated in the operating system (Windows mobile). Opera mini as a java-applet only has limited connections to the other functions of the phone (example: direct dial of telephone-numbers listed on web pages).

Talking about java-applet. How many of you are using Jblend? I tried today installing those 3D games that supposedly work with Jblend..but failed miserably in doing so...need help!
There is only a java version now, no PPC version. I don't like java programs.
Hi everyone
Just installed this on my hd2 and like it but need to know how to transfer my favourites from my laptop browser (internet explorer) to my hd2 opera mini5.
thanks in anticipation
zip
the hd2 has opera installed as the default browser, why did you install another version?
you can use opera link, though you have to create an account.
opera mini
i installed this version because it looks better than the version installed on the phone , it loads quicker and has a nice interface . i also installed the link but it still doesnt transfer favourites.
It's a lot better than the one on the phone - shame you can't make it link in with Sense, and no multi-touch is an arse too
In other words .. it's better except it's worse ? I still use mobile 9.7.
I've just played with native mini 5, and it's nice, but mobile 10 is better in all aspects, and since I can't live without fluent zoom, I still use 9.7 anyway.
How set the reg to active the zoombar in the opera mini5?
Help
Why are you using Opera Mini 5? you have a Touch 2 not an old LG, get updated to Opera Mobile 10.
Opera mobile 10 also can not use the zoombar in touch2!
Try Skyfire, may be you can use it in it.

I didnt say it could
but honestly, if an app designed specifically for windows mobile doesnt use the htc zoombar what chance do you have of getting opera 5 using it?
Oh, yeah I forgot about Skyfire.

hereby i have a question and a problem. i downloaded opera mobile 10 and set it as default browser of my touch 2 but since the old version is still in my device, whenever i try to use internet it leads me to the old opera.
the old version is located in the ROM and i can't find a way to remove it. does anybody know how to remove it or a way to upgrade it instead of installing another opera (opera mobile 10)?

Really, damn i didnt know that Try skyfire.
The zoom bar only works in the stock opera 9 from the default roms afaik.
I still run opera mini 5 because its just so much faster than the rest, including mobile 10.
Of the ones I know if, there are the following:
IE
Default Opera
Opera Mobile 10
Skyfire
Any others people use on here?
9.7 the best
I think IE is the fastest, I wish it had pinch to zoom.
I like Skyfire for visuals and speed, but for forms and such the stock Opera seems to work best.
Opera Mini 5 is the best for me. Unfortunately I don't know how to make it the default browser. I also use skyfire for flash sites and the default Opera 9.7 for sites that requires password. But for everyday use, like ESPN, CNN, etc, etc, Opera mini 5 is the fastest and the best.
My main browser is Opera 9.7 cause of the multi-touch and ease of use, for flash sites i use Skyfire and for speed and to use some websites that dont look right on the other browsers i use IE... but mostly its Opera
i tried opera 10 but meh, seemed bothersome... even tho its flash enabled..
I use Opera 9.7 normally, but I've been giving Opera 10 a go. We will see I'm not 100% sold on it yet.
I like Opera 10, but if Opera mini 5 could be made the default I would take that... its so fast! Opera 9.7 UI is terrible imo.
I think i have tried all the browsers but i prefer opera 9.7 for daily use with skyfire for flash sites and opera mini 5 for speed browsing
I prefer the stock opera browser...
Opera Mobile 10 is sucks,
Opera Mobile 9.7 is much better.
what are you guys talking about there is a scrip for making opera mini the default browser you guys should look for it!
Opera. Don't know why but I started disliking IE a while back.
Opera 9.7 ftw!
is there any others that offer flash support, everytime i download skyfire, it just sits like 75% done and wont complete the download but skyfire still opens and works but is kinda crappy and lags.
I think Opera 10 is better.

i hear you. I hate skyfire. It is a shame it is the only one that displays all flash properly.
I wish opera could display flash 9.x and 10.x
IE is the only browser that works for most of the IT appliance GUI's I need to operate, but I wish it had pinch zoom. Zooming to fill in dialog boxes can be a pain, especially for entering passwords.
Opera's pinch is handy and makes filling in dialog boxes easier. But it fails to open the GUI screens on most of the devices I need to manage. Good for shopping, ok for webmail, getting work done not so much.
I do wish for a decent flash browser - some of our new IT reporting software uses Flash, and many of our online training sessions require it.
As a toy browser for fun 'n games though, stock Opera has been pretty cool.
Opera 9.7
Opera 10 gives me a memory error.
